haha nice :)
There must be an event in tsw for this day, would be bad if not :D

This might be the "game world changing" stuff they hinted at earlier this year.
Ninja edit: have you finished the storyline? I need to do that asap.

Also I tried out SweetFX with TSW and it's glorious.

not nearly, i am at the start of the second desert area. With all the Pyramids etc. :/

ninja edit: i have the luxus of playing 1 year for free, no reason to rush through the game ^^

What is this "End of Days" stuff all about? Is it just an ARG thing or are they actually changing a bunch of stuff in-game?

The ARG seems interesting, but I guess it's connected to something that happens ingame. Would be weird for them to miss the Mayan end of the world stuff with the premise of TSW :)

Resubbed to check out the updates. I only played the starting month at launch.

- Starter decks are a great addtion, I really wanted these at launch. Makes you want to check out different playstyles and you get a nice outfit after finishing each one

- Camera sensitivity - thank you Funcom, Im pretty sure this has been added since I couldn't find this last time I played

- New investigation missions - some of the best content in the game, though I have to admit I could not figure out one part of Digging deeper and had to look it up (music/notes puzzle was too much =) )

In summary Im glad I resubbed, already spend hours in game. Really has a unique feel compared to so many other mmo's.

wow... TSW will be Buy 2 Play (Guild Wars 2 style)

http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=62789

What is now required to be able to play The Secret World?
Everyone who has purchased (or will purchase) the game can now enjoy the full game without being required to sign-up for a monthly fee. This means that all of the heralded story-line and all of the game content available right now can be played as you please without requiring any additional payment.

Are there any restrictions to what a free player has access to?
No. You have access to all the content available right now, including all playfields, all missions; you may enter all lairs, participate in raids, learn all abilities, use all equipment and so on.

What is a 'Membership'?
For those dedicated to the game there is an optional Membership available which also includes some great items and services:
'The Time Accelerator'. This clickable item increases experience gain for defeating monsters by 100% for 1 hour and has a 16 hour cool-down. This item can only be used by Members and Grand Masters.
$10 worth of Bonus Points given out every month which can be used towards any product in the Item Store of The Secret World (bonus points are valid for 6 months).
Membership Item-of-the-month gift (given out every month).
10% discount to everything in the Item Store except Content Packs or other Packs (discounts to the Item Store do not stack with other offers).

How much does a Membership cost?
There are several offers for different durations of a Membership. The current prices are as follows:
1 month 14.99 USD/EUR
3 month 38.97 USD/EUR (12.99 USD/EUR per month)
6 month 71.94 USD/EUR (11.99 USD/EUR per month)
12 month 119.88 USD/EUR (9.99 USD/EUR per month)
The EUR price includes VAT where applicable.

What about Grand Masters?
The Grand Master Lifetime Option continues to yield all the benefits given to Members and more! As a Grand Master customer you receive everything that Membership customers get, every month, lifelong. In addition to that we have increased the Item Store discount to 20% for everything in the Item Store except Content Packs or other Packs.

I already bought an Initiate Pack in December 2012. Why was that not free?
Anyone who has purchased the Initate Pack in December 2012 before the offer was launched, will be reimbursed with 1800 bonus points to their game accounts.

What will this discount in the Item Store be valid for?
What used to be a discount of 10% discount to only social items in the Item Store has now been extended to be a discount on everything in the store. As Members are getting a 10% discount to everything in the store, Grand Masters will receive 20% discount to everything in the store!

When are items-of-the-month given out to Members and Grand Masters?
If you are a Member or a Grand Master you will receive the items on the first patch day of every month (currently the first Tuesday of every month). If you are playing the game without a Membership, the item will be given to you immediately when you sign up for Membership or become a Grand Master. The first gift is available now and can be claimed through the Item Store.

Are the free Bonus Points for members included with the first 30 days of the game?
No, the monthly Bonus Points are only given out when additional Membership and/or Grand Master is purchased. However, by completing 30 missions you unlock the similar level of Bonus Points – so there’s a motivator to play. The client fee includes the full game (including issue 1 through 4) as well as 30 days of Membership. Until the end of December issue 5 will also be included for anyone with a registered full account.

Are there other motivators for new players?
Yes, in addition to the 30-mission reward, there is also the challenge of taking down the Ur-draug. He is the final boss of the first dungeon in the game, and being able to complete this challenge yields a special reward called “The Whispering Demon Ring”. This powerful ring gives a fixed XP gain increase for new players and is a great way for new players to get a feel for what is in store deeper into the storyline.

What happens with my remaining Subscription time?
Your current subscription will be automatically transferred to the new Membership program. As such your account will be credited with 1200 bonus points, you can immediately claim the Time Accelerator item and your Membership gift of the month. The 1200 bonus points will be credited to your account on Dec. 12th, 2012. After that you will get 1200 points every 30 days from your renewal of the Membership.

What about future content updates?
Periodically we will release packs of DLC (Downloadable Content). The main content in these packs will be a story leading to unique rewards/items through missions. These packs are fully optional and can be purchased for the Bonus Points that are included in the optional Membership, as well as with the points offered with Grand Master Lifetime service. Players without a Membership or a Grand Master Service can of course as well purchase new DLC content in the Item Store.

When can the first DLC content be expected?
The first DLC will start selling in January 2013, and is the main storyline of Issue #5. However, this content will already be fully unlocked for anyone who has a full game account registered before the end of December 2012.

Besides DLCs, will there also still be regular content updates to The Secret World?
Definitely! Regular patches with free content and updates and enhancements to the core game will continue.

i hope this will help the game.

Is in my Object Claim and i never see it before.

And wow, i have 1600 Bonus Points already :p

Might give this another go now, really enjoyed the story and lore aspects when I played in the beta.

Did the game get optimized any further? The beta didn't run great on my computer.

Me (and my little Pet :D) with the item of the Month

t4xDx.jpg

with LTA you will get 1200points, 20% reduced Cash Shop Pricess, 1hour exp boni per day and item of the month FOREVER.

So after you pay 600points for the DLC Patch every month there is still 600 points left, so you have more than before.

It´s already confirmed that the DLC will cost 5€, which would be 600 Points.

Just saw the new thread about this going B2P/F2P. I hope we can get enough GAF to keep the Cabal populated now. it would be great fun to do the new raid (and some dungeons I haven't been able to attempt yet).

Most definitely, I'm hoping for the same. I thin the B2P model will receive less ridicule than if they went for F2P for some reason.

As a lifetime subscriber, I still don't regret that decision. We get some cool things each month.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Now that this is B2P, I will probably look to pick it up in the future. What's been the best deal on the game so far?

Green man gaming has a 35% one-time use coupon at the moment, assuming you don't want to wait a couple weeks for an inevitable steam winter sale deal.

FUUUU the size of this game to install.

I only have a 60GB SSD and usually have Guild Wars and Civ5 on it along with my Windows installation. I've had to prune everything including a ton of apps as this installer just keeps downloading more and more :/

Thought I'd get to play this morning, but my hard drive had ran out of space and now it's downloading another 4.5GB.

My game directory size is 38,2 GB... good luck.

Yeah I've had to move some of the rdbdata files onto another drive and create a symbolic link to them in the Secret World folder.

I'll just have to be happy with having as much of it as possible on the SSD.

File size has bloated a bit because they added a significant amount of content since launch, in particular the monthly issue updates. Anyone remember what the file size was after the initial install at launch?

Hmm, around 30? They also did not implement a compression functionality yet, which is highly needed.

Booted TSW up for the first time today with the intent of creating a character and playing for a little bit to see what the gameplay was like, ended up playing for six hours.

The microsoft store over the crazy black friday sale had the retail boxes for $10. Super glad I picked it up now. This game is cool. The story is actually compelling.

Cool, it sucks you in :)
What faction, weapons? What missions did you like?

I watched all three faction videos and ended up going with Illuminati. Their intro made them out to sorta, kinda be the villains of the bunch and that was appealing. I was disappointed I couldn't name my character Nicholas "WickerMan" Cage, I had spent some time trying to make my character look like Nick Cage, but sadly WickerMan was already taken. So I hit random a few times, ended up with a dude who looked like Elijah Snow from Planetary and ran with that.

I don't know if the training mission is the same for all three factions (maybe? all three factions were present in the training simulation I went through) but it was the Illuminati training mission that just grabbed me. I loved the modern day setting with the supernatural bleeding into the normal everyday world. I really liked how they worked modern weapons in with more traditional MMO mechanics. Funcom had me at shooting eldritch lovecraftian monsters with a shotgun AoE speed debuff attack.

I tried out all of the weapons in the training room and the caster stuff is what grabbed my attention. Ended up choosing Blood Magic, which I thought was purely dps but it turns out the blood magic tree is a dps/healing hybrid which has worked out moderately well for solo'ing. Initially I spent a few ability and skill points on shotgun but as soon as I got the Blood Magic spell that I could use on mobs I started spending all of my skill and ability points on Blood Magic. I've maxed out the two basic, starting branches. Don't know if I should branch out more or not but given that you can only use seven active abilities I think I may just stick with Blood Magic. It's worked relatively well so far.

I think it's the combination of the modern day setting and weapons with the supernatural elements along with the different focus of mechanics and design that make TSW a really appealing MMO. It's a fairly unique setting and experience, not just for an MMO but for a game in general.

WickerMan may be not possible for other reasons ;) *cough*
If you have not already, check the starting decks on the left in the skill menu, they have some cool blood magic decks.
I recommend the two weapon approach, as the game is designed around that and some weapons work together pretty well.

Is there a GAF server or faction?

Purchased last night, will take a crack at this tonight

The majority of the active players were Templars. Now that the game is B2P/F2P, this may no longer be the case going forward. This isn't really a big deal since you can form parties and join up with anyone on any server, from any faction. Cabals (guilds) are faction restricted but other than the unified chat, faction bank, and PVP, there aren't many faction specific activities you will miss out on.

So I downloaded the free trial for the game recently and enjoyed it. A friend actually went and bought the game before the news about B2P came out. My question is this - do I still need to buy the game in order to play? Or is there something I can do to upgrade what I have already downloaded?

Wish I'd known about the decks sooner but I almost have my first starter deck, the Haruspex (Blood/Elemental magic hybrid). Won't judge the deck until I have the last two abilities but I'm giving up on my most powerful single target Blood Magic spell to use the deck. So far the only benefit is Blood Price (hp drain) comes up less.

Do enemies scale up or down depending on if you're playing a quest solo or in a group? So far I've done every quest I've come across and everything is either hard or very hard.

Edit: Looking through the character decks for the different factions, I think I might roll another character in a different faction. Probably Templar. The character build I have right now is only partially geared towards the two Illuminati decks that use Blood Magic but I have to choose between focusing on Fist Weapons or Assault rifles. Problem is both the Thaumaturge and Necromancer look kinda lame.

I'm downloading it right now after the $15 DD price from Amazon.

Where should I roll?

My advice would be to check out the faction specific Decks. Decks are TSW's approximation of classes, they provide you with a skill set build to aim for and also unlock your unique faction appearances/titles once you get the 7 active and passive abilities to make the Deck. Click through the Dragon, Illuminati and Templay Decks, see which faction jumps out at you the most. I went with Illuminati but after learning about the decks I kind of wish I had gone Templar.
