SEED #21-22 Thoughts
Lots of oceanic shenanigans this time! There were two battles here, one for each episode, but in some ways they felt pretty similar. We didn't mind, though. The first skirmish showed off more of Kira's mad skills; the second skirmish gave us Mu and Cagalli. Unfortunately, Cagalli's battle strength is half a Mu, ergo, a tenth of a Kira. Which is a real shame, because she's cool.
Now she's crashed on an island with a wild Athrun, so I'm excited to see where that goes. I'm pretty sure it won't end with either of their deaths, so my money's on a kiss instead. This is SEED, after all.
Speaking of which, Flay (of course) caught Kira and Cagalli on the deck together, but really, it could have been worse. She was so very up in his grill a few moments earlier. I'm pretty sure Flay would have murdered her.
The scene with Le Crouset ordering Athrun and his blokes off to war kind of made me realize just how few real antagonists there are -- on either side. Every now and then some middle-aged fiend pops up and then he usually dies, but aside from Le Crouset (and, crucially, whenever we got more insight on the leadership of ZAFT) that's the long and short of it. It felt like Le Crouset was sending four Gundam Wing pilots off, or something. Well I mean, I guess Yzak is pretty Jerid-esque. So there's that.
Mu x Murrue, btw. It's real. She is falling for him, yo.
SPECIAL BONUS: Mobile Suit Gundam #1-2 Thoughts
This music! This music! I feel like I've been transported to the PS2 game Journey to Jaburo! That was my first exposure to the original show. I saw a couple of episodes on Toonami... and that was the end of that. Until 2012. In 2012, i watched the film trilogy, at a friend's urging. But here I am now, ready to watch the full version at long last.
"CLIMB INTO MY HAND. I'M GOING TO USE THE SUPER NAPALM."
...And what a journey this will be.
I'm getting used to a non-Blum Char just fine. This fellow handles the material quite well. In truth, I've somehow managed to forgot about the movies in just a few years, anyway. I'm quite enjoying the atmosphere of the show. I'm a fan of this more black-and-white approach to Gundam that started with the original; there are shades of grey at work here to be sure, but at the end of the day, most of the Zabis are the frakjobs that need to be defeated and that's that.
"Who will survive?" Yep, this takes me back.
