The Official DEVIL MAY CRY 3 Thread.

Is it some goth song? If so get ready to hear it through the majority of the game.

well i'm not against it, i like the song, but its froms somethings else i swear. I've heard another version of the song too that sounded nothing like the one in the review. hmmm anyways i guess i have to wait till next week to get the game on the cheap.

Still though this game looks to rock, i love hard games.

Lyrics for 2 of the songs you will hear throughout most of the game:

Lesser Demons Fight Soundtrack: "Taste the Blood"

The flames in your eyes calls your bluff
Feel free to drown when you’ve had enough
Useless cause is breaking your back
Your life will end when you attack

Make your move, make your stand
Make the win, like you can
See the war, see me rule
See the mirror, you’ll see a fool

To take me out you must fight like a man
(To take me out you must fight like a man!)

You’ve failed to prove that you can
(You need to prove it that you can!)

See you mighty compares to something
(See you mighty compares to something!)

There is, something is nothing
(There is, something is nothing)

Time to figure, time to sin
You’re times done when you begin
Live for suffer, live for revenge
Now your life comes to an end
Taste the blood, taste your fate
Swallow your pride, with your hate
The last breath, your last dance
The last will fall with your command

Tasting the blood with your crying pleas
swim in your sorrow breathe your fear
Clear the mind of righteousness suffered
Witness the moment of failures prosper

and the more popular:

"The Devils Cry"
-----------------------------------
I'll steal a soul for a second chance
But you will die come what may
Your soul makes me stronger
In a life that craves the hunger
Fade away in a quest for life
Until the end, don't judge me nice

Step in for the cure for soul's demise
Reap the tears of the victim's cries
You'll need more to kill the suffer of a
Brother demon that’s a pulling it under
Kill before the time, kill them all
Blast out the righteous law
Serving justice that dwells in me.
Nothing comes as far as the eye can see
The eye can see
The eye can see
The eye can see

We are falling
the night is calling
tears inside me
calm me now

Bless me wisdom
live for eternity
all it, I see
the freedom reign

We are falling (I'm gonna take him to end the madness)
the night is calling (I'm gonna take him to end the sadness)
she is somebody (The blades of wrath The truth of meaning)
showing me signs (inside me my fathers blood is bleeding)

Midnight is haunting (I just traded for all to feel)
wait softly, slowly (with this he cries the victory squeals)
show me wisdom (the goal before are you still satisfied)
show me please (we've slain, the victim pacified)

Bless me wisdom (Your soul makes me stronger)
live for eternity (In a life that craves the hunger)
all it, I see (Fade away in a quest for life)
the freedom reign (Until the end, don't judge me nice)

Praised to my father (what’s destiny, you must follow)
Blessed by the water (if you want to live to tomorrow)
Black night, dark sky (I'll steal a soul for a second chance)
The Devils cry! (But you will die come what may...)

Is the easy difficulty setting in the U.S equivalent to the normal dificulty setting of the Japanese version of DMC 3?

That seems to be the case. But whether easy in the US version has the continue system from the Japanese version or not has not been made clear yet. I'm getting the JP version, so I don't care,

All reviews seem to compalin about the fact that the game is so hard, that you have to go back to previous missions ot get more red orbs to spend on items. But, how is this a bad thing? For the first time in the series you have some pretty substantial opportunity to actually get as many items and abilities as you want, instead of simply having to choose the most important ones and pay the consequences for your discretion later.

As far as the difficulty goes, it's not that bad. True, it's a hard game, but it's entirely manageable as you progress through the game. Talking like you'll never get past the first level is pretty misleading, in my opinion.

Just finished making the calls, nobody in my area has it yet. GameStop expects to have it on Wednesday, BB and CC said Thursday or Friday, and Wal-Mart... well, I didn't bother calling Wal-Mart, they get their new games a week after release.

So it looks like Sunday is my magic day. I've waited this long, I can wait another few days.

OPM Magazine Reviewed DMC3:

9/10

PRO's: Great graphics, cutscenes, story and varied gameplay.

CON's: Difficulty may detract novice gamers.

Giancarlo V.

Kind of sucks how DMC3 is getting docked down for difficulty, when us hardcore fans should be adoring that.

the last game that got bagged on this much for its difficulty was Gradius V, which also happened to be one of my favorite games from last year.

Same thing happen to Ninja Gaiden and Maximo. In my opinion, too hard is better than too easy. Devil May Cry 3 better be freaking hard, cause I remember how damn easy Devil May Cry 2 was...I still don't know what that Game Over screen looks like. :lol

Well I'll be going on down to Gamestop and picking up my copy this afternoon. I can't wait. For some reason I've been playing Chaos Legion over the past few days to prepare myself...don't even ask.

Picked it up earlier today, and holy shit this thing is hard.

I almost died on level 1 because I slipped up on one move, and the mid-boss on level 3 is kicking my ass. Thats right, level 3.

i might just take the advice of the reviews, gut up, and stat over in easy mode after dying a few more times.

@^#$^$^^#@**@*@

Stupid Gamefly. They got me on short wait for DMC3...! Damn I've had the game logged in my gameQ for a couple weeks too. Damn them....now I may be forced to buy it.

Yeah, god forbid supporting the only two AAA action games that are actually a challenge (DMC and NG).

God of War--well, that's not getting a sequal as David Jaffe said he wouldn't direct it.

So yeah, bad sales of DMC3 (Tecmo notices, they make an easy NG2) NG2 doesn't sell well, and we are left with movie and comic book action games.

Think about it.

The game is gold you and you know it. The game has a great ranking average at gamestats (88%) and THE ONLY CON is that it's a difficult game.

That's the only CON. Not too shabby especially for hardcore gamers like us.

Picked it up today and while it is most definately tough, I am enjoying the challenge. I can not see how anyone who plays games frequently at all would have taken two days to beat the mini boss on Mission 2. He was the first guy to actually kill me but you just need to dodge his attacks. And while there is not a block button, you can dodge attacks and most of the enemies so far seem to be pretty good about giving you some kind of indication they are going to attack.

Of course, I just died again in the first Red Door room, so maybe I should go to Easy as well.. but I think I will get my moneys worth if I keep it at the normal difficulty level.

OH, and BTW, I am going gunslinger style as well, so I'd imagine with Trickster as my main style I would be having a slightly easier time.

Good times though.. glad I picked it up. The cutscenes are also very stylish and well done. Dante's over the top humour and such is back and I can't believe how much DMC2 lacked because of that charm. It is evident almost as soon as he opens his mouth. Its cheesy and over the top, but it works so well within the style of this game.

Now to attempt to beat this before God of War.

Yeah, wish more people would choose Royal Guard.

ONE HIT KILLS PEOPLES!!!

Just defend and immediatly perform a release.

Just defend means black at the last milli-second before the attack hits you. And then release it immeidatly R1+Foward+O for a one-hit kill.

Can someone confirm whether playing on easy gives you infinite continues, and doesn't force you to restart the level, like in the Japanese version?

Yeah I just made it to the Mission 3 boss and he owned me pretty quickly. Would be nice to start out right before the battle, but as it is my skills are getting better because I've had to replay the earlier sections so many times now.

:: Shrugs :: It could have been easier, and maybe if the levels get to be way long I'll get pissed, but for right now I think that while it would have been nice, its not a deal breaker.

Don't forget to bank all your orbs and style xp with manual pause often. Nothing like being forced to replay a level, but ALSO losing out on all the loot you earned the previous run. Really makes the system a little easier to deal with as you keep powering up and upgrading with each attempt.

Bank my xp? Manual pause? I know I can pause and save the game that way, but your progess is not kept.. am I missing something? I would most definately like to keep all this XP I am building up through these playthroughs.

EDIT - Nevermind, I just realized that manualy saving is what you meant. You get to keep all the XP you have worked up and any upgrades as well. Much nicer! Thanks for the tip!

That level 3 boss is still getting to me, even on Easy. I must be missing some strategy with him.

It gets really hard when he turns red and starts thowing everything at you at once. it seems like the guns are the only viable way to damage him then.

Shoot at his heads until the ice breaks, then slash them up. Try to concentrate on one of them at a time.
Avoid his attacks every once in a while, too. :P

I was wondering if attacking each head individually would destroy them in succession. Is that what I am understanding?? That would make it easier to just worry about one attack later on in the battle.

Can you answer my question and tell me if you have unlimited continues and do not have to restart a whole level when you die at a boss fight when you play on easy? (assuming you're playing the NA version)

I had to turn it off to go to dinner, so I dont know yet.... I'll find out later tonight (if i go back to the easy mode)

Hmm... I find the inconsistency between ratings on various websites a bit jarring. Makes you wonder if 1Up were the only ones to give it a valid score.

IGN: 9.6
GameSpot: 8.6
1Up: 7.0

And if you wanna include a fansite for perspective...

Got-Next.com: 4 out of 5

*shrug*

In easy mode, you must restart the entire level if you die... that is, unless you have a yellow orb. If you are familiar with DMC1, a yellow orb lets you continue at the exact spot Dante died. You can purchase these yellow orbs inbetween levels or at the "level up dude" that is in some areas. You can hold a maximum of 99 yellow orbs. This, coupled with the fact that you can save your red-orb count at any time, makes it seem to me the whole "OMG I can't continue before a boss" issue not as bad as it sounds. Yes, it is easier in the Japanese version, but at least we can buy teh orbs! Save your yellow orbs for when you really need them, if you run out play the game and earn some more red orbs to buy more yellow orbs, and you're set.

The only thing is that the amount of red orbs a yellow orb costs goes up each time you buy one. My first yellow orb was 1000, the next one I buy will be 1500. Don't know if this caps at any time, since I've only bought one.

Yellow orbs are so yummy! :)

Ugly little guy, though.

The game is great fun so far... I'm at the 3rd level boss.

Okay kids, today's secret word is... yellow orb.
Whenever you hear today's secret word, scream real loud!

You can buy them in the Japanese version too. They start at 10,000

the scores are inconsistent so that means that the lowest one must be "valid"? Oh, and you forgot that Gamerankings is 88%.

You should have just come out and say what you really want to write. It's ok, the "*shrug*" isn't fooling anyway.

Wow, Yellow orbs start at 10k in JPN version?

In US they start at 1000 and reach a ceiling at 3000. That is normal difficulty, probably more expensive in hard+. It's really no big deal to buy a couple given how easy it is to shoot up a room of baddies for several thousand orbs.

WELL...in the JPN version the yellow orbs work a little different, I think. They revive you immediately, at the exact spot and moment you died. Or is it the same in the american version?

BTW, if you want to stock on red orbs(and eventually yellow orbs), you can do it on
the fifth secret mission(located on mission 9). You get around 1500 red orbs in 30 seconds.
You can replay secret missions as much as you want, unlike DMC1.

I love it so far. I'd still be playing if the batteries on my controller didn't wear out. I'd say it's about the same as Hard in DMC1 was, maybe a little harder than Normal in Ninja Gaiden.

segatavis says yellow orbs let you continue at the exact spot where Dante died... so it sounds like the Japanese version as well.

So let me see if I've got this straight - the Normal difficulty for the US version is the same as the Hard difficulty for the Japanese version, but in the US version, yellow orbs are dirt cheap?

The End said:
No no

in the japanese version, continues are free and unlimited

in the US version, they're fucking expensive.

So it sounds pretty much the same. Jpn has expensive lives, US has expensive continues.

At least for the item using people, but if you're like me and don't buy an item the entire game cause you spend all your orbs on moves....then the Jpn version is fine but the US version must be fucking hard.

the stars and whatnot start out pretty cheap, but every time you buy one they get more expensive, so you really have to just save them for boss fights.

Capcom is about to rock me so hard, so long, and so fast.

WTF, I want that cross......

As for the Level 3 boss
I beat him a while ago, and I went back to fool around with a better way to to do. Well I found one. If you stand on the left hand side of hte room behind the broken pillar, you can fire the guns at him and NEVER get hit. Just thought I would throw the option out there for people who got REALLY lazy.

right, and if you're using trickster, you can just shoot him with E&I and never get hit, but it takes a goddamn year to beat him that way.

Eh, I suppose if you were low on life and didn't want to do it over again, it would be an easy way to move on with the game.
