The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

Wow, fuck this.

My copy of L4D on 360 is so borked. I put the game in, it loads up fine, but once I get into the game the graphics go completely haywire. Everything becomes 2D and the graphics go to shit, displaying random boxes of random colors (there's a hell of a lot of purple) before I get a random disc read error.

What the fuck is going on? The disc is in PERFECT condition but every time I load the game up, this same situation happens. What should I do, L4GAF?

Are you having problems with any other games? It sounds sorta like a 360 hardware issue. I can't really see it being a bad disc, the odds are probably pretty low.

Nope, it's only L4D. I found a picture of what it kind of looks like. Apparently this happened to people in the beta demo.

It's kind of like this but with more ridiculous colors all over the place (ie I can't see a goddamn thing except the outlines of walls and my gun) and no graphics:

Yep. But in both cases it seems like it's encoded way too fast for left 4 dead to play properly, even though music players have no problems with the file.

As I don't have a 360, not sure. If all your other games run fine, maybe shoot an e-mail/call customer support for Valve/EA this week?

I once had that problem. I just restarted the game and it went away.

It only happened once.

My graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 512

I'm just curious but where did I say that? I said that all my other games work fine and it's just L4D that's acting this way.

And yeah, I guess I'll call up Valve HQ and give them a piece of my mind.

I just did a search, and you're right, you didn't. I remembered wrong. You did say you were going to call Valve or something for a replacement.

Install it to your hard drive and see if it still happens.

I've seen this happen before, though not to that extent. It was a mild confetti-like pixelation. Made BH's corn fields impossible to navigate. I think it was just the disk, in that instance. I'd definitely recommend trying another disk if at all possible. I suppose installing to HDD isn't a bad idea, either.
 
Ok Blizzard, go to steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\sound\music\tank, and there should be Tank.wav and Taank.wav. I copied and pasted those to the D:\steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\sound\music folder, just to keep the original. Now grab this: http://redscarlet.paragonsigma.com/bennytank.wav (you might have to go to just http://redscarlet.paragonsigma.com then right click bennytank.wav) and copy/paste it into the steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\sound\music\tank folder, then rename it to Tank.wav, then copy and paste it into that folder again and rename the second one Taank.wav, and it should play the Benny Hill music instead when you bump into a Tank. If it's too loud/not loud enough, I can try to adjust it, but I'll have to re-upload, so it could take awhile.

Thanks a lot, I'll try! I knew where to put the music and what to call it. It's just that both songs I tried before played too fast, so I'm doing something wrong with WAV rate or something.

*edit* It worked. I'll have to try making something with the same bitrate in the future.
 
I hate playing on laggy servers. I got hit by a tank that was across the helipad from me! HAX.

Oh well, fun to switch after dying and finish off my team...

its starting to get old, needs more content or...like "any" patch? Someone wake up turtle rock studios....team fortress 2s support is a polar opposite in comparison, especially considering that was a part of a 4 games for 50 bucks package.

TF2 was released in October and got its first 'map' on the 26th of January, and that was just Well changed to CTF.

Badlands, the first real new map came out February 14th.

Left 4 Dead is hardly the 'polar opposite' given that it was released several weeks later in the year. And not to mention that one 'map' for L4D is actually 5 maps.

It took me a few tries to get the conversion of my .mp3s play right. Although I'm getting a bit tired of Yackety Sax now - even if it's really good at notifying to me that there's a tank before the regular music does the same to my team mates.

I feel like this game could do with an additional mode where the only objective is to survive for, say, 10-30 minutes. I know there's always Zombie Panic! Source for that, but I'd like to see it in a more polished form.

Sorry to bail on my GAF teammates, but I was more of a liabilty than anything. Without question the worst lag I've experienced.
 
That was an interesting Versus match earlier tonight, everyone. My team was lagging behind after we wiped on the first area, but though a combination of luck and teamwork, we managed to survive the finale and wipe Blizzard's team.

Sorry you ran your second tank off the roof, DaFish. =(
 
I finally got some good time in with this game tonight.

I have to say that this is the first FPS type game I've liked in almost 3 years. Great job on this game to whoever made it. You made a game I like inside a genre that I hate.

As much as I enjoy the four movies in the game, I hope that some of the DLC has maps which are a chapter or so long. It's a huge effort getting together an 8-player party for a 2 hour match, and when the teams are unbalanced it would be much better to play a 30 minute game and reshuffle the players.

I'd like to see a new 5-chapter movie and 3--4 individual short campaigns. Or maybe even the option to play versus for a single chapter and auto-quit at the end.
 
Awesooooooooooooooooome, I got L4D Splitscreen to work with my PS3 controller. It took me some time and I wrote the whole code just so I can just exec some cfgs :D

last night was VERY interesting.

due to the servers being down seemingly the only way to get on was via the serverbrowser command. So me and a mate jumped on and had one the messiest interesting games of L4D so far. it started off with a chinese named guy who committed suicide then left the server (thanks for that btw) then as we moved on we picked up more players until we got a decent game running. half way through the "alpha male" on my team was trying to give us plans except that he himself would then disregard them.... for example he would say everyone stay up beside the hospital and get them as they climb out of the ladder from the sewers which was fair enough. then he jumps down after them...... and because i was trying to help him out by grabbing one (2 were down from a rush of zombies at that point) and accidently fell down (at which point i did infact say sorry) he gave out to me for not staying with the plan.... right.... he then rage quit on the next safe house loading screen but not without trying to kill everyone first.

so thanks for that Log1k and if i see you again i will never play with you.

once he left we actually did a lot better (not too surprising really) and was really enjoying it however the most interesting thing about the entire game was the fact that due to the steam servers being borked (at least i think its due to them) the mics were open for the whole server. so basically i could hear the infected talk and they could hear us. it led to some interesting convo's and by the end of it we all actually got on better ("nice pounce", "damn i almost got you there" that kind of thing). was actually quite friendly although you did hear people getting frustrated the other team were replying saying "well you didnt stand a chance i had a good shot/pounce/swipe/vomit at you".

overall i think i liked it that way although it did completely kill any atmosphere the game had in terms of tension but i think versus doesnt have any tension left in it. i mean by now we all now the in's and out's so there isnt much tension. i know there is fear of a tank and a boomer hitting you at the same time but its not the same feeling we all got in the first 20 hours of gameplay or the feeling we get from expert campaign mode.
 
blargh. I'm just not very good at this game! Well, I think I do ok, but wow. I was playing with some 'let's never talk' people and on no mercy we in a room shooting down on zombies, I say 'guys, tank is entering the room behind us jump out!

So I do and land literally immediately in a pile of boomer spew, tank drops out, beats me to death. Nobody helped :(

just throw molotovs or some shit. god.

Well burning the tank and running is pretty much the best tactic, at least on expert.
