It could be worse. One dude locally made his gf go out in a fetish outfit for at least 1 tourney.

What in the hell. A girlfriend....that would do that....at tournies with a bunch of dudes? Man, I need to get out more.

Blah, I'm bored.

If anyone on XBL wants to fight all of the female characters in the game, specifically Sakura, Viper and Rose, holla at me. USVI STAR is the tag.

And by anime porn, did you guys specifically mean hentai or any anime/manga characters?

i think i'm finally kinda figuring out the gen matchup with guile -- just forget about keeping flashkick charge, go easy on the booms, move around and throw out appropriate normals. gotta love both versions of stand fierce in that matchup

Hey thanks!

I'm guessing you are the boxer I ran into yesterday on SF4 PC that messaged me? :p

Small world!

You can rest easy that I played another Champ that night with a higher point total so the replay is gone ;)

BTW Great boxer if you are playing on a keyboard.. I can't even fathom playing on a keyboard with Fuerte.

What's funny is that I also own the game on PS3 with a TE FightStick, yet sometimes I still prefer to play with the keyboard instead. Its just so convenient just firing it up while I'm already on the computer.

If anyone wants to get any games in on PC, my Gamertag is jeffreylai12.

Keyboard Power!

Exactly right. Can't even count how many guile's I've eaten up due to their overwhelming d/b charge fetish. Gen's too quick for that.

Are Akuma's specials unblockable? Seems like anyone who plays Akuma can kick my ass since they always have an ace in the whole: a special I can't seem to block.

Also, is there a way to see your record or is it just battle points?

thanks

Yep. He tells me I'm decent. I get some morale up. So I come back and turn on my system and go winless in G3. :\ Timedog, either you're honest or playing a really sadistic, evil trick on me.

Can anyone help a noob. I have a couple questions: 1. What is FADC'ing? 2.How do i do it?
and 3. How do you deal with block happy shoto characters?

FADC = Focus Attack Dash Cancel

Focus Attack = MP+MK or FA macro

Dash Cancel = When you focus attack, just dash back or forward to cancel the FA

Example:

Ryu: Do a Shoryuken that will connect(blocked or hit), press FA button(or MP+MK), dash forward. If he blocks, try to throw him. If the SRK hits, hit him with a Ultra. If you have no Ultra hit him with a EX hado or EX Tatsu. If you have no more bars then you just wasted two bars, but people do this all the time to perform a safe special move without the fear of punishment.

Hope that helps somewhat.

So no Japanese presence at Evo except for NKI in SFIV and Daigo/NKI in HDR Remix? Way to take the hype out of it. What happened to Poongko, Mago, Iyo and Daigo participating in SFIV?

Any word on a Evo stream?

One question...

Is the Street Fighter IV Fightstick worth it? Is it good? Just before I place my order with Amazon =)

(posted this also in the BB thread so I get answers from both sides!! I guess the stick would do well with MVC2 and Tekken right?)
with sanwa mods it's frikin gold.

SE I mean. the stock parts were OK. the buttons feel dodgy, mine didn't break but I modded both within a week.

Also works great with anything on a computer that could possibly require an arcade stick.

Hey, thanks, but is there any specific timing involved with the shoyuken then FA attack?

I think the weak and medium versions you FA on the first hit (immediately after it connects). The strong version you FA on the 2nd hit. If you FA the first hit of the strong version the opponent doesn't get launched in the air.

Are you effing serious? That's so fucking LAME! :(

Also, I took all the advice I read! I'm going to take it all one step at a time... from what I gather the biggest thing I needed to work out right out of the cage was:

1) No random SRK/Dragon Kicks
2) More c.mk xx hadouken (or EX hadouken)

So here's some results from earlier tonight, still didn't win any though but.. one step at a time is my goal! Hoping we can just improve slowly as we go :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7tqbsdCA9o (Vs. Sagat)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-RfgC-UTvE (Vs. Gouken)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QEmrNs3haM (Vs. Sagat)

Things I will try to improve on for next time: GET THOSE C.MK xx LINKS PROPERLY!!!! You'll see I land a bunch of c.mk's but follow with a hadouken too slow which they block and then punish me :(

Hehee.. any advice is tops ! :)

Fucking valle is in my HDR bracket :| haunts is in my sf4 bracket too

Dude be glad, you probably have one of the easiest sf4 pools lol! If I went to evo, I'd kill to be in that one. edit - just noticed Watts, ouch!

Now your HDR bracket, GOOD LUCK! Valle AND Ryan hart? At least ur not in the Daigo pool lol, sucks for those peeps.

If you wanna here about a screw job, 2 frenchies came down for soul calibur 4 (top players) and they both got put in the same pool, that's some shit lol.

If it's ryu, you do it right after the first hit of any shoryuken.

If it's ken/akuma, it's the same, unless it's a 3 or more hit srk, then you do it after the 2nd.

Also if the shoto is block happy then throw them.

maaaaan I got pissed last night...

playing as bison vs guile (fucking hate this matchup)

dude just KEPT Throwing me, as in, throw, walk up throw, walk up throw. I teched it ONE TIME. I don't understand why it wouldn't work. it was maddening.

then the dude did it for the 4th time, had me pegged as a retard so I thought wake up ultra he'll eat it for sure.

then he throws me for the KO.

Did I get screwed by hidden lag or does a throw beat out a wakeup ultra?!

Wasn't a total waste though I had some good close wins with bison that ended up relying on patience. Something my game has lacked I now realise. It's funny when you both have low life, if you wait, the other person online will often do something REALLY stupid.

I need to work on my throw/tech game as well.

Anyone explain 'option select' to me? If I hold d/b and push lp+lk right at the time somebody tries to throw it should tech right? And if no throw I should get a jab?

Did Bison do the GTFOH thumbs up?

If not, then lag.

If so, then maybe throw did beat it :lol I've EX FK'd and Cannon Spiked Bison's out of ultra start up. Bison's ultra has weird properties.

That is correct. You have to time it right though, because if they throw a split second AFTER you tech, then you get thrown, since your jab starts up, and you get thrown in the startup frames.

It's more of a throat-cut "u gon' die" motion.

I LOOOOOVE Bison v. Guile matchup. Your flashkicks don't scare me, Guile.

Yakisoba, I was actually watching your videos from yesterday on Youtube without even realizing that you post here. I'm also a scrubby Ryu, but I think I can help you out on a few things at least

1. Know your Ultra setups. You had many opportunities to Ultra in the matches I saw but didn't because you didn't know or your execution was off I guess. In the 3rd match against Sagat in the first round, you landed a jumping MP, that gets you a Ultra, which you didn't do. Then you landed a EX fireball at the corner, again that gets you a Ultra which you didn't do again. Let me just quickly list them in case you don't know

-LP SRK(when your opponent is jumping at you)
-Jumping MP(air to air)
-EX Hurricane(corner)
-EX Fireball(corner)
-EX Fireball(requires FADC)
-Any SRK(requires FADC)
-Air Hurricane(corner)

2. Try to play more aggressive. Ryu has a good fireball game but he's not the kind of character who can win against better players by trying to fireball them to death. You're better off with Sagat or Akuma if that's the way you want to play.

Now I'm not saying you should try to become some kind of rush king, but get in and get out at the very least. Start using cross ups and tick throws if your opponent is blocking everything. And avoid fireballs when you're opponent is very close unless it's unpredictable. I still have a very bad habit of doing this, it leads to free jump ins for my opponents.

3. Punish whiffs correctly. This is also a very bad problem of mine that I'm still working on. When a Sagat or Ken does a uppercut and you block or it misses, especially the fierce varieties, make them really pay for it. I was always just going for the sweep, throw, or standing HK because they were safe. But your hurting yourself by doing that.

Now when the opportunity is presented I try to go for crouching HP>EX Tatsu(if available). It's very simple and Ryu's most damaging 1-2 combo. I'm not that good either so for more advance tactics, maybe some of the others can make other suggestions or ones better then mine. But I hope this helps somewhat.

ah, ok, that could explain.

However, that dude last night screwed me with lag shit I'm SURE OF IT.

Noticed a LOT more ryus just doing the lp srk as well, it's almost bullet proof online. I beat a semi decent ryu last night and in the second and third rounds he just threw those things out every 2 seconds as soon as he stocked ultra. He hit me with one as well as I attempted to punish the previous one then I ate some ultra bullets.

how do you guys work in throws to your game? I get thrown a lot, however, when I try and do it it feels like I just eat a million jabs all the time, not sure how people get in to throw.

also lost to a cammy because it took me 2 rounds to figure out how to punish cannon drill cannon spike spam. Once I figured out it was a free combo for bison after a blocked cannon drill it was too late and I ate the last cannon spike for missing a link :(

I noticed a lot of uneccesarry(sp) jumping too, especially in the Sagat match. It was lucky that the Sagat was only interested in spamming fireballs and heavy kicks, most would Tiger Uppercut in to next week.

NO JUMPING.

Unless you are 100% safe or know you can land the crossup.

You can hit him out of it with all sorts of things, jump and hit him or just jump/teleport.

i think i saw a new ultra setup for ryu yesterday, actually against a pretty bad player -- his ex fireball traded with one of my jumpins and then he juggled me with his ultra. not very useful i suppose, but I GUESS RYU NEEDED ANOTHER ONE

You've received some good advice, but you shouldn't spam sweeps, then can be punished. If you do sweep and get a knock down, that's when you start your mix up.

After a knock down you have options.

Throw
Cross up - throw
Cross up - tick throw
Cross up - link or block string
F+MP overhead
Cr. MK - Hadou - Srk (Throw in FADC into Metsu when you improve)
Neutral jump

Mix and match these. I would personally focus on execution, and knowing the pros and cons of all Ryu's moves.

Then start thinking about your match ups and how to deal with them.

Also random jumps, hadous when opponents can punish, Tatsu from full screen all need to be eliminated.

I'd get rid of these personally, especially if they have 2 bars. Other options: hadouken from mid-long range, outside of ultra/EX SRK range. Don't do this against Chun or Abel from longer range if they have ultra.

Also crossup tatsu is safer than crossup MK.

OK fair enough, but you could be giving up the initiative you go back and throw and hadouken from mid-long range, easily blocked and you're looking for the knock down again.

Just saw this Gouken vid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quaFvlJIlXk&feature=rec-HM-r2

What's everyone's thoughts on the shoto master. I was looking at learning him but his lame ass pokes, and lack of anti air put me off. Plus his combos seem to corner reliant, and he only has 2 ultra set ups (well maybe I should go through challenge mode). Is he a viable character against your Sagat, Ryu's and Rogs?

CPS2

I just think they're too unsafe. You can eat something big from almost every character as they wake up if you use those moves. Meaty attacks aren't very good in this game, but crossups are very good after knockdown provided you're close enough. They're worth using against some characters though, such as Chun or Sakura when they don't have meter. Then you can bait them by walking forward, walking back when they do have meter. Anyone with a dragon punch though, I wouldn't try an overhead or cr.MK meaty.

I can totally see why you'd hate options on a character you're using... switch to Fei Long, that guy has nothing.

You remind me of a friend I have who played Ryu in 3S and also hates the SF4 incarnation because he's too good a character.
I think my friend solved his dilemma by just not playing this game.
