So, does anyone know the rules, regarding character selection, at EVO? Is it one character for the duration of the tournament, 2 characters, or any character for each match?

You are free to choose any character at the beginning of your match. All matchups are a best 2 of 3 games. For games 2 and 3 in the match, the winner of the previous game in that match must keep the same character (and mode/order for MvC2 also). The loser however is free to change.

Here's a link to the player guide with the complete tournament rules...

Probably only behind Ryu in having the easiest ultra setup in the game. Fuck Rufus.

Rufus has the fuken easiest ultra setup: HK > ultra THAT'S ALL he has to do. not to mention his j.HK xx ex snake strike takes out half life and the god like ex messiah kick.

anyways, enough ranting. saw yeb's gen video on xbl and he owned that blanka. nice job.

I love knocking them down, hopping over, hopping back, then biting on wakeup. They're then in the same position as before. LOL. Do it again if you want. If they fell for it once, who knows! :) Or hop back on wakeup. The number of Ken ultras I've dodged doing that - made ever so funnier because you just see the hop start before the fireworks go off so you know you've escaped. He drops to the floor, bite. LOL. LP normal, rainbow or vertical ball to electricity as they're getting up reaps rewards - when they figure you out, revert to longer range and slides. Oops, knocked you on your ass? Wakeup game again!! :D To be honest it shits people up so much if you walk up to just out of throw range and crouch before they wakeup that they often throw something random out, which usually ends up in... bitings!! Which obviously pisses people off, but that's to be encouraged as pissed off people do stupid things! :D

Blanka is so awesome. There are so many ways to bait your opponent. LP rainbow ball to electricity wakes most Boxer players up for example. They just can't wait to come charging in :) Jumping near, then back when just out of range can draw someone in, and since you're jumping back you're charging... it would actually be rude not to unleash a ball of some sort as you land, or maybe an ultra! Oh, launching the ultra as they're jumping in on you. Magic moments, it brings a tear to the eye. Make sure you hold on to those punch buttons to catch them on the way down, they love it when you do that!

I also like that he's not exactly the combo specialist. So to win you can't just get lucky a few times and unleash a massively draining combo each time. You have to catch your opponent a fair few times to win.

The best thing about Blanka though is that you're moving your character around all the time. Why throw fireballs when you can throw yourself? :) When you get into Blanka you're pretty much moving non-stop A few half pauses here and there to disrupt the flow and predictability, but overall a blur of feints or punishment. Raooooooooooooooowww!!

I feel bad using Blanka. He's too easy, it feels cheap. It also makes for a boring match far too often. When playing against someone who knows the matchup, they know most of their moves are shut down so it becomes footsies and chip contests. I think Blanka is the worst character in the game and one of the least fun to play actually. I only use him against Akuma icons/titles--that's fun :lol

I used to main Blanka and whenever I play against him, I knew NEVER to use EX projectile when you think he could have been charging. Also, whenever he has his Ultra meter, keep a good distance cuz that thing does INSANE chip damage :lol

Right. So no fireballs. No jumping because of a variety of blanka's attacks. No cross-ups because of elec. No standing because of river run. Well let's poke for 99 seconds and see who can chip the most damage. zzzzzzzzzz

I'll cheerfully eat an ex ball with Dhalsim. Usually ends up with Blanka taking worse in trade. Rainbow balls? Even better if I have super or Ultra. Ultra doesn't matter thanks to teleports etc.

Does end up pretty much being a pokefest, but he doesn't take enough away that I have to stand there doing nothing but chip damage.

My favorite trick against Blanka is if i'm Akuma and I think they're charging, I'll do hadoken xx FADC backwards. 9/10 times they'll ex ball this, it's like they HAVE to lol. Anyways, I'll block the ball due to recovery from FADC and get a free SGS in :)

Played around with the cross up a bit tonight. its pretty fucking awesome.

It really can stun people and does great dmg and jacks with peoples minds. It rarely hits meaty since they are shoryukening or jumping but usually the j. HP gets in while the standing FP usually doesnt. I'm also loving cancelling it into Dash + Tostada Press. I can't cancel and dash into slide.. I dont know why but it just seems so god awful hard?

But yea I stunned an Abel in 2 consecutive rounds with this and mixed in some sweeps and propellers to get the stun.

I need to maybe do J. FP and then Lp Lp Lp F. MK and see how that goes

Also found a really easy way of setting it up. Just Tostada Press then after you get up.. just jump at him normally and hit the FP a little later and it will always cross up. Or at least 90% of the time.

finally finished cammys last hard trial. this was one of the biggest pains i've felt in videogame history. my hands just weren't up to that for some reason. just a few left.....

fuk do i hate people who use turbo button.

haha. I got all my bp with blanka and the turbo button. They shouldn't have put it in the official game pad if they didnt want us to use it. I dont consider it cheating or wrong really, I mean it's officially sanctioned. =)

Damn, just got to G2-A despite me fooling around with other chars. (go Dan!)

Not sure what to do from here on. Pushing for G1? Most of my opponents are between 2000-3000 GP, lots of flowcharting going on lately. :/

Or staying around and air taunting the shit out of Sagats.....hmm

Or pushing to G1 AND air taunting the shit out of Sagats! Yes, thats it! Go me!

So, I had no idea Blanka could stall his ultra. It's so amazing spinning your tires, having someone begin to walk towards you and then see them eat the ultra.

oh it's definitely cheating, it does not force you to make a decision to either electricty on wake up or defend because you don't know what the other guy will do. it's a lot harder to hit 5x punch manually then hitting turbo if you don't know a cross up/jump, throw or attack is coming. you have to guess instead of hitting one button.

eh, I don't use turbo and you can get out electricity via pianoing even just two buttons on a standard controller really fast. With 3 face buttons I can't think of many situations where my tactics would actually change if I used turbo. It basically amounts to having to press the punch you want twice instead of once.

A wakeup jump in/cross up is generally pretty obvious that you can pull it off regardless.

Cheating? maybe, but I don't think it really offers any kind of significant advantage.

Just played the top player of here again and man, FFFFFFFFFFFFUCK DHALSIM

8-0

I wasn't able to take a single match off of him. Frustrating but awesome at the same time.

How is it cheating if it's on the official controller licensed by Capgod?

OK that's it. No more Fei Long for me. Just punished a Balrog player during one of his normals with my ultra.....first hit connects....the rest gets blocked? WTF? Why does he even have that damn ultra? -.-

not impressed by Seth videos, it's Marvel baby that's all I have to say to this character that should be banned

Sure he's a combo-machine, but he gives out weak damage - and what he gives in 10 hits he gets it back in 3...

I still don't think he should be banned at all...

I don't think he should be banned either. I just think of him as Dhalsim on crack.

His stun combos are a bitch though. But I respect them because they're not easy to do. Honestly, if I didn't play QisTopTier, I'd absolutely despise Seth. But his is a lot of fun to play against, and he's GOOD. damn good.

I never use turbo, but then I tried it in the challenges. :O

man, it just easy modes you through some of the difficult links. thank god, I'm only in there for the completist whore in me, I'm never going to actually use half that shit so I'm not interested in learing the retarded timing. You must have to be a fucking metronome to manage that.

I'm going to pick a new character to main now. got to 4000GP with blanka and he's great, but I want to have a second go to guy, I'm OK with ryu but thinking about getting into bison instead. I have such a battle against bison as blanka so might round out the game a bit.

Also, for players that play fuerte, I can totally see why now :lol I went to player match and was hitting random all the time, got fuerte 2 times. He's like controlled chaos with all that running. He's just fun to play. Maybe I'll give him a go.

dash left? just pull the stick, it's easy. pushing away to the right I find to be harder.

Told ya! The thing is golden! :) Definitely adds a lot to Fuerte's mix-up games.

Next things I need to do on my checklist:
* get used to j.HP, s.HP, slide combo (I still mess this up a lot)
* if j.HP whiffs, don't do s.HP, and try to throw someone just blocking or punish whiffed anti airs.
* if opponent starts to dash out or block cross-ups correctly, start using tortilla propeller or slide to mix things up again.
* after a slide, do a run back immediately to cross-up jumping fierces (need to gauge the correct distance here)
* try to time an ultra on someone dashing away from a whiffed j.fierce

Gotta try this out when I can.

I think the greatest thing that makes this so easy is the perfect spacing you receive after a tostada press.. its literally dead on for a jump and then a deep j. FP

Its great!

I'm not sure why but why is the slide so freaking hard to cancel yet something like a tostada press is so easy to do .. I just will never understand. For now I'm just doing j. FP, s. FP, Tostada Press.

Seems to work well everytime. Sometimes Ill EX Run into the press just in case or Ill do cr. MP after the S. FP then Press.. Goes so fast that they can't react sometimes.

EDIT: I need to try j. FP then LP LP LP then F+MK ... I think it would be a sick combo especially for people who are dead set on charging.. because F+MK is 100 stun.

Rufus can land it off j.HK and his target combo of s.LK, s.HK. I don't think either are as easy as Ryu's anti-air SRK > ultra. He can still do it even if it trades. Bullllshit. Same with Sagat. Hell, he can do it off anti-air f.HK too, right?

Man I wish the Ultra can fully hit, then Fei would be totally awesome.

Same thing with Cammy.
Well the last hit of Cammy's barely adds any damage. The animation is neat though.

Getting hate mails with Dan is a weird feeling. This is sooo wrong and sooo awesome at the same time. :lol
I hope you weren't the Dan who kicked my ass yesterday! I fell for every one of his dragon punches. Saikyo power overwhelmed my fat man. :( I lose a lot to the 2000 GP shotos. They're my weakness!

Gonna try that cross up jumping fierce in championship mode tonight. Never really did it in champ mode last night.. did it in player matches.

I'll probably get screwed over tonight trying it now.

The more I play SF4 , the more I see it as a good first effort that needs revision. I'm going to look forward to Super SF4, unless they add something stupid.

Changes-
they need to tighten up DPs.
Nerf Ryu/Sagat/Balrog
Buff Fuerte, but take out RSF
Buff Guile, but nerf his air throw
add some blockstun to medium/hard level normals
Maybe allow people to store up 2 Supers
add Adon
give Ken his roll back

I don't complain about Gief, then again Honda vs Gief is the matchup where Gief has to use more tools then any other matchup (it's even or slightly in Gief's favor, but it's a fun matchup if the Gief isn't a robot, and Honda is a good test of Gief's actual skill)

It's so hard to do the RSF online. :lol I can get 5 hits in training mode but the most I can get online is 2....or I'll either hit and and the fajita by mistake, start the run instead of the hit, or just stand there punching the air. lol I've been trying to get it off of a FA. But whatever....Fuerte is my toy character for now. I don't think I'll be taking him into Championship anytime soon (unless I don't mind losing).

I need to learn a new character.. I guess Gen is my 2ndary but thats only because he has easy cross ups and I can cancel into Super on a cross up like nobodies business..

Not really about buffing him, but does Guile have the least special moves? They've never given him any more. I don't know what else he could use or even need, but it seems like everyone else got extra special moves along the way since SF2:WW except him.

And Rolento please :D

I had someone do that do me. I couldn't believe the shit was happening :lol I was almost positive that no character could chain an Ultra off of a combo.

ETA: Went into training mode, and I guess I was wrong. Sagat can do it, too. Can any other character do it?

Ken can do it, too. Maybe I just got some bad info or something :lol

Ok, so I recently got this game and started playing it today with my sister haha. Both of our first times playing so it was pretty weird for us..we just mashed buttons for a good hour and a half haha.

But seriously, I'm on the 360 and I don't understand the Command List AT ALL. Maybe I should look into the manual as to what those symbols mean >_>" Also, what do you guys recommend as the Control Scheme? I was using the default A, then changed to B for a bit. Is there a good one out of the three, or is it better to go Custom?
