The open button on my GC is sticking unless I press squarely down on it. Anything I can do to fix it?
Open it up and give it a good cleaning.
Clean it. That's it really. You can also lube it, but you have to be careful since it can stain the plastic.
My gamecube's internal clock has been constantly resetting for a while, so I decided to try and fix it. Rather than buying a set of replacement batteries with the pre-installed tabs on them, I just bought a generic battery holder and was able to install it fairly easily. The only problem I had were that the tabs on the battery holder were slightly too far apart and they were also much smaller than the holes I needed to install them into. A little bit of creative bending and a lot of solder fixed the issue and now the clock works great!

Did you see what it was that was in there? Or did you blow it into the system, potentially creating another problem? Regardless you should probably thoroughly clean your system.

The only thing that I could imagine it be is dust, either environmental dust or dust from the friction of the button being used for years. Nothing has ever been spilled on my GameCube and I've kept it in an enclosed cabinet for years in a nonsmoking household.
Would I need any special tools if I did want to open it up?

You would need a gamebit driver (4.5 mm) to open it. Also works if you ever need to open SNES consoles, N64 consoles, Genesis games, Master System games, or Game Gear games.

Don't know if they're still available, but Amazon had Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for $20 earlier this morning. Like New condition, so hopefully it arrives in decent shape.
The Dreamcast battery is much easier to replace with a battery holder because the type it needs perfectly fits where the old battery was. I've seen a few youtube videos that show how to replace it, but never any for the gamecube.

It kinda works. That kind of plastic is super brittle when you try to use it as a screwdriver bit, so expect a lot of frustration if you're doing it this way.
GameBit bits are pretty cheap on ebay; seriously way preferred.

This. Black ones I got not only wore out fast, but they didn't fit right to start with. The steel ones I got after I can pretty much not even use a handle with them with how well they fit the screws.

Bought Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games and Worms 3D. Combined with what I already had, I can finally say I started the collection.

Hah, I always planned to get that SpongeBob game back in the day, but never got around to it. I think it became pretty rare in the NTSC region, but I suspect that this has now passed.

Thanks for the suggestion, I always wanted to play a burnout game. Also I saw Battle for Bikini Bottom game go for like 11-22 dollar range on eBay, but a bit higher on Amazon. Im gonna try to find a copy on Amazon for a good price.

You could buy them from club nintendo there were 3 available i remember one was an animal forest one i think it was tom nook, the osecond one i can't remember off the top of my head and the third one was the mario kart double dash lid that they had the same design appears in one of the battle levels on that giant gamecube.

Backward Compatible Wii is "Good Enough" for most unless you want the Gameboy Player and/or LAN play.

I want to play the Gamecube version of Twilight princess, Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask in the best fidelity possible. I don't want a Wii or a Wii U. Component cables are super expensive...

Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time 3D are by far the definitive versions.
As for Twilight princess, get a Wii and you can play the GC version via component in native widescreen. You can buy a Wii for £20 now for christsakes

I want them but I don't know how the hell I'm ever going to justify paying $300CDN for them... I really wanted to get the Gameboy player too.
You can use the Wii exclusively as a GameCube if you really want. The most you'll use a Wii Remote for is to aim it at the screen to select the Disc Channel. After you select it, it automatically turns into a GameCube.
So with that in mind it's either:
-Wii w/Component Cables and GameCube controller: About $60
-GameCube w/Component Cables: About $250

The GameCube outputs at 480i through S-Video and Composite, right? So there shouldn't be input lag with an HDTV?

GC will lag some on just about any HDTV/monitor setup, since it has to scale and convert the image, and likely deinterlace it unless you are using a component cable and progressive scan. And that's before a TV's own image processing which itself could add lag, but depending on the TV you may be able to disable that.
With a Wii you can get a specialized setup that won't lag, but it will require a good HDMI adapter and one of a few specific monitors.

Yeah, i don't care for the system. Really despise the sensor bar and the Wii Remote, even if it's just to navigate the menus. It's far more rational to just buy a Wii, I can admit. I just wouldn't enjoy myself. To each their own.
Yeah, you're completley right. The way the component cables are pricing it would probably cost even more than that. Hmmph, i really hope we'd get an HD Twilight Princess some day, gamecube version of course.

I still wish that Nintendo would've at least made the GameCube version in widescreen. Or have the Wii version compatible with GameCube controllers. Resident Evil 4 did it!
You don't even need a Wii sensor bar to navigate the menus. You can use a classic controller.
Or boot directly into the GC mode via homebrew.
Anyhow if you really did not buy a Wii or Wii U for those reasons then youve missed out on a shitload of incredible games. I don't even have my sensor bar plugged in or know where it is!

It is for all intents and purposes a flat GameCube with the ability to play a lot more awesome games on top. Like Rich said, if pointing at a thing on screen to launch a game is so bad, just do it with the Classic Controller.
It depends. The newer ones are cheaper and fine if you want to play imports and just mess around a bit, but if you want to unlock things like F Zero AX, you need the old one.
