New trailer for Bug Princess, aka Mushihimesama 1 (NOT FUTARI LULZ)

http://bit.ly/ulm7HG

Release Date: December 15 (less than 1 week!).

Price: Five Bucks (doesn't say anything about this being a temporary price... it is an older game, so perhaps that is why).

MUST BUY. obviously.

Oh and.... it's apparently a universal app!

(I believe that the iPad version of Espgaluda II was in HD, which is why that one was sold separately from the iPhone verison. I don't expect them to do that for this game, so it is nice of them to just include iPad + iPhone/Touch functionality in one app)

Cool beans. Ipad supoort is a welcome addition.

Was that a Futari teaser at the end there?

Been playing more Futari 1.5 Original, this time with Palm. Got 358m with Abnormal and 305m with Normal. Abnormal Palm is a pain in the ass to play because his shot is so weak, so I think the stages are a little harder for him than any of the other characters. Normal Palm's shot is strong, but his laser is stupid weak so I usually have to bomb some parts of stage 5 and the a few of the bosses. He's still fun to use though, more fun than Abnormal Palm imo.

Think I'm gonna go back to Akai Katana for that last achievement now.

Bummer, missed it by a week. No wifi now so I'll have to get it next year. Looking forward to impressions!

I'm 95% percent sure that was an Akai Katana teaser at the end as the silhouettes matched characters from that game. That's been rumored for a bit as well.

I wonder how the scoring system works in this version. Arcade Mushi required alternating between various tapping frequencies on the shot and laser buttons to get more points on big enemies. In the PS2 version you could set different tapping speed to different autofire buttons to make it easier, but here...?

how do I slip unnoticed out of a gloryhole booth?
I was referring to "Bug Princess" I guess. ugh. what a dumb sounding name, even if it's the literal translation.

Literal translations usually sound pretty dumb. The logic behind doing them usually is too. ;o

Just played up to the third level boss, and as soon as I blew him up, the app crashed and didn't save any of my scores/achievements. :(

I'm playing it on iPad 1, and "universal" means that the screen area is the same as an iPhone, and the rest of the screen is the wallpaper where you can drag your finger around to move the character. Not sure if I like that. Also, does the scrolling seem choppy to anyone else? Like it's skipping frames? Oddly enough, it only does that during the open field stages, but when something huge is on screen, it scrolls perfectly smooth.

I do like the fact auto-bomb costs all your bomb stock.

EDIT: The options for screen size has a "large" size available, which makes the entire screen the game screen. That's more like it. And again, I get up the the last boss(?) and the fucking thing crashes. This shit is annoying me now. Patch this shit Cave.

EDIT 2: Maniac mode is fun as hell. I was just about to say it's been behaving itself, and just now it crashed on a loading screen.

Did the PH version of Espgaluda II start going up in price recently or did I mistakenly think it was cheaper a few months back? I don't want to miss out on picking it up if it's already on its way out.

So now that the PAL version of DDP Resurrection is out, is there any chance it actually works on NTSC consoles? The US hasn't gotten any physical releases since DS and I'm guessing it's going to stay that way.

Also, I thought I had read something in this thread maybe last week about a potential Muchi Muchi reprint. Any word or rumor on that?

Never played Bug Princess before. Surprised at how easy the bosses are, fifth level one on Hard is a breeze.

Keep in mind, "hard" on the iPhone is easier than normal in the arcade, not only because of the simplified bullet patterns, but also because of the way CAVE lets you control your ship.

The currency exchange rate means that everything from Japan is more expensive now. I'm not sure of the numbers, but I think once a game hits Platinum status it'll be around for a while. But if you do grab it now, you will be paying more.

PAL DDP Resurrection works just fine on NTSC-U/C systems. Not NTSC-J though.

Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets is currently in stock at Amazon.co.jp, but there aren't any meaningful discounts on it. It seems to trickle in every once in a while, and I could have sworn the regular edition was going for ~4,000 yen a few weeks ago. I wouldn’t expect any importers to restock it.

I just got Bug Princess, which seems like a nice return to form so far (I didn't really like Deathsmiles). A couple questions:

Anyone have scoring tips for original or maniac/ultra modes?

Is there any way to get that Openfeint banner off the otherwise pretty title screen?

Oh snap, my sister just got a 360 for her birthday, which means I can finally start playing Cave's more recent shmups (yeah I've still been playing O.G. Espgaluda and Mushihimesamsa on my Japanese PS2). Can't wait to play the "new" stuff! From what I've gathered over the years, I should buy the following versions (and I live in the USA, btw, and from what I've read these are all either region free or USA version with Death Smiles)

Death Smiles, US version (ok after a patch I think?)
Mushi Futari 1.5 platinum hits JP version
Espgaluda 2 black label platinum hits JP version
Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Eu version
Ketsui isn't region free, so I'm screwed there eh?

Can one of GAF's Cave-heads chime in here and let me know if I'm making the correct version selections here? Also, aren't there going to be some downloads I need for some of these titles to get them up to par, or do the platinum hits versions contain these updates on the disc?? If not, is there a way for me to get this DLC, with a U.S. based Live account? (I don't know shit about Xbox Live, sorry if this question is stupid, lolz)

You can add the Muchi Muchi Pork / Pink Sweets retail bundle since it is region free as well. As for DLC, Mushihimesama Futari Black Label is available for 1200 MS points on most marketplaces regardless of region, but you will need an european account for Dodonpachi Resurrection Black Label DLC, which is 800 MS points; Dodonpachi Resurrection Black Label Arrange (Ketsuipachi or DDP Daifukketsui) is yet to be announced for the european version, though I wouldn´t get my hopes high.

Espgaluda II does not have any DLC, and besides the Standard modes it includes Black Label, Arrange, and Omake modes on disc. Don´t forget to get Guwange on XBLA, I think you can get it right now for 400 MS Points and it goes back to 800 MS points tomorrow. Also Akai Katana Shin is coming to PAL land, but I don´t know if it is going to be compatible with NTSC-U systems.

EDIT: Also I heavily recommend getting a flash drive and install Mushihimesama Futari and its DLC and play from there, since the game´s speed is kind of messed up if it´s running from HDD.

You can also add Deathsmiles 2 (a better game than Deathsmiles when played in Arcade mode, if you ask me), which is available in North America via Games On Demand.

Deathsmiles US is good after a patch, yes.

You'd be good for a while without Mushi's DLC, but Daifukkatsu's DLC is vital, IMO.

Top priority should be Mushi Futari.

You are screwed when it comes to Ketsui on your NA 360.

Hmm so considering that not all of the DLC is available with the EU version of Daifukkatsu, should I just hold off on Daifukkatsu until I get a J360 someday? (plus I will need one to play Ketsui anyway) My only concern is that this DLC gets taken offline at some point and I lose my chance forever.

Get Daifukkatsu PAL + Black Label. You'll be straight for a very long time.
1.5 - Good
Arrange A - Also good
Arrange B - It's....something
Black Label - Freaking required. Holy shit.

I've finally gotten around to putting some time in. Not sure if I like it as much as Dodonpachi(to be fair the original DDP has immunity since it's the game that got me back into 2D shooters) but it's certainly more enjoyable than DP and DoJ.

Hate the music though, especially the Black Label tracks.

All of the Daifukkatsu DLC (Black Label and version 1.51) is available on the EU marketplace. The Ketsui mode in DFKBL is only available in the retail version that Cave released, it was never DLC and probably never will be.

And this. I thought Death Smiles 1 was more enjoyable at first, but the game really falls apart once you try going for high end scores (300m+) imo. Just not fun at all.

What about DAT DAIFUKKETSUI DLC? Is it not that great?

Edit: Just saw post above mine, so Daifukketsui mode is on the disc itself after all? Guess I'm good with the EU version then...unless you mean it is on the JP disc only?

daifukketsui is pretty fun, but im not sure it's worth getting the disc for. honestly it feels really...messy. ketsui's shooting mechanics/scoring chips overlayed on black label's stars, medals and rank mechanics makes for kind of a clusterfuck. i haven't spent enough time to really give a good review or anything, but it hasn't grabbed me like i thought it would.

Hate the music though, especially the Black Label tracks.
everyone feels that way at first, but they'll grow on you. it is only a matter of time. :)

Been chipping away at 1.5 original yesterday and made it to larsa after about a dozen runs. Today I messed around in arrange and beat every mode on my first try (lol). Then I bought mushihimesama hutari black lavel and have been playing that ever since.

This is the best cave game.

I have a question. In Mushihimesama Futari Black Label, Original Mode - What are the requirements for the extend on the 3rd stage?

Edit: hmm, is it not stage specific but rather hitting 200mil?

There are three extends in Futari: two score-based ones at 100m and 200m (for BL Original), and one you can pick up on stage 5. So any extends on stage 3 are coming from score.

Shiiiiit. I suck so badly at shooters. I really enjoy them, but I tend to get easily discouraged and put them down. Also, I never really watch any vids. or read strategies for play/scoring.

Anyway, I got the itch again this past week and I'm playing some Futari. I'm semi-training for a potential 1CC(I'm just slightly considering the possibility that I could actually do it at some point). Right now I can't even get to the stage 3 boss on one continue(playing original on BL).

It has been over a year since I got the game, and I just didn't remember that I had stretched the screen, vertically, to fit. I feel like I've probably diminished the visual quality. Does it affect gameplay in any real way? I just knocked it back to the default setting(looks so small now, haha).

Secondly, I saw someone mention(earlier in this thread) that installing the game to your HDD causes some weird hiccups in the game. I've always had it installed, so if that was the case I would've just thought it was normal. Is there truth to that? I just uninstalled it, but my 360 is old and really loud, so I like to have games installed when I can.

You can 1cc Black Label Original. Just start from the beginning on each Game Over and keep pounding away at it, paying attention to how you die each time. Training mode can make for a hell of a shortcut to learning the rougher spots, too.

Scaling the game up will definitely lower the display quality overall, but I'd keep it scaled to fill your screen. Especially if you aren't rolling tate. If you're on a TV, make sure you're on Game Mode to get the delay as low as possible. You probably already knew that!

I definitely got stuttering from Black Label being installed while the game was on my HDD. The solution was to move Black Label to a USB stick. Worked as an excuse to put a bunch of my bigger XBLA/DLC stuff on an external drive.

I actually just discovered that Score Attack appears to be the same as Normal, just that it's 1C only, which is nice. Definitely helps with motivation instead of automatically reaching for start.

I didn't realize Game Mode on TVs decreased delay. Thanks for the tip. Definitely going to switch to that. When I got my TV last year(first HDTV) and checked out game mode and saw the decreased contrast/brightness I just went back to the regular input. Good to know.

I'm finally getting better at my iOS Cave Shooters. I got to 150m in DDP Smartphone mode but I don't really know what my goal should be. I guess I should try to finish it without my score resetting - using a continue? 150m is top 5% on Game Center so I guess that's respectable but I know all the really good scores are in the 1% :)

I really like playing Bug Princess (Mushihimesama) but I don't get the chaining like I do grazing in DDP smartphone mode. And I can't seem to find any good videos to give me an idea on how to play to maintain a chain. I guess I'm talking about Maniac mode as Original seems to be just survival based? Can anyone help me out?

luka, did that one come with the two-disc OST? If so, I'm jealous. I love the soundtrack. It has such a classic anime vibe for me. Nice grab, anyway. I'm sure that didn't come cheap.

Yep, they're great arrangements too, especially 狂おしいほどに from futari stage 5.

Even though it's so easy I find myself revisiting futari arrange from time to time. It's really quite fun and ultra mode involves some neat frantic ikaruga-style character switching to repel waves of bullets. Original and Maniac really aren't worth playing though. Love god mode in BL too, maniac scoring makes it a lot more fun. Also the added chime sound for the counter in original is just what I thought was needed in 1.5. Good stuff all around.

for shits n giggles, my glorious collection - unfortunately still in a meager, not-quite-glorious stage:

I also have the US Deathsmiles, but it's in my closet because I can't play it either. Eying red katana next, but I really have cut back on purchases for a bit. I've spent way too much in the last month already. :p

Off topic, but is VO Force worth getting? How does it compare to OT?

Tain

Member
Force is a slower, watered-down, less-balanced, and 2 vs 2 version of OT. Lots of unlocking slight variations on the core cast of mechs (so lame). The number of combat options removed from OT is pretty frustrating, and everything is so slow. Honestly, while it might not have quite as much variety in terms of general player actions, the Gundam Vs. series overall does it better. It's faster, the character variety is ridiculous, and it doesn't feel like a butchered 1v1 game forced into a 2v2 one.

The port of Force is a good one, though. Pretty, some extra missions, decent netcode if you can get into a match, and 60fps 4-player split screen support (omg why doesn't Gundam Extreme Vs have this). I'd say it's worth it if you're really into OT (I'm a bit of a Virtual On nerd), but OT is very clearly the better game.

Probably not even worth mentioning but I 1CCed DDP:R 1.5 on Strong Style.
Honestly I feel really drained. Like three hours straight on a treadmill exhausted.

Dunno how kids these days can manage the second loop plus the ultimate final boss. Maybe I am getting old. Might have to hang it up before too much longer.
