What makes you think Luffy knows who Sabo's family really is? All is knows is that Sabo's family wants him back, not who Sabo's family is.Kreed said:One Piece Spoilers
I wasn't expecting Sabo to die but that was a nice twist with him being one of the Nobles. Now I really wonder why Luffy doesn't remember them (story wise vs Oda possibly coming up with this as he went along). Sure Luffy forgets details, but I don't think he'd forget a "dramatic" detail like this involving a comrade.
Sabo tells both Ace and Luffy in this chapter that he is a noble of the Goa Kingdom.fireside said:What makes you think Luffy knows who Sabo's family really is? All is knows is that Sabo's family wants him back, not who Sabo's family is.
OH NO!!!Versipellis said:And if Sabo doesn't die, please, please, don't make Luffy meet him and he's a villain or a good guy or whatever. It's just some new charatcter Luffy never mentioned or cared about.
I think it's really really likely that Oda just came up with this Sabo guy in the last few volumes. I don't know how the reunion will shape up, but I don't like the premise.Kreed said:Now I really wonder why Luffy doesn't remember them (story wise vs Oda possibly coming up with this as he went along).
Ah, missed that part. Still, they seem to be nobles of the Goa Kingdom, not World Nobles.Griffith said:One Piece

This will cripple Aizen's smirky badassedness. (He disabled almost everyone by cutting off their arms after all...)Zoe said:Guess you completely forgot about Jidanbou? Hell, they didn't even want to show Kuukaku without a prosthetic.

Still, it would have been nice if Oda had shown hints of Sabo during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. But I guess since Luffy is going to have to return there to get his ship anyway that will be the perfect opportunity.

Betting the Princess his parents want him to marry is a World Noble.gundamkyoukai said:From the spoilers it does not look like Sabo is a world noble , just royalty from Goa Kingdom who run away from home.

goompapa said:That depends on whether the Nobles still have a big role to play during this flashback. Luffy doesn't strike me as someone that remembers names without encounters.

There is nothing to suggest that Sabo was taken away by World Nobles. Sabo is a noble of the Goa Kingdom. He's like Vivi.Kreed said:One Piece Spoilers:
Griffith already answered the family question but I wasn't even talking about Sabo's family specifically. I was speaking in regards the World Nobles/Celestial Dragons in general. Luffy had no idea who the World Nobles/Celestial Dragons were in Sabaody Archipelago when they were mentioned by name. If one of his comrades was taken away by them, it's hard to believe that Luffy wouldn't at least remember the name of the group no matter how forgetful he is at times.

So you think the World Nobles being mentioned at the end of the last chapter has no relation to this?

Luffy does forget things often but when it comes to comrades/close friends he tends to remember important details and Sabo being taken by the World Nobles and being a World Noble doesn't strike me as something he'd forget. At the very least he shouldn't have been completely clueless as to who the World Nobles were when they were introduced in Sabaody Archipelago.

They wouldn't even have to do it that often since Akamatsu takes so many breaks (for the record, taking a one week break every 2-3 weeks > randomly quitting a la Togashi/Miura)

Apparently not, unless something changes in the next few chapters. As of now, the World Nobles/Tenryuubito/Celestial Dragons/whateveryouwanttocallthoserichbastards have nothing to do with this chapter. Which of course makes last week's cliffhanger kind of confusing.fireside said:Betting the Princess his parents want him to marry is a World Noble.

Coincidence? Weird Translation? Foreshadowing some how?
You decide.
Fake edit: Whitebeard will die a loser!!! It's an absolutely fitting end for the king of trash mountain!
Yup, I was going to add something like that about Oda's ability to introduce new "old" characters but I had to rewrite the post so that bit remained on the tip of my fingers.Kreed said:I'd like to give Oda the benefit of the doubt since he is really good at foreshadowing and taking small elements in past chapters and turning them into major ones (Rayleigh, Garp, Haki, etc...) but I do think that Sabo was new addition to the story. Oda probably thought him up once he made the decision to kill Ace.
Proving yet again that speculating based on spoiler information is a giant waste of time.grandjedi6 said:EDIT: Actually, after reading the full chapter it seems like the princess isn't any specific person, but rather an ideal. So its still entirely possible that Sabo gets forced into marrying one of the World Nobles who are coming (perhaps that's why his Dad became extra persistent in bring him back). Guess we'll just have to wait and see either way.

I can't remember the last time One Piece bored me as much as these flashback chapters have. It was on such a great roll too. Hope we get back to Hancock soon.
Bleach
I should start timing how long it takes to read these chapters. Can't be longer than a minute or two.
I fully expect this to be stated alot now that Sabo's dream has been revealed.QuiteWhittle said:Sabo = the Next Strawhat

It was a boob jokeA Black Falcon said:She had a whip from the beginning, she just never used it as far as I can remember... but if she has it she must be able to use it, and she is, as we finally saw. I guess he just remembered that she should have been using the whip on occasion all along, or something?
You're right we haven't seen much of this kind of athleticism from her, so it was a bit surprising, but she does win her fights, and hasn't always relied 100% on spirits all of the time, so it wasn't completely out of nowhere, I think. It was cool to see her win so convincingly.
I can't imagine Luffy going anywhere without his crew. Rescuing Ace was one thing, but everything else is unimportant to Luffy.grandjedi6 said:One Piece
I think a Mariejois arc is coming up. Between the world nobles, Hancock, Fisher Tiger, slavery, Doflamingo and now this flashback, alot has been building up to a story arc about it. Plus history has shown that if a place is mentioned, Luffy will probably go there. Now the real question is whether it'll happen before or after the crew reunites and whether it'll happen before or during the Merman Island arc.
People need to calm down about the crew reuniting. Even without this flashback, its still probably a while aways. There's just too many plotlines popping up right now for it to happen just yet.
