The state of NeoGAF

I see close to 200k members on this site. Which community left?

You see the same people that say the owner of this site != community call the prominent folk that posted here a lot but moved away "the community". Why is that? They are not. Noone is bigger than the whole community and calling this an exodus is rather laughable. Other and/or new users will replace them in no time and things will go back to normal. It's been always like that everywhere and it will be like that here too.

What fascinates me are the people who suddenly feel the need to shitpost on their way out. If you consider yourself a decent human being, take your bag and leave if you chose to do that. It's telling.

Like I said it's the honeymoon stage, if you really think it won't be used for profit you must be kind of gullible. None of the events warranty this kind of obnoxious response especially since these events started by a fucking facebook post no one knows if it's true or not.

What really sealed the deal was the mod team leaving. The mod team left due to systemically poor handling of all kinds of shit on his part. The allegation is just what people are pointing to, but it's not the actual chief reason for why everything went the way that it went.

Strange there's over 4000 people that just joined it's been a really respectful community.

In comparison I can't count how many times I saw people talking SJW, cucks, etc. here over the last few days. Strange.

I'm pretty sure when the mod situation gets sorted, that type of name-calling won't be permitted. Right now, most of that is from suicide posters and is falling through the cracks.

Guys it's just a fad. Surely the thousands of people who left in the last 2 days and are settled in a new home will all come back en masse. Any day now.

Tbh, I'm not sure if I want all those grotesque spam posters and extreme leftists back.

The last interaction I had with some leavers was that I'm anti-women and moderates are evil. That's the real toxic attitude that plagued GAF topics throughout the years.

The idea you're not "pure" enough.

The number doesn't mean much compared to how dead the front page and OTs are. And how most activity is just people asking how to leave.

Banned and inactive users are counted in that 200k number. Try marking the forum read and see how fast the sections fill up compared to how quick things used to go by.

What makes the community isn't the bulk. It's the "community leaders", of which most left. They're the ones that made shit happen around here.

Also, banned accounts, or inactive accounts are still included in that number apparently.

Well as has been mentioned there are definitely not 200k active members on this website. And if you look at the activity over the last few days it certainly does not reflect a particularly active community. You're right though it can be repopulated with more people.

There is a difference between thinking you are owed and thinking that appreciation would be nice. Or are you just still in burn mode?

Yeah.

That person didn't contribute to this forum. out of my 10 years here, never seen that username in my life.

200k members doesn't mean currently active, and the active community that contributed to what made GAF what it is today is gone. We've all left.

So, you know, keep making these assumptions on what you think you know.

It's been days. Give it some time. If you feel there is a better place to hang out thats fine too. I don't judge. Multiple tabs and forum use is an option too. :)

Well, the 200k are burner accounts, banned members, pending members, members who haven't posted in years etc.
When people talk about the exodus, they're talking about some of the more active/prominent members leaving. For example: My entire Destiny clan from here is registered on the new site.

As for the rest of your post, I can't disagree. It'll take the remaining members to lace up their bootstraps and try to fill the void that some community heads or OT creators left behind.

Thanks for mentioning, using the same username here so I hope they approve me.

What are they asking for? I don't have paid e-mail anymore and I've never had a Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat/MySpace/whatever account before.

They frantically accepted every pending account. I wonder how many of those are banned.

Where are the tons of people you see posting? In the last 30 minutes, there have only been about 300 posts on NeoGAF, 1/3 of it in this thread. Meanwhile there have been 10,000 posts on the other site.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking that even those banned arent still reading gaf. Everyone is still glued for the most part.

Open Registration is allowing use of a free email for the time being. Will be limited to paid emails after a short while.

Hate to say this but if you're an example of the members going to the new forum, I think I'll stay put. Yikes.

Enjoy the growing portion of people staying behind that are experiencing a renewed love of words like "SJW" and "Cuck."

Not everyone is leaving. GAF is bigger than you think.

Yep, it's really big, apparently there's a lot more gamergate trash on here than I thought there was. I guess the owner of the site turning out to be a scumbag and getting rid of places for people to criticism him under the guise of "no more politics" was enough to embolden them.

It’s ready boys! Tyler can eat a dick, along with the fucks that stay here.

Ditto, err maybe not the fucks part, although people gotta decide if they wanna stay on here and continue to contribute to Tyler Malka's bank account. But anyway, I'm out like shout!

No assumptions, but the truth.

I've been very active within the anime/manga TL scene as someone who was involved in releasing things in the late 90s/early 00s, but neither me or anybody I know is involved in any form anymore. And those were people who created and shaped the scene before all the websites and whatnot appeared on the scene we have today. There will always be people who fill the void and thats a good thing. Hell, when I started lurking and signing up here, some of the members today were still going to kindergarten which now make OTs, post meaningful stuff etc., but some people don't seem to realize that.

I wish you and everyone the best, but calling this place dead because a handful of content creators left is rather silly from my point of view.

After discussions among the staff and with the community we have decided that we want ResetEra to be a truly fresh start. We'd like to look to the future and leave any baggage behind. Towards that end we ask you not to post any threads about NeoGAF or its owner and avoid linking to the site. This is in no way an attempt to shut down free discussion, but instead a way to avoid unnecessary complications with other parties. If you must, there are other ways and venues to express yourselves but please get it out of your system before coming to ResetEra. We have a great opportunity here to build something new with a blank slate. Let's press reset!

Hopefully that lasts. I’m looking forward to people getting it out of their system on this site to be honest. It’s making these forums terrible.

The ultimate irony is people are shit posting with explicit gifs and language because the forums are toxic...Yet they’re the ones making it toxic...

Content contributors will be replaced but until these toxic posters disappear the site will be a little shaky...

The new forum is open so there’s no reason to stay here now and shitpost.

Since I posted this post, that site has had 6000 new posts. GAF has had about 200 new posts.

To be quite honest, if this here dies I will stop using gaming forums. It maybe true there may be a thriving spiritual Neogaf elsewhere but I started my time with gaming-age and I consider Neogaf part of that history...

A new place though...I don't know...I witnessed how it went down over the weekend and I think that just soured my appetite for spiritual successor. It may be better, could be awesome there but I am ready to let it go if this doesnt work out here and it isn't too bad as it will mean I will actually have time to play my games.
