what?

I drop by this thread to see if there were any hot discussions, and I find this. Now I'm not even touching the previous pages of the thread, and I'm rather afraid to be on the internet now if this is going to be a problem.

It was a joke. It was just a photoshop of Brimley's head on MC's body.

I'm just glad it doesn't happen so often anymore. Although I did spend a stupid amount of time on the Bioshock menu just moving up and down the options listening to the piano.
Still it's quite rare when a game comes out these days that makes its release date seem like Christmas some 10 years ago, and then rarer when people realise that instance and take hold of it to cherish the game as much as they can.

I always love when I can mark a certain time of the year with a significant game release. I love feeling compelled to go back and replay stuff due to that motivation, but that only comes from big releases and fantastic games.

I can remember doing it a lot back in the day, Super Mario 3, Street Fighter II on the SNES, Stunt Race FX ( :lol ), Metal Gear Solid, Ico... a hell of a lot of Dreamcast titles. Although I have to say that finally coming to GAF is causing these moments to appear with more regularity. I almost drove my girlfriend nuts waiting for Bioshock.

The first game I can remember doing it for was Sonic 3.

It's hard to believe Halo 3 is just two weeks away. It seems like we've been waiting an eternity. Maybe it's just because the story wasn't resolved in Halo 2, so the wait for Halo 2 actually didn't end with the game's release. Anyway, these next two weeks are going to be hell.

So, I preordered from Best Buy for the first time ever (because of the point card), but I won't be able to pick my copy up from the store until late in the day...like 8pm.

Do they really reserve a copy for me? Should I cancel my preorder and go with a EB Games that's closer to where I work?

Whatever gets you tea-baggin' Brutes earlier my friend.

Fuck, this shit lands on a Wed in the UK. I would normally take time off work, but my boss has gone and left me in charge of a mini project. POO! I guess it's going to have to be long nights, and shit loads of coffee during the day.

Those bastards at the London underground better not do another tube strike, I need to get home friggin hyper quick for my Halo fix.

I absolutely agree, the 26th, 27th and 28th are the most important days for my work, it's gonna be hectic >:( A tube strike would be a topping on an awful muffin... It was really bad last week, I didn't get into work until 10:30 and back until about 6:30.. LAME!

Wednesday is an odd day for a release in the UK, usually a Friday or if you pre-order online then Thursday.

I've got a horrible feeling i'm going to have to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Usually two days a week but we got our deadlines push forward and have to deliver the Beta in a few weeks :(

I bet the underground do a strike on Wednesday, you know, just to piss off all the gamers wanting to get home from work to play Halo.

There is an article previewing Halo 3 in USA Weekend. It follows two NFL players that take a trip to Bungie to play Halo 3. The article has no new information in it, and it does not give any insights into Bungie or Halo 3. It mainly talks about how much money Halo 3 is going to make and how Julia Roberts thinks BXR is fair.

Fingers crossed for you London Gaffers.

I still haven't decided where to preorder from yet.

This anticipation for Halo 3 certainly brings me back to my youth when I was licking my chops waiting for SNES Street Fighter II (and then later, Street Fighter II Turbo).

Another similarity is that I preordered Legendary Halo 3 before even owning a 360, much like how I got my mom to buy me Street Fighter II before an SNES. Of course back then, my reason was to guarantee I could have both, since I then told my mom that SFII was worthless without an SNES to play it on. :D
The wait for a "Falcon" Elite 360 here in Vancouver will be an excruciating one, but Halo 3 WILL get a heckuva lot of play time, just like SFII before it.

Fan am now.

A Bungie staffer walked up to him and introduced himself, saying, "Hi Paul - I'm XXXX from Bungie."

His name is Pete. And he's emo. So he cut himself a bit and watched a Crow marathon on sci-fi channel.

Wait.......what?!

I really can't relate my anticipation for Halo 3 to any game from the past. I was incredibly excited about Halo 2. Lined up at midnight (first game I had ever heard of people doing that for). Had 8 people at my house all night and on the release day. We wound up playing a bunch of system link multiplayer and the settled down and had 3 different pairs going through campaign co-operatively. We would all be progressing at similar rates so after each level we would all gather, get a drink, take a break and chat about the awesomeness. It was a cool day.

But what I'm feeling now is far greater. I'm past excited. I'm almost at a state of disbelief. I look at my calendar, count the days and ponder if it's really possible that in 16 days I will be playing Halo 3. It seems too good to be true.

This time I'm not having people over. I don't even have the game pre-ordered at a place where any of my friends do. I'll get my game at midnight, come home, examine the packaging, start it up, listen to the music kick in, get goosebumps, probably some tears in my eyes and I'll jump directly into the campaign. I don't need to see menus or option lists. I know what I've been waiting for and it's the campaign. I need to finish the fight. All the rest can wait for later.

I might even appear offline so I don't get interrupted by someone or tempted to look at other peoples achievements.

Fixed with linky goodness

Head-butts CONFIRMED.

Avoid the bonus discs and stuff till you've been through the campaign, all kinds of spoilers in there.

This concerns me because I planned on using the AV Calibration thing before I boot up the game. Is this a bad idea? Because I want to be perfectly calibrated before I experience Halo 3, yet I also want to avoid all spoilers. HELP!

This is a good question.

I seriously doubt they'd put anything resembling spoilers in the calibration tool, for precicely that reason. Just avoid the other sections on the disc and you'll be fine.

For better or worse, I've gotta slog through the campaign on Legendary. Heroic has just been too easy on the first two games. Now the only thing I have to decide is whether to wait in line at midnight, or get my Gamestop employee/roommate to walk in and just grab it for me.

This wait is killing me. My sideburns are shivvering with anticipation.

I didn't want to search all these pages on here, so quick question- is the split screen split vertical or horizontal? I hope they've changed it since the beta

I would be surprised too, but I would hate to load it up and see a giant picture of the gravemind eating master chief in the background, showing how the game ends.

Frankie recommended that you fire up the calibration tool first. He's not stupid. Not a chance in hell of any spoilers.

I don't think there has been an official comment on split screen, but all the newest screenshots I've seen show it as horizontal when playing in HD.

Hell yeah dude, Sonic 3 is one of my all-time favorite games. I awaited that with great anticipation. And then, the same year, Sonic & Knuckles came out (Sonic 3 part 2) and it was pure gaming bliss.

Yes I too cannot believe we are so close to what could possibly be the greatest entertainment experience ever for me. :D

That was my question as well.

I haven't been able to justify buying a calibration disc in the past, because the projector looked fine as it it is. But, since the LE includes an AV tool, I want to get the colors just right to fully appreciate the Halers 3.

My plans:

a) Get game.

7) Get home.

%) Calibrate the ol' PLZ-4 using my ultra-nifty and much appreciated AV calibration discus.

x) Create my character and tweak all the controls, weep a little as I wallow in the last little bits of anticipation.

*) Start the campaign on Heroic, only to be rudely interrupted in the middle of the first cut scene by my wife and two month old baby, probably wanting something like 'help' or 'dinner' some other insignificant annoyance.

6) Come back some time later and play that baby until I pass out from awesome.

@) Forge. Bitches.

12) Multiplayer. I will be humped.

"Halo" has inspired a passionate following of (mostly) teen and 20-something fan-boys who immerse themselves within its alternate reality. The game's plot is pure potboiler: In the year 2552, genetically altered super-soldier Master Chief and his purple-blue Tinkerbell, Cortana, try to protect Earth by battling an evil alien alliance called the Covenant on a mysterious ring-shaped world.

Reading about Halo's plot and fan base from a non-gaming news source makes it sound uber-geeky. All we need now are some Sangheili-English dictionaries (if there aren't any already.) We can also create our own fictional UNSC units similar to the 501st legion. But until then, at least more action figures are on their way :D . We're not as bad as trekkies are we?

I've noticed a few people that were not aware of this option.

To change your online status, go to xbox.com and then Manage Profile --> Privacy Settings

For your online status and communications, you can choose to allow only Friends (except for Friend requests) or to block everyone. I'm going dark, blocking all messages and setting my online status to Offline. I'll emerge from my shell after a couple days, Campaign secrets behind me.

You can describe just about any sci-fi in ways that makes the premise and story sound pretty geeky, especially by someone not very familiar with it. It's in the genre.

Yes! I'm currently up to date with the thread. Now, what's with the Brimley ban? I haven't been here to enjoy much of it and now it goes away? *cries*

I hate talking about FPS games in public. I think it always makes me sound like some crazed psychopath.
