They aren't dumping them into retail stores. They have been building their record label since last year, and beginning with this years releases, they have distribution partnerships that allow them to sell them exclusively first, and then later release from record stores.

Besides that it was either a tweet, or a random article that said the delay in their releases was them working out the details of distribution, which allows them to make it into stores.
With this release they are moving in the right direction, giving you something guaranteed extra if you order from them. Having the exact same online release as in store releases was kind of silly.
Edit: From what I gather, there is still only one pressing of each vinyl, so once it is out of stores, it probably is really gone. The vinyls are definitely not as limited as some people think. But like you said, the limitedness doesn't matter, just the music.
