The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom Final Trailer is Here

Was on the fence a little, as so little had been shown and nothing was blowing me away. I suppose the marketing for Breath of the wild was a little more open, even more so with Nintendo devoting a whole E3 event to it. This trailer however has totally changed my mind.

Looks promising for sure, I hope we get more of those animal (camel/bird/elephant/lizard) puzzle dungeons, those were my favourite parts of the last game.

I was just reacting to the exaggerated nature of the post. Also, I hate Apex.
Give me a break. The only thing I said is it runs circles around what you can do in other open-world games. BOTW is considered the best open-world game out there, Zelda is the highest acclaimed franchise in the industry, ever, and the FUSE system extends gameplay options way past BOTW. Nothing about that is exaggerated.

Looks good, or as good as it gets on the hardware. As always I'm going to play with the Japanese dub to get some much needed "Cultural distance". The English in the trailer made my toes curl and gave me what kids today call "cringe".

The depiction of Ganon? Is that a new avatar or a previous incarnation returning to Hyrule. He kinda looked like Twilight Princess's Ganondorf and the voice over says "... you witness a King's revival, and the birth of his new world". I'm guessing that's from the intro where Ganon robs Link of his powers to resurrect. A good narrative device to explain why the player needs to start over with three hearts again.

Nintendo was a lot more reliant on BOTW than they are on TOTK. So felt more confident keeping things secret.

I guess Nintendo had a particular angle about the development of this game and thus the end result needs to be approached in a certain way. What can be achieved if you free up dev resources by basing a new game on a largely pre-existing map? How much new content can you cram into it? It's not readily exciting but it is an intriguing proposition nonetheless. However, Aonuma said something during his introduction, "using your imagination to the fullest while exploring". By leaning so hard into crafting/sandbox gameplay elements, is this still an adventure game in the traditional sense? I wonder how they refer to TOTK's genre internally at Nintendo.

Good, Hype inducing trailer.
That still makes the game feel like it's mostly "tweaked Hyrule" rather than having just as much new land to explore.

All the possibilities they show off are really cool and maybe I'm totally wrong, but I do get the feeling the player has to make his own fun.

A bit like Minecraft: the game doesn't really push you into something interesting, you have to get active to find fun stuff to do.

Which is totally cool, but probably not for everybody.

And I'm a bit sad I sold my Switch now ;)

Yuzu Emu?

It seems like the puzzles will be environmental, maybe like Bowswer's Story, that are just found. They'll be part of the world.

Are there dungeons? still a maybe.

Getting some real Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy vibes from this trailer.

It also felt like a response trailer… as if it was made to shut us all up until the game comes out.

It was great, and I want to go back and watch it again and again. But I will hold off for now, that was jam packed. They said 3 minutes, damn near pushed it to 4. Quite a long trailer for Nintendo standards.

anyways…

It's BotW with extra complexity of the kind I don't care to have in my Zelda. I'm more interested in upcoming romhacks of classics.

I wasn't that big on botw. While it was a good game, it was not a good Zelda to me. This trailer really didn't do anything for me. I need to just sell my switch at this point

Still kind of curious how well this game runs. It looks so jam packed with the seamless traversal from sky to land etc.

I still have my launch day Switch.. That tiny six-year old fan will be working overtime in the coming months.

Looks good! I'm going to take my sweet time with it and enjoy it as a beautiful swan song to my Switch. I think I'll buy a semi expensive whiskey bottle to sip while I play.

Yeah I also got a Twilight Princess vide from TotK even before this trailer, it has to do with the esthetic of the underground and that green energy that's been everywhere since the first teaser. Big missed opportunity if the dragon/goat guy isn't a Twili.

I don't really understand how the initial concerns about TotK have been dismissed by this trailer.

Sure, it is hype, well done, music is cool. But, apart from some new gameplay features and Ganondorf, I don't really see how it adresses the following concerns :

- Dungeons ? We see interiors yes, and maybe that temple emerging from the desert is one, but the last trailer for BotW also showed us the interiors of the Giant Beasts which implied they were the dungeons, and they were really not satisfying in the end. Thus it also only show us cave interiors, the inside of Death Mountain (which could very well be be a dungeon, yes) and the Hyrule Castle. I haven't seen any interiors seemingly ressembling to a specific dungeons theme. I shall rewatch it.
- They don't show items. It's probably not here. So the grapple and iconic items are mostly not integrated into the puzzle dungeons design if they're present.
- The map is mostly the same aside from some minor changes here and there. Exploration WILL take a hit because of that.
- Weapons breaking system still here. And no, coupling a shield with a branch does not mitigate the fact that they will break in the end, making exploration less enjoyable because of the lack of real rewards. If they did not adress the lack of rewards that almost everybody felt after a while, then I'll be disapointed. And no, orbs are not meaningful enough to constitute a good reward. Seriously, it's like only having quarter hearts as rewards in previous Zelda. Exploration is not a reward in itself either... it's complementary.
- At least, it seems we have real bosses and not a copy pasta with a different element.
- Sky Islands are nice, but there's not a lot of them. The surface is much bigger, and we already explored it once.
- It seems to be the same progression design than BotW, and I'm not into it.

Seriously, 6 years for that, reusing the same assets. In 6 years, they built BotW from scratch, and it was their first HD Zelda game ! I bought it for really cheap (37€), so for a game that still feels like an expansion, it's ok for that price (I mean, BotW "expansion" was 29€...).

Every time I see Zelda trailers I just wonder how they would look running on a PS5...and remember when Nintendo released top power consoles

Feeling great ad hominem troll disliking a game that looks like it belongs on PS3 has NOTHING to do with "feeling good", just have functional eyes and I've seen video games in 2023.

All most people need is flashing lights it seems to keep them happy.
I don't mind those who aren't enthused with this game or series, but are you ever satisfied? Like ever? It must be exhausting.

Go back to /v/ and don't forget to mention how Genshin Impact is better!

I expect dungeon-like places to have puzzles that are based on fusing items and components.

So instead of "you need to use the grapple hook since you picked it up here," it would be something like "you need to figure out a way to fuse items to bridge this gap or solve this situation," where there would likely be some plants or other components growing in the dungeon related to possible solutions and fusing options.

For me it's just the vibe. The Twilight Princess vibe stems from the darker themes going on midway thru the trailer. As well as the feel of it giving what fans were asking for. Dungeons or something similar is in, different kinds of bosses with new gameplay styles (Twilight excelled at this, remember Arbiter's Grounds?) It seems like they are trying to go for a traditional Zelda experience crammed into the open world of BotW.

Galaxy vibes come from what seem like a whole plethora of weird and wacky gameplay concepts that fit in here. Twilight toyed with this in a lot of ways, magnetic boots + shooting things upside down is a fond memory of mine.

But this seems like it's on a Mario like level, spinning islands, gravity changing jumps… despite it being a very long trailer we still don't know exactly what the hell is going on. Obviously Ganondorf is getting resurrected, and whoever who was talking in the last trailer was not him. Maybe a new Yiga boss?

As for the Goat guy? And the angelic looking woman… I think they are Gods. One part of the trailer you can see the Malice shooting up into the sky smashing into what is like an invisible force? Perhaps the Sacred Realm?

A lot of this trailer kinda lines up with a leak I read a few months ago… but then again there are parts that totally clash with that.

Either way, looks like we are in for an interesting ride.

I didn't even play Genshin. Maybe shut the fuck up ?

Yes, and those puzzles are really interesting. The problem is that you probably obtain all those powers in the beginning of the game, like in BotW. So you don't feel that you can do new things in terms of progression after obtaining a new power/item (you know that classic Zelda feeling) in the overworld or even in dungeons, you always have all the keys to resolve a puzzle.

As a result, the feeling of progression and the way the puzzles and the overworld are designed are really impacted in a negative way imo. But I really love all the physics systems and powers and the "find your solution" style, it's just sad that the progression around those systems is not well designed.

I remember at E3 2017 when they showed a trailer of then upcoming Super Mario Odyssey. That trailer oozed with creativity like I had never seen before. This trailer wasn't quite on that level, but came damn close. One more month to go.

It might be stuck in 2008 with its graphics (but not really, as the vistas look completely insane), but the gameplay variety is 10 years ahead of anything in gaming.

The open-world possibilities on display here are not comparable to anything. This looks like a Super Mario Galaxy 2 situation, where they took the original and built a pure-breed 3D platformer that no 3D platformer has even come close to yet.

Frankly, what they showed in this trailer runs circles around anything I have ever seen in an open-world game in terms of what you can do.
And yet
Tears of the Kingdom is not gonna get over 95, I can tell you that right now,
Hmmmm.
