I actually like the combat but I'm playing on the hardest setting which is why, the game gets boring on the easier difficulties. I think its better than average, not worth 60 but underrated. The game is a solid 8, and maybe an 8.5 because it keeps with Star Wars canon.

Really enjoying the game. Was really happy with it and was thinking FUCK THE HATERS while everyone was bagging it. Until this came along....

Opened up this at the end of a level to make sure I got all Holocrons. AND IT SAYS I HAVE NOTHING. Oh yeah, and DEFAULT TEXT is my objective. This shit is inexcusable.

So I kept playing, but, after being totally swept off my feet by the battle with
PROXY / Darth Maul
on
Imperial
Raxus Prime, I ran into this rather annoying game breaking glitch - can someone confirm if this is a glitch or not, if possible?

Basically, after taking the lift, I'm stuck in this room. There's heaps of noise outside and there's what looks to be two different doors on either side, but none of them will open. The generator looking things don't react to my lightning either. Heck, I tried the elevator and it's not even at the same level as the ground I'm on, and there's an invisble wall preventing me from going there.

Also, the cutscene after I killed
PROXY
was totally crap. Galen just walked away - is that what's supposed to happen? Seemed so weird to have no dialogue.

Anyway, here's pics of the room for reference. Any help is greatly appreciated. Each pic shows either end of the room. Are the doors supposed to be automatic?

So, is it "safe" to just delete my game from the HDD and then just do a quick runthrough. I really wanted to finish this! =(

You should be able to force push either door and continue going.

About the level not registering -- I got the same screen at the end of the final level but I don't know if it will impact the holocrons achievement.

WOw, I swore I tried that, but I'll give it a go now. Man I hope it works!

About to beat it on Normal difficulty setting on the PS3. This is the first game where I would have to complain that the people reviewing it didn't have time to "practice" when specifically talking about the use of powers Game has a steep learning curve and is skill based more than a game intended for the mass market should ever be. The few enemies that have shielding were never a concern for me as I like the Sith Flurry :D

I eventually got to the point where I would walk into the room pick up three storm troopers toss them out a window a split second later toss a crate at the legs of two others tripping them up and jumping into an electrical arc combo on the rest all seamlessly :D Once you "get it" some of the seamless combos were just WOW! I once jumped into a group of 5 enemies and spun the saber around in a combo killing all of them, I still have no idea how I pulled that one off. :lol

The bosses were not great or well thought out and the camera was horrible. I liked it, the main character was really cool and it capture that star wars feeling in both look and feel much better than I expected.

Where'd you find that screenshot, Nemesis?
I found it on another Star Wars messageboard when looking for help regarding my "glitch". I don't know why the image is missing now.

Just finished the game, fucking whooped
The Emperor's
ass. Felt so good too, I've been wanting to do that for ages. I still feel a bit lost with the lack of closure for so many characters, as well as the lame
death of Starkiller
.

I found Starkiller to be a really likeable character. I was expecting something that was heartless and cruel based on his appearance in Soulcalibur, but in reality his appearance in Force Unleashed was so much more light hearted - I forgot I was playing as a Sith sometimes. Just the interactions between him, PROXY and Juno was top notch.

Yeah I really wish
there would have been some torturous death because that was completely lack luster. After you whoop the emperors ass, I get shocked several times BY THE EMPEROR, get force slammed a ton by Darth, then to just die like that? Fucking come on...

However I really did like what they did with the death. How they tied all the movies together. Fucking epic. So pumped about it.

After you all beat the game check out the graphic novel. Its a nice summary of what you just went through. :D

I agree with this to an extent ....there is certainly a steep learning curve to getting the controls down to where reactions are pretty much motor-like ...but the thing is this is supposed to be such a mass-market game, couple that with a camera that you have to baby-sit soooo fucking much
...I still like the game alot, but yeah these are rather large flaws

Well, i finished it on the lightside ending this time, overall i think the dark side ending is better.

My first playtrough was on the highest diffeculty available and in total i only had the game freeze on me once, it was the same place as your screenshots Nemesis556. On the top of that buidling.
My brother who has the ps3 version(i have the x360) has a lot more glitches, including a 2 minute slowdown.

The gameplay, i find overall very fun and diverse. Lots of moves and powers to upgrade, which has sometimes been the reason i was able to defeat a certain boss.
It's also challanging enough on the highest diffeculties, were lots of enemies can overwhelm you. And once you are in control of the moves you can do some pretty amazing stuff.
I gotta say, i understood why there was no dismemberment in the gameplay, but i was quite dissapointed that nothing at all gets dismembert in the game. Not aliens, not in cut-scenes,qte,ect. This seems really strange cus even in the movies there are dismemberments so why not in cut-scenes?

I definitely liked the extras, in praticular all the different costumes, i find it quite boring when playing with the same looking character trough the whole game. My favorite costume is the one you get from the dark side ending, badass.

The graphics are imo very impressive, sure all those different engines running together can cause glitches or actions you didn't intend to do, but overall they work quite well and i do miss it from the ps2 version.
All the different worlds are impressive and i like that we get such diverse locations, enemies.

Ost, overall i like the new songs created for this game but i really hate that they use the iconic songs from the movies at the worst possible moments in the game.

The story is my biggest dislike about this game,
Starkiller is such a gary-stu character, i mean he was raised with the darkside, was a cold blooded killer, yet easily finds redemption. The movies constantly express how breaking free from the dark side is almost impossible and Anakin himself was only able to do it after 20y + the help of his son.
Also not explained is why Galen is so powerful, being born of two jedis isn't a reason otherwise Yoda(had the second higehst midiclorian count.) the pimp would have had 10 jedi wives to impregnate.
And the injuries he survives are so over the top, pierced with a lightsaber, thrown around the room and then into space and he's at the brink of death?

Kota and the rest of the jedi are the sorryist bunch of jedis i have ever seen. All they did when i found them was piss me off, Kota's arrogant, acting superior attitude. Same goes for Shaak Ti and that little gone-pschyo jedi. They always talk how they are going to own, kill, defeat me. It's only when i kick their asses that they start to respect and fear me, not to mention try to sway me from the darkside with some half assed fortune cookie line. Unfortunatly Starkiller falls for it.

Bail Organa is also a loser, his comparing Anakin to Maris Brood makes him such a douche, talking about how he knew someone like her. Yeah, while politicians were being controled by Palpatine, the jedis were fighting on the battlefield for those believes and democracy ,Anakin Skywalker was one of the greatest heroes of the clone wars, Maris is a nobody.

Sidious and Vader also come out looking as first class losers, in that they were indirectly responsible for creating the rebellion. It also cheapens the the rebellion from the movies cus now instead of human, aliens and all races came together to fight back against evil and the empire, it's simply cus of some wannebee jedi. And they were figthing without the foce, just regular beings fighting evil.
I understood why Starkiller was able to defeat Vader, for one Vader has thaught him his whole life and also Vader is a shell of a man, if it had been Anakin Skywalker ROTS, Starkiller would have lost.
Sidious in both endings is superior to Starkiller, in one he holds back in the other he doesn't.

When asked about the love story, i would say, what love story?
There's absolutely no development, the best description i have read is someone saying it seems like they only hook up cus he's the only guy and she's the only girl around. Not to mention he didn't get any, now probaly Kota is gonna bang his girl while Galen looks in from the force and screams: "NOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Overall the story is just utter crap, and i really hope that they use future Luke Skywalker as the main-character in the next game.

While the story did let me down and annoy me, this is still a great game.
My rating:8/10

Beat this baby a few hours ago on the Wii. It felt so good when powers are upgraded. gonna go through again later for dark ending.:D

EDIT: Damn at all the PS360 glitches. O_O

I just beat the second Jedi. I pushed them into a wall and he got stuck. Killing him was rather easy :lol

Damn, the camera feels worse as you play more.

Just finished it up PS3 last night and I agree with pretty much everything you say here. The game did have a few glitches in my playthrough, most notably when
the Emperor got stuck in the energy field, causing the game to lock up
. I liked one of the later conversations between PROXY and Starkiller, I don't remember which level it was after, but PROXY had just finished channeling
Vader
and tells Starkiller he hates being him, to which Starkiller replied that he thought he did too.

To whoever mentioned complaints about the
Jedi being weak
, I think that was intentional. Aside from Shaak Ti, it's not like Starkiller was facing off against Yoda or Obi Wan, these were B rate characters who slipped through the cracks during Order 66. If you think about it, Starkiller didn't even truly beat
Shaak Ti, she sacrificed herself much like Obi Wan does against Vader in A New Hope
.

It wasn't a perfect game, but it was enjoyable and to me at least, felt like Star Wars.

I'm on the fourth level (the mushroom kingdom) in the 360 version and I'm liking it so far. It's looks pretty amazing (there is some tearing, but it comes and goes and isn't terribly distracting). I find the controls fine and have had no glitches/crashes so far, the upgrade system seems pretty cool so far. Fun action game, nice music, we'll see how it holds up as I move on.

Wonder what the breakdown is

I can only assume its something like

360
Wii (or PS2)
PS3/PS2
PSP
DS (always slow burner sales)

Star Wars®: The Force Unleashed™ Sells 1.5 Million Units Worldwide in Under One Week

Becomes Fastest-Selling Star Wars® Game of All Time

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – September 23, 2008 – After less than one week on store shelves worldwide, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is on track to become the best-selling Star Wars game of all time. LucasArts today announced that more than 1.5 million customers worldwide have purchased Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, making it both the fastest-selling Star Wars game and LucasArts game ever.

Released on Sept. 16 in North America, Sept. 17 in Australia and Southeast Asia, and Sept.19 in Europe, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has demolished LucasArts sales records around the globe in record time.

Sales figures are based on the first five days of sales across all platforms worldwide.

Although LucasArts shipped more than 4.3 million units of The Force Unleashed around the world in preparation for the game’s launch, unprecedented demand has led to the manufacture and distribution of additional copies.

“The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. “We’re blown away by the response to the game.”

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force and casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice,” unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy seen through the eyes of this mysterious new character, who is armed with unprecedented powers.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the first next-generation game developed internally at LucasArts, and is available on the Xbox®360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

LucasArts and developer Krome Studios have created an equally enthralling version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the Wii™ home videogame system from Nintendo, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, and n-Space, Inc., developed a version for Nintendo DS™. All feature the same storyline, with opportunities to unleash the Force in devastating new ways.

I am so irritated right now.

I'm at the level where
you have to bring the Star Destroyer down. I got it in the "BRING IT DOWN" pose once, but now it just doesn't work anymore. It keeps being red with the two sticks standing neutral... HELP!

You have to keep trying bringing the Destroyer to that position, i think the speed you destroy the tie fighters in also matters, cus otherwise the Destroyer will keep going to the side too much. And also even tough it might not look like you are making any progess, the Destory is coming closer. If the two sticks don't change to "pull at you" then just let the Destroyer hover right in the middle, by then the next group of Tie's have arrived for you to quickly destroy. Or you can also even try to bring the nose down into the middle even tough it the sticks don't say it, it might change on its own. But most importantly, get the destroyer to the middle

Use the
Star Destroyer
as reference, not the sticks. Make it point directly at the camera or slightly down and keep it there for a few seconds.

I beat this last week. Now that I've had time to reflect on it, I'd say I'm pretty happy with it. It was fun for the most part, and it had a decent deal of challenge to it. Story was kind of corny(especially the ending and the love story, ugh), but it was still an interesting story.

Yeah, I like it quite a bit, although it's too bad most of the dev team is already gone from the 360/PS3 version.

LOL, how many times do we have to correct this exact same sentence in this exact same thread?

Not true. This was a rumor that has been debunked by us numerous times.

I rented this out last night. I'm about an hour into it at the moment. Its not too bad, not as bad as people seem to be making out. Its also not great.

My biggest problem is that saber combat is essentially useless and acts nothing lie saaber combat should.

Oh well. Jedi Outcast is still the king (It even does the whole force power thing better than this game).

I'm over these games now it seems. It would take something really great to get me interested again. I think they should just make a Jedi fighting game now. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed SCIV and the star wars characters in that. Just make that all with Jedi and Sith thanks.... Also, ad a realistic mode that makes it a lot more technical and deadly like those old Bushido Blade games.

*EDIT*

I think this could have made a much better TV Series than a game.

If you could point me to where this was debunked outside of a message board post (i.e. no members of the Force Unleashed team were laid off), I'd appreciate it. Also, there is nothing in this thread before your post debunking this or correcting it as far as I can tell.

i finished the game on 360 today and i really liked it.
but the bugs are annoying:
-in several cutscenes i had missing sound and sometimes the cutcenes stopped for 1 or 2 seconds
-in some levels i had some really bad visual bugs (shadows dissapear, textures missing)
-had to restart a level 3 times because of a glitch
-my 360s disc drive had a really hard time with the game: it was louder then normal, sometimes, during the cutscenes it stopped reading the disc.

good game, but it needs a patch.

Nobody ever said no members of the TFU team were laid off. What I'm telling you is that the entire team did not get laid off, and, as we've said publicly numerous times, LucasArts is committed to internal development.

I never said the entire team got laid off either, and what you're saying does nothing to substantially debunk the stories that circulated in late June. No worries, though, you've got a PR job and you've got to do it.

In any event, I'm up to the fifth level and having a great time.

I'm not LucasArts PR but I worked on the TFU team, though I've since left LucasArts (of my own free will!). You said "most of the team" was laid off. Most of the team was not. Not even close to most of the team. How many times does this need to be said?

How's anyone supposed to debunk these constantly recirculating story of the TFU team being fired?

I'm in the same situation here (Hi Dogbert! Don't know who you are but I hope things are going well for you too).

Most of the team was not laid off, and I'm not sure why we're required to provide evidence for that when no evidence was provided for the assertion in the first place. A good chunk of them have moved on to other internal projects or left the company voluntarily though.

I've been trying to debunk the stupid rumor since it was out but noone listens. Tis the internet after all.

That was a hugely buggy pile of shit. I'm never playing it again. Only reason I finished was it was for review (360).

I can't even remember how many times I got stuck in walls, or better yet sliding off a rock into oblivion. The QTE system sucked bad too, seemed to pop randomly out of nowhere.

Huge problems besides that, obviously the game never had a chance to get finished.

Story, acting, art direction were all aces, it's a shame the actual game ruined everything.

I'm not sure which story makes the company look worse, widespread dissatisfaction among the employees or mass layoffs.

I think they figured that a really good physics engine somehow equals instant fun. I absolutely hate this game. In fairness though, I rented the Wii version. Who the hell thinks waggle QTE's is a good idea? I hate QTE's in general, but twisting the remote in odd directions is just stupid, and I never knew if I was doing it right (I usually wasn't). Bleh.

BTW, why are QTE's still in games at all? Does anyone like them?

My feelings exactly. I heard there's a comic though, so I might pick that up instead of forcing my way through the game - as I also found the story interesting.

OK, finished this now. When it all works it's very nice, but things break down far too often. There are so many bugs & glitches (had two crashes and two cases where a boss fight broke and I was forced to restart, and this in a relatively short game). The game basically felt unfinished, it needed another 6 months in development. The reused planets added to this feel also.

Story was a bit up and down as well.
I liked the idea that Vader created the Rebellion as part of his Emperor-killing plan, but then it turned out this was the Emp's plan all along (with that slightly ridiculous scene at the end with the Emperor going 'I hope those rebels don't defeat us in 3 films time').
And how did we end up on Cloud City? Starkiller sets course for Nar Shadar, level starts in a bar (and Nar Shadar is filled with bars with secret Jedi) yet you get outside and there's Lando's future pad. Missing cutscene?

I did appreciate
Jar Jar in carbonite
though. Well done on that one. :lol

I checked out the comic after beating the game. The game's presentation is better. Just play it on apprentice if you only want the story.

Just wanted to put that out there again, as I played the game some more and am annoyed by the mandatory QTE's needed to finish most bosses (why can't I just saber them to death?!). Anyway, does anyone actually enjoy punching in random buttons in a set amount of time so that some mini-cut scene can play out? I don't, and I really see no use for it in games.

Ephemeris said:

Thanks for the warning. Though I think I may just pop into a Barnes&Noble and read the graphic novel for free.

I might have just found an area in a videogame more ridiculously frustrating than the spinning blades of annoyingfuck in God of War: the very FIRST part of the
Death Star.

Holy fuck what a crock of unfair bullshit. Parts like this is why I usually play through a game for the first time on the easiest setting, because this doesn't require skill at all, just luck and patience. Hey I know, instead of coming up with fair challenges, let's just throw every single goddamn enemy in the game at the player at the same time.

Fuck this shit. Seriously. I'm liking the game a whole lot, partially because I'm a SW fan and partially because I actually DO think it's a really good game, but fuck this part.

And about the QTE's. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that they're so poorly implemented here. You can never tell when the QTE is going to activate, and when it does you're usually pounding the fuck away at something and it SUDDENLY appears with no warning and before you realize it, presto, you've hit the wrong button!

Ugh, I finally finished it. I'm glad it's over. Wasn't worth $60.

Pros -
Nice graphics
The story was interesting
Force powers are nice when they let you use them
Nice soundtrack
Nice art design

Cons -
No character development at all. Maris Brood is the worst of it. I can't think of any reason that character is in the game.
Glitches - Ranging from getting stuck in the environment, sound issues, and in the final battle after I died, the game booted me back to the Xmb.
Bad camera
the platforming was annoying
generic level design
clunky unresponsive combat
terrible boss battles

TFU wasn't worth the wait or the hype. 5/10.

I beat it earlier today.

PS3 version, played on Sith Lord up to the Star Destroyer part, got sick of it and switched it down to easy to beat that stupid part, then went back to Sith Lord.

Combat was fun, but some stuff was frustrating, like how slow Starkiller was to get up when knocked down.

Sucks that there is no way to play as Vader except that first level and no way to play as Maul at all.

Load times were ridiculous too. Dying got very annoying when it meant a 20 second load time for a checkpoint.

Combat was fun, but some stuff was frustrating, like how slow Starkiller was to get up when knocked down.

This was the reason I switched to easy mode for the final battle. I'm one combo away from beating Palpatine when he hits me with one of those electric crates. Before I can stand up, he hits me with all 4. One after the other and I couldn't do a damn thing. And boom I was dead. So frustrating.

clunky unresponsive combat
terrible boss battles

TFU wasn't worth the wait or the hype. 5/10.

-She has a skimpy top, assless pants, and fucking retarded tonfa-lightsabers. What more reason do you need?!

Stupid, shitty character. I agree.

-The only glitches I experienced were random pause mess-ups. I would pause my game, but the actual pause menu wouldn't load, so it would just freeze everything, but I could rotate my camera and everything. And once I hit start again, it took me to the pause menu like it should have the first time. It was actually kinda cool, since both times it happened, I was in the middle of some combo. That, and I got stuck in a random scenery object once.

-I had no complaints about the camera at all. If anything, the lock-on system was wonky. It should've been a "lock on to nearest target", not "lock on to some random thing in the general direction I'm facing".

-No complaints about platforming, level design, or combat. I felt all three were actually pretty well done. Especially the combat.

-I had no problems with the boss battles, either. Most of them were decently enjoyable. A bit repetitive, sure, but not bad. The
PROXY "boss fight" was pretty fun.
I wish I could just do that whenever I wanted. Which, come to think of it, is a strange option not to include.

5/10? No. 7 or 8/10, maybe.
