The Waggle-Free Nintendo Wii Appreciation/Collectors Thread

I've been collecting more for Wii lately and I have more games for the system now than I ever thought I would. There really were a lot of great games, and you can get real lucky trying to find some of the good games for it lately.

My tip- check pawn stores. Most pawn stores flat price their Wii games at $5.00, at least in my area. I've been able to get:

Klonoa
Arc Rise Fantasia
Bomberman Land
Dokapon Kingdom
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2

and more all for 5 bucks a pop over the past few months.

And Gamestop can still be a good place to find deals on preowned Wii games, especially if you have the power up rewards discount.

Fire Emblem for Wii is going for about $80 online and in retro game stores but at gamestop its $54 with power up rewards discount, plus if you do buy a lot of used games there, you can get $10 off coupons for preowned games on top of the discount, so it's very doable to get that game for under 50 bucks.

Now is the time to get Wii games though, because the stock is getting less and less in stores.

There should be a WARNING list for PAL gamers.

Apparently Tenchu: Shadow Assassin's, Little King's Story and MadWorld are 50Hz only in their PAL versions. Importing is encouraged. Found this out a while ago. Obviously the US versions of LKS, MadWorld and Tenchu are way more expensive than the dirt cheap PAL ones. Ugh.

edit:

apparently these two are also affected:
  • Mario Party 8 - 50Hz only
  • Heatseeker - 50Hz only

MW is pretty cheap on Amazon

Damn, can't say I ever noticed 50Hz with my PAL copy of Mad World. I wish Amazon would bring back free shipping to NZ for orders over $125. But then again if it's marketplace only that wouldn't matter.

Picked up several Wii games yesterday though, damn this thread already lol.

PAL
Cooking Mama World Babysitting Mama (it was $10 and came with a doll, lol!)
Ju-On: The Grudge (this is crazy rare or something, looked interesting anyway)
Minon Everyday Hero (saw it recommended in this thread)

NTSC
Dewy's Adventure
Bust-A-Move Bash
Dragon Quest Swords The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors

Don't care about regions really, I just go for what's cheapest. Got my eye on the RE shooter games next.

Is it? I bought a copy for five bucks once a) for some C-tier horror game entertainment with some friends, only to b) harvest a clean Wii case afterwards to use for some other game.

..I threw away Ju-On, lol. Atrocious game.

Haha wow, don't go check Amazon or eBay or anything then, you might cry.

Horror games for the Wii seem to jump up in price for some reason, it's kinda strange.

Eh, I don't really care since it literally only cost me 5€. Wouldn't even have considered getting it otherwise. Also, I try and keep the collection clean. :p

The Wii is probably my favorite console. I have 70+ games for it and have enjoyed it more than any prior console. Ironically the Wii U is one of my least favorite consoles. How times change I guess.

I hate how the online service was taken down so early. So frustrating. :(

Yeah, I had the calling and it goes for a pretty penny now. Doesn't bothe me though since I have the Wii horror games that matter: FFIV, FFII, Night of the Sacrifice, and Dead Space: Extraction. Always did want to try Escape from Bug Island though.

Maybe I missed it, but no one has mentioned Go Vacation or Fishing Resort in this thread. Both are great virtual vacation simulators.

Go Vacation is a mini-game collection. I can hear your eyes rolling. And while some of the games are horrible, they are all framed by 4 huge, open world environments (resorts) you can explore, full of secret challenges, areas and treasure chests (costumes) to discover. There is also a fairly substantial home-decorating aspect.

Fishing Resort (developed by Yuji Naka's Prope) is similar; a virtual vacation that focuses on fishing. The amount of content is staggering, and collecting the hundreds of different fish is addicting. I know, it's a fishing game, but this one is different. It is charming, fun and there is always something new to catch. The best fishing game ever made!

These games are not typical plow through a story, or master complicated action games. These are chill-out and enjoy experiencing these virtual places. Check them out.

Explain, what is this why should I have it! (please sell it poorly so I don't buy it! :D)

I've been having a Wii renaissance recently since I bought one for my boyfriend.
I've been discovering new titles and exploring some games that I overlooked before since I'm primarily buying games with strong multiplayer.
LEGO Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, and Samurai Warriors 3 have all been pretty great.
Alongside typical Wii standbys like SSBB and Mario Kart, of course.
It cost me maybe $100 for the system and 7 games on the cheap from various retailers.

Great timing for this thread. I just got my Wii U today in preparation for Bayo 2 and the OP is very informative as I'm interested in emulating Wii games. I never knew the Wii got a Tenchu game!

Its a Japanese only horror game that can be played with the wiimote by itself or with the balance board. It's not overly complex just exploring and running around but the environments and atmosphere are really well done. The art style is pretty neat and it even suggests using names of friends for the characters. You need a Japanese Wii to play it though as it it doesn't work on modded Wii consoles for some reason.

It's freaking awesome too.

now that is a big bummer :/

yeah, it was the main reason I kept my Japanese wii after getting a modded one for Fatal Frame IV. I ended up buying a bunch of Japanese VC stuff as added incentive to keep it around.

apparently it just needs a save file!

I just read on the another forum that someone had the same problem with this game and that the game needs a save file to start... which is weird cause all the other games don't, they just prompt you to create one. That person linked to a file which apparently solved their problem with the game... I'm gonna try it now and see if it works for me...

edit: Well the save file thing doesn't seem to work for me. I didn't get the exact same error text, but it still doesn't work...

edit 2: SOLVED MY PROBLEM!!!!! :D :D :D The game required a save file and the nunchuck had to be unplugged while loading it.... don't know why, but it works now!

Thanks again for the help, though, I really appreciate it :)

Japan VC is the only place to legally support Windjammers in 2014. A worthwhile purchase.

Getting a Wii U last month has led me to be on the lookout for some good Wii titles. My current targets, the Trauma series and Castle of Shikigami III are nigh on impossible for me to find in local stores.

Wait, so if I'm reading that right, FFIV has issues on US systems, even when modded?

If I'm buying a new Wii, would I be better off buying a Japanese one and modding it? Can I still buy games from the US storefronts?

you're not reading right. read again.

Thread really making me realize even more that the Wii was probably my favorite Nintendo system. There was just so much off the wall shit on it and then it also had good/excellent/the best entries in a number of franchises I still had pining for. (seriously, what sort of cosmic phenomena went down that resulted in Sonic Colors being as good as it was and releasing right before Christmas of all times?)

This thread's going to be a good source for me to finish my Wii library. It's the only one I actively want to finish too. Still need Radiant Dawn, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Wario Land Shake, The Last Story, Punch-Out, Return to Dreamland, Boy & His Blob, Klonoa and Little King's Story.

For reference, here's my library:

Is it back up? I thought that they took it down a few years ago. Windjammers is, in my experience, the best air hockey video game ever made on any platform, just that originally being for the Neo-Geo, you play it using big colorful muscley dudes tossing a bouncy frisbee around.

Where's the best place to buy Rhythm Heaven? I see the price jump around on amazon alot.

I am planning to get a Wii U and will play it on the Wii U. Use to own a Wii, but will jump through Wii library once I have something to play em on.

The game is typically dirt cheap on Ebay. Like, new copies can go for $3 sometimes.

It sucks I'd love to grab it for that cheap but I would much rather get the PAL version since it has the English and Japanese stuff all in one package.

Yeah, I bought the US one, and was pretty stoked it cost me basically nothing. Then, I realized it didn't have the Japanese voices, which kinda killed a lot of the charm.

I still have yet to buy the PAL version.

I'm guessing the WiiU has region locked stuff for Wii games? If not I may consider the Pal version then

Here's my collection:

There's a handful of doubles because they belonged to my girlfriend before we met. all together there's a little over 60 games there, plus a handful of WiiWare games and a page or two of Virtual Console games.

I'm doing my best to collect what games I can now while they're dirt cheap, especially some of the common ones I never got during the Wii's heyday. For example, I never owned Mario Kart Wii until about 3 weeks ago.

Sweet, Quest 64.

Haha, I'd forgotten about this. It was a weird thing because games had started offering 60hz options the previous generation and by 2009 we'd started seeing games released that were 60hz only. I think I complained about it on Platinum's message board at the time but ended up picking Mad World up for cheap a while later and not being that bothered by it.

The real 50hz oddity for Wii is that when SEGA released Pulseman, a Japanese import, on the Virtual Console they forced it to 50hz despite other JP/US import games on VC running full speed.

ITT: I discovered why my NTSC copy of Duck Tales on Wii U has a white spine cover thing.... they all do!

Its the only NTSC game I have, rest of my Wii U stuff is PAL (we just have blue spine cover side things) so I didn't realise until looking at everyones collection pics lol.

It gets better, the Wii Shop used to say in its description that is was 60Hz only. It took them an embarrassing amount of time to fix that.
