The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

I felt great unhooking my Wii U's sensor bar and Ethernet adapter. That adapter was the first thing I plugged into the Switch dock. Sucks the dock didn't just have one inside it, but I've been using this adapter for years now. It's graduated to a system worth having it for.

What a great investment that was. I'm using a third party one, but looks virtually the same and costed only like 6-7 euros. Has been using it for three generations, Wii, Wii U and now with the Switch.

If you are very into the Switch, then this article enforces your belief through anecdotal encounters with his colleagues and close friends.

Those of us that know how Polygon operates, still remember the Mario Kart pie charts, and can read the article with clear eyes might disagree with the assertion of the article.

It's written a bit ridiculous.

This statement is bullshit. Nobody bought the switch without Zelda and no one is buying it now without Mario Kart being released.

At the end of the day this system is release successful and has a good road ahead of it if Nintendo puts in the momentum.

sums up the thread.

Wth are you even talking about!? Have you read the article? Have you even read the OP?
The article isn't about the success of the Switch launch. It's about the positive experience people are having with the device. Maybe don't just read the thread title next time. But gotta go fast with downplaying of a positive Nintendo article.

It's ninjablade.

Reservation and skepticism is "edgy?"

I own a Switchi and enjoy it, but I've yet to build it an altar and drip-feed it lambsblood.
No comments like this are edgy.

"build it an altar and drip-feed it lambsblood."

I wasn't commenting about the rational people with reservations. Just the ones attacking the conversation instead of participating in it and sharing their own experience.

Reading through the thread we seem to have a lot of people sharing their experiences good or bad... But then we have those who seemingly haven't ever touched a Switch shit posting because as far as they are concerned positive stories about a company they don't have faith in must be advertising instead of people's genuine experiences.

Yup. Anecdotally speaking the switch does all of this and more.

If i want super powerful graphics-heavy games i'll do PC - but rarely do I care about that.

I honestly just want as many games on this thing as humanly possible. I'll take the convenience over power any day of the week.

The real unfortunate problem is that you won't get lots of the games - especially those that are typically slated for PC/XB/PS. If they could get those, the machine could go stratospheric.

Another thing that's a real shame is the fact they are going with a paid online situation. It just adds to the cost of a machine and a LOT of people, especially of Nintendo market (younger children and families) won't bother I would suspect.

I was very dubious of the Joy-cons when the Switch was announced. They looked too small and fiddly to use as individual controllers, and due to all the use cases for them, compromised as comfortable things to hold when the Switch was in handheld mode.

At launch, my concerns seemed to have been true. I didn't find the Switch as a handheld comfortable, and doubted I would ever use individual Joy-cons. I played the Switch in docked mode with Pro controller the vast majority of time, and away from the TV, in tabletop mode with the Pro.

My two kids loved it as both a console and handheld, but would always use the Pro when playing on TV.

Then we got MK8D and the Joy-cons have come into their own. Playing three player racers with my two boys with one Pro, two Joy-cons, is lovely. Props to Nintendo for knowing their audience so well. The auto-acceleration is a perfect additional to help Joy-con players. The little controllers might be small, but at no point have they impacted our fun or ability in MK8.

Tabletop MK8 with the Joy-cons is wonderful. I spent an hour playing with my eldest son at the weekend, sat at our kitchen breakfast bar. It's magical stuff and it really feels like three devices in one.

I'd wager that the Switch doesn't get anywhere near 100 million, but I dunno, crazier shit has happened, so who knows?
Any honest to god amazing system with worthwhile innovative features and full 1st party (Nintendo no less) support achieving good sales. Crazy.

Not.

Loving my switch, it sure is makes my 45 min. cardio sessions fly by. Using thd 24hr fitness wifi to play mk8dx online.

Late to the thread but man I love Switch.

I go to the library to study and spend hours on MK with my friend using merely the controllers which came with the system.

Go home, dock it and play on the full screen with my housemates. It is so snappy during my 15 minute study breaks I can very short sessions.

Amazing console, wonderfully executed and it just works. Being able to do this is a marvel in itself.

All I know is my family and I are constantly fighting over who gets to play since we got it. And as long as someone is home, it's being played.

Kinda reminds me of when console hardware started to catch up to the arcades. The experience was good enough even if it wasn't as powerful. With the Switch, we're at that point with portables. BotW seems as ambitious as Witcher 3 and it's a portable game.

What if your speed was dependent on how fast you pedaled

I do notice that when I play games that require attention and fast reflexes while on the cardio machines that I go faster on the machine, so technically one might accidentally get that sense when they're playing

I finally got to try out MK8DX in portable mode, thanks to my brother. He brought his Switch over for our recent hangout.

Honestly, once you get that experience, it's pretty easy to love the Switch. It feels perfect to play, especially when the game is one that is fine-tuned to the system's strengths.

Well, with the Nintendo Wii U leaving the impact (or, rather, lack of) it had and how that turkey performed, you can only go up from there.

But I think Nintendo deserved the positive feedback & reception the Switch has made, so I hope they don't squander it and continue from there.

Based on enthusiastic early adopters who didnt even wait for the console to be fullt market tested and get a decently large library of games.

Again, all these posts just mean individuals like it. And im happy for them. But lets wait for a more collective opinion that isnt potentially jaded by a honeymoon phase on hardcore gaming community.
Yes it sold well, as would be expected from the successor to nintendo's portable and home console.

Expected my ass. I specifically remember you droning on about how unimpressive it was as a console particularly and how the hybrid factor wasn't enough to drum up interest, and that it also would fail as a traditional handheld.

Now months later when its flying off the shelf, cant stay in stock, and is moving software by the millions at record pace, here you are to tell us how "Totally expected" this success was, yet somehow simultaneously how said success is 'meaningless' as these sales records are merely the result of "individuals" and a "honeymoon period" that doesn't count.

FOH, few months ago you were all manner of dour about the console, its potential and more. Now you are here trying to convince us that this major success was all foretold and expected.

I think in this case the hardware and software are selling due to both being excellent while on other Nintendo hardware generations it's usually just the software...I think that's what they're getting at, in any case
Do you not own a 3DS charging dock? It makes sure my 3DS is always topped off and ready to go.

2ZqsAgTl.jpg
I had one for the OG 3DS. The 3DS XLs didn't have one in the box... I believe it was club Nintendo exclusive?

Yo, that power outage thing is literally a game changer
The power goes out on average once a week so it's super handy. Didn't even think about it until a day or so before launch and it works just as well as I'd hope.

I feel like no one talks about this, but Jackbox Party Pack 3 on the Switch is amazing. I bring it to parties frequently. Screw two player Mario Kart on a tiny screen. Eight player hilarious party fun.

Jackbox is great and making it portable is even better.

I want to try this but I'm afraid I'll start screaming obscenities in the middle of the gym if I play MK8D online.

After more than 10 years of hating on Nintendo and its fanboys (which I still consider to be between the most annoying), I have to say I'm loving it and I'm loving Zelda. I still think everyone should buy a PS4 first, but I can see the Switch doing at least as good as the PS4 in the gaming department. I WANT third party support though, it can be much more than the perfect indie machine it already is.

It's going to be an interesting summer. We're riding on the high of 2 amazing launch titles right now, but when the feelings of drought settle in there are going to be a ton of threads of the Switch having no games. That's probably how I will feel because Splatoon doesn't really speak to me. Thinking about double dipping on Disgaea 5 but I don't want to throw away the 204 hours I have in the PS4 version. I really hope that 3rd parties are actually on board this time, otherwise it will be like every other Nintendo system in memory for me - all I play when a new exclusive comes out, then on the shelf for a few months waiting on the next.

I don't think there would be much talk about droughts with ARMS and Splatoon releasing in June and July especially if e3 is good.

Switch just feels so good to play, and the portable multiplayer is more practical than I ever imagined. Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 are going to sell insanely well, and kids/families are going to eat that up

Had my first wireless Mario Kart multiplayer experience at work today. Lots of fun was had. I think this will be a weekly thing. Pretty sure a guy at work was convinced to get a Switch.

I don't really like my switch. I was never into portable handhelds. So that's not a selling point for me. I hated the joy cons the system came with. I was never a Zelda fan. I hated playing Zelda at first. That was my only game , so for the first month of the switch I never really played it much. I did buy a pro controller and than I started over again playing Zelda. Playing with the pro controller I did enjoy Zelda a lot more. Got Mario kart, I'm bored with that game already. I did have it on Wii u tho. For me personally there is no games coming out that Interest me till Mario. Arms don't look that good to me, splatoon looks somewhat interesting. I'm glad everyone is enjoying their switch though. The more systems that sells is good for the industry.

Yeah, I’m liking it so far. It’s a solid system. I’m mainly just playing MK8D at the moment and I need to get back into BotW. I can't wait for some more games to come out. A deluxe Smash better be in the works.

Both my older sisters, who don’t play games much, ended up buying Switches. They love the thing.

I'm curious, did you buy into hype or what? The system seems like it wasn't your cup of tea at the moment with it's current line up and functionality.
