The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

Still waiting patiently for blue joycons to show up in stores so I can exchange my bad one. Hopefully with MK8 out now shipments will pick up.

If/when they introduce GC VC, they need to make joycon with the GC controller layout and analogue triggers. Could be useful for Smash too.

I honestly hope this is one of the reasons they have detachable controllers. They could do so many interesting things with that shit. Remember certain games used to come with custom controllers? Guitar Hero, Donkey Konga, Beatmania, Time Crisis, etc. I would love to see some custom joycon shit happen to mix up the controls. Those games are always da besssst

BOTW disappointing for me and the overall library so far doesn't get me very excited. Despite that I can already tell I'll love the device. It just feels so well made and I love the idea of playing it on the TV and taking it out whenever I want. I also love that nintendos franchises are finally all back on one console which I think will allow them to be a bit more creative and bring back more old franchises (due to not doubling up on the same franchise so much).

This feels weird to say so soon after release but I'm also super excited for the follow up. This was a pretty good first try at a hybrid and I think the follow up to this will be amazing.

It's fun. Two player is a lot of fun, I've yet to try four, but it's all about fun. This is something that's important to me when I play games, and my friends. It's about the fun, not the technical.

That's what I'm saying though, it's not fun for me. It's uncomfortable holding a tiny unwieldy controller squinting at half of a mobile screen. I'd rather literally sit and talk, or find another way to play a multiplayer game.

I'm not discounting those who enjoy it, but I think the amount of those players are much smaller than GAF realises, and it's hardly a system selling feature.

I'm in the want to love camp. I don't really like Zelda very much, am enjoying Isaac but have played a hundred hours of it on other platforms, and am warm on the puyo puyo demo but it isn't a system seller. Mario Kart is cool but I'm not a college student living in a dorm anymore. That being said I am having a hard time actually turning on all the amazing PS4 games I'm in various stages of completion in because I wish I was playing them in handheld switch mode.

I pretty much want it to become Vita2.0 with better support.

Besides the gym stuff loving using my switch at bars. No issues sharing a Verizon Wifi puck between two switches.
I've been trying to play Mario Kart on my commute via my phone's WiFi hotspot. But every time I want to go into a lobby I get an error saying unable to connect to the other user's console. Anyone else have this?

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

it didn't really win the generation, because it didn't have the real games. Wii was just grandmas who bought no games and it was collecting dust and forgotten 11 seconds after launch.

Oh yeah, that's why the system had a 9 games per console Tie Ratio, eh?

A quick reminder, there were also a few "real" games on the system, these here scored between 80% and 97% over at gamerankings(among 40 others):

It's not 'one of the reasons' - the controllers are detachable because it is a hybrid device, no other reason.

It is however an obvious possible side benefit.

Test your internet connection and check the NAT Type. Anything below C is unplayable.

It's still in the honeymoon period, but let's see if the love last between E3 to Christmas.
A lot is riding on how E3 goes for Nintendo, namely AAA third party support. Otherwise it won't be any better than GCN me thinks, and that's not good.

With the president publically calling for major 3rd party games to come out asap and their conservative sales forecast, this is the reason for my statement above.

nah I'm gonna play pretend in my head that it came up in one of the meetings as a 'Pro' in their pro and cons list of if they should do this wacky shit. aww yeah. more fun that way!
but seriously this shit would be dooooooooope!

Yeah this is all about the games. I'm gonna get a Switch no matter what, but the popular support for the console won't last if E3 is just a bunch of showing already announced games, maybe one surprise, and no third party support. They need to prove this isn't a Wii U repeat.

But if they do, hoo boy. I've been yearning for something like this for ages. Let's go NIntendo do it big.

Yeah the general public are all closely following what happens at E3. Even though the console will almost certainly have outsold the Wii U by the end of its first year, and it is flying off shelves because of Mario Kart and Zelda, and will be the only viable platform in Japan, it all hangs on EA/Activision announcing Assassins Duty for it.

I doubt the general public even cares about E3 lol.

I don't know why people think E3 is relevant to the mainstream audience. There's a reason why E3 has opened it to the public because they have been becoming increasingly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Edit: I didn't interpret your post correctly lol. I agree though.

That shit filters down. Mainstream public doesn't pay explicit attention to E3, but the reverberations of it are definitely felt. The Wii U's continuous shit tier E3s hurt any sort of future outlook the console had. Even if it's not immediate, a shitty E3 would hurt the Switch. Nintendo can't do everything on their own. I don't particularly give a shit about mainstream 3rd party titles, but the casual audience certainly does.

Nintendo put the ball in the 3rd parties' court with the 3DS's launch, and the 3rd parties failed them spectacularly. I'm just worried something similar will happen here. I know it's succeeding now, but I want the Switch to continue being a success.

Man oh man I hope this is sarcasm because wow, it's like I'm in 2010 all over again.

There is something about the SNES that just looks good. I recall there was a DS, 3DS (or something) that had a SNES inspired design too, and that looked fire as well.

SNES was not my first console, and Nintendo 64 is my favorite Ninty console, but SNES just has a great timeless retro look. There is something really nice about the color scheme, where NES and N64 and Gamecube doesn't hold up.

But we need a bigger Switch. An XL switch with a bezel-less display. the bezels are massive and the joycons controllers are uncomfortable small. Particularly using one with two hands. Stuff in a bigger battery and increase the footprint of the entire device by 10-15%. Then you're set.

no real games, eh?

I'm trying to remember any time before Wii when a Nintendo console had two 3D Mario games, a 2D Mario game, two Zelda games, two Metroid games
and a third if you count Other M
, a 30-million-seller Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Donkey Kong Country, an exclusive Nintendo-developed non-Fire Emblem RPG, and, oh yeah, access to titles from every past Nintendo console.

I'm also trying to remember a time when Nintendo had a console that sold more units in a single year than its predecessor did during its entire lifespan - that was its second full year on the market, by the way, not "11 seconds after launch."

Sigh...you guys don't know D.Lo? The post was obvious sarcasm. Not too long ago someone outright said nobody cared about the Wii after its first year.

Maybe. I'm not sure it'll be necessary for most games. I can see them mapping something like (light press/full press) to the separate L/ZL buttons for something like Mario Sunshine (Z can be moved to minus)

They have Mario 64 true successor coming and presumably an AAA Metroid game coming. People are going to go wild for Switch after E3.

You know what I really want? A Wiimote grip so the right joycon is more comfortable to hold.

Also, I want to be able to turn the system on and off with the controller.

If a new Metroid title is coming, I doubt it's going to be released this year. I'd peg that for next year's conference, if I'm a betting man.

Why? Assuming Retro is developing it they have had 4 years of design/development time. Should be ready for this Fall or Spring 2018 at the latest.

This year is already stacked as it is, there's no need for Metroid to pad out the release schedule. Best to keep it for next year when they need either a big holiday title or a schedule filler for the spring.

Generally E3 is for this year's games, meaning we'll be hearing about a Spring 2018 Metroid in January of next year.

Also, no reason to assume Retro is developing a Metroid title.

This is really easy.

Press home when the system is sleeping and it wakes up.

Hold home to get to the quick menu and put it back to sleep there, or go home and put it to sleep there.

They hired a composer known for his SCI fi soundtracks and posted pictures of prime rib on their twitter page.

Reggie also brought up Metroid and said ask me about it by the end of the year.

I want to believe. Metroid is literally the one thing that I count as a true "killer app" for the Switch as it is. I'm waiting for a "mini" version, but if Metroid comes out before then (let alone one by Retro and composed by Alexander Brandon), then I'd have to bite the bullet, though I might sell the console and go back to waiting for a revision once I've finished it.

Naw if we look at sales its definitely would not be a killer app. Dk sells more than Metroid.

Metroid just has a vocal fanbase.

Edit: unless you are talking about yourself.

I think people underestimate how well the Switch will sell (hardware numbers) over it's lifetime. Eventually Nintendo will bring down the price and there will be lots of cool limited edition versions leading to people with 2 to 3 Switches. I could see it eventually passing the Wii based off that alone.

What a shame if that's the case. Retro gave us three great Metroid games already, I want to see them tackle a different IP, perhaps something new altogether.
