The Mortal Kombat Spoilers Thread of ... spoilers in a fighting game?

I'm kind of digging how they are doing the story here, though I'm not sure how Quan Chi is fitting in all of this though.

Edit: But goddamn at his x-ray move.

The short and long of it? Q. Cheezy is the one running all of the Xanatos Gambits in this series. The original plotline (MK1-Armageddon) didn't really tell the whole scope of how this guy basically is responsible for 90% of all the bad things that happened in this series, but this game and its story revamp/re-telling will make SURE you know that fact. :lol

In a way, it's made me appreciate Cheezy a lot more than I did back when he was first introduced. And that alone makes me think that they could possibly do something interesting with the Shinnok plotline, now that they've got a second chance to tell it. Plus, considering how a good number of our beloved cast is DEAD or changed for good by the end of this, they're going to have to tell things in a decidedly different way for MK10/MKX.

wtf is up with shang tsung's fatality? joker from mk vs dc lol.

His second fatality is better, he possesses his opponent and makes them tear their own head off.

awesome. :P

does cyrax and sector have alt costumes? They should totally have human versions of them...

I never thought I would say this but man, those babalities are better then most of the actual fatalities. The shang tsung one was the best so far, kitanas was also pretty good. Really want to see mileena.

"...Intriguing."

lolwut? xD

Can you turn X-Rays off? While cool looking and fun for goofy play, they can be a bit cheesy to take instantly off 40% damage with a single button mash.

I was actually mocking the in-game dialogue. X-Rays are basically Super moves, just like in Street Fighter, so I'm pretty sure you can't turn them off since the bar is also used for EX Moves and Combo Breakers.

Apparently you can turn them off, but not as an option; but as a modifier. Through kombat kodes, and the likes.

But no confirmation..yet.

The problem is, super moves in Street Fighter require a lot more skill to pull off and lot more skill to land than X-Rays. Also they don't take off 40% of your opponent's health.

Scorpion's move is fire and forget.

While that is true, you also have to remember that in high-level competition, using Combo Breakers to save your skin and EX Moves to extend combos are going to be worth more than trying to land an X-Ray.

Yep; also X-Rays can also be easily avoided by either blocking, moving away or the ones that are initiated as counters; by just doing nothing.

Actually, no. Most SF4 supers do 35-40~% naked. It's also worth noting that X-rays are tied to the same meter you use for breakers and if you attempt to combo into an X-ray, it can be broken.

Those babalities are great. I like the Cyrax and Kano ones so far. Funny with a nice variety, you can tell they had some fun with those. Don't like that clown thing from Shang though, hopefully he's got his soul suck fatality from MKII hidden somewhere.

I'm really tempted to watch the fatality videos and the steam that's up right now, but I think I'll wait. However, I have to say I'm happy with the inclusion and variety of the babalities. Haha.

Oh man, stream chat too funny. Dude is messing around in Krypt trying to get another fatality and finally he gets Jade. Stream monster goes, "THERE YOU GO, GOOTECKS!"

Speaking of the Krypt, has it been confirmed if the Klassic outfits are unlockable through it?

After watching through Gametrailers Fatality Friday collections, its a real shame that after MK3, all fatalities are just about ripping a part of the polygon model off and/or exploding the whole character.

in MK1-3 there were those awesome burning deaths that turned people into skeletons and acid melted them and everything.

MK4-8 were all really boring variations of just blocky polygons being torn apart.

I was really suprised to see atleast 2 fatalities here that involved ripping the skin off, just leaving a bloody skinned carcass. Bring on more of this variation!

Smoke's alt costume is boss. Much better then his Walken costume.

Yeah I really like his alt, although I actually like his main now as well. That select screen picture really didn't do the design any justice. lol.

Scorpion's alt is really good as well. Not sure if Noob's was a palette swap or something, but it looked good.

Agreed. That's why I'm hoping we get stuff like Reptile's acid bath, Shang's Soul Suck, Sektor's Flamethrower, Scorpion's Toasty, etc. More variety instead of just ripping limbs off. I guess that's why I like Smoke's fatality in this.
