If she gets more than 8 months and a fine, I'd be shocked.

I'd guess wealthy non-celebs do these things and get off quietly with little penalty, which is why as a celeb, they thought they would just get away with it too.

Someone non-sarcastically suggesting she should get the death penalty for this is quite the take though. Damn.

doubly funny when everyone keeps telling me college is a waste of time.

like, it's already a sham, Harvard admitted to racist policies for decades over things far more damaging than this one person. college has kind always been a place for privileged kids.

personally im like "dont hate the player hate the game" on this one

Where did I say she shouldn’t be punished?

How does

Enter your brain, and you come away with

She will probably lose her case, and spend a few years in jail. That is a perfectly fine punishment, considering that yes she didn’t physically harm anyone. She lied and bribed people. That isn’t a murder.

well now that it’s been put on the table...

You were basically arguing against her serving any time.

While, yeah duh, it's not as bad as something like murder, it's still a crime that has sentencing guidelines and a Max and a minimum number of years.

Which is why I think she should get the maximum (to set an example) and why I also think she won't serve any real time at all.

Probably home arrest for a year and a massive fine.
I think a massive fine (not a slap on the wrist) that goes towards scholarships, school funding or financial aid would be a decent solution. But I doubt the fines would ever get funded down the proper channels, so....

Not really. He was making a "punishment should be proportional to the crime" argument, with the example that what she did isn't as bad as if she had killed someone.

I mean comparing any crime to Murder will make that crime look less important. The reason bribery crimes tend to rack up years is normally down to the fact that to pull off that crime you need to break several laws and those charges stacked up can produce a lengthy jail term.

Quote me. Quote where I said she should get no jail time

Exactly my point!

"It's not as bad as murder" is the laziest argument when it comes to these things. It comes off as "they shouldn't get prison time"... Laws are still laws the last time I looked. But things like this always seem to go a different way ... But I'll leave that alone for now.

I'll remember this thread the next time I see people here complain about mandatory minimums.

Sentencing is done in the context of other laws and prior sentences. "It's not as bad as murder" is the point. A fair justice system recognized the severity of the crime. If it wasn't, than why not just give the death penalty and be done with it.

By the way, still waiting

i don't think her looks helped a lot. a little, perhaps, but it was really the money to get the best attorneys she can and then the fact she is someone slightly famous.

My bad. I just hate these arguments about it not being a serious crime. To me it IS. There are a set number of min to Max sentencing she could get for her charges, and because she's rich, she will likely get the least amount of time below the minimum ... Unlike if it was someone like you or me, we'd get the maximum.

No, you didn't literally say that. I was being hyperbolic. Shouldn't have been. My bad.

What she did was pretty slimy but she clearly isnt a danger to anyone, you don’t throw someone like Lori Loughlin behind bars, that’s where people who are a danger to people and society itself belong. Watch a prison documentary, people who go to prison are mostly fucked, some get in for bullshit reasons, but most are wickedly fucked. Not a place for Lori Loughlin, if that wasn’t obvious
