Ausiello Spoilers 2/11/09.......

Question: Has Tom Welling signed on for season 9 of Smallville yet? -- Pat

Ausiello: No. I'm not sure what's taking so long.

Question: Any news from Lois' big return to Smallville? -- Claudia

Ausiello: It airs March 5. It features a return appearance by Tori Spelling. It finds Clark revealing his true identity to the world. And I'm told it will have Lois and Clark fans forgetting Lana appeared in any episodes at all this season.

So many weird things going on such as Tom still not signed up, rumor that Clark will fly in the finale, episode movements, two producers leaving, etc leave me to believe that Smallville may be cancelled after season 8.

Has nothing to do with Smallville. Supernatural was pushed back a week as well. That's nothing more than CW changing the schedule by a week.

I still have hopes for a season 9. Clark flying was bound to happen with the previous producers leaving. That's something that was said before season 8 began.

Holy shit, I hate fan forums. Taking a peak at the posts on Kryptonsite, all anyone does is fucking bitch and bitch. A whole thread about Lana and Clark breaking the bed about how it was an antique and goes against Clark's morals? I feel embarrassed liking the show after reading that crap.

Someone else bitching that this "now feels like a DC alternate universe". ... Uh, yeah. Because it is. That's what it has been since episode 1. Why are you just now noticing?

I suppose "Infamous" will be one of those episodes where Clark dreams what it'd be like if he told everyone about himself and by the end of it he'll realise it's a mistake and take on an alternative identity.

But I hope not...

First look at Zatanna. Looks great!

"She'll allow Clark to experience a life less encumbered with hiding his identity as the Red Blue Blur."

If they were smart, she would give Clark some sort of glasses that when he wore them, people wouldn't notice his face looked like that of the Red Blue Blur (and eventually Superman). Of course, if people saw him use his powers or take off his glasses and become the Blur or Superman, they'd obviously know.

The glasses would simply put an aura around his face kind of like he's wearing a mask, then taking off the glasses is basically taking off the mask.

Zatanna would be the perfect way to introduce that, but I highly doubt they'd ever do that. We'll never see Clark with glasses in this show as an ongoing thing.

But I think that'd be a cool and unique way for them to do the secret identity thing, since they kind of backed themselves into a corner with him never wearing glasses when he was younger. Would put a neat Smallville twist on it.

Interesting idea, but what if Clark just wanted to take off his glasses because he wanted to clean them or rub his eyes - ZOMG SUPERMAN!!!

:lol

Well let's be honest. That's just as ridiculous as people not realizing it's Superman in the comics because of regular unmagical glasses.

Worst. Disguise. Ever.

Now lets hope that the impending producer strike and crashing global economy doesn't kill season 9 from happening.

Great. I just hope they go at it all season with the intentions of it being the last season. I want the show to end right, but it does need to end.

Agreed. And with the rumor that in the finale this year that
Clark will fly
I have no doubt. I have huge trust in the people behind the show now. They even made me tear up when Lana of all people left, and while I liked her, I was tired of that relationship.

They need to sign Erica Durance for a 22 episode stint and go full steam ahead with the Clark/Lois romance. The fact that she was still on a 13 episode contract this year is ridiculous. Fix that!

9 should be it for Smallville, absolutely. But the fanboy in me says "what if they have him become Superman and the show becomes something new and they somehow get the cast to continue the show as what would essentially be a brand new show for a couple years?"

I mean, it'll absolutely never happen, but a fanboy can dream.

Apparently, it was questionable whether or not The CW could last, but that in recent months, ratings became more solid. Supernatural is renewed too. :D

The CW has released the description for the episode after next, which will air March 19.

TESS SETS A TRAP FOR CLARK — Tess (Cassidy Freeman) invites Clark (Tom Welling) to a press conference in New York but when an explosion rocks the private jet they are on, Clark must figure out how to save them without Tess learning his secret. Unbeknownst to Clark,
Tess orchestrated the explosion to get Clark to reveal his powers
. Meanwhile, Davis (Sam Witwer) discovers a surprising way to control the monster within. Kevin Fair directed the episode written by Turi Meyer & Al Septien

Sounds awesome! BUT WAIT. WHAT'S THIS? SEASON... 10!?

From Supermanhomepage:

On the back of yesterday's announcement that The CW has renewed "Smallville" for a 9th season, the Superman Homepage did some digging to find out just who will be returning in Season 9.

A source well positioned to know about these things told the Superman Homepage that at this point in a TV series Warner Bros. requires main cast members to sign a 2 year contract. Therefore Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan), Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen) and Erica Durance (Lois Lane) were all signed on for a possible 9th season when they negotiated their contracts at the beginning of Season 8.

So, with Tom Welling's original contract having been for 8 seasons, his new contract (signed for season 9) would most likely also be a 2 year deal, meaning there could potentially be a season 10!

HUGE FUCKING SPOILER. (And speculation as to what it means.)

A "long running character" is biting the dust in the season finale. That could only be Chloe.

Chloe dying would be massive, who would replace her? its not like when Lana was gone and the show actually improved

It could be Lex, or with the guarantee of another season, it could very easily be Clark via Doomsday (as a cliffhanger)

Whereas the opening credits for the first 7 years was Clark/Lana/Lex, then everyone else and now it's Clark/Chloe/Lois, then everyone else, I think next year will be Clark/Lois, then everyone else.

Erica Durance's Lois has always been kind of on the backburner. Every season since she started, she's only had a 13-episode contract. I really hope now that Lana is gone for good, that she will get a full season contract next year. She really came into her own this year, in my opinion.

But yeah, that would be massive and it would show the new producers have some balls. There's really not much more they can do with her as a character, and it would hugely push Clark towards becoming Superman. Though I think Lex should be the one to off her, rather than Doomsday. But alas, he won't come back. That moment would be epic though.

Oh, and one more spoiler. That other "very big thing" that will happen in the finale is now rumored to be
the Legion
returning for some reason. Though Ausiello might have meant the
Justice League
. Could be either or.

I think the
flight
is becoming less and less likely, but if ALL these things happened in the finale, holy crap.

Edit: I never even realized that.
Clark vs. Doomsday. It could easily be Clark for a cliffhanger.

Oh, and confirmation from Gregory Noveck, Senior VP - Creative Affairs of DC Comics on
the Legion
returning this season.

-The Legion
is returning this season, so Ausiello was right
-The writers of Smallville will be discussing next season with him in the next few weeks about what characters they want to bring in.
-Bruce Wayne is a NO. But they're open to any other characters in the Superman universe
-Smallville is considered an elseworld by DC comics
-Smallville is their own mythology

One more bump from me, because this is all coming together in my mind. Just speculation, obviously, but it could make this the best season finale in the entire series.

This is what we know:

- A "long-running character" is dying.
- The last two episodes of the season is about a manhunt for Chloe and Davis.
- The Legion is returning this season for sure, rumored to be in the finale.
- Another rumor is that a "very big thing that fans have been waiting for" will happen at the end of the season/in the season finale. Clark flying is the speculation.
- The following quote was said by the Legion in their first episode this season, about Chloe: "Maybe her death is the reason Clark takes flight".

With all that in mind, there could be a potentially amazing scene in the finale:

Clark is holding Chloe's lifeless body in his arms. He looks up into the sky with tears in his eyes, and anger starting to show on his face. He lays Chloe's body down onto the ground, stands up, and takes flight to go after Doomsday. Maybe even in public, but with people only being able to see him in his red jacket from behind, then watching him fly off into the sky. Personally, I'd like Lois to be there with Chloe and Clark, and have her find out about Clark then -- just skip all the drama nonsense, since there's only one season left most likely. But that won't happen, but the rest could!

Awesome that the Legion are coming back, little sad that I likely won't see Allison Mack next season. Really hope Clark takes flight. He's supposed to be hesitant, not retarded.

Hope they go epic with the Doomsday and Clark fight scene.

omg rite said:
Um, so word is we're going to have
TWO deaths
in the finale. Like, for real.
Permanent.

I bet you Tess Mercer is going to be one of them. Her role is pretty much over now that Lex is gone. Chloe is probably the other one.

i think theres little chance that
clark will die in the finale. its too similar to previous "clark is in danger" scenarios and imo doesnt work as a finale because we know hes not dead. theyve also "killed" chloe at least once before, so if it is her, it has to be final. 2 deaths though? who else could it be? chloe and i guess jimmy, but that wouldnt work in the mythology right?

the finale will be have to be epic if it wants to top season 1 finale "Tempest" as the greatest finale/cliffhanger in the history of mankind (that ive seen)

I'm sure they'll keep Jimmy. He's like, Clark's only male friend in the whole show at this point besides Oliver.

true, but
id imagine that he is going to be a crybaby for a while after chloe is killed, which will just ruin everything. it would be awesome if both jimmy and lois find out his identity soon. does jimmy olsen know his secret in superman world?

Completely agree with that. Like I said before, I think the season should end with
Doomsday killing Chloe, with Clark, Jimmy, and Lois, surrounding her body. Clark stands up from Chloe's body, and flies off without saying a word, right in front of Lois and Jimmy. Clark fights Doomsday, killing him (second cast member permanent death) and dying himself.
And then the final scene should be a version of this:

The two top guesses for death are:

Chloe Sullivan
Davis Bloome

Davis Bloome will not be in season 9 at all (his monster form will be there) so essentially, Davis Bloome the character will indeed be dying. So that is why my second guess would be Davis Bloome. As for Chloe, last time I knew, she was signed on for a season 9 but it is possible that the writers/producers decided to kill off her character possibly in an effort to save money (Allison Mack was the second highest paid character after Tom Welling from what I know). Just a possibility, budget may have nothing to do with Chloe leaving. Other reason could be the fact that they have hinted that something was going to be happening to Chloe (EX: Legion comments)

Also it is being reported that the producers are in talks with Michael to reprise his role as Lex Luthor (Michael wanting to use a bald cap or wear a wig). It's more or less a rumor and nothing may come of it but if this does happen then maybe the second character death will be Tess (Tess tries to bring down Doomsday in a later episode). All speculation at this point though. The Legion, The Justice League and the Injustice League will all play a role later this season as well which really sounds exciting to me. A heck of a lot of stuff is planned for the next eight episodes and I bet season 9 will be just as awesome.

This is good news (I think?)

Although I've REALLY been enjoying the show this season, (I absolutely LOVED how they chose to write Lana off) what I really want at this point is satisfactory finish to the show, rather than more and more seasons.

But if they can inject new life into it next season like they did this season, then I think I can take a season or 2 more.

TVGuide: "The Most Super Moments to Watch for!" (Future Spoilers):

The CW's Smallville resumes its eighth season this Thursday at 8 pm/ET, with "Infamous," the first of eight new episodes.

In keeping with that theme of "eight," TVGuide.com invited executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson to tease the big moments to watch for this spring, from eight specific categories.

The twosome's teases may in some instances be short, but each one is still oh-so-sweet to speculate about and set the TiVo for. Here now is the producers' laundry list of especially super scenes.

The Most Frightening Moment
"Beast", Episode 20: "Chloe's Beauty and the Beast fantasy turns into a nightmare."

The Most Iconic Moment
"Infamous," Episode 15: "Lois, in Clark's arms, says, 'Guess I can't call you Smallville anymore.'"

The Most Romantic Moment
"Stiletto," Episode 19: "Phone booth. Lois. Red-Blue Blur."

The Most Comical Moment
"Hex," Episode 17: "Chlois gives a 'hexed' Clark a Superhero 101 crash course."

The Most Intense Moment
"Turbulence," Episode 16: "Every minute that Chloe is torn between Jimmy and Davis."

The Most Unexpected Moment
"One word: 'Eternal' (aka Episode 18). If we said any more, it wouldn't be unexpected."

The Most Action-Packed Moment
"Multiple-choice answer:
1. Lois in stiletto boots and a cape, in 'Stiletto'
2. Clark and Tess in a plummeting plane, in 'Turbulence'
3. Clark Kent vs. Doomsday in Episode 22, 'Doomsday'"

And the Most Devastating Moment
"We've titled the season finale 'Doomsday' for a reason."
