The Official DEVIL MAY CRY 3 Thread.

I just beat Hard mode.

I must say, I think I like this more than Ninja Gaiden.

Although Ninja Gaiden is leagues above DMC1. IMO, relax DMC fans, just my opinion.

With all the "leveling up" I was doing, collecting thousands of red orbs, I felt like putting this game into the action rpg category. But I have finished the game, had a lot of fun with it. I think I need to rest my thumbs for a few days, though.

I'm on the 9th Mission, and I'm loving it. Like everyone else, the only thing that I can complain about is the lack of checkpoints during the missions.

One of my favorite parts thus far...Going up an elevator, and all of the sudden, four enemies drop down, one on each side of me. I had the Shotgun, and was in Gunslinger mode...Pulled some fireworks, and blew them all off the elevator. It was wicked sweet.

I just saw the cut-scene where
Lady and Dante shoot all those demons back to back
. Awesome stuff.

Damn, this game just keeps getting better and better. That boss battle with Vergil was badass enough, but the cutscenes...

"OMGWTF" is all that can be said for Mission 8's opening cinema. :lol :lol :lol

Yeah I'm at the Mission 8 boss. Keep getting smacked around by the grunt monsters lurking about. My main problem is thinking I can sustain one more hit before healing, but oh well....

Is there anyway to keep the red "thing" from absorbing the orbs that are dropped? I could really use some of those green ones. :(

You can "kill" it and focus on the grunts while the core is exposed.

It's a small thing, but it means the world to me: Whomever on the design team made the choice to allow you to charge the guns while still using the sword and vice-versa deserves the love and affection only a sex goddess can provide. That is all.

I got DMC3 and thought I'd post my impressions: I have gotten to the 4 mission and the blue orbs really help! I admit that I am far from a good and gamer but even though it is definitely hard, it really measures just how good you are, and really makes you get better, like I have. Although I will admit if it were not for the ability to save up your red orbs I would've quit LONG ago. I am having alot of fun with it. BTW, even though I'm sure most people are still playing on Easy/Normal, has anyone tried dare I say, a harder difficulty? I thought I saw one like Extreme or something.

Oh, and this has probably been mentioned but did you know on the loading screen if you press the square button it'll make little slashs' where it says "now loading" and if you press the triangle button it has bullet holes. A very neat and subtle thing that shows just how much they put into this AWESOME game!

Any tips for these 2 door guardians on Mission 5? :(

attack them one at a time but don't kill them
get them both down to ~10% before you kill either one
try to kill the other within 10 seconds of when you kill the first

Cerberus(sp) for the door guardians. Lv. 2 Revolver recommended. Use Revolver when they're close for a few hits. They'll deflect your attack, which leaves Dante in the air. Very quickly unload E&I on your target until you reach the ground and start Revolver again. It's not as complicated as it sounds (you're basically just forcing yourself through their defenses), but you'll have to repeat it a few times before you knock the sword from your target's hands. Then, he'll kneel to the ground stunned and open to take off a good half his life bar. You'll want to work the two guardians down equally, though. You don't want one dead and the other at full health. Bad things happen...

I just got to this boss (on Normal) and they whooped on me. I figured out my problems early on though - you get this massive arsenal of attacks, yet you're stuck jumping around/dashing like an idiot with a shit camera evading. That and bosses take too many frickin hits to kill. I find myself getting killed carelessly because of impatience. I definitely feel that I'm getting better at it, but this really is god damn chore, and something that could have appealed to so many will be over looked because of what I think is the most uselessly high difficulty ever. I think it's a great game, but I know I won't argue when people bitch about it.

Game got better once I made it a point to buy at least one yellow orb each chapter. Only 3000 orbs and saves your ass since practically every boss will kill you the first time. That and making sure to bank your orbs by saving before dying or using items.

I was bitching about the camera early on, but it's actually really manageable when you stop trying to see things. All the big attacks have audio cues, and Dante's roll works everytime when timed off of those and not necessarilly what you are seeing on the screen.

I finished the game today, and I gotta say this is the most action packed game I have played this generation. Really crazy how much crap is going on it once...even Ninja Gaiden doesn't come close. Game is ALL about evading and countering. I'm actually surprised the game is designed like it is. Most people want to attack a lot when playing action games, and DMC3 just PUNISHES that type of play immediately. Kinda crazy

Gotta be the biggest combos I have ever seen possible in an action game too. You can really link some serious shit together and not only does it look good, it's actually the most effective way to play if you can. Awesome game

I just got my Japanese DMC3 today. Man, the graphics are an eyesore, and Dante is as annoying as fuck. Also, I was fighting the 2nd boss, and all I had to do is stay to the left side, and shoot at it, and the dumb thing was slashing at thin air, and only hit me once.

But on the other hand, the game is more fun than either of the previous DMC game. I'm really liking it so far, and getting the JP one will definitely save me a lot of frustration.

Anyone else notice that the chapters numbers pop up in most if not all of the little intros before the mission? The most obvious one that I can think of that is not a big spoiler is for Mission 3 when Lady guns her motorcycle and the flames from the exhaust cook those three bad guys in the shape of a three. I didn't see one for 8 or 9 though.. but 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 all for sure have one. Anyone else spot these?

I was just going to post the same thing about the chapter numbers, but thought someone else already mentioned it.

8 is on the Moon

I can't find number 20 :(

formed by the clouds in the background

Also, mission 9's is on
the bullet, not the moon

I have all of them listed on gamefaqs.com's codes section actually, but I'm not 100% sure on two of the missions (16 and 19)

Last night I got Trickster and Swordsman Level 3 - some crazy stuff you can do. I didn't experiment much with it though, as I went straight to leveling up with Gunslinger. Royal Guard is going to be tricky, as I SUCK at using it.

For those who passed it:

I just tried replaying level 18 for some style points - what were they thinking with that level?!? The giant chessboard, and then the boss collection? That's pretty damn difficult, if you think about it.

You only have to beat 3 of them, beating them all just nets you a blue orb

It does? A full one?

I didn't have a good reason to beat them all before, but I do now!

actually I think it's just a 1/4 orb, I havent been man enough to take them all on yet
I've got all the blue orbs pieces accounted for except for one doh! O_o

I'm on Mission 15 right now I think...That scene,
where Vergil pwns Beowulf...Awesome. The actual Beowulf Devil Arms are awesome too.

I'm surprised at how good the storyline in this game actually is. Devil May Cry 3 = :)

Yup, you were right, just a 1/4 orb.
Ow, my thumbs.

HOLY CRAP!! I just got Nevan and what a weapon it is. Imagine an electric guitar that actually emits electricity and bats to kick the shit out of the enemies. Goddamn. I'm a pretty big fan of metal (progressive and power) so to see an electric guitar used as a weapon in a game like DMC3 is just mindblowing. Probably THE most innovative weapon of action games this gen.

ALL metal fans and guitarists need to check this game out simply just to see Nevan in action....

The cutscene that follows after Dante receives Nevan was hilarious/great.

"WATCH OUT NOW!" :lol

Oh yeah, a little cheesey but still great. In fact, all the cutscenes are great. This game probably edges out MGS3 in that department. MGS3's scenes are definitely more polished but DMC3's are way more entertaining. Almost every single cutscene is fun to watch and it's a pity that the gallery doesn't have a feature where you can skip to any cutscene you want.

This game is fast becoming my favourite game of this generation. I'm not shitting you. And I own all 3 consoles and have played almost every single major release/hit this generation.

When do you actually get to stages and move? Like my brother and I did first two missions and all you gets is about 2 dozen of same looking mobs in about 20 yard radius. That its, really lame so far :(

Man, the camera in this game makes Ninja Gaiden's camera look like a marvel of design. And who's idea was it to have the same button for roll and jump?

That did cause me to lose some boss fights but I guess it just takes some getting used to.

Anyway, the game is fantastic and I am dismayed by the lack of love for it in GAF...

Reports of DMC3's difficulty has been greatly exagerrated. I didn't find it hard at all, however I did beat DMC in dante must die mode. :D Either way I still dont think it was as hard as those weaksauce reviewers indicated. Although getting some of the SS ranks in Dante must Die mode may prove to be problematic.

Japanese version isn't really that much eaiser, I think. Sure, you have unlimited continues, but if you use a green star during a boss battle and die, then you will have to replay the whole level.

Right now, I'm stuck on Mission 15...Those angel things in the beginning are pretty tough, but believe it or not, the part that gets me is those giant rotating blades on the floor and cieling on your way to get the second amulet piece or whatever...I can't get by them!

Are you fucking kidding me? Unlimited continues from just before a boss fight? And yellow orbs that resurrect you instantly? Those may not make the game easier. But they certainly make it a lot less frustrating. It's not playing through the level that's frustrating. The combat is entertaining as hell so that's not something I mind. It's solving the goddamn puzzles all over again that's frustrating.

There are puzzles? I think they hardly even deserve that title
