The psp, who is getting it? If not why?

I am one of these people that can't get one because of certain concerns. I want one so badly, but the battery life being low makes me sure I want to wait for the next revision. Mainly because I am such a lazy ass when it comes to recharging.

I'm not the biggest Sony fan around, but I'm gonna pick one up close to launch. It looks very cool and it's got at least a few games I'm interested in.

Does anyone know what the games will retail for typically? $40 or $50??

Ridge Racers? Sign me up... plus I have this (arguably misguided) confidence that more decent software will be on the way.

The battery life concerns me a little, but I'd honestly have it plugged in most of the time. I can't play while I'm driving (well... no... no, definitely not) and really don't do much travelling.

Not going to pick one up atm.

- UMD movies = bleh besides selection will be crap
- Nothing is really interesting software wise
- MP3 playback = i already have an mp3 player. a better one.

You're going to wait for the next revision? The one Sony's announced with the much larger battery?

Oh I see, you're pulling that out of your ass? OK. I'll get back to the official, big-ass, sticky, PSP thread up there ^

Definitely want one, but after watching those videos of the flying discs, I'm concerned about the build quality. I'll probably pick one up anyway, if just for that damned beautiful screen.

I'm not getting it at launch because there aren't enough games I want to justify a $200 purchase. Same reason why I don't have a DS.

Eventually I'd like to have both, but I'm not sure I spend enough time with portable games to justify two new portables. We'll see.

Well, they say that they are hoping htat it will last 14 hours in the future and with the replaceable battery, i am sure they will introduce a larger battery pack sooner or later that comes with the system or could be bought separately.

I'm not getting one because there are no games that interest me, and even if there was it's too expensive, and I think the actual system looks silly, not to mention all the problems with Sony hardware that make me paranoid.

Attack of the unknown junior posters!

I'm getting a psp at launch because I love gadgets. I dont give a fuck about battery life since i'll never take it outside. The launch software selection in japan was certainly superior (but not by much) to the DS launch, so the whole OMGG NO GAMES LOLOLOL argument is null.

I am tempted, but will probably wait a bit.

1) Battery life concerns. Perhaps it will be improved.

2) My track record with being disappointed with portables is not very good. See my "Satisfying portable experince?" thread.

3) THe software that really excites me won't be out for a while (Twisted Metal, Wipeout Pure).

I am.

Loaded w/ value if works as advertised.

The price is right.

I will definitely get one, but I'll probably wait for the white GT edition, if I can resist long enough :)
I can't wait to play Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racers, Lumines, Metal Gear AC!D, but mostly I'm interested in homebrew development. PSP mame, anyone?

I getting it, but I'll likely wait until next summer. Ridge Racers, Ys VI, DarkStalkers Chronicle, Bubble Bobble and Lumines are all on my wanted list.

Attack of the unknown junior posters!

Only because several junior posters happen to disagree with you? How convenient.

In anycase, I've been around GAF for a long time. Lost my account when the forum switched servers and never bothered to sign up again until recently when I actually have the time to read the posts.

You're the unknown junior poster to me.

All the nin10do fans will say no and all the sony fans will say yes. This thread is pointless, might as well walk down the street and start asking people there if they will buy it or not.

I already have mine preordered.

Even though I dont think it's the ideal handheld, I'll probably still get it at launch. I just need to confirm that the movie playback from memory stick works as advertised.

Hey guys, I think he's falling for our trap. All of our pretend posts about movie playback have gotten him thinking it really can play back moving pictures.

If it sells for $150, I'll buy one the day it comes out, no doubt about it. Otherwise, I'll just wait till something I really need to play comes out for it.

If the price is right I'll buy it and an extra battery. Don't worry, I'll afford it, I'm swedish and is used to really expensive shit, it'll seem like a bargain. :P

I have a Zire71, 40GB iPod, a DS and a PStwo.

I don't see how the PSP would benefit me aside from paying twice for PS2 games I already own.

u get to play all your favirote PS2 games on a portable :lol ... AGAIN

I might get a US unit for the hell of it to go along with my JP unit. I'm not gonna open the game region coding can of worms, since that's a touchy topic hehe...but having a US one also is like my backup plan.

Seems to me like some people need to read The "Official" Japanese PSP Launch Thread (NSF56k) which is stickied at the top of the front page. Then you'd have quick and easy access to all your answers. You'd know that yes, the screen is that good. You'd know the battery life (FUCKING FIVE HOURS). You'd know how to decapitate a man at fifty paces with a flying UMD.

Life has never been so good.

I don't have a lot of interest in the PS2 right now, though I own it. The PSP is nothing but a portable PS2 with no pick up and play software that makes handheld gaming great (apart from lumines).

Load times aren't what I want
Low Battery life isn't what I want

well you need a reason to dislike something, but you don't need a reason to NOT buy something.

(btw: if you have the time to read my other posts you'll know that I actually like PSP)

looks like common sense hit a new all-time low these days...

Not me.

Even though I want Ridge Racers real bad, I'm never buying a console for just a couple of games again(I made that mistake once already with the gamecube). There's pretty much nothing interesting software-wise, and I've never been interested in handheld gaming anyway.

I'll be selling mine when it comes in, make a profit. I'll buy one to keep when the battery issue is fixed and there is worthwhile software to play.

I'll probably get around to buying one around Christmas next year.
I'm primarily into console gaming so the Xenon is first on my buy list for next year. RidgeRacers is a great start for Sony's handheld,I'd like to see that type of momentum keep rolling for the PSP.

I'll get one at my usual 6-8 mths after release. I like to see what bugs the early adopters find before making a purchase.

I'd have gotten one eventually if the UMD had been rewritable. I have a moral objection to the use of memory sticks for large storage situations. It's like going back to carts, and while I do believe that eventually solid state media will become more cost effective again, we're not even close to that point in time yet.

I had hoped it would be the next gen MD, instead it's just the next gen flash music player.

OH NOES IT'S SOLID! EEEEW!

The simple fact that something is a solid state media or an optical media doesn't matter to me. Ok, in the portable market, it DOES matter, because of the battery drainage of optical media. But that's more of the problems that come with the media, not the media itself that I care about.

I'll be in line at midnight launch day, if I don't import first.

Reasons:

Hotshot golf
MGAcid
Ridge Racers
Lumines
Kollon
Puyo Puyo Fever
Puzzle Bobble Pocket
Vampire Chronicle
GT4

Right now I'm hoping a publisher is smart enough to pick up Lumines for launch day. I waited 6 months to buy the PS2 but the PSP has plenty of games I want to justify a launch purchase for me.

Reason why im not getting it?

Too expensive for me, and the games dont really interest me at the moment.

Same goes for the DS really.

try OH NOES IT'S EXPENSIVE AS FUCK! EEEEW!

Are you looking for a can't read tag? 'cuz I specifically cited the cost issue in my post.

depends on

1) how much they cost at launch [$150 = impulse .. $200 = maybe]
2) how much a decent memory stick duo costs [under $100 = impulse (under $100? yeah.. right... {come on sandisk!!})]
3) games that make me want to buy it [havent seen any yet, interested in lumines but its not a system seller for me (like wario ware ds is)]

I will probably buy one at launch with Lumines. However, if Advance Wars DS (DS Wars?) comes out somewhere around the PSP launch, I'll delay the purchase of a PSP for a couple weeks, and buy a DS+AdvanceWars/DSWars.

If Lumines isn't a launch title, and there arent any other games I am interested in (not a fan of racing games ussually), I might still pick one up at launch, depends how I am feeling and how much money I have at the moment.

Either way, I'll be buying a PSP next year, and probably a DS too.
