The Last of Us Pt II |OT| Oh Ellie...I think they should be terrified of you

You should spoiler that plot point...i'm not that far after that "reveal" but the pregnant girl shows several signs of it before it is even revealed, she starts to get nauseated and runs out of breath faster than Ellie several times before it is revealed.

I'm not talking about that girl. The one I'm talking about, is not what I would consider a spoiler. It's later on. I'm deliberately being very careful with my language. You may want to consider deleting your post.

I cover it with in line spoilers, i wish you would do the same since i don't know what you are talking about.

So I'm starting the second half of the game and I'm curious what was leaked that got people so outraged. My guesses are:

1. The interaction Abby has with another character in the early part of the game
2. Abby looks like a dude
3. Liberal amount of on screen lesbianism
4. 1st half final fight sequence
5. ????
I'm not outraged, just disappointed with the story (the game is great) .
I don't think it's about what politics people object to, more about what ND replaced.
ie: You gave up THAT (two of gaming's greatest characters) for THIS? Gave up Joel and Ellie, just to make a trite statement about violence.
It's a poor decision that smacks of commercialism. There's nothing really wrong with the story, especially in comparison to other games, but it's clear that ND most likely fluked the first one.

I will do now, since you've asked. But trust me, It's not a big deal, so no need to worry about what might happen. I was replying to another post that mentioned it.

This is funny, but man she is big. She's like Arnie at his peak. It is honestly weird to look at. Maybe not as weird as seeing through walls, but still...
She is nothing like arnie at his peak, the hiperbole around this muscular bitch always make me laugh.

I think its' about the same as the flack Capcom got with the buff Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5.
There's something about it that looks off. It's not just the fact she's muscular, more that it looks like a grafted head.

I think of the first game never came out there would not be so much division because on it's own this is a great game.
I agree. But the problem is they went from telling one sort of story to another and if you were up for following a story, then it feels cheap, as there's more to stories than just rug pulling.
I honestly didn't get the hate until the last half, then it clicked. It's so ridiculously heavy handed in parts as to be laughable.

It took me way over 40 hours to beat.

I'm an OCD wall-kisser and a sucker for environment art, if you ever wondered if someone actually reads those random posters on walls or look inside all those dumpsters, well that's me.
I still managed to somehow miss a couple of collectibles.

I started on HARD but switched to SURVIVAL after Chapter 1 feeling the game is too generous allowing me to make it through alive when I shouldn't.
I loved TLOU on GROUNDED and what I wanted from part 2 is this kind of similar more realistic experience. Always low on resources and vulnerable.

I restarted encounters A LOT when things were going to shit or when I wasn't happy with myself recording gameplay, some took me way over half an hour.

One main problem was always the same - my aim is utter shit, has always been. Then there is weapon sway. I was getting stuck, feeling like it's way too much for me to handle.

This is is when the eureka moment came and the gameplay landed for me as a masterpiece of the genre - I discovered the Lock-On Aim under controls/options.

Lame you think? Hear me out.

In my opinion, this should really be the default way to play the game. SURVIVAL with "soft" lock-on ENABLED, with most of the hud OFF.
If you haven't already - do yourself a favor and switch to it immediately. Find a sweet spot Strength setting - "mild" 6 out of 10 still gives you a lot of room to work.
Don't worry - the lock will not make it too easy here, you will still be getting wrecked.

All it does is support the no-mistakes-allowed gameplay, making it not only possible to kill everyone on your path, always have just the right amount of supplies, but also encourages you to play way more aggressively than you normally would.

It all boils down to what you're seeing on screen - enemies on SURVIVAL are fast, perceptive, tactical, and deadly. Will snipe you, flank and surround you.

Switch to normal for a moment and have a laugh at how inept and blind they get. Then switch back.

Infected require WAY more dodging and precision maneuvers in melee.

The action gets so much more exhilarating and deliberate and the carnage so much more satisfying.
You need to be a surgically precise killer and constantly navigate the environment taking advantage of all your skills and arsenal to defeat what the game throws at you and you will, and it feels amazing.

But there is more. I am now replaying on SURVIVOR+ having an ABSOLUTE BLAST.
I ditched the lock-on (which sadly comes with an extra hud element you can't seem to disable) and replaced it with Slow Motion set to WHILE AIMING from combat accessibility menu.
It's ridiculous, basically a bullet-time whenever you pull the left trigger to aim. I'm at the end of chapter one and I haven't died even once. It turns you into a John Wick in combat and holy shit it ZOOMS IN whenever you shoot so you get a better look at epic model damage gore system. TRY IT.

This game is so fucking good it just blows my mind.

The heavily pregnant woman who goes out on combat patrols is truly absurd. No functional settlement would ever tolerate that.
i'm still early one but
his conditions was a secret, she wasn't even sure of being pregnant so the settlement is not aware of this.

anyone else anoyed by the excessive use of film grain?

in photo mode you can turn of and looks so much better
Yeah, it doesn't look particularly good IMHO. Sure, it's more "filmic", but I wish there was a slider to adjust it (like with motion blur).

Its must be that art style that devs wanted to get there with it. No prob for me. But game most times so dark and they talk so silent you need to play it in pitch black room at very high sound levels to hear all stuff. Not game that you want to play with people arround kinda.
Maybe update or ps5 patch will give more options on those.

Try adjusting the dynamic range in audio output settings? (lower dynamic range -> less difference between loud and silent parts)

Its low on mine and set to tv stereo 2 channels because im using old school stereo amplifier on 2 speakers.
But sound first goes to tv by hdmi then goes from tv via headphone socket to amp.
Maybe i need to rechek that again when will be home.

Man what a ride. I got the game spoiled for me about a month ago and I was sad and mad just like many others. I usually like SkillUp and mostly agree with him but something in his review was off. I finally decided to give it a try and man I am glad I did. This is truly Joel and Ellie's story, there are some beautiful moments between the two in the game. I do agree the game gets boring here and there but overall, I really enjoyed the game and I have no issues with the story, I got a satisfactory closure that I was hoping for. IMO, this is a great game with many intense and scary encounters, beautiful graphics and out of this world facial animations. Controls are okay, I enjoyed the stealth mechanics, especially with human enemies. I do have some issues with some of the characters and that the game is needlessly long. But nothing that got in the way of enjoying this game.

This may not be a 10/10 game but it definitely is worth experiencing.

try in photo mode (theres a slider for film grain there) and see yourself how the game looks so much better (IMO)

A guy who grew his channel from being a fan of Naughty Dog games. He started the channel back with Uncharted 2 and he showed concerns with the direction The Last of Us - Part II was taking and he got a large amount of hate from people who called him a traitor of Naughty Dog. He is a pretty down to earth person from the videos I saw, and never seems to be disrespectful on his opinions towards the studio. People started to blow his comments out of proportion to spread hate.

I watched the beginning and end of the linked video. The guy was disheartened while playing the last segment of the story, he said (paraphrasing) if this was Uncharted 4, I would have quit gaming (not in a derogatory way of speaking, but more like sad and feeling betrayed).

I don't know why Gaf hates the guy so much, but he can express his opinion, and he actually played the game until the very end, not even skipping the credits. I feel like his voice must weight more than your average gamer because he was considered a shill of the studio not too long ago.

Holy shit this game just keeps going.

I thought I had finished it multiple times but now made it to...

California. Wtf

Also, I'm all the way team Abby. Ellie is a cunt.

Abby's a great character, never thought I'd warm to her but I have.

Her half of the game has been so much better than Ellie's half so far in my opinion.
I felt the same. I'm near end now. I'll probably have to hop on my PC to do a break down of what I think of the full game with spoiler tags.

Captain Hero

The Spoiler Soldier
Just finished the game ..

Just wow.. I can’t express my feelings right now but I hate everything that happened in this game and I love everything that happened in this game . The way it ended , how the fuck I like the one who caused the pain ? .. how can I like the one who took my favorite character? .. this fucking game man

Abby is a great character.. whenever I remember the scene of Joel being tortured I just wanna kill her but when I remember her story and what she did , I just can’t do it .. literally I couldn’t do it at the end I didn’t strike her I just stopped For a minute . Naughty Dog has just raised the bar and it’s too high man ..

i really almost cry when She complained to Joel for not letting her stay with fireflies.. man the look on his face and eyes just broke my heart ..
What a great game

I agree with you there lol I physically winced everytime she jumped down from a ledge. That poor fucking baby. I did like the whole aspect

of seeing how they feed their soldiers, hand out objectives, vehicles, assign animals, finally glimpsing the stadium that was constantly referenced in notes previously was neat. I don't think I've seen a game do that. Its like if Metroid had a chapter where you play as a space pirate

This all sounds like mental illness.

Only thing i personally don’t like about the game so far is open area. I hate it in uncharted 4 and i hate it in this game.
