I guess that explains why I didn't take any extra damage from a flaming hunter in campaign mode after this update.

that pounce of doom is awesome and hilarious.

That's kinda dumb. I think everyone should quit playing the game until Valve gives us back our scary hunters. ;_;

I'm joking, but really now. They haven't adjusted survivor weapons at all, besides the shotgun against versus mode tanks...

I had my first foray into versus mode last night....trial by fire! Damn our team got destroyed but it was a ton of fun!

Hopefully Charsace is ok today. Left 4 Dead is really stressful for him! :lol

...explain the difference? Isn't...all fire in the game dynamic?

It seems to me like a better fix would have been to make the fire deal more damage to the hunter per second. This would have limited the amount of time a hunter could stay on pounced survivors and made it more difficult to ferret fire from one part of a level to another, which is incredibly easy and advantageous to do now anyway because you burn so slowly and you die so fast to survivors anyway that it doesn't matter if you're at one health or max health most of the time.

fire hunters weren't a problem imo. i only had trouble when i had to play on a pub team. they always take their time to save a pounced teammate =\

I think I've done that once when my ping was 700+, otherwise I either land it or land an inch away and just go HAI GUYZ and try to get away. So many good pounces just a bit off, no matter how much 'correcting' I try to do.

If it's any consolation, I have just as much trouble and my ping's usually sub-100.

Of course. That could just be because I suck. ):

Pubs are weird. I joined a bunch in VS yesterday, right in the middle of a horde at the very start of BH3. Just as the horde ended, still surrounded by my teammates, I was pounced. Even though they were 6 feet from my helpless body, nobody noticed and I decided to see what would happen if I typed nothing. One guy used his med kit, while the others checked (forward) for zombies, then they all ran off. All of this time, the hunter was screaming, slashing away at my body. Eventually, just as my bleed-out timer was around the '30' mark with a couple of seconds left before death, one of them noticed and they tried to run back... too late.

How on earth 3 people managed to miss the 'hunter pounce' sound, miss the slashing and not realise one of their team is missing, is beyond me. Awful teamwork, no wonder the person who I replaced quit.

Seriously! I was in a pub game on the 360 and we were in No Mercy 3, in that room full of tanks (red room?), and I got smokered behind one of the tanks, and my teammates were seriously ON THE OTHER SIDE. Took a good 45 sec- 1 min for one of them to notice me. :|

Has anyone else been having serious lag issues on just about every server? I don't know if it's a coincidence but since the update I've yet to have my ping below 130 where as before I was nearly always <40 and everyone else's are high, too. That's using net_graph 1 on my end as well as the new numerical scoreboard. I rarely see anyone with green bars. Most of the time it just leads to mis-timed pounces or frustrating vomit misses but on a few occasions it's been unplayable and I've never had a game that bad before.

Is there some sort of cache I need to flush or something?
 
I'm getting increased lag too. I usually play on American servers with my buddies at around 100 ping, but recently can't get below 150. On Euro servers I'm getting increased lag despite similar pings too. And I have checked, Steam region is set to Europe.

I've seen an improvement the last couple of days with some servers but it's not back to normal yet.

The Untouchables achievement can still be glitched it seems, too. I joined a game that was on NM Final after the rescue vehicle was called and at the end of the game I got the achievement, despite definitely taking damage.

do you have really bad ping when you first join a game? on the first game i join after i first boot up l4d, my ping (or latency? the one by the wireless bars) is always super high, like 600, and goes down. any subsequent games i join are fine, and its at like 40s.

Jesus, you guys complaining about lag sound like my experiences I've had from day one. As I've mentioned before, I have a 70 ping tax for any server I join. If it says 30 in the ping browser, it'll be 100 in-game.

Now campaign doesn't seem to have this issue, but in versus it's iron fast. Anything under 70 is completely impossible. So if you guys were previously able to do sub-70, and it was just on my end, that would explain my frustrations I've had from day one with latency and this game.

I stopped playing for a week or two partly due to server frustrations, but I had a couple of games with great ping/performance after I came back. I did play one game where three of the other team had 70 ms ping or lower in the tab window, and my team all had like 140-170 ms ping. That was rather painful.

My main annoyance is the stuttering/teleporting that sometimes happens. I thought it might be my computer, and I think turning off dual-core rendering made things have a lower frame-rate but be smoother (still no FPS max available, meh). Unfortunately, some servers still either have a good ping but stutter, timing out or just being jittery, or else work great until a zombie horde is around, at which point the zombies jitter and teleport all over the place, making it an exercise in randomness to actually kill them.

I'm guessing that's a problem with low-powered servers that can't handle too many zombies. I hosted locally once and everyone had good pings until a few zombies showed up, at which point everyone else went up to 1000 ms or higher. :lol My computer was still very responsive, oddly enough. Maybe it saturated my net bandwidth or something?

At home I get 130+ ping usually and I still do perfectly fine.

People complaining about anything lower than 200 make me laugh.

And that's the problem. I can have 180 ms ping and maybe it's fine (except I can't time something like blocking a hunter, obviously). Or I can have 120 ms ping and zombies are teleporting around the landscape.

Another weird symptom I often have is the double shotgun sound. If I shoot and immediately melee (which I do most all the time), then the melee does at least half of a shotgun sound for the melee. I don't know if that's a server issue or a ping lag issue or what.

the double gun sounds more like a graphics stutter to me. u guys dont have the 600+ ping issue?

Zombies teleporting around and other weird lag like that seems like an all too common server side issue. Nowadays whenever we pubstomp we use sv_cheats 1;ms_force_dedicated server xxx:yyy to join a decent server.

Well, yeah, you have a completely different issue.

And actually I've had this problem a bit recently too.

My ping usually starts out really high then stabilizes. I think that's just the way the code works. It's not a big deal for me really. It's weird but, yeah. Shrug!

i get that too.

servers have been pretty good lately.

valve needs to fix the infected timer. you have to wait 20 seconds after a map loads. this really sucks for people who take a while to load (me...). probably my only issue w/ the patch.

The game is very playable even as you near 200.

So. Weird server.

Playing on NM Versus, then on level 2. Get about halfway through, and the round ends. We get credit for the team we have alive now. Then the next round ends faster, etc.

Was the server admin just fucking around with us for some odd reason?

Perhaps the issues I was having were server side then. I lost count of the number of times Boomer vomit passed clean through a survivor.

Is there any trick to landing a melee on a pouncing Hunter? I can never get the timing down on purpose but I'm always getting smacked around when I'm playing Infected. A lot of the time I'll swing when I see them coming but it's already too late and in the next frame I'm pounced.

Yes you can wall jump but every video that shows it kinda looks like your just using glitches to look cool. I did laugh at the lift opening and the survivors getting swarmed. :lol

What happened to the achievements? I lost my progress (3/4) on the one where you gotta play the campaigns on extreme (What are you trying to prove I think?). I also lost outbreak which was the first one I got. I then got lamb 2 slaughter in the middle of the first section of Blood Harvest. I'm seriously annoying about WAYTTP though as that takes forever playing public games...

Are/can they fix this?

Look straight up then about 10-15 degrees down, hold down s and then just keep pouncing. You can do a variation of it horizontally but it's not very useful.

e: valve confirmed 360 dlc will be out on april 21, I suppose there's some hope pc dlc will come eariler

Was thinking about getting back to playing some L4D in the near future, and then I see that the L4D DLC is coming to the 360 version in April. Looks like I'll be back around then:D
