The Waggle-Free Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

Just checked my list and it says I have 171 physical Wii games... and that's not even everything I want, there are still ones I'm missing I want to pick up at some point (soon). :lol

Great console, not even counting the awesome games VC (and lesser extent WiiWare) bought to me as well.

Now is the time to be securing your collections!

The lack of people mentioning Dokapon Kingdom and fortune street is just heart breaking. These two games caused me and my friends to rage and fight each other like true enemies, fun times.

I have a U and it destroys the Wii. Not even close in terms of controller and games.

ha, nope. The OP only has a fraction of the worthwhile games listed and the lol U can merely dream of ever even catching up to the glimpse of the library shown there (what is this... 3rd party... exclusives? that are unique and play great? oh_my_gooood.gif*). The few main series released so far are also highly inferior compared to their Wii predecessors. Going from Galaxy to 3D World and NSMB#5 is like going from living in dream land to having straight up cancer. Fair enough on the graphics and the controller, even though the latter only turned all shooting games into god tier mode, I guess...

Man, this thread made me realise, I still need more Wii games than Wii U titles :lol

Fantastic thread! I'm still looking to complete my Wii collection (got 84 games as of right now).

Still salty that we didn't get Trauma Team, Disney Guilty Party, Excitebots and Kirby's Dream Collection.

Not one for exaggeration are you?

- Xenoblade Chronicles
- Pandora's Tower
- The Last Story

Don't forget Silent Hill Shattered Memories when you get going, it's not in the OP, but one of the best. And you might wanna start with Sin & Punishment, as it's not only one of the better action games last gen, but also dirt cheap to get.

Subbed. I'll have to make a collection list later, but I got No More Heroes out on the Wii U the other day, one of my favourite games ever, but looks awful nowdays! :(

Come on Nintendo, give Suda that Bayonetta 2 treatment...

My best Wii experience was playing Galaxy 2 on a dualshock 4 at 4k. Wii remote is probably the worst controller I've ever used, and the games look like shit outside Dolphin. Thankfully Dolphin exists so I didn't have to completely ignore Wii.

I have a U and it destroys the Wii. Not even close in terms of controller and games.
Wii Remote and Nunchuk is the most comfortable control scheme ever. A revised remote (analog stick, better button layout etc) would have been so much better than the gamepad.

Anyone here play Pirates PlundARr? It's a game kinda like Castle Crashers or Guardian Heroes but not as good. Still its worth the $3 it fetches for at gamestop. It's also 4 players though even playing with 3 causes slowdown for some reason.

Pandora's Tower is fucking amazing. Up there with Lost Odyssey as the RPG of the gen.

I hate how the rail shooters always seem to get mostly ignored in these threads (with the exception of Sin and Punishment). And the Wii was the king of rail shooters last gen.

House of the Dead Overkill was excellent. Ghost Squad was a ton of fun aswell.

Ah yeah, Sin & Punsihment Star Successor I did have that (I forgot to add on list). Will try to hunt Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Haven't played Silent Hill since SH1 on PS1. And the Trauma Wii game looks to be recommended here (played both Trauma games on the DS and one of my favorites, just never thought it would translate well without a touch screen).

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

For me this is one of the best third-party Wii exclusives. Despite sharing its name with a PC/360/PS3 game it's actually a completely separate and unique entry in the series. It has all the acrobatic platforming you would expect but differentiates itself by requiring the player to place extra pillars and hand-holds using the Wii's pointer controls as they traverse the levels, which becomes a really fun challenge in multitasking as the game progresses.

Reading through the thread and looking at people's collection photos it seems that this may be one of the least known gems on the system. Funny, considering it's an entry in a large franchise. I would highly recommend it, especially if you've ever enjoyed a PoP or Tomb Raider game before.

My collection:

Isn't as extense as others but I can honestly say I LOVE each and every game, and looking at them brings me great memories. At this point I can say I've played pretty much every Wii game I've ever been interested. I'd like to get Kirby's Adventures, but it's still crazy expensive and I already beat it long ago when I rented it. To be honest, I would have got rid of Trauma Center and Grand Slam Tennis long ago if it wasn't because I'd get peanuts for them.

Xenoblade, both Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, Okami, Shattered Memories, Bully... it's ridiculous how many of these games are among my favourite ones ever. Oh, and Wario Land doesn't get all the love it deserves. In my opinion, one of the greatest 2D platformers since Yoshi's Island and superior to DKC Returns, which I now own in 3DS.

Best thing to do is just hold em on an SD card I guess.

In some cases you can't because they thought it was a good idea to lock some saves on the SD cards.
Seriously between Eledees and SSBB I'm already using a substantial part of the memory.
I don't feel like cleaning the fridge every time I wanna play another game.
So I found another solution since only my WiiU and black Wii play retail games :
Wii gets SSBB (since it got GC controls) and Eledees on WiiU.

EDIT: Everyone grab Return to Dreamland if you can find it. So much better than Epic Yarn, and its got a pretty cool end boss sequence.

I was never interested in Epic Yarn, it's everything I hate about some types of platformers : style, no substance. And it kinda felt like Yoshi Story which is really one of the biggest betrayal for me.
Kirby Wii on the other hand is really good, pretty much everything I wanted for a Kirby game.
Not revolutionary or anything but really good.

Nintendo used the Wii to gift the world a new Punch-Out!! game. That alone pretty much makes it the best console ever.

I have around 60 games for the system and there are a bunch more I still need to get. I absolutely love the Wii's library.

I used Priiloader to hack the system menu to allow me to copy restricted saves without the restrictions. You can also use it to disable the region lock.

No, the gamepad is far more comfortable than the TV remote and nunchuck imo. And I can play games on it. And no waggle.

Instantly better controller.

Opinions and all that but MH3U, ZombiU, DKCTF and Bayo 2 are enough for me to give it the nod over Wii. The games on U aren't dragged down by bad controls, which is huge.

I don't have Dokapon Kingdom but my friend does, and I can confirm that the game does indeed push friendships to their breaking point. It's a lot of fun!

How does Overkill play in comparison to the arcade games? I liked 2, 3, and 4 (haven't played the first).

For the same reason the very best control scheme for a rpg was in Earthbound, Wii rocks while WiiU is unwieldy.
A controller that doesn't shackle your hands is really way more comfy.
Games on Wii are also way more diverse and actually really just better than their counterpart on WiiU(when they exist that is) apart from maybe MK8 or MH3.
I like the WiiU and some addition to the system really make it sing but it's not really as great as its predecessor.
On top of that the main controller is no longer flexible so you're stuck with a regular da controller that usually suck so much in comparison.

Well if you have HoD 2&3 you know how it plays.
It have branching path and have unlockables but the point system to get the unlockables is a bit weird.
It's not that short and is really a whole load of fun.

Wiimote + Nunchuk is an incredible combo. Not comparable to the Gamepad which is a great but completely different type of controller.

Also, this is the the Wii *appreciation* thread, so..
j/k of course, but you're still wrong :p

I'm kind of shocked at how badly Tatsunoko Vs Capcom tanked, if not in sales figures, than in the public mindset. I don't think I ever saw a high level match streamed at any tournament, though there are at least some on Youtube. It's lamentable to me because I find it way more interesting than MvC3.

That's an interesting point I hadn't considered in my relief that they'd done away with the waggle and implemented the best stick placement that I had been waiting for since forever.

These threads always remind me of the games I still want to add to my collection. Got another one coming next week, will post pics then :D

1up Show talks "Revolution" controller
http://youtu.be/VPsKqmgUmSw

The man in the pink shirt was totally right about Sony eventually copying the controller, lol

Mark McD has been going to the magic fountain with Sakurai, it seems. He looks exactly like in that video today. :D

I've slowwwwwly been playing catch with the Wii, and have managed to play:

Mario Galaxy 1/2
Twilight Princess
Skywayrd Sword
RE4
Zack and Wiki
Fire Emblem
Smash Brawl
DKC: Returns

I still have Metroid Prime Tilogy, Sin & Punishment and Xenoblade sitting around unopened! Not to mention the dozens of others I still need to get my hands on like The Last Story, Little King Story, Trauma Team, Punch Out, and Murmasa.

Another note, but it's worth remembering that handful of games that only ever say a US release on the Wii Virtual Console, such as the original Sin & Punishment and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

Yeah nothing beats sprawling out with a wiimote and nunchuk. It's pure bliss for spending long hours with an RPG. I'm fine with the layout and the stick. I just wish the dpad was slightly bigger. I'll always pick the wiimote/nunchuk scheme including games on the Wii U if there isn't any significant gampad implementation.

Fortune Street and Dokapon Kingdom are indeed amazing. I just don't like listing my favorite wii titles on this site anymore.

do it once, bookmark your post and then just quote it ;)

Good stuff OP. Wii is a great system and it deserves a lot more praise than it got. Have about 67 Wii games and the majority is awesome.

Thanks to this thread, I have randomly just bought Alien Soldier on Wii VC (rabbithole after looking at Gradius and Contra Rebirth videos on YT and landed on that again ...and I had 800 points sitting there still ^^)

It's not a matter of doing the work, one of my picks just tends to derail conversation is all.

if it's Other M I'd vote for a topic-wide ban of Other M related discussions since that has been talked to death in dedicated topics^^

edit: the irony (post above mine)

No one seems to show love to the best local multiplayer game...

250px-FS_boxcover.png

You might be put off by the cover or screenshots, but get 4 people together in a room and play it, guaranteed 4 hours of absolute fun.

As for the Wii...

I had it collecting dust for years, recently dug it out and it found its place on my main TV, I think between Mario Kart, Fortune Street, Mario Galaxy 2, etc, its the most played console in my house.

Looking forward to acquiring some of the games in the OP that I missed.

Here are some pics of my Wii collection:

Seriously, Wii has some amazing games.

The only ones from the pic above I don't recommend are;

Sonic & the Secret Rings

Not bad, just.. there. First two worlds had a few good ideas, but the design and gameplay after those was just plain horrible.

Alone in the Dark

Was the Collector's Edition version which I bought, but I still regret it. Even at € 8. One of the most horrible games I've ever played on the system.

Final Fantasy CC: The Crystal Bearers

This could have been a great Final Fantasy action game. It isn't. The game is so dull, but it's really frustrating to watch, because there's parts in the game where you just see the potential of the package. Such a sad development.

Everything else is fair game. I even liked Dead Rising CTYD believe it or not. But that might have been because of the RE 4 mechanics shoehorned into the game. Still peeved Capcom didn't give us RE 4-2 or something like it. There's also a few cool third party games in there like Ghostbusters and Prince of Persia TFS that are on par or even better than their HD counterparts. The Wii version of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is pretty enjoyable as well.

I actually love all three of those games, well the X360 version of Alone in the Dark anyway. I would have to assume that the Wii version is pretty awful though.

It is. The true definition of shovelware in my opinion. I actually used the episode format thingy to speed through the game. I barely got out of the first chapter, just because the controlls are horrific.

As for the other two.. didn't feel it. For a FF spin-off I prefer Chocobo's Dungeon. "Oh my god it looks like someone sprinkled cute on cute and made it a sandwich! Must be so easy!" *Enters first dungeon, gets their ass kicked*

wtf just happened!!??

Another great game to try out is Batman: The Brave and the Bold. WayForward did that and it shows.

One other question, are there any other Wii games aside from Excite Truck that allowed custom soundtracks?

The first Endless Ocean I believe.

My Wii is pretty beat up and grimy. It's the one I've had since launch. I dunno why, but I looked at the red Wii pretty recently, and that shit just looks so fucking perfect. I should buy one.

Also, did Wii games come in a bunch of different kinds of cases? My copy of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is in a totally different kind of white DVD case than most Wii games shipped in.

I don't think so aside from the move to eco friendly cases anyway. I own the Japanese version so I cant really check.

My three Wiis stick look pretty good. My launch one got a little noisy for awhile but that went anyway thankfully.

If you like beat 'em up then yes.
It's basically a 3D beat 'em up with "weird" graphics and cool moves.

Yeah, MadWorld gets a lot of hate on GAF, but I really thought it was a great game. It's a pretty literal beat-em-up in a 3D space... and yes, the music is phenomenal. The story was also way better than I'd expected. It was one of my favorite games of 2009.
