The Official Smallville Season 8 Thread

I finished last night's episode. This season has been so awesome, I really would hate to see the series end now. They really have been doing a great job of Lex's departure because this season has such an evil menacing feeling hanging in the air even though he is directly not on the show. Next episode looks so hot.

The recent episode pretty much confirms to me that the only reason I like the show so much more this season is because of the lack of Lana.

God the whole episode was ridicules.

Apparently Lana does have superpowers. The ability to convince people to do stupid stuff with no caution.

We seen it all the previous season with Clark.

Now we see in two situations with two suppositely brilliant people.

1. This chick randomly shows up in your house and ask you to make her a killing machine. She's all rude to you and shit but hey lets just teach her all your techniques and call it a day.

2. The wife of your boss asks you to betray your boss, who is an extremely powerful and vengeful man, to give her this super power suit. There's no thought process like she might betray you and tell Lex or that she won't do any of the good she promised. I mean its not like she's some known hero or something. Just your boss's wife asking you to betray your boss.

Weird directed episode. Camera angles were all over the place.

Spoiler tag that shit guys. Always go fresh into a smallville episode, would have prefered not to know lex's ressurection is next.

That was seriously an awesome episode. The Lana hate is a little ridiculous. People only hate on her simply because she's Lana. It was the producers that made her annoying as hell in seasons 4 through 7. They brought her back for a 5 episode stint and they had a cool storyline for her.

She's only got one left, so even if you can't stand her THAT much, it's not that big of a deal.

But yeah, loved the episode. Tess is fucking great. And Alison Mack did a fantastic job directing. I like how she tried some weird camera angles, but they worked well.

I haven't seen this show since part way through season 6... should I pick it back up again? D:
Outside of the Lana guest episodes, this season has been pretty solid.

Hmm. How was the rest of season 6 and 7? I only saw up to the point where Oliver Queen shows up, heh.

Eh, I can't really comment on those, since I honestly can't really remember all that much. The episodes were pretty forgettable for me, take that as you will.

as for this season, when the hell is Lois coming back?

I stopped watching right around season 4.

I started on season 8 because of the JLA, Maxima, and the Legion.

I then proceeded to watch all the episodes that I missed. Watching the worst after the better I love the show again. Season 8 has been one awesome episode after another... I'm even enjoying the Lana episodes. But I definitely preferred the mythos based episodes of the early eighth season.

I just got home and tuned in to tonight's episode, but... that's the bomb they had trouble finding? A big, glowing bomb -looking thing on the roof of the Daily Planet? Am I missing something, having just tuned in?

EDIT: Guess not, Ripclawe's as dumbfounded as I am.

Okay, that was a pretty powerful farewell. I'll admit, well done Smallville.

I thought the kiss was exceptionally done but I'm tired of seeing Clark and Lana breaking up. I guess I've grown cold to the whole process.

I was hoping that this time they would part on both their terms and it would be a mutual understanding that as much as they love each other, they are simply destined to lead two different lives. What we got here was a shoddy plot device as to why they can't be together.

As much as I hate Clana that was a good, sad, ending to them. Now lets get moving with Clois. Move up from angtsy teen puppy love to hot adult naked scene in house of the dead love.

Lana arc was horrible but the next episode which won't air until March, sounds awesome as heck. Lets hope they can salvage this season after what they did with the Lana arc.

Completely agreed, man. It kind of makes Lois look like a consolation prize because you know Clark still wants Lana.

Anyway, she's gone and I'm glad I never have to see her again.

wow the lana arc was NOT that bad. i dont think her being on the show affected anything, for better or for worse. sometimes i think u guys just like to hate.

nahhh that couldnt be it...

edit: as much as i love kristin kreuk, and as good as their goodbye was, i think it deserved more. i actually wish lana was killed. i think it would be necessary for clark to evolve. plus i want to see the tom welling we saw when she first died again.

Recent episodes have had a lot of inconsistencies and just plain bad writing such as when Lana said she couldn't find the bomb and Clark quickly discovers it on the roof (not to mention it glows so you could see it even from outside).

Season 8 has been fantastic up to, I would say Legion. Bulletproof was solid but more or less felt more like a filler episode. Power was also alright (minus the Lana parts) and Requiem was just all over the place. Killing of Lex like that (if it was even Lex) was kind of generic and the whole Lana getting a super powers was also done before.

Aspects of the Lana arc were good (including her training) and aspects were poorly written. I didn't hate the actor but I felt that a lot of the story arcs Lana has had over the years were very poorly done and we all got tired of seeing Clark's mushie Lanaships expand into his adult run.

Now that Lana is gone, I am eagerly looking towards the future of Smallville in homes that they can salvage this season with some strong episodes that feel more closer to the Superman mythology.

The last couple episodes reminded me of some of Smallville's worst moments while episodes like Legion reminded me of just how amazing Smallville can truly be. I just don't understand why the writers and producers have not pushed for a Lois & Clark relationship more yet considering those are suppose to be together.

Lastly I wish that the writers would work on closing some of these loopholes as well as quit making writing mistakes. Season 8 has had many many writing mistakes and just plain odd story shifts and I don't quite understand some of the stuff going on. One episode Chloe was telling Clark not to hurt Lois and the next episode she is promoting the Lana/Clark relationship again. It's just so inconsistent and this, hopefully will change. A lot of these problems ironically seem to be centered around Lana Lang like a bad luck charm.

For everyone else on the fence about Smallville, I read like half the script for the next episode as it's leaked online and it sounds like it could be just as big of a deal as Legion was. That episode will air on March 5th after the month break.

Chili Con Carnage!
Man I laughed pretty hard at Tom Welling trying to look heart broken, he looked like he had wind.

Thank god that's over. Back to the good Smallville please.

Smallville producers leave Smallville to head Melrose Place (like a horrible nightmare coming true):

Here comes the neighborhood!

With Smallville producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer now officially installed as show-runners, The CW at last has revealed who'll be moving into its remodeled Melrose Place next season. (Well, they've revealed the characters at least; the roles have yet to be cast.) As you'd imagine, there are some familiar "types" among the tenants.

Smallville Season Nine: Still Likely, Despite Departure of Swimmer and Slavkin:

"Smallville" fans needn't fret that the departure of Swimmer and Slavkin spells the end of Clark and Co. While the show has yet to be renewed for a ninth season, sources assure that a greenlight for more is likely. And with Swimmer and Slavkin gone, the show's other two executive producers, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, are poised step in as show runners.

The first producer shakeup wasn't that bad of news considering most of season 8 has been solid but can it survive with the lost of yet more producers? Lets keep in mind that producers usually only write like one or two episodes. So this may not have as big of an impact as you might think (thought they are generally responsible for show direction).

Eh, they've still got two of the four. They should be fine. And it will probably be the last season, so there's no reason for them to not go all out and make the whole damn thing epic.

But seriously CW? Fucking Melrose Place? Uh, isn't the 90210 remake a disaster?

Also, please up the budget for Smallville's final season. Come on.

90210 fucking SUCKS, and this is coming from somebody that watches Desperate Housewives. The acting + writing is just so horrible.

aww, that was a pretty touching goodbye. I liked the most recent episode, and this whole season in general.

So can someone please remind me...where's Jimmy in all of this? We haven't seen him since the wedding/Doomsday episode.

Agreed and to me, that's super lame. Lana should have died and that taking place would push Clark to being the Superman he's supposed to be. Sigh.

Starcity(?) with Lois after he was attacked and almost died from doomsday. Why the fuck isn't his WIFE not with him? Who the hell knows.

Lana leaving was sort of sad, it's starting to set in that the show is coming to a end. I've invested 8 years of watching this, which is more then any other show. I'm definitely hoping for the 9th season, because the show has been getting really good again. Whatever happens though I'm sure the show is going to have some sort of awesome ending.

Because it's Smallville. Horrible, life-altering events from the episode before are quickly forgotten in the next episode. Hell, Clark was over his dad dying in the uncanny scan of one or two episodes tops. Still, it's been that way since the beginning.

TV Guide Megabuzz 2/10/09:

We were led to believe that this season of Smallville would feature a huge story arc involving Lois. To date, I have yet to see that occurring. Do you have any information indicating that the rest of this season is heading that way? — Jim

MATT: I agree, Jim, it's time to finally address the elephant in the room (that is, Erica Durance's conspicuous absence from recent episodes). Here is what executive producer Brian Peterson told the Buzz: "Lois returns in a big way [starting Feb. 12], as she finds her feelings for Clark increasingly rivaled by her quest to get closer to the enigmatic Red-Blue Blur." Hey, it's something.

Definitely good to see. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition and help make us all forget about the Lana arc.

Eh, the Lana arc wasn't even bad. The hate just comes from her character being there in general, as her character arcs have sucked in the past. But the show was still solid.

I would have liked doomsday to have killed her though. It would have given Clark a much stronger reason to kill Doomsday rather than just "Good Kryptonian vs Bad Kryptonian". It would have shown how powerful he really is too actually killing someone with the strength of Superman.

I do agree, but I have a feeling they may be saving that for Chloe. : (

Just finished the episode. That was great. And I uh... definitely teared up a little at the end.

Well done Smallville. Sending Lana out on a not-annoying note.

Also, the return date for Smallville (and Supernatural) has been pushed back a week. Here's the new schedule:

2/12 #8-6 "Prey"
2/19 #8-7 "Identity"
2/26 #8-8 "Bloodline"
3/5 #8-10 "Legion"
3/12 #8-15 "Infamous" NEW!
3/19 #8-16 "Turbulence" NEW!
3/26 #8-17 "Hex" NEW!
4/2 #8-18 "Eternal" NEW!
4/9 & 4/16 Repeats - To Be Announced
4/23 #8-19 "Stiletto" NEW!
4/30 #8-20 Title Unknown NEW!
5/7 #8-21 Title Unknown NEW!
5/14 #8-22 Season 8 Finale - Title Unknown NEW!

Also, rumor is that there was a "really exciting big thing for the longtime fans" planned for episode #20 or #21, but that it might now be pushed back to the season final, episode #22.
