The Last of Us Part II announced

I wouldnt call returning to Joel and Ellie 'lazy', just a bit of missed opportunity to open the world up in new and interesting ways

Still hoping this will be Ellie's story without Joel getting in the way. I trust ND knows how to do a follow-up to TLoU, but it's still my hope Joel is mostly outta the picture this time around.

I actually find the "
Joel is imaginery and was killed by Fireflies
" theory pretty reasonable

I like this theory.

Dem textures

you mean dem models, textures aren't doing most of the work

Agreed. It's lazy work using the same characters, characters who had their ending. It's Uncharted 4 all over again. An unnecessary sequel to characters that had their ending in the game before, just to make a quick buck.

Wow, what a ridiculous post.
It's fine to think that the characters had an arc that didn't need a sequel, but to talk about milking when this is only the second game, which will release at least 5 years after the first is so fucking ridiculous. And using the same characters is lazy? Then 99.9% of every sequel in existence are lazy. Get a fucking grip.

I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.

It's obvious they're aware of the expectations they set for themselves, I hope it's a great as the first game.

The Matrix 2 and 3 did not ruin the original. If the thought of a sequel to this story upsets you so much you can simply choose to not play it and remain with the memories you have.

But Naughty Dog will nail it again, and it's gonna be a damn fine game.

Of course. I'm only posting my initial reactions, like so many others are. God forbid we aren't a hive mind here at GAF like some outsiders think we are.
We barely know the slightest bit about the story. Ellie and Joel are back, years have passed, Ellie seeks vengeance upon the Fireflies. That's it

So the complaints how the story is a sellout, a quick buck, lazy storytelling, etc. comes across as baseless complaints than legit criticism and concerns

I hope they don't have a terrible ending this game like the first TLOU.

I will die on this hill!

Hope they fix Elie
less stockholms syndrome please.
I cant wait for the twist that its Joel killing all those people because he just loves killing and to create an unseen enemy so his surrogate daughter doesn't leave to try and live her own life.

I read all the posts you've made in this thread, including the "uncertainty" point you tried to make.

However I'm still waiting on how it ruins the ending. Especially seeing as how all we have is a teaser trailer for the second.

Keep trying to deflect though.

Well now I'm just uncertain if you actually did understand. Certainly you can ascertain how uncertainty had a certain role?

It's highly disappointing that a game with such a good story, which ended so perfectly, has to have a sequel with the same characters "because money"

If it HAD to have a sequel it should have been new characters in the same universe. Disappointed in Naughty Dog

The Last Of Us' sequel will earn money no matter what.

"because money"? Maybe think through things twice before spouting some nonsensical accusations.

Not sure if we should spoiler-tag our story predictions based on the trailer, but I've got a big hunch that
Joel is already dead here. Fireflies caught up to them, killed Joel, failed to capture Ellie again.

Joel looks to 'clean', not that much older, to relaxed in speaking. Looks like either her mind/conscience talking to her. Would be the likeliest thing to motivate Ellie going on a rampage against the Fireflies.

She'll learn more about what Joel kept from her, having to deal with that Joel against her memory of father Joel. Complex relationships yo.

Yea you better spoiler protect that...

Hah- good shit. Was just thinking of selling my PS4 earlier today and you gotta go and announce this! Joel and Ellie is an interesting choice, but will definitely look forward to it nevertheless.

whats with all these ignorant comments?

Accusing the developers being lazy or money-hungry because they feel that there is a story left to tell?

lol they had all possibilities of the world and actually i think by continuing the Story of Ellie & Joel the pressure is much bigger than starting with completely new characters

Did anyone else think the opening gameplay of the UC DLC was TLOU2 set in India? I was getting vibes of an "outbreak" sort of thing happening during that scene. This trailer is markedly more "TLOU" though, haha.

SPOILER: Joel is dead. Ellie has been conversing with his ghost the entire time.

Also, how old you guys reckon Ellie was in this game? Early 20s?

Was going to ask the same thing. She looks older than late teens so maybe early 20s is a good guess.

I didn't necessarily think a sequel to TLOU would be the best idea...

...but still, I welled up watching that trailer.

God, TLOU was so fantastic, and the feeling of wonder it managed to give me has translated into an almost nostalgic excitement for Part II. It's been awhile since a sequel announcement has impacted me this much.

I have to admit I'm kind of surprised given this is GAF that there aren't people
creeps
who are disappointed that their little Ellie has tattoos.

In any case, I'm excited. But please make sure the overall story has an arc ND, none of that walking dead garbage.

Well, I don't like her tattoos but then I don't like tattoos on anyone. I fail to see how this makes me a creep.

I don't think it's about money. Naughty Dog have a great reputation and track record, literally anything they release is going to make good money. I feel like they're revisiting TLoU because they feel they had another story to tell. If it was just about money they could have put out literally anything.

TLoU is probably in my top 5 of all time, I don't think it needs a sequel but I'm interested to see where they go with it.

If that were the case, they wouldn't have made Uncharted 3 and 4

Uncharted 4 was wonderful. It cemented the Uncharted franchise into legendary status and even if people disagreed on the pacing of the game; a lot of them still agreed that the ending was great. Uncharted 4 was necessary to the franchise and an excellent send off since ND isn't making another one. Now Uncharted 3 on the other hand... Meh.

I don't care how many people bitch and complain about a TLOU2... the first time I finished the original I was all in for a sequel. I haven't been this excited for a sequel announcement in so long. Fuck. Yes.

The first one was amazing and the ending almost felt like Sopranos like.... I didn't really want a sequel but can't help it. I'll be there day one for this and will probably get my mind blown again

I hope we aren't spoiler tagging predictions. No need for that when nothing is concrete.

I agree with most of this outside of the fact that
Ellie already knows Joel lied about the fireflies. Maybe she just doesn't know Joel killed Marlene at the end of it all
