Is it considered bad manner to write about it here since I'm both a GAF user and one of the game developers? Is there a proper way to share this with other gaffers? It's not viral marketing (we're not doing games as a living), but as gamers we'd like to show you what we've been up to lately.

Many developers post about their games on GAF, particularly in this thread (I'm one of them).

As long as you announce your connection with the game and don't spam about it, nobody should mind. The response is usually positive and appreciative of the heads up.

Yes, thanks for your reply btw, saw a few examples of this before (I knew about Bliddo that way), just explicitly checking to see that it's not considered annoying.
 
Hey, if there are any educational game/app developers kicking around in here: My wife is putting together a new feature like this one for our website and we're looking for a few recent (less than three months) games/apps to highlight in it.

Which is enough for three or four other games, and in the mean time what has he really missed out on by waiting a month? Also, if he saves $4 on every game he buys, he's probably saving a minimum of $100 a year.
 
Sure, but it's still very cheap for a game to be so nitpicky. That's why I hate the way the app store is, but we've all discussed that to death.

When people wait on a game with such high production values and praises because it's 6 dollars, it's pretty crazy. Do what you want to do, I've waited on games that were 10 but mostly because I didn't have time to play them yet. Everyone has a different budget and preference, it's just something that I still find surprising.
 
What's the best version of Hearts out there? Just learned to play the game yesterday and would like to play this on the road.

Found some free version (iHearts something..) but it lacks basic things like menu's and animation.

Exactly. iPhone games aren't the type of games that I need to buy day one - I've already got a huge backlog of them anyway. By waiting just a month, not only do I get them for significantly cheaper but there's also usually an update by then to fix any bugs/performance issues the early adopters have been suffering through.

It's not even about money really. I can afford all these games but why bother purchasing them when you know there'll be a price drop for sure in just a few weeks time. It'd be like buying an iPhone in June when everyone knows all-new refreshed models are coming in July. Doesn't make much sense imo.

Just wanted to chime in and echo the Hook Champ love. It's far from perfect, but its by far and away my favorite game for the platform so far. Once you get into a flow its horribly addictive replaying levels trying to beat your previous score, the developer scores, or failing dismally to beat the global scores :P Really satisfying noise when you pick up coins too!
 
I'm going to get Hook Champ tomorrow while I wait for my radio to be installed. I haven't been super interested, while the video looked cool and charming, but why not. People seem to really dig it.

Yes but that's the point; it's a chicken and the egg problem. "I'll wait so the price goes down to 99-1.99" vs "We need to put our game on sale because most people don't think an iPhone game is worth $5-$10." It's not really about whether you can afford it or not, just about the value iPhone gamers put on their games.

Whether it's a sophisticated 3d adventure or a simple 2d game about landing planes, it's appropriate at 99 cents and something people need to think over or push to the side if it's over 2 dollars. It's really crazy and interesting, and it sucks that some developers created this issue by going so low...and that Apple encourages it.

Nothing will change until Apple decides it's worth changing. A premium games store with locked pricing tiers and a $5 floor would solve the issue, IMO.

It's already been fixed to an extent by a few devs. Several applications recently have come out at a "temporary $1.99" price point, pointing at a probable rise to $2.99 or higher, but not a drop to 99 cents. May not work perfectly, and if you're already on the App store it's hard to try it, but I imagine it works alright.

Even if the prices do eventually drop to 99 cents, it's simple economics. Most of the people who impulse buy games on day one are the same people who would do that for $1.99. Meanwhile, those who wait are those who wait for 99 cents. Marginal utility maximization woo.
 
Just got into MafiaWars, really digging it.

However, I already found an exploit... at least I think it is. A guy popped up on my "fight" list who was level 8 (I'm level 7), with like 7 attack and 8 defense. He also had about 800 million dollars. I fought him 6 times, won every fight, and earned about $400,000.

Now, I have more money than I ever should have at level 7. Is the game balanced for this sort of thing?

I guess I make myself a bigger target by having that much cash?

Guess what NeoGAF? The third [adult swim] iPhone game is now available. It's Five Minutes to Kill (Yourself). Has bluetooth/wifi multiplayer (2 players), facebook leaderboards, local leaderboards, and touch controls.

I've started playing Mafia Wars and their street racing one recently. Good for a few minutes in the morning and night.
I'm lvl 12-ish on the street racing one and turned it on yesterday to find that I suddenly had 92 or so million. Had about 4 mill the time before.
Pumped it all in high income properties.
 
Playing Dungeon Hunter and Tiki Towers now. I don't mind the dungeon hunter dpad, but will try the point and click mode since everyone here seems to be praising it so much lol. I like Tiki Towers as my world of goo fix until goo comes out this christmas (hopefully!).

I got California Gold Rush a few days ago and love it so far. I bought I Dig It several months ago, and didn't really like it, but Gold Rush is a lot of fun.

the new update took away all of my previous playstats and save...
All of it is gone

Has anyone else played Keep Defenders? I've sunk about an hour into it and I'm pretty happy. Definitely worth the two bucks and I really see the potential for an awesome title. For whatever reason the artwork reminds me of the Tactics Ogre games which are dear to my heart. It's also the first RTS-like game that I've felt really comfortable controlling. The slow pace of the games helps some.

If anyone likes RTS-lite games it's really worth a look.
