I keep hearing about this Jop dude, are there any vids of him? In terms of playstyle my fav Dictator player is Andre (Neurosis is awesome and not too flashy but Andre plays him very smoothly) but I like seeing how other people play him.

Maj I think the mystery about Ken's HP shoryuken is self contained moves keep the juggle property that they caused (first hit of HP shoryuken). So the second hit is effectively ignored since it's still "the first move", once you do the second HP shoryuken (2nd hit only), that move uses the 2nd moves juggle state.
What about Ryu's j.MP? You get a free juggle if only the first hit connects but not if both hits connect.

Bison's j.mp is strange like that too.

If you hit it once any one of his moves can juggle, but if you hit it twice only ex scissors/psycho crusher/super/ultra connect.

At SF4 he doesn't have any videos, since I don't think he's actually been to any tournies. We mainly play locals at his house and that's about it. He's mainly known for Tekken. he was the best Tag player in america for about 2 years, and by consensus had the most dominating legacy in the US in Tekken overall.. He's making a comeback in t6br, keep your eye on him!

With regards to play style, his offense is more devastating than Andres, but he waits for exactly the right moment to go off, playing really tight up until that point.

He's entering the Absolute Battle tourney in Dallas(sf4/t6) also, which we should be streaming live.

As some of you guys know, we have weekly tourneys here in Montreal. This week we were in a new venue - we used to play in a really cool bar/cafe type place but it was getting very crowded and such, so we switched places to a place that specialises in LAN stuff. It seems one of the co-owners or whatever really loves fighters and set up a place in another room in their spot with 13 Xboxes, all on dual-head setups, connected via VGA into 16:9 PC monitors.

The place is INCREDIBLE. We'll grab some pics when it's fully decorated and up and such, but it's amazing. Tonight we ran a 20 person tourney in under 2 hours, with lots of setups and stuff.

One of the best things about the place is it's dirt cheap. For an arcade-like setup, it's 4$ per station per hour. What we do is get a bunch of people there, split the cost between everybody at the end of the night and we're golden. It cost me 6$ for a good 5 hours of play, with LOADS of competition. I definitely see myself improving in a setup like this - it's like playing in an arcade for super cheap. :)

And I placed very nicely in the tourney! I beat a standard Ryu, a good Balrog, my typical Vega nemesis. This led me to semi-finals, where I lost to the tourney winner (the guy mains Chun and is a fucking BEAST - if you check my youtube channel, his nick on SRK and on there is Chi-Rithy). I got bumped into the losers bracket, where I won against the city's best Fuerte (it's a crazy amazing fuerte too!) - this got me going crazy since I almost never win against him.

Then I lost to one of the best Ryus in the city. Still, it's my very best placement in a tournament ever, getting to winner semis and loser semis. To think that at some point I almost wanted to drop the game...

Question: is there anyone else out there who prefers online to offline?

Seriously, I'd rather put up with a bit of lag then some of the local douchebags- which is why I dislike playing offline now.

Must suck to have local douchebags to play against. There's an arcade close by with SF4 and T6 but I never make it out there. The few times I've been I didn't run into any assholes.

There's a lot of douchebags online, too. The ones who taunt in the first round are the worst. You know they are garbage from the get-go.

It only takes one or two to ruin a scene. The sad part is the biggest douche is also probably the strongest player, and lets everyone know that. (If you see the Jibbo streams, it's the Rufus player) .

Admittedly, if I see someone flowchart stupidly, I will start taunting if I get a big lead.

hey wait, you're talkin about the NC scene :O

I'm new to it, but I met a couple people last weekend at gamefrog and they were pretty nice. I guess a lot of people were at the SC tournament, though.

Yeah, most of NC's players are cool. It's mostly just a couple, who weren't there.

The Lucky's tournies are usually better run, and have higher class of comp, but you gotta deal with said people. That + my work hours is why I don't like offline play much these days.

Safe lk SA is really reliable, it's a great meaty set up off knockdown. Also TKCS is reliable enough. Everyone messes up execution, hell look at Valle effin up srk fadc rofl. Anyways, it's not something that ruins her game at all, and the Cammy players I run with (who have better cammy's than Sanford imo) never mess it up.

Air spike isn't a crossup, but timing/spacing affects whether or not it connects which gives her more mixups.

@bolded part - throw! If you know they're mashing jab to stuff your next tkcs, you can throw after a dive kick every single time also st. mp after dive kick crushes any any normal (including jabs) and lets you hit confirm into cr. short/strong xx spiral arrow.

Cammy's not S-tier, she could use a few tweaks here and there, but overall I think she's perfectly fine and easily capable of winning tourneys (which she has.)

Alright, FMF you win. I'll be incorporating these hot tips into my game this week. Although, I'm pretty sure jabby balrogs are hard as hell to punish online, even with TKCS mixups. I think that mentality carries over into my offline game :( but thanks for the tips.

Damned, I raged last night to the 10 power. This Sagat that I played 5 times was getting the best of me with some basic ass tactics. Random Tiger Knee, wakeup Ultra's, and spammed Tiger Uppers thru my block strings. I have never been so pissed off when playing online on SF4.

The sad part was I knew I was better than him and I was eating knees to my face repeatedly. I called him the "f" word once I relaxed and served him something vicious with my Rog. Then, the bastard stops playing me once I beat him.

I love this game/franchise to death, but it can really test my dedication to it.

I got killed by a Flowchart Ken with a wake-up Ultra THREE STRAIGHT TIMES by the same person :lol I don't know how I kept getting hit. The third time, it was chip damage. I KNEW he was gonna do it, but little did I know that you get hit more than once while blocking Ken's Ultra. I could sustain the first hit--which I was prepared for--but not the 2nd one. :(

It was hilarious

LOL, this is how I am every time I play, I rage like a maniac. It's mostly just screaming and cursing, but man I want to destroy things every time I lose because of different reasons like execution, lag, scrubby/predictable tactics and so on. Not that I'm not guilty of doing those things myself, I do plenty of scrubby things, but when I'm on the receiving end of it I just want to put holes in my wall. When I get really out of control I hit the part of the wall with wood behind it(don't know the name) to avoid holes and I once broke a table because of raging from the ownage I received in COD4 :lol

Trust me, I'm easy youtube material, worth at least a few thousand views. But I'd rather avoid that kind of attention.

well that was discouraging, when I made it to 9000Gp I switched from Blanka to Bison.

that was probably around 80/90 hours ago and played bison exclusively to 130k GP. I almost NEVER make it to finals and usually fail if i do.

after getting a round of beatdowns last night I switched back to blanka for a bit and won 8 games in a row (2 finals)

GREAAAT. Think I'm done with bison, his weaknesses screw me over (getting crossed up to shit and chased down)

I went 4-13 against a really, really good player. All matches were best of 5.

His Balrog: shut my shit DOWN! (fuerte)
His Bison: *see above* :lol
His Chun-Li: Devastatingly good.
His Cammy: very, very tight matches. Did a lot of stuff that you see in the trials.
His Rose: Extremely good, but I got a win in. In my winning match, I pulled off "HP xx HP xx HP xx Super". I was so proud of myself. :D It was basically my way of saying, "Yeah bitch...I'm good, too!" lol (1 win)
His Fei Long: Also incredibly good. I picked Guile and for some reason, my mediocre Guile was able to kick his ass (3 wins)

I really hate how I'm never able to pull off a Focus Attack cancel and then a successful block string. Maybe it's just Fuerte's suckass Focus Attack but whenever he did it (with any character), he had it perfect. Maybe he just knows the timing better than I do.

I also played a Ken who I thought was cheating. Either that or he was psychic. If ever I gave the slightest hint that I wasn't blocking, I ate a SRK, every single time. And whenever I did block, there was no SRK....not even a SRK FADC. Or maybe it was option select? My knowledge is pretty limited on that strategy. Nonetheless, it felt like I was playing the CPU. -_-

Is it just me, or are there a lot more people playing Abel recently? I fought 8 fucking Abels in a row tonight.

On that note, Abel is an annoying motherfucker to fight when there's a lot of input lag.

You don't drop Bison, Bison drops you.

Pretty much everyone I knew who has tried out bison has ended up dropping him. He can feel pretty damn limited when fighting a player that knows that all his specials can be stuffed in one way or another, and despite being able to dish out pressure (not as easy because of his reliance on long tight blockstrings that can be mashed through if you fuck it up) he can't take pressure at all. Its either you keep on your game the entire round and make no mistakes, or you lose. Simple as that. Bison doesn't really get second chances that much.

Most likely right now I will be switching to DeeJay when SSFIV drops, but for now the best I can do is keep using Bison because I put so much freaking time into learning him.

Jump in all day, that's what I'd do. Free srk if you block CoD, blocked wheel kicks are unsafe, grab rolls, etc.

I tried using Bison, but man, the timing of his block strings takes some adjustment which requires me to double tap every single input. And then I thought to myself, since I main Chun, why pick a secondary with equally shitty anti-air options :lol

Fixed. Abel has pretty poor crossup defense. Intentionally fuck up a block string to see if they are going to ex TT you or not, if they do then crossup then neutral jump then start your combos

Play good Abels and see if jumping in is a good idea :)

Blocked wheel kicks are unsafe if you're playing a shitty Abel too - good Abels don't RH wheel kick from mid-screen :lol

The worst lag character is Blanka, imo. Without lag, his stuff is relatively easy to block, but with lag it's ridiculous.

And Abel does have crossup defense - jump back fierce is good crossup defense, so is standing fierce.

Baiting TTs also only works on shitty Abels who rely on it all day - it's a risky endeavor because if the Abel knows you're baiting them he can just hit fierce and hit you when you're up, then it's back to the guessing game with him having the advantage.

If you're thinking of cr.FP, it's not exactly the easiest to time. And while cr.MK works nicely (probably better than cr.FP), it trades more often than not.

cr.FP is actually pretty easy to time once you get used to it. Online is a bit more difficult, but look at good Abels play (Rico Suave, Busta, etc) and you'll see it's not that hard to land, plus it leads to good damage (ultra or cod -> ex fs combo).

cr.MK only trades when it's done too late or with bad spacing.

Standing MK also works. Standing close fierce is also a good AA. He has a few options, it's just that most Abels don't know how to use them properly (or can't use them with lag, which is the case with me and cr.FP). Offline, I land cr.FP ALL THE TIME.

Leunam

Member
I guess I should have said that he doesn't have something he can use on reaction, besides maybe cl.FP since it comes out pretty quick.

Standing MK is good, but I've only ever gotten it to work from a distance.

Abel's anti-air works, but online sure kills it. Miss one barely and get a combo right in your face, and then you have to deal with Abel's shitty wakeup options.

Unless your opponent is being predictable, screw that. ;/

Yeah, standing MK is only good at a distance (like Rufus' standing far fierce).

c.mk is the same speed as c.fp, it just has more active frames (5 instead of 4). c.fp's problem is that it's SLOW as hell, especially when you want to land the 2nd hit, so you have to time it right, which depends on who you're fighting (landing it against Gen is pretty much impossible, but insanely easy on Chun and Bison since they're spending 409742387320982370827 hours in the air when they jump). It's also pretty easy on Rufus players who get in using dive kicks, since they typically start with a rather high one. Since they briefly stop in the air when they do their dive kick, if they don't time it perfectly they're getting a c.fp AA every time.

Abel has more serious problems than AA, like slow as molasses normals. Seriously, there's something to be said for a character when his fastest normal is standing close fierce (4 frames, same speed as his standing jab, but faster than all of his other normals).
