The demo becomes available for everyone on Monday if I remember correctly. People who pre-order just get to play the demo early. It's a way to make people pre-order, boost the games sales a bit, and do a little bit of marketing and hyping. Smart move on their part.

Limiting the demo to preorders at first was an incredibly smart decision on Valve's part. The game had so many connection problems at first, and still does today, that it would have likely turned away potential customers. For now, only people who already preordered (in theory, ignoring that key hack) can play it.

By next tuesday, those issues should be ironed out, and it'll be ready for everyone else to play!
 
I can't believe this game is taking time away from LBP, but it is, and it's only one level too! This game is addicting as hell.

The demo for all is coming out then right? The Grim Chimera in Resistance 2 act like fast zombies, and pop out when you least expect it. In large numbers too, which really has me psyched for Left 4 Dead.
 
If their is one thing that I hope they can change, is that they add more characters to the game. That way if one of the players in the match dies, they can have an entirely different character pop-up as someone that needs to be "rescued". That way you don't have that strange "You're twin just died, good thing we found you." moment.

I see, thanks. I had no idea that it would eventually be an open demo...I thought that something incredibly stupid had taken place...:lol

It was pre-ordered on Steam the minute it was available. :P

I just haven't played with you for some reason. I've played with most of the other PC people in the thread, I think.
 
The auto-shotgun is a thing of beauty. Sure, I can't pop heads from 100 yards, but there's nothing like the feeling of completely destroying an incoming horde on your own.

Almost no one uses them :(

Anyway I was shocked at how fast the autoshotgun fired :lol

I think 2 people could down a tank in like 2 seconds.

I've been somewhat holding off on playing the demo too much. Only 4 or so hours at this point, most of that time on the subway section.
 
I have to chime in about the auto-shottie, the damn thing is a beast!!! I don't know about you fellow auto-shottie toting buddies have noticed this, but the damn thing for me anyways almost firest as fast as an m-16 sometimes for some reason when there is a horde this/close to you and the shottie and of course i win every time, MUAHAHAHAHA.

Well, there's been like five patches since release. They probably wanted to make sure there were no major bugs before releasing the demo to everyone. And I'm sure they did it to entice more people into pre-ordering as well.

Fixed bug where servers could stay reserved by matchmaking forever

Performance optimizations and fixes to networking layer

Fixed issue where game could cause Steam executable to use too much CPU

Fixed music resetting when changing video settings

Fixed some issues with not being able to chat and/or connect to other users

Yes, only one "official" patch was released, but I've been seeing smaller updates feed into the game every so often too.
 
I've played 10 hours. Mostly on expert.

I think I will put the demo aside now and wait till the full game so I don't get tired of the enemies and guns.
 
If you could compare the experience to another game, what would it be? I'm quite interested in how the game experience differs from other shooters.

Like one of the frantic action feeling shooters, such as Doom or Serious Sam or Painkiller, but with even more intensity and action and better pacing and better replayability and better characterization and more tactical.
 
The first time i have been pissed playing this game just occured and it wasnt even the game itself that did it. I joined on a pub server with 3 others, one in particular...crazeeewar. He switched it to expert and right out of the gate, this retard took half my life from me because he doesnt bother to aim. So i told him to watch his aim and i heal my self and he takes another half my health. So he said it happens and then just took me out completely, dead. He eventually dies and we start over and he grabs an uzi and takes me out again..i understand the concept of being able to accidentally hitting teammates, but this game is going to have so many griefers because of this.

Well me and some friend's have a dedicated server up now.

I tried out some of the cheat codes t hat let you play as the boss zombies. God, we laughed so hard at the ridiculous shit that would happen. Chasing down your friends as a hunter is great.

My impressions of them :D

Every zombie has a swipe and a special attack

Boomer
Easily able to hit multiple targets with barf, but also easy to get hit.

Hunter
I anticipated to play this the most, but now that I played this I don't really see it... His hop is good, but the AI survivors constantly killed me with ease :/

Smoker
I can see this guy being quite the infected, but only when survivors get lost from the group, this guy can take it out with ease. Otherwise, get close and you're dead.

Tank
Quite overpowered. Though when he gets shot at he slows down, so he's weak in open areas where survivors run and gun, good in closed areas.
 
I really hope this connection issue i'm having is fixed by the time the actual game hits. I'm getting frustrated. :(

Playing single player is still pretty awesome though!
 
You know, I think L4D on Expert is kind of like that Halo: CE on Legendary experience. Even though you might die and have to do things over and over, it's different every time, and the chaos that ensues involves hilarity, shock, awe, and challenge. The way the AI on both sides acts and re-acts...The unpredictability of every situation. It's just great. Can't wait now.
 
WTF... I just got an unreadable disk error playing the demo on 360... How is that even possible? It's been dropping connections a lot today also for some reason.
