The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

Looks like the Espgaluda II soundtrack is the 1-disc version that was bundled with the game, not the standalone 2-disc release as the cover would suggest.

I already own the former but I would have gladly paid for the latter - but it looks like there is no arrange content in any of these releases as yet.

that's a shame. galuda ii's black label ost is probably my favorite

Anyone care to share some links please? Outside of iTunes I can't find anything on Google or Amazon Music.

Cave's Twitter account is now EVAC industries? Please be a sign of Ketsui PC port or Ketsui 2!

Although probably just April fools...

Having a ton of fun digging into Mushihimesama lately. I played and enjoyed some of it back when it first hit Steam, but now it's really clicking with me - think I'm pretty close to reaching the final stage on a credit (on Normal Original). Great stuff.

The next Steam port is probably going to be Ketsui... prepare to meet DOOM!

not really, unless you're crazy good at the game or use training mode

Made it into the last level of Mushihimesama (normal original). I died right before the midboss though, and really I limped my way into the stage anyway. Too many segments that I feel like I have down easily in practice (like the stage 3 boss and the stage 4 dragon party) but end up consistently fucking up / bombing through during real runs; I'll have to get more consistent before I can get serious about stage 5 / clearing the game. Definitely not comfortable with getting the stage 3 1up without using bombs, lol - I wish training mode let you start in the middle of stage 3 or something.

I think this is probably my second-favorite Cave game so far, after Ketsui (which is probably too hard for me but is still fuck-awesome). I think I like Mushi more than Espgaluda (my only Cave 1CC and probably my most played of their games) so far, really - Espgaluda's unique mechanics are really fun to play around with, and I absolutely love its aesthetics, but even for a STG novice like me, its difficulty curve is a little too gentle - the game doesn't ever really start putting the screw to you until stage 4. Mushi probably has the nicest-feeling difficulty curve out of all the Cave shooters I've played (I imagine this will change if I get better though); it never feels too easy but also doesn't feel like a brick wall at any point. The fast bullet speed makes it always feel pretty intense, too (I actually kind of like normal more than 1.5, the latter feels sort of lacking in comparison). The lack of any real scoring system (in original at least) is a little unfortunate though. I'm not at the level where I really consider my score, but I do think the scoring systems in Ketsui and Espgaluda are fun to poke at - I guess this is the main reason a lot of hardcore Cave fans don't rank Mushihimesama too highly?

Also been messing a little with Dodonpachi - I was trying to 1CC it back before Mushihimesama came out, and only now have been putting in a few credits here and there. Definitely a lot tougher for me than Mushihimesama, even if DDP's huge stack of bombs act as a pretty powerful crutch. I feel like I should learn Mushi better before I try to learn the last levels of DDP (my best in DDP is mid-stage 5, and I seriously can't get anywhere in that level without just bombing the hell out of it - my STG fundamentals are pretty weak since I kind of got weaned on Espgaluda's constant "free" bullet cancelling).

All awesome games though. I'm kind of interested in playing Deathsmiles sometime, it'd be cool to try out one of their horizontal shooters.

Afaik Mushi is considered a great game, but everyone usually focuses on Maniac because it's the one that feels more like classic Cave and have a real scoring system. If you like Mushi Original, you'd love Futari Original, it's the same concept but with a scoring system that makes it a lot more fun.

Mushi 1's Original Mode scoring is super plain, but still, it's one of my favorite modes to play when I just feel like focusing in on a line and shooting stuff. And with the end game bonuses being so high, it's fun to try to beat it without losing any lives if you get into it. Futari certainly expands upon the vanilla concept, and I think nails it with BL Original.

Maniac's parent/child counter system is a blast, that was fun to 1CC, and I should work on Ultra one of these days... Or maybe improve my Maniac score! But Mushihimesama is indeed special, certainly one I would recommend to anyone with an interest in playing these games.

Dodonpachi stage 5 is some shit. I was not prepared.

I know I "just" need to get the rest of the game down, and then I can kind of bomb my way through the last levels, but consistency is so hard!

if the game supports tate with non-rotated controls then you should be able to hold it vertically like that.

It works on PSP (and Vita) with homebrew and Cave emulator, and I remember there was a shmup for PSP which supported "TATE" mode, just the name doesn't come up with my mind right now

Not sure if its within the posting rules but I know fans of this thread would be interested in this.

I happen to have an extra Matsuri DLC code for MMP/Pink Sweets (got first print standard game with code but then another with the CE package). If interested just send a PM to me to discuss

Speaking of Muchi Muchi Pork - I hadn't paid any attention to that game until now, but wow, it actually looks pretty fun. For whatever reason, Yagawa's style of games have kind of turned me off, but MMP looks like a great fusion between his style with Cave's, and although I don't really like the characters, I really enjoy the game's art (and its aesthetics overall).

I really hope it ends up being one of the titles to hit Steam. But given its theme (and its console port's bundle status), I'm kind of concerned it won't make the jump. Hopefully someday.

MMP is a top-tier Cave game for me. I really hope it makes it to Steam for the sake of anyone that can't play it on 360.

Thanks, I missed the other thread! So it looks like the next port is some kind of DDP... not my favorite series, but nice to have it on Steam.

trouble spots for my DDP 1-ALL:

-stage 3 second half, including boss and his random patterns
-stage 4 3 big carriers with the highway of enemies
-Stage 4 boss
-Stage 5 moving left and right between the pink popcorn bullets until you get to the big base you can destroy
-stage 5 boss
-fuckin everything in stage 6

Yeah, pretty much everything in the last two levels is just crazy. I can generally do alright until the end of stage 4 (after the highway bit you mention), then things start falling apart.

Stage 5 & 6: Bomb everything.

The game is very generous with bombs. I don't think they actually expect you to dodge all that shit, lol.

Can you set the controls so that shoot and bomb are mapped to different directions on the left analog stick? (this type of custom control config was possible for 1941 and Varth on Capcom Classics Remixed on PSP which made playing them in TATE soooo much more viable than other PSP shmups).

So.... I bough a 360, with notably Dodopachi Daioujou...

I play with an arcade stick (Seimitsu LS32 joystick), but I get crushed around zone 3. How do I git gud ?

My problem seems to be that even the slightest movement of the stick makes me move too much... (when you need precision positioning). Even in laser mode. (Btw, tu you set the joystick as D-pad , or LS ? any difference ?)

Any advices ?

Also : are Black Label and 1.51 DLC worth it ? What do they change ?

Thanks !

I love the game and would like to enjoy it more.

Definitely only use your stick in d-pad mode. Setting it to emulate an analog stick will probably cause movement issues.

DOJ is on the upper end of difficulty for the genre as a whole. You shouldn't have a reasonable expectation of getting deep into that game without a LOT of work.

Are you maybe mixing up Daioujou with Daifukkatsu, JonStark? 1.51 and Black Label DLC are Daifukkatsu things (and Black Label is totally worth it).

DOJ is really hard. I don't think it's beatable without route practice.

I played in an emulator and set a save point at each stage and also at the trouble spots. And I would run it over and over again and stitch it together. Stage 3 & 4 have a rhythm to them. They are very difficult, but they are also some of the best ever shmup stages.

All told, I think I had between 60 - 80 hours invested into the game, but there were some long breaks in there so I needed to relearn some parts.

----------

Daifukkatsu you should be able to beat without too much problems if you have the autobomb active. It'll put up a respectable fight, but it's not a bad game to start with either.

Yeah most likely. And Black Label is the only redeeming thing about DFK, the only Cave game that feels cheap IMO other than Pink Sweets.

Thank you all for the info. I was indeed confusing names...
Still, What I can't get over is how high the space in some patterns is, compared to the"minimum" movement of the ship with the slightest touch of the joypad.

I've never used a Seimitsu, but I suspect if there was anything specific to that stick it would be known by now and I can't recall any complaints to that effect.

How does it compare to videos? Is there a timestamp for a section you can link to that maybe we could give a little more specific advice for?

Hello all. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who might be interested in a LE Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets w/ unused DLC code. I actually have an extra so no real need for 2 of them.

Also have an extra LE Dondonpachi Saidaioujou which is pretty much untouched since I ended up getting the Super Limited Edition version instead.

If interested in either (or both) send a PM

Nice to see that Cave's real-time 3D rendering capabilities are improving. At this rate, they should be able to release their first decent-looking 3D game in about 10 more years.

Heh.
And I didn't realize you were here, too! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

they should make a polygonal VR STG where everything plays out in a diorama in front of you.

this won't happen.

Next Steam port when?

I really want to play Ketsui.

These are dark times for Cave. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dodonpachi-unlimited/id1160707533?mt=8

This... came out two days ago. Like the last mobile Dodonpachi game, it involves grinding stage 1 and stage 2 of Saidaioujou over and over again for coins to buy upgrades. Eventually you can unlock harder versions of stage 1 and stage 2, which you have to pay coins to play. Then you fight Hibachi, so... stages 3-5 just don't exist.

And there's also a premium currency that you can only buy with real money.
