The Nostalgia Critic |OT| He Remembers It So You Don't Have To

The Timothy Green episode was great. I haven't watched the Twilight one.

But honestly, I'm getting a bit tired of Twilight. It's been covered already by what feels like EVERYONE. Just let it go. The NC is the last person I'd want to say his piece on the franchise at this point, even though I realize he's not relegated to nostalgia anymore.
 
I see this is the Critic going for more analytical style videos than usual. Yes he did have "Old vs. New" and his Top 11s, but stuff like this can help him from burning out like last time.

As for Twilight being a dead horse... yeah it kind of is. Unless those rumors about a TV show or reboot are true.
Also, Twilight's effect on culture is pretty prominent even though it's done. Warm Bodies anyone?
 
Why isn't he doing old movies now?

I enjoyed the Timothy Green review and it was a good return to form, but it's pretty weird to me that he's coming back to Nostalgia Critic with non-nostalgic movies. Has he said anything about him expanding the NC format to any movie he wants to review instead of just 80s/90s movies?

I think it's another method of avoiding burn out. By limiting himself to the 80's and 90's, he ran out of material much quicker.
Granted, there's still plenty of crap from the 80's and 90's he could look at. But with the removal of the cut-off date, there's now a lot of new crap he could talk about as well.

On his Dreamworks marathon: I never saw Shark Tale, I saw the commercials and thought it looked terrible. I now know the true extent of its horror.

After Dreamworks-uary, what else is there?

As for after Dreamworksuary, maybe DonBluthril.
 
I am actually enjoying his DWuary.

I agree on Shark Tale being the worst DW film, though I still don't think Madagascar is all that great (3rd is the only good film... but I guess the first is okay compared to the second).
 
My problem with Doug's stuff that's not NC, and I have this problem with a lot of the more amateur reviewers on TGWTG actually (MarzGirl is particularly prone to it), is that he always spends an inordinate amount of time disclaiming the subjectivity of his opinion. 2 minutes into half of his non-NC videos and you've still only heard that It's Perfectly OK To Disagree With Me, Please Don't Hate Me If You Do.

The Disneycember and Dreamworksuary videos have been thankfully free of that, for the most part, but I assume that's because he's doing them so quickly that he doesn't even have time to think about that.
 
i like that NC is evolving.

this short episode was great and he really dissected the whole Twilight phenomenon.

and hes right,
in a few years, we will all look back on this and laugh. but, while a lot of kids will grow up like NC said, there are a lot of vulnerable women and girls that eat this shit up and believe it whole heartedly, and thats whats dangerous.

everything he said is true, im liking the new eps so far. it seems like hes putting more thought into his analysis.

While I admit Twilight analysis is old, he does definitely point out points that other people don't usually say, especially on that spoilered part.

I rarely see how reviewers say that the target audience are very susceptible to stuff like this and stuff. Usually it's a general review on the book/film.

Then again stuff like Twilight existed even before Twilight's boom and hasn't done much damage to women... or has it?
 
Changing the episodes to bi-weekly looks like it was definitely the right decision. These last two have been a lot more elaborate and than his old stuff.
 
in any case it just means we shouldn't let Michael Bay do historical movies.

Imagine if he did Abraham Lincoln's biopic
 
Why do I think he explained fantastically how Michael Bay work as a director? He's right! He PORNS IT! Seriously, I LOLed a lot at the end...at everything "PORN IT!" :lol

Looking through the comments on the Timothy Green and Pearl Harbor videos, it looks like a lot of people are unconvinced of the effectiveness of Nostalgia Critic 2.0's format and cast.

I actually find the new approach very refreshing and I enjoy all of the actors, including the ones from Demo Reel. Doug definitely found a way to breath new life into NC reviews, but I guess not everyone is on board with the changes as much as I am. To me, the use of skits lengthens the reviews beyond what they necessarily have to be, but considering that the Critic is now doing reviews on bi-weekly schedule, I feel that the extra time dedicated to that "fluff" (if you want to call it that) is worthwhile. Now I basically put the NC in line with the weekly comedy shows that I watch.

It's a nice progression overall.
 
He just needs to lose the intro really.

Also I'm glad unlike GAF he actually acknowledges Antz and its uniqueness over borefest that is A Bug's Life.

I was apprehensive at the first video, but I really liked the Pearl Harbor review, and it's probably the best thing he's done in a long time. The skits were also well implemented, and it lead to a feeling of completeness in the overall product.

All in all, glad he's back.
 
I enjoy the personalities involved.

Honestly, in my opinion the opening isn't bad either, but the theme song could use some work.
 
Wow, Doug managed to see a good in Bee Movie.

Honestly I can't forgive Bee Movie for perpetuating that it "can't fly" and I never understood Seinfield humor.
 
Next up, Kung Fu Panda. And whaddaya know, he likes it. It's a given with it being one of the great DW films and all, but hey. You may find some little slips here and there in the review about some details, but it's still good. I wonder what he would think of the 2nd one...

If you wait until after the video's played, the next one cued up is his look at Madagascar 2, which he gives a fair shake (I haven't seen it yet, though).

I thought it was a given that he liked it because of his Bum review.
 
I'm more interested in his take on Monsters vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda 2, MegaMind, and Madagascar 3, essentially my favorite CGI DW films. He already did How to Train Your Dragon and Rise of the Guardians.

Also I'm glad he saw what I saw in Antz. People here bash it for some odd reason thinking it's A Bug's Life clone.
 
Figured I'd throw my $0.02 about the new style. I like it a lot. It's great seeing something different, and I think he's finally found a way to merge both the Nostalgia Critic and Demo Reel into one fantastic project.

The reviews are longer, and definitely are able to hold my attention better than the old ones. Theme song is great, too.

Amazing work. I hope he doesn't bail.
