Yo I just did the first 'main dungeon' (calling it this for spoiler purposes) and wtf man- it had good puzzles but thats it? One room? I thought we would get some massive dungeons with multiple rooms like OoT. Remember the Water Temple etc?

Man that's what this game is really missing- those big ass dungeons. Unless things change later on, that's quite disappointing for me.

And knowing how the shrines work, I imagine the other 'main dungeons' follow a similar format.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan

Yeah, maybe my only real disappointment with the game. The dungeons are just, eh. like bigger shrines. Like, they have the "dungeon mechanic" thing but none of the other stuff previous dungeons had (like getting a new item and then using that to explore previously locked rooms).

To be honest though it doesn't bum me out too much because the shrines are basically a bunch of dungeons that had their rooms scattered across the world, so while you aren't really getting that dungeon experience, all in one go with a cool boss at the end, you are getting a lot of puzzles spread out while you're exploring the world and having fun.

Anyone else feel the music is lacking? I only seem to notice music when I'm near an enemy, in a village or the very few piano keys at the
temple of time
(Which is really nice actually).

I want something epic when I walk through the open land.

Only about 7 hours in so hopefully it changes.

With the music I kind of like how its sparse and low key. To me it kind of adds to this experience of it being this wide open world where nature has taken back most of it and the places where the music is out in full force are the most populated areas.

Yeah, it's the single thing I miss in BOTW so far. I could have lived with the number of Shrines being cut in half and that content put into the Titans instead. To make up for it villages and stables could have been a fast travel point of their own (like the
research institutes
) instead of having a shrine directly next to them.

I'm trying to light the damn Akkala research facility and I realized I don't have a torch.

Is there a trick to this or is this going to take a while?

I don't know where to get a torch. Recommendations? I might have to go all the way back to the Great Plateau at this rate.

I prefer the small shrine type gameplay over big complicated dungeons. Keeps your mind working even during the treks from location to location as you uncover shrines en route, without getting the dread of a huge-ass dungeon to explore.

When I realised the 'main' dungeons were fairly small, I was quite pleased to be honest!

Do you have a wooden sword or korok leaf? Those might work, not sure for blue flame.

I too recently finished the first divine beast and maybe seeing all the negative impressions for them lowered my expectations but I loved it, some of those solutions required some legit thought

I dunno, I'm not missing forest temple or water temple or any temple - between the shrines and the beats this game scratches that itch - the world itself is the star here and I wouldn't change a thing about it

I think I found a torch at the Stables nearby. The Hateno research facility, with easy warp point, had a torch inside as well.

I'm mixed, the wilderness is big that I don't know if I would've liked big dungeons without a risk to feel burn out but I also liked themed old dungeons.

You don't need a torch, just use a moblin/bokoblin club, or any other wooden weapon. After lighting a lantern put it out by putting it away, then relight the weapon and head on to the next lantern. That way your weapon doesn't burn up.

I think the dungeon approach here is a nice change of pace. I love the big temples and dungeons of previous games but they were becoming too formulaic, I think they needed a shake up. Won't mind seeing big dungeons in the future but the series needed to add some variety and challenge the traditions.

....theres trees all around that torch.

this one?

This game. I swear it's the first game I've played to have a 1:1 representation of its concept art and premise in-game. I feel like I am playing exactly what the developers had in mind. There is very little dissonance between what the game set out to do and what it actually presents.

I know that's a fairly obtuse way to explain it, but it's hard to put into words. Like, I have climbed a mountain and seen a scene almost exactly like this one in the game. I was like, oh, this is exactly the vibe I got from the artwork...

I need some help with a sidequest from the Zora River

I'm accompanying a letter from a little Zora girl down the river and now there are some wooden boxes and barrels blocking the way - I cant use the sword to reach them and right now I'm too afraid to use fire arrows or bombs, since she told me the letter is easily broken. Anyone had the same problem?

I just bombed the barricades before the letter reached it, it worked fine.

I also love the dungeon aspect. Compact, no single filler, no room to room design. Everything is open.

And the best part is the metroid prime like map. Nintendo making maps great again.

Just doing the
Zora
quest where I have to find the 10 inscribed monuments. The 5th one has some serious timeline info:
It talks about Ruto, the Zora sage from OoT and her story being from a time long ago, before that of the Great Calamity and the creation of the Divine Beasts (which was up to this moment the oldest referenced event in the story at 10,000 years ago). This game must be the last in the timeline given how long after OoT it takes place.

Btw, this game probably has the worst voice acting ever. It is ATROCIOUS. Wish we could hear japanese voiceovers

I don't have anything positive to say about the VA, but come on, it's not that bad. You must have forgotten how laughably bad 90s voice acting could get.

I think the dungeons are good for the time you're actually in there, but they are way too short and there are way
too few
.

Shrines are nice mini-dungeons, but they all look the exact same...

I would have loved to have more big dungeons and more varied shrines. The actual puzzle design is great.

Ya. I wish the music was more prominent . Playing Nier Automata right now and it's making me miss the music in BotW even more

Still hooked on this game. I've got all the memories now and I've just found my 2nd Fairy Fountain. I'm going to find the others and do some side quests next, as I've not really done many of them yet and I'm in no rush to do the 3 remaining dungeons and face Ganon at the castle, as there is still so much to do and explore.

The only things I'm not totally loving are the towers, which are starting to become a bit of a chore to climb (thankfully I've only got a few left now) and some of the Shrines (the combat ones) are getting a little same old. It would have been nice to see different layouts for the combat arena's, instead of the same big open room each time. I even found one Shrine that didn't have a puzzle or combat and you just walk a few steps and get the Orb (it said something like "You are worthy for making it to the Shrine") I'm really enjoying the Shrines with actual puzzles though, they are great. It's a shame they are not all puzzle Shrines.

Also riding a bear into battle is awesome lol the freedom in this game is really refreshing.

It's whimsical and overwrought and overdelivered - it's Zelda and I dont really have a problem with any of it because it fits within the sort of fantastical nature of he world

If this sort of delivery was present in a more grounded game like TLOU - then yes - of course - atrocious

Shrines are way too stingy with arrows.

Have to leave this
Blue Flame
shrine near the end because I have no ammo. It gave me a bow though!

Is there any trick to finding the 12 locations in the camera or is it just sort of explore and you'll eventually recognize the places

Shrines are separated into 3-4 types:
- combat
- puzzle
- unlocking
- event island XD

There're some
battle dungeons
oriented but they're optional and not many might find them.

I am finally suffering from The Rupee Problem™.

I only have 800 Rupees left after gradually purchasing armor when it became available. Now I need 3,000 Rupees to buy
a house.

I haven't sold any of my minerals because I know they're eventually used for crafting and upgrading. Same for all my ancient mechanical parts. Short of selling those, what's the most efficient way to get a lot of Rupees? I know selling cooked food is supposed to be a good way, but truthfully, I need a lot of that stuff because I'm playing with a low heart count.

Each stable you find has the painter you first meet in kakariko village who gives you hints. Each location offers a new hint on a different picture. Using the landmarks in the pictures though, it's fun to try to find them yourself. The only bullshit one is 12, of a random forest. I had zero clue about it till I was lucky enough to find the stable where that was the hint.

It just kills any emotion for me. I'm straining to feel the feels but the voices kill the feels that I would have felt had they been delivered with feelings.

I can take solace in the fact that these are only relegated to cutscenes.

Mark the rare deposit and places where there's a lot of deposits on your map whenever it's near a teleport. Stop by to mine from time to time and sell some of your minerals when you need rupees. You can also sell half of any monster part that you have above 50.
I never had any rupee nor materials issue that way so far and I buy almost everything I can on a regular basis.

I stumbled across that one yesterday while exploring the river by that stable. It's funny you say its a random forest, that seemingly has no identifiers, but as soon as I saw it I was like WAIT A SECOND, having remembered the picture. Sure enough, the spot was exactly where I thought it was

I read that eventually there is a character you uses monster parts as currency. I've been hoarding them for that reason. But there's a few things I have 99 of, so I guess I'm going doing myself any favors.

Didn't read all of the replies, but there is one right inside of the building.

Wow... Lynel's are no joke. Am I supposed to
kill the one for the Zora mission or just run around collecting lightning arrows?
<- Mission spoilers

Yeah that wasn't an issue either but as long as you don't avoid most fight you should have more than enough to buy everything from him too.

So, I just encountered my first
Dragon
at Lake Hylia. That thing nearly gave me a heart attack, when it suddendly appeared - but man, the music, the atmosphere... simply magnificent!
Not sure if I'm supposed to fight it or not - so far it seems quite impossible. At least I managed to shoot it and it dropped an precious item. No Idea what to do with it, but oh well :D

Don't be a wimp and kill him :).
Shoot regular arrows at his head to stun him, run towards him and mount with A, and hack away, get thrown off and repeat.
Died like 10 times or so. Felt very Dark Souls-y!

Minor (?) Boss Spoilers Below.

Master Kohga is the first non world boss I've fought, and I have to say. He's great fun. This game continues to impress!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do feel like I need to kill it I might give this strategy a go:
