The Sly Collection |OT| Fly Cooper: Band of Deeds

Sly 4 NEEDS to have the original VA's for Sly, Bentley, and Murray. (Well, moreso Sly and Bently).

Carmelita needs to sound like what she does in either 1 or 2.

I completed Sly 3 just a while ago. I didn't get 100%, because I have yet to do the Challenges, but I'm going to start on that tomorrow. Overall, I liked Sly 3. It was funny, and fun throughout.

.

How long is it relative to Sly 1/2? I need to decide whether I have time to tackle it now.

Do you guys REALLY like Carmelita's Sly 1 voice? I hated it. Granted I don't know much about accents, but that's not how I imagine English with a French accent to sound. It sounds like Carmelita grew up in the mean streets of East L.A.!

Of course, I haven't played Sly 3 yet to know her third voice, but her voice in Sly 2 is much better than her first one.

Wee, I got 100% in Sly 3 today. Spent most of the day yesterday doing the challenges, and an hour today trying to beat them. The most challenging challenge for me would have to be the second Tsao fight. That bird goes crazy with his black magic hands and dragon heads.

Well, I don't really know the final time I put in, because my save file strangely doesn't have the time on it when I finished it. I do know that I looked at the save file before I finished it, and I had put 12 hours into it. I probably put in a few more hours, which would put the time I put in more than Sly 1, but a bit less than Sly 2. I had put around 7 hours and 51 minutes into Sly 1, and 19 hours and 40 minutes into Sly 2.

Did this get a limited release or something? I have a bunch of store credit at a local chain and none of them have it.
There's less Blu-ray printing factories than DVD so when a Blu-ray disc release gets unexpected popular there tend to be shortages like this. I've had a backorder with Meijer for a few weeks now. =(

Sly 1 refers to her as South American several times.

She just happened to work in France.

I'm thinking about buying this but with a backlog that includes 4 games that I need to start and platinum, I don't know if I'll have time for it right now, might as well wait until next BF :D

Just started part 2 yesterday, but I can say without question that Sly 1 Carmelita is much better than Sly 2's.

She annoyed the fuck out of me at the beginning chase scene.

Thanks. I like the sound of that, Sly 2 seemed just a bit too long. Might be that a couple of the chapter pairings (the 2 snowy chapters, the 2 gothic towns) felt a bit too samey in tone. A chapter could have been trimmed, or maybe two of the longer 2+ hour ones cut down a bit and I would have liked the game more. I still loved it the structure and the vast majority of the missions though.

Can I have impressions of people who have played Sly for the first time ever with this collection. I don't wan't impressions from people who played it on PS2 (as you people have the extra nostalgia). I am thinking of getting this and have never touched a Sly game before.

Just started Sly 2. I'm right at the part where I stopped last time(The dance with Carmalita Fox). This game is way easier now that it takes 5-6 hits to die and health is easy to come by if you are all smashie smashie.

Don't really like the Bentley or Murry parts, I would rather play as Sly.

Sly 2 feels like a product of Sucker Punch following the trends of gaming back then. As such, Sly 2 feels like it's aged much worse than every other game in the series.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
So as I'm playing through these again, I'm thinking... if Sucker Punch really feels the need to add variety to gameplay in Sly 4 by switching characters, then I'd rather play as Sly's old relatives. Some of their back stories are really cool (ninjas, cowboys, etc) and seem like they'd be much more fun than the turtle/hippo stuff. And it'd still be close enough to playing as Sly.

Flashbacks or something...

Well, in Sly 3,
Bentley did say during the ending that he was building a time machine

Playing Sly 1 for the first time, and it takes a bit of getting used to. Double jump works differently to every other platformer I've ever played; it's not that powerful, and without timing you don't get height at all. And one hit kills with how slow Sly is? On bosses too? No, Sucker Punch, bad. Very bad.

Look past the combat, though, and it's excellent. The length of the levels keep the pace going without wearing out a certain mechanic or design idea. Looking forward to playing more.

Why the hell has game got this down as £40 release. I have coupons and points to use on there but its £24.99 other places sort it out game.

I got sick while playing Sly 1. It was in the casino level, and I was jumping on the suspended dollar sign chandeliers that bounce when you land on them. The over head camera and the high framerate just made my stomach hate life.

If you get stuck in a spot and die repeatedly, the game gives you free Horseshoes to take an extra hit or two.

Gametrailers gave the game an 8.4, if anyone cares: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-pod-the-sly/707979?type=flv

Given my current backlog, I'm holding off for a bit. I figure more price drops are coming, but I'm definitely picking it up eventually.

The complaining about 1 hit kills in the first game was dumb. That's part of the reason the first game is the best. You actually needed to use stealth to take out enemies and could not just fight your way out of every situation.

I really don't think the Hub world is really a plus either. All it does is force you to waste time going back to the safe house just to change characters.

Made it to chapter 4. I really dislike the boss fights in this game.

you want them to remove what little challenge is in the game? And you can earn horseshoes during a level besides having them given to you.

I ended up scoring this for $17 shipped from Gamefly with their "Keep this game" deal and a coupon I had laying around.

I've never played any of the Sly games, so I'm looking forward to this after reading all the good reviews. Hopefully getting to this between GT5 & Dead Nation playing. Winter vacation can't come soon enough.

yeah, the health bar is probably my least favorite addition to Sly two

The one hit system worked perfectly for Sly 1, it gives you reason to sneak attack or avoid enemies. It ensured the combat would be minimal - infrequent but over quick when it happens, and that's exactly how I like it to be in a platformer. Plus, like the other guy said, it doesn't need to be an easier. Hope to see something similar in Sly 2.

All the bosses in Sly 1 have very simple attack patterns that are verry easy to avoid and counter attack and only take 3-4 hits to kill. The game also gives you a horseshoe if you die against them a few times. You can stock up on horseshoes before any level or boss you're having trouble with as well.

Sly 2 bosses are annoying because they take a million hits and it's just a free-for-all. You have to get right up close to them and they have a much larger attack range.

Please tell me chapter 4 isn't Bentley the entire way through

Okay so I finished all the master thief sprints in Sly 1 and just finished Sly 2 and while the graphics look great and its nice to have them in widescreen I am disappointed in some of the features they cut in these games. No commentary tracks in Sly 1, no headset support in Sly 2 and I'm assuming 3 as well, and the only bonus movies that will load on Sly 2 are the ones on chapter 1 and 8. The button prompt even comes up on the other chapters and it looks like it attempts to load but it returns to the chapter select screen. Also, if you watch the commercial outakes on Sly 1, it only plays part of the original movie.

These are really strange things to cut out of the game to me and especially disappointing because the GOW collection had none of these issues. They even included all the bonus videos off the DVD that came with GOW 2. Hell, I even tried calling the phone numbers they give you from GOW 1 and those still work. Still a great collection, just wish they had all the original features and bonuses intact.

Finished Sly 1 w platinum and moving onto Sly 2 great collection. As much as I though I played them all I cannot for the life or me remember Sly3.

I like the hubworlds, but the switching characters part is annoying. And traversing the hubs as Murray or Bentley is lame as well. I don't mind having to use Bentley or Murray in missions, but I think being able to access every mission start with Sly would be good. I guess that wouldn't make much sense though. But everytime I switch from Sly all I do is go to the mission and go back as quickly as possible because those characters aren't as fun to go around with (and they can't get around as easy).

same here, I spend as little time as possible playing as the turtle and hippo

here's hoping that Sucker Punch kills them both off in the start of Sly 4.

I haven't gotten to Sly 3 again yet, but that one is even worse from what I remember because there are even more characters to use (10 I think though no traversing the world as them and some of them are more like minigames). Still didn't like it though. Again I think the multi-part heists are cool and having sequences where you use Bentley and Murray are fine, but they really should focus a lot more on Sly in 4. Also, they need to include more levels like 1's as missions in the hubworlds. There are some little things like it in 2 and 3, but not as involved as 1's levels.

Also, I tried 3 of the minigames with the Move (I need to play Sly 3 to unlock one apparently). They are pretty forgettable, but I kind of enjoyed the helicopter one.

I was really enjoying Sly until I got to Haiti. Holy shit, I have never done a 180 on a game so fast. You just sort of start grinding backwards for no reason. Also, the mechanic of having to hit circle not to fall through a platform is the dumbest shit ever. I can deal with it while platforming, but not while fighting an enemy. Stand on vine, see spider. Hit X to jump, square to swing the cane, then you have to hit circle to not fall through the platform. Really close to giving up and jumping into the sequel. Never played the Sly games before but always heard great things. Hoping this is just an aberration.

Sucker Punch was too driven by what they thought was popular at the time and it ended up making those games age badly.

With inFamous, it seems like they've finally learned some restraint. Hopefully they'll apply it to Sly 4.

it's because you're hitting circle to land on a sparkly point isn't it? It's one of his moves, pretty sure that's around throughout the series. You'll get used to it, it's a very good and quick platforming mechanic when it clicks.

Can't you hit the spiders while still standing on the vines? Yeah I'm pretty sure you never need to jump and attack while on a vine. You have to jump to dodge sometimes but never jump and attack.

Just to be clear, for the platinum on Sly 1- anything you might of missed can be backtracked correct? There is no "point of no return" right?
