That is what I thought... so why is Sony dead because of the reviews? I can't keep up.
It's not that I think it happens, it happens, especially with AAA titles. Don't see this as "here we go, another fanboy" please, it's something that I'm actually noticing. There's a reason (2 actually) in my opinion but I prefer to keep it for myself because I don't want to feed flames.
Few examples from the review threads here on GAF: Driveclub 5 - 9.5 | Infamous 6 - 10 | Killzone 6 - 9.5. It doesn't happen with titles like Resogun or Guilty Gear Xrd or many PSVita titles, check for yourself.
At the same time on the other side, Halo MCC 8 - 10 | Forza Horizon 2 7 - 9.5 | Sunset Overdrive 7 - 9.
Not even particular titles like The Wonderful 101 has such a wide range, if we ignore a 3/10 from a site no one ever heard about (try to guess what they were trying to do), the range is 7 - 9.
Most of the times this is due to a lack of understanding and judgment, like Driveclub is old (?) or it's not open world (??) etc. Now, by my quick reading of the reviews, they're doing pretty much the same with TO: it's linear (so?), it's cinematic (so?) and this:
I can only suggest to give a shot to this game. Borrow it if necessary, play it and make your own idea free from preconceptions, possibly, but to rely on reviews is a bad move.
It just shows that they've already invested a ton in this game and it's entirely too late to not be committed to it.
How about these so called "insiders" stop hyping up games they don't even know about? saying people will eat crow and shit like that.
I have nothing against shinobi but he was one of the big mouths when hyping up this game so he could at least come in here and say something.
It's odd seeing people deflect a poor showing by saying something to the effect of "Well [completely unrelated game] is still bad," when those games seem to have been better received.
Back to review responses though, I like the tone of the Escapist writing. It hits the negatives without spending so much energy bemoaning the situation. They talk about disappointment being a factor in the review, but it leaves a comfortable niche for the point of view of people happy to enjoy a game with (heavily) adjusted expectations at a reasonable price.
Will The Order age better?
Sony tends to get -2 review handicap because they don't strong arm publications and don't have the money to sweeten their relationships with them. Then there's the fact that they tend to be very hands off, and use their IPs as loss leaders. If they're not, all the better.
EA and Ubi have the deep pockets to market a mess of a game and find friendly eyes at the big sites. Not everyone does though. A better context would be they actually get a +2 handicap
I just finished Ryse a day ago,I liked it....that probably has half the amount of cutscenes & QTEs this game does thoughPS4's Ryse.
Was kind of expected imo. The game's not for everyone. I just hope it'll find its audience and that it won't flop.
My guess is that it'll end up as a cult game with lot's and lot's of fans.
I gotta say, this is a really weird juxtaposition to see. I know they have nothing to do with each other...doesn't make it any less weird, given the money and time investment in each game.

Heh, seems like a good deal then. Some of the best steaks i've had have been $20 or less. I look forward to eating this steak someday, for somewhere around that price.
I mean on the upside we know RAD is capable of games with good gameplay, they have in the past. And we know that having the engine in place means the next game if they are smart and want to can really focus on expanding the foundation they have in place for the gameplay and making into something compelling to play too.
Let's just hope Sony's anger at the low scores The Order is getting and consumers reaction to seeing these scores (pre-orders cancelled) won't mean Ready at Dawn is doomed to be unable to ever get a second shot at it.
But it's a PS3 remaster...with that logic the could make an Uncharted 2:Remastered too...
That's the problem I have with these types of games. Where's the game? How do mechanics not matter first and foremost?
Or unless it's a Naughty Dog game? Or Bethesda? Or Rocksteady? Lots of games hit 90, they just have to be good enough to do so.well, that is just metatcritic for you...a conglomerate of some of the most critical minds in the industry.
That is why it is so rare that a game makes 90+ (unless your Nintendo)

Why do the stands always (seem to be) taken against Sony-marketed or Sony-exclusive games?
Where was the stand taken against Halo: MCC about how that launch was completely unacceptable?

As expected, a visual masterpiece, but crappy in everything else.
Another 6/7 First party game. Sony should demand more effort from its internal teams. They cant depend all the generation of naughy dog and Druckmann.
Well, this is a review thread. The game has an OT when gameplay, among other things, can be discussed.

Excellent, now this is the kind of completely delusional, batshit crazy, teary-eyed denial conspiracy theory that give the whole thing that additional flair of the dramatic - at the cost of some junior's account, sure, but here at GAF, we're willing to take that one.Sony tends to get -2 review handicap because they don't strong arm publications and don't have the money to sweeten their relationships with them. Bravo.
I'm definitely tempering my expectations, even though I usually tend to agree with GAF impressions more than reviewers. I'm still going to play this game for myself and write up my detailed impressions on it.
Sony's marketing this game hard. I don't think that shows a lack of confidence.
65 on Metacritic right now, almost approaching Ryse. Seems the games media hate the whole 'cinematic' 'qte' 'linear' thing anymore.
Surely it depends on sales? Destiny got slated but has still been a resounding success, same goes for Watch_Dogs.
Beefy said:We don't know if the sales will be bad or not yet tho.
People actually believe this shit too. It all really depends on sales, though. The game can get mediocre reviews but if it sells well, nobody will care that much.

This is way worse than expected. I think even Ryse had better scores.
Bon appétit!

Most of them? Including its sequels, I imagine.
Today? I mean it has aged like shit. I played it for the first time some time ago, didn't get far before I gave up on it.
