Anyone else excited at the prospect of virtual console titles playable on the controller?

With the 3ds, I really only play it while laying on the couch and not while out and about portably. Being able to play Final Fantasy 2 (4) while laying in my living room and watching a movie would be amazing in my eyes.

For a lot of people portables get their value by being able to be played outside the house, for me it comes from the ability to played without tying up the tv, and as such this controller excites me.

For once I side with BurntPork. 'uPad' is a poison upon all good things the Wii U might be, and we most not allow it to enter the collective gaming consciousness.

RE: Star Fox

Honestly if it's just going to be yet another rail shooter, just put it to the 3DS. Hell, you already have the 64 game in it.

The thing is, railshooters as is has a tendency to get repetitive. Someone posted that KI:U mixed up gameplay which is actually good point. Those later Star Fox games suffer from something, but not being railshooters isn't one of them (that's just shallow fanboy retort).

Hell, Star Fox Assault - here's the problems with it: it's short, the ratio between rail action and freeform flight is poor, it's not hard, the controls are awkward, and the pacing is terrible. However, it has the best music in the series and it has the best multiplayer ever made. Fix the problems addressed and you have a game better than N64 one. It stems from the fact that it is originally an arcade game (Star Fox Armada).

Don't like that attitude at all. This is one of my favorite sub-genres, and I would love to see it in glorious HD with super-sweet grafixes. In fact, I feel like it's one of the genres that benefits most from have a ton of high-poly stuff on screen, and lots of explosions.

I would love to be able to play some select Wii games on the tablet (obviously ones not heavily based on motion controls), personally. They would probably look better than they do on my HDTV.

The world isn't supposed to end until Decem

These are truly scary times.

1) Price? $349.99

2) Release date? Nov 2012

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 4 - 6x

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? I think how in depth their network is, or an out of no where sequel like Eternal Darkness, Star Tropics, Star Fox, F-Zero

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Normal Miyamoto attire, business casual

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? I think there's still a chance of Sony and MS mentioning their next gen offerings. I think if it's MS there will be a big focus on Kinect 2.0, if it's Sony, well I don't know what the big focus will be.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite? "We really want to take advantage of the unique control schemes the Wii-U offers, and until we come up with something we're just not ready to bring anything to it."

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Skipping a final exam? No, but I'll be just ending my first month at a new job, so I'm hoping I'll be able to stream and at least listen to it while working.

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Morgan Webb : "The games are just too colorful for me."

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? hmmmm if they don't include a Wiimote/Nunchuck in the package. I want pointer controls as a supported option damn it.

The problem is that a game cannot simply exist as is in the console platform without mixing it up. That is, unless it's a download game, but then that'd probably be not as satisfying as an actual retail, disc game.

Hell, that's why the N64 version had all range mode, but then that mode is severely limited.

I'm gonna continue calling it the Upad. Or you know...call it the controller.

I was always partial to sub-screen, Miyamoto said it in an interview and I liked it. I do agree though calling it a controller is the most accurate considering that's exactly what it is, the Wii U's controller.

Wii U Tablet

WUT

Whatever we end up calling the thing, it won't be what Nintendo calls it. They'll go with Wii U Controller or Wii U Secondary Display Control Device or some shit.

It's not happening... let it go :)

Upad. The only real option.

Wiimote and Upad post

It has been proposed before and something I endorse that should happen. I would really like to see a game that used both at the same time. But I would assume you would have to be able to disable the sensor bar for the console to use the Upad and vice versa. Maybe that could be mapped to a button.

Same here, it would flat out suck if that was Retro's game.

Amazing how his brain still seems intact.

They could just call it the SubCon (the alt universe in Super Mario Bros. 2 - the land of dreams). Would fit in quite well :)

Initially I though this would only work for us, but letting most gamers think of it as being short for Subscreen Controller while we get the inside joke would go over well with me.

With all this controller talk I was wondering, would it make sense for Nintendo to open their conference by introducing the updated controller along with a name before getting into any demos or anything?

Fuck me guys! I spend a day with my boy at a theme park and you've hit 13 pages already? Holy smoke!

I won't have time to read them all so GPWhore I don't suppose you have a groovy summary for this thread so far?

And since miyamoto called it the Subscreen, that's what it is to me..

back to the StarFox thingie,,

didnt Nintendo say (I think in one of their fiscal reports) that they are willing to cooperate with 3rd party developers to "outsource" projects that require big resources ??

in this case my dream developer for StarFox (I never enjoyed any one except SF64) is:

EA's BioWare
,,,,

cuz im ready for the series to be turned into more Actiony,RPG type a game

or else I REALLY would pay a alot of $$$$$ for Mass effect Trilogy for WiiU ,, (i havent got the chance to try that series and I really want to).

lol I've just noticed the "The Final Frontier" XD r u guys sure its final ?? :P

1) Price?
$329.99

2) Release date?
November 18.

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent?
4.1666

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)?
Some kind of online game using NiN.

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show.
A Pikmin.

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions?
Nope.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite?
"Nintendo's userbase is kids and grandparents"

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Skipping a final exam?
Nope, just gonna watch it wherever I can get it in the best quality and avoid the E3 threads.

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year?
No 40 minute demo of CoD.

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year?
Does "I'm not there" count?

For once I side with BurntPork. 'uPad' is a poison upon all good things the Wii U might be, and we most not allow it to enter the collective gaming consciousness.

Stop resisting.
Upad will persevere in the end.

No one seemed to like my WiiU stafox ideas. :(
Left 4 Dead type coop multiplayer. Work together to get through a level, yet there are incentives to let your friends get killed off. Tons of medals, achievements. Game is short so it can be beaten in one sitting with friends. Yet there are tons of branching paths with different story elements, levels, areas, etc encouraging multiple throughways.

Lots of arwing customizing as you progress both through the levels and the games.
If you get killed off or severe damage, you lose these custom parts and components for the subsequent levels.

Clicky Sticks confirmed.

Clicky Sticks confirmed.
Seriously? Wow.

1)  Price? 349

2)  Release date? 18th Nov

3)  Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 3 when optimised for Wii U magic hardware

4)  Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Reggie doesn't appear, he's been replaced

5)  Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. A gorilla suit, tutu and strap on sexual device

6)  Any special MS or Sony predictions? MS will announce upcoming console and show of a render or at most a realtime demo on 'target hardware'

7)  You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties.  So.. what'll be your favorite? We don't feel our audience will take to the unique offerings of the controller

8)  Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own?  Taking off from work?  Skipping a final exam? I'll get up early for Nintendo's conference

9)  Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? After showing off an upcoming Mario game they will claim that it's proof Nintendo will never really go for he hardcore

10)  Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? They will talk again about how app stores are bad and they don't want garage developers, convincing us that their eshop will still be rather sparse

No Launch Day questions this time around.. but in a future thread?  Yes!

FYI SNES Star Fox and N64 Star Fox are well-received BECAUSE they are good games, NOT BECAUSE they are rail shooters.

My vision of the Pokemon MMO is essentially the single player campaign of the handheld games, but trainers you pass along the way are other players online in the same region. Instead of random CPU battles, it's against other online players, and if you don't want to interact with them you can just decline it.

John Hackar just pops in and blurts it out.

Well that's his typical style, and its very fair since it stops people from trying to dig. I mean look at what happened with Matt the other day. He's dropped some hints in other threads as well about the WiiU. Like there not being a name change for example. I also think he was hinting at something involving zombies coming to the platform recently but maybe I misread his post.

I don't see why the console's sensor bar would go off at all... it's just a couple lights. They send and receive no information what so ever. Just leave it on, heck more design options that way.

I saw the "vouches" for John Harker, and the most definitive one I saw is "nobody questions him in the NPD thread." So we should believe him just because everyone does?

I mean, unlike most of you, I WANT the clicky sticks. I think they're great. (It only took me some serious time with Halo to get used to them, but now they never get in the way.) But that said, I still don't trust John Harker more than anyone else. Anyone could have said, "Nintendo has a killer launch lined up." He might be legit, I WANT him to be legit, but he hasn't done anything to prove himself legit. No specific predictions that came true, as far as I know. Am I wrong? What did I miss?

Matt? Cassamassina? What did he say? Link? I didn't know he still had Nintendo connections.

There are long time members of Gaf who are known to have alot of connections and when they tease something its like the voice of god from a cloud. Matt is not former IGN matt

I'm just glad that it ends 3 problems:

1) people talking as though the controller we saw at E3 is 100% finalized
2) people bitching about the lack of L3/R3
3) renewed hope for analog triggers

Though it does come at the cost of people taking this as a confirmation of sticks instead of circle pads.

i hope we also see this genre of games for the wiiu:

*wow
*starcraft
*diablo

Because the u-pad is perfect for it.

i also found this box:

He's been here for years, so I doubt that he'd risk a possible ban by throwing something like that out there. It's usually newer posters that will claim that they have insider sources.

Having clickable sticks is huge for the Wii U. Nearly all modern shooters are built around being able to click the sticks for important actions (like running). So not having that would've been an instant turn off for many of the core gamers that Nintendo seems to be targeting with the Wii U.

They're really the same thing though.
I dunno, I think people really need to try out the controller first.

He is known to have connections? How is that known? Did he leak something a long time ago that turned out true?

Ah, thanks.

I am fairly certain that he is a developer, so... Regardless, he's a fellow NMH fan, so I have to trust him.
