The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

I have $9.01 in my iTunes account. I'm looking to buy a game with it. Does Rolando live up to the hype? How about Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes?

The game is great fun though only in short bursts to me, I also ran along a bug where if you quit the game mid race and replay the game at a later date no matter which circuit you select the game loads up your previous location, so you start on the carpet :lol

59p offer price is great though, it should be going up a few £ after midnight tonight.
 
ok, gang, what's the consensus on DDR?

i just tired the demo and it's just right my alley - challenging but with the right learning curve.


apropos, i'm in the early planning stages of a tap game of my own, but it won't be a dance game. so i'm interested in gaf's opinion on the current crop of tap games in the store - what are the good, the bad, and the evil?

The one thing that matters the most - the complete songlist - isn't discernible from the demo.

But given that I keep seeing framerate hiccups and timing window inconsistencies, I'm unlikely to pick up the full title even if it's every Bemani original I've ever loved.

The #1 most important thing for a rhythm game is a consistent framerate and timing windows.
 
I'm curious as to what the hell this game is all about. First game I've seen that says "You must be at least 17 years old to download this game". Nothing particularly naughty going by the pictures of the game they provide there.

and here i thought all those performance issues were from my 1G ipt. but i just tried it on a 2G ipt, and even though the bulk of the stuttering was gone, the game still manages to hiccup now and then. yep, konami dropped the ball there.

btw, tried one more tap game - saturday night fever - technically impressive in several aspects.
 
Is bomber online worth the 99cents? Also, is appsniper smart enough to know when a new game is on sale? Like since bomber online is 99 cents for the first couple of the days would it know it's say 66% off when the only price it's been posted as is 99 cents?

No, if it premieres as $.99, then that's the price that AppSniper will think it is normally. It can't read minds/text.

I just made my first purchases of tiki towers, slotz, bomber online, textropolis, and south park imaginationland. Hope they're good.

Some are good some are meh.

Always ask and most people will steer you towards the good apps.
 
Got the thing 2 weeks ago. DD is my kryptonite. Damn you Steam deals and Iphone sales.

7Cities
Fieldrunners
The creeps (I love TD on my phone. Not so much on a computer)
Real Soccer 09 (surprisingly pretty solid gameplay)
SlotZ (So glad I got it for 99 cents)
Fastlane (haven't got the hang of this one yet but looks good)
Space Deadbeef
Dragon Force (both of these are great little demos and I hope the games come out soon)
Rebel Onslaught (Starfox clone and not a bad one either)
Dungeon and Hero
Inotia (haven't taken the time to play these yet but dungeon crawler rpgs are fun)
Crazy Tanks (meh. Too simple and waste actually)
Hydro Tilt (good ball roller)
Cube (free)

So basically I was not a fan of the Iphone but I should have known this would happen. I can't wait to see what else is coming. Want to pick up Rolando and Edge but going to hold off a bit and dig into these for a while.

yeah I have Field Runners. 7 Cities and The Creeps. All look better than Crystal Defenders. All have their own little charm too. Creeps does some motion sensing things which are kinda neat. Everyone has their own favorite but over on toucharcade.com forum they are big fans of 7 cities and Besiegment. Later of which I haven't gotten around to yet. Also Tap Defense is pretty decent for being free.

edit:Creeps Lite out now.

Tiki Towers = Great
Textropolis = Good
Bomber Online = Okay
Slotz = Bad
South Park = Why?

Reading the pages people seemed to think they were ok and they were on sale for .99. Only one people didn't mention was southpark which is kind of fun. Textropolis is really addictive though since I always played text twist.

Slotz is bad? People seemed to like it although it was hard on the other page... South park I only got because it seemed like a stupid game I would waste time on plus I like south park so I figured what the hell. I'm trying to spend some of my itunes giftcards anyhow.

Edit: Just tried slotz and it's not bad for $.99. I guess you never really liked slot car racing?

awesomeness/hype = fraction of deserved hype

Example:

Rolando hype: 10
Rolando (verified) awesomeness: 7,5

Fraction of deserved hype = 7,5/10 = 3/4
 
Wow iFun was a shocker. Its really awsome to play on your Ipod and while it shows everything on your pc.

Bought a few apps. Very short impressions for no reason lol

(I suck at making impressions...)

HydroTilt: Ya know its funny, I only had 5 dollars and I went to buy hydrotilt when it said "error this app is currently updating" so after a hour I went again and bought it. Only to find out on today's email that it went on sale for 2.99 :lol (I manged to get egnimo with the extra)

Anywayz: One of my favorite apps. the changing to ice-steam-and water is cool.

Engimo: Really fun. Very hard. but really fun...

Dr. Awsome: Its awesome!!! Really good controls and being able to import your friends list is nice.

Topple: Suprisingly a very fun app. Stacking blocks is fun. To bad I have noone in my friendslist to share my scores. Seems to be the case for alot of apps. Anyone wanna trade emails?...

Rolando: Really, Really awsome.gameplay is fun...

Zyphyer: (Yea not really a game...) Really cool to see other's creations and create your own.

Sonic Boom (Yea another non game...) Lets just say this: I plugged my ipod into the pc stereo and turned it up...hehe....

Line Rider: My 1st line rider game (Except for the LPB level...which was the reason I bought it) Really fun. Hard to create any good levels though but playing other levels are fun.

Antimatter: Don't know why it has such negative reveiws. Its a really fun game.

Touch Physics: Really fun my main problem is not being able to choose any level Ive already beaten without starting at lvl 1.

Nano: Randomly found this. It is randomly fun. (I've said fun to many times have'nt I?)

Tiki Towers: Very challenging. Kinda confusing but still pretty...ok...

Pop: Loved it on the Wii. And I think I like the touch version even more...

Tap Tap Dance: Some really awsome songs...but the last "Boss" Blew me away with the visuals, music, and length.

Snowman: I only got this because I thought it said free :lol but at 99 cents it is kinda a cool app.

Mazefinger: Really fun...alittle hard to get used to.

Dropship: (I got all of NGmoco's apps :O) Really fun...kinda hard to control.

Now for free app impressions:

Tap Tap Revenge: My favorite app so far. Just crashes to many times (Yea I reset my iPod) Online is kinda buggy but still really cool.

Twinkle: My favorite twitter app since it links with your Tapolus profile.

iFun: While not my favorite app (But in the top 10) its still the app I was most impressed by seeing PC to Ipod connection. Wirelessly. Without even needing to install anything :D not to many "Iam" options..yet

Ibasketball,Igolf,IBaseball,Ifluff: All of these apps by SGN are outstanding. A couple crashs but still fun.

Myspace,facebook apps: Both are great. Even though the touch does'nt have a camera I have a blast creating photos with ipod apps like ezimba. If anyone wants to see them just pm me and I'll let you know my Myspace or facebook info.

AppVee: While theres alot of info on apps and it is good on deciding what apps you want, the videos are just to short. Makes me wanna start making app videos of just gameplay.

Animoto: WOW! Probally my favorite non-game app. Really cool.

Lightsaber: Great for making sound effects for my movies.

and thats all for now. wow that aqua moto game looks really...fun...

Also: I'm playing my touch alot more than my DS & PSP. I really do consider it a handheld gaming device.
 
Looks like Jake Hunter (or at least one case from the game) has been porter to iPhone. I've read some horrible things about the DS original but this type of Ace Attorney game seems perfect for iPhone. Anyone wanna take one for the team and pay the $2.99 for Jake Hunter?

This is the main reason I brought a Touch, since I do work at the pc I have little need for a mobile mp3 player so I brought the Touch for gaming and other apps, plus having a mobile youtube viewer :D
 
Does anyone know if 1112 is worth playing?

Also, has anyone played Imprisoned? It looks pretty neat.
 
What is the consenus as the best games right now? Like if you were to recommend for 360 you'd probably say mass effect, gears of war, halo, etc. Like the games that are unanimously agreed to be the best. Is there any consenus for the iphone/ipod touch?

Motion X: Poker. Still the only game I haven't regretted purchasing (at launch for $4.99).

I was just going to ask about these. Looks like there's 2 of them up so far. So each case is going to be added probably. I'll download one of em. Tried it on the DS, but didn't get that far. This is a good time to catch up. I'll report back with my thoughts.

EDIT: Wow they have cases 2 and 3 but not Case 1. :\

EDIT 2: Looks like they have one other case but it's only in Japanese

Slotz Racer makes me wanna go out and buy the real deal. Not some cheap ass slot racing set but an expensive set.

It's very difficult without true buttons on the device. Some games graft on the buttons for gas and break on screen but its hard to steer in conjunction with that.

Yeah, based on the names they're the same cases from the DS release over here. Might be cool if they release some other ones that haven't come over here, iPhone may be a better market than the DS for it right now.

If nothing else, paying ~$9 for the full DS game (assuming the last case gets released) is a better price. I haven't played the DS game yet, though, so I don't know if it's worthwhile.
 
I've been thinking about picking up Orions. How is that?
 
Just beat Edge and got all the prisms. Wow, that game was a real surprise. Perfect length, challenge and price. Highly reccomended! No way I'm gonna S+ those levels though. :lol
 
After developing a light addiction to Galcon, I decided to check out a really small strategy game called Strategery.

Not only is the name hilariously awesome, but the game is great. It's largely a simplified Risk. Everyone must check it out.

Not only that, it's $0.99!

If you are into racing games with an arcade feel buy Fastlane, amazing game and looks superb on the touch/iphone.
