Pokemon MMO isn't happening, and, frankly, I'm not sure it should.

Some of you are acting like Pokemon is some unprofitable franchise stuck in the handheld ghetto, and Nintendo need to bring it to an MMO format for the franchise to see success, whereas, with the merchandising, movies, anime, manga and all the rest, it's one of the most profitable franchises on the planet.

The concept that the future of the franchise is an MMO aimed at "older audiences" is absolutely hilarious, frankly.

The possibility that Nintendo thinks a Pokemon MMO could devalue the appeal of future stand-alone titles is what probably helps prevent it from happening. The actual game design behind the series is very well suited for expansion into an MMO, despite BP's insistence to the contrary.

hey, but what about the steam console from valve/"apple" for e3, will it not blow MS and sony away with there awesome hardware specs? 3 consoles build on hardware specs isn't good. It is at least 1 to much. 1 of the three should go another direction like nintendo does otherwise 1 of the three will not survive in this market

Infinity dollars says I don't give a crap about the difference between 720p and 1080p. Seriously, if that's what's going to be the big difference between the Xbox 3 and the Wii U, then MS is out of their fricken mind. (That would be a 2.25x increase in 'power', btw)

Why give a crap about SD to HD then? Resolution is resolution. If you think that's going to be the only difference between Microsoft and Nintendo's hardware, you're going to be surprised. All resolution dictates is the rendered pixels, and fact of the matter is 1080p looks crisper, cleaner and far nicer than 720p. Not to mention pretty much every modern display bar the lowest budget line is built to natively render at 1080p, forced to upscale 720p.

But more importantly, that certainly wont be the only thing that separates the two. It's simply an added bonus of having stronger hardware: better overall rendering IQ.

I will, however, make an argument that a lot of people wont notice it. Mass market consumers wont, just like they probably don't see much of a difference between Call of Duty: Black Ops PS3 and WipeOut HD, despite the latter regularly rendering at near twice the resolution. What they will notice is all the bells and whistles on top of that. And like z0m3 said, a lot of next generation games will probably run at 720p anyway, as developers wish to focus resources towards extra effects.

But, end of the day, I take ShockingAlberto's stance (regardless of him telling people not to take it as fact). I expect the Wii U to be more powerful than any current generation title, and by an amount that allows for ground-up system pushing titles to legitimately look better. I think we'll see a lot of titles that don't do this, particularly ports. And, when Microsoft's console arrives, I'm expecting it to smoke the Wii U's performance, far and beyond any Wii U = PS2 / XboxNext = Xbox kind of comparisons. And I expect it to be stupid expensive.

Gabe said no announcements from Valve this E3 , also that Valve/Apple rumor was debunked

I think you guys are missing the fact that Nintendo is proposing the idea of having the New controller AND the Wii remote/nunchucks Coexist with each other so both have to be supported.

But for how long ?? thats the question, maybe 2 years from now 3rd party will see the New Controller as the only viable option for their game and keep that only.

I just don't think that third party devs will use the Wiimote unless Nintendo requires that both controllers work for the Wii U. And I doubt that Nintendo will do that since they're going to want as many devs on board as possible. I feel that Nintendo brought a traditional controller back specifically for those devs and gamers that really don't care for motion controls. It should give them the option to develop for it instead of requiring it.

It terms of power, maybe, but that potential Valve box would be a PC runing Windows, it wont be a console.

I think Wiimote use will be limited to games that have an obvious benefit such as on rails s

And I expect it to be stupid expensive.

this would be ridiculously stupid of microsoft if they're not planning on taking a $5b hit this generation. $399.99 is the max i think customers are willing to pay for consoles before it gets too crazy. if the ps4 winds up being more like the original xbox compared to the wii u's ps2, then we might see a situation where the next xbox is sort of the odd man out, especially in japan (and i mean as far as overall japanese support goes and not just how well the respective consoles sell over there).

but i think microsoft, if they plan on going crazy with the specs, will opt for a huge loss per console sold, because they can take it, and i think they'll expect to take sony, nintendo, and apple at the same time.

1) Price? 349.99

2) Release date? November 18, 2012

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 3X

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)?
Wii U:
- 2 uPad's are supported
- OS is heavily online focused, leaps beyond Microsoft and Sony, the ability to chat to friends while spectating their game and drop in on the gameplay action on titles that support it.
- NFC functionality is used with great effect in a core Nintendo franchise
- Retro Studios new game is shown off in a montage (No other details)
- NO SMASH BROS OF ANY KIND
- A brand new franchise is announced in a brand new universe with brand new characters with Miyamoto working on it
- Monolith Soft's Wii U title is announced, jaws drop.
- Exclusive partnerships with THQ, EA, Ubisoft and SK
- Pikmin 3 runs at 1080p
- Link's Crossbow Training 2 is shown in a trailer (graphics similar to last years Zelda tech demo)

3DS
- The Legend of Zelda: 3DS is announced
- A Donkey Kong Land title for 3DS is announced (2013)
- Monster Hunter is announced as a western release
- Metroid 3DS is announced (2013)

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. He'll play a live demo of Pikmin 3, it'll beautiful but kind of boring listening to Bill

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? SONY: Will focus 50/50 between Vita and PS3, announcing new games for Vita and showing gameplay of titles such as Call of Duty and Bioshock.

MICROSOFT: Will do what everybody expects them to do, may unveil Unreal Engine 4 running on "next generation hardware"

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite? Wanting to see how other games do first

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Nintendo's conference is at 2AM for me so basically just shifting my sleep patterns

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Too many sequels/casual games too much of a focus

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Leaving out a couple of awesome games or details only to find them on their E3 site after the press conference is finished.

Also: THERE WON'T BE ANY SMASH BROS.

Almost page 30...on thread V...and absolutely nothing. Nintendo is amazing
KuGsj.gif

your joking right?

I found it really hard to believe Nintendo will go much far in the online territory; why should they change their policies suddenly?

I am pretty sure up to now, it wasn't that Nintendo couldn't add functions like patching or full game download to 3DS, but because there was a lack of goal for doing so from the beginning.

And I don't see them having set a goal of a very online focused OS for Wii U.

lol sry, this thread has me paranoid about the next shallow statement to be said. plus i meant to highlight the whole statement. doesn't matter now.

Nintendo has the ability to make people do crazy things, especially when concerning a new system. It's a tried and true, time tested fact. If you think the batshit has hit insanity levels right now, just wait until E3 week

While I would love a new Metroid, Mario, or Zelda title, I really hope we get something new, or have a revival of an old franchise.

Come on Nintendo, now is the time.

I guess we'll have to disagree there. ponytail I don't think that the average CoD or BF player will want to use the Wiimote over the dual analog-style that they've been using for years now. They're going to want something that they're instantly comfortable with. And these games are going to be ports of PS3 and 360 games, so they'll already be designed for the dual analog scheme. They'd have to redesign the control scheme just for the Wii U, and I question how many third party devs will actually want to do that.

but it is so much better its the reason i got mw3 on the wii the nunchuck and wii-mote control setup is 100 times better than a dual sticks. this is my biggest fear about the wii u that first person shooters will neglect the wii mote :(

This has always been my thought on the whole, Wii U control input thing.

I think the Wiimote+Nunchuk will be the Classic Controller of this gen, it will be supported for games that might work better with it, but ultimately it will be secondary, Nintendo did show off the Wii U almost strictly as the controller afterall.

I mean look at all the confused people last E3, (even though it was obviously a new console) they were confused because Nintendo was pimping next-gen as "hey look at our new controller, it's got a sub-screen". They weren't even showing off the console, so I would be stunned if after all this that Nintendo is going to then not have the Wii U controller be the primary controller.

Like I said, the Wiimote+Nunchuk combo will be used but for a minimal amount of single-player games like the CC and CCP were, and it will be used for local multi-player as well since Nintendo is about affordability, as well as 4 sub-screens going at once probaly isn't possible. So when it comes down to it almost every single-player game the sub-screen will be the primary controller, not the Wiimote.

I second this fear, however, Treyarch like giving the user options (at least in the past few CoDs with wiimote, zapper and classic controller support). I have faith that they will allow the player to choose.

Don't know if this is discussed (not going to read 4 20.000 post threads...), but what are the odds the WiiU will run Android? This could be especially interesting if WiiU will come with GoogleTV. I'm sure Google would like to have a presence on the consoles to counter AppleTV, but MS and Sony like to do their own content delivery. So Nintendo would be a good parrtner.

I think next gen will be very much about delivering the content/app delivery box for the TV through a gaming machine (the reason MS stepped into gaming anyway).

I don't think investors will accept it long term. Looking at XBox threads, it looks like they may be doing at least 2 things

1. Kinect centric console with lighter specs and thus lower costs
2. Contract plan which actually makes a lot of sense for the high end one. Everyone is likely going to get Live anyway so a subsidized console would do the trick.

No matter what, Microsoft is going to go for profit next cycle pretty early on. They've gotten used to it and there's really no reason to even switch to next gen, since they're peaking & profitable now, until they figure out how to make that happen.

Did you know there already exist a Nintendo/Google OS?

Means nothing, just a bit of trivia to stick in your brain.

hmmm didnt know that :/

guys what are the chances of :

Japan WiiU will be bundled with DQX ?? (justifying the 400$ price point)

US/Europe WiiU will be bundled with NSMB.Mii ?? (Justifying the 350$ price point)

out of stuck WiiU CONFIRMED !!

I don't see Nintendo packing in their biggest launch sellers, if either of them were going to be launch games, which I'm not so sure about. So I would have to say 0%.

Go Nintendo's hook is as it's always been: all things Nintendo. If you didn't post the rumours and gossip you'd probably have people grumble and lose interest. Someone has to do it, people enjoy reading it, and thus that someone is you. There's nothing really to apologise for, as the inaccuracies are usually not your fault, but the source.

Like, you sourcing IdeaMan's posts for news. That's fine, and expected of your website, and the readers love it. But we cant have someone then go and make a thread off your report. Hence the ban!

Glad I could clarify though. Unlike 'Chartz, I feel the Go Nintendo ban has caused a bit of confusion.

Hey EC, i have 2 or 3 bombs that i've kept because i thought they worth their own threads (and some others less important that i'll post here), i wanted to create them if i become member before E3, do you think it will be possible, with a lot of forewords/warnings (as usual), presentation of the context of the data, links to my introduction/justification/legitimation of my info by a confirmed-by-mod dev, etc ? And i'll do another effort to legitimate me & my news before (well, we can talk about it in private).

I was wondering what the boxart of Wii U games will look like, so i started messing around in Photoshop

1e1c812b2ee6865b99a85f1052742d8f.jpg

^ Smaller and thicker than your traditional DVD case, so it stands out. And the top banner is supposed to be somewhat shiny/reflective.

Not my best work but probably a reasonable prediction seeing as the simplistic, white motif is something they want to carry on to next gen.

EDIT:

The Wii U logo is a bitch to frame :\

Very cool mock-up :)

To stay on the same topic, here's another one that i find very classy, on deviantart

You definitely don't want to make threads about rumors you can't source...

The 'Apple console' is probably a future iteration of Apple TV.
Right now Apple call it a 'hobby', but if they start getting serious and pushing it hard they could very swiftly deal a heavy blow to Microsoft's plan to 'control the living room' through the set-top (X)box.
Apple's gaming push won't be about tech specs. That's not their style. It will be about ease of use, superior marketplace, and leveraging their iOS ecosystem.
If the rumours of an Apple game controller are accurate, next gen is going to be very messy.
And, when Microsoft's console arrives, I'm expecting it to smoke the Wii U's performance, far and beyond any Wii U = PS2 / XboxNext = Xbox kind of comparisons. And I expect it to be stupid expensive.
In the long run, yes. They'll probably sell it at a very attractive initial price but force a monthly contract onto consumers that subsidises the machine. A monthly service fee is the logical extension of the path they've been taking Xbox down.
I second this fear, however, Treyarch like giving the user options (at least in the past few CoDs with wiimote, zapper and classic controller support). I have faith that they will allow the player to choose.
Whoever is first to bring out a full featured 60fps online shooter with proper Wiimote+nunchuk support has my money.

It's not provocation, i always deliver, in less than 4 weeks, these bombs will be dropped, and other smaller ones before :)

well in 4 weeks exactly from now is Nintendo's E3 conference,,, Bombs that are already dropped are not called bombs :P

its gonna be Iwata Bomb Vs. Ideaman Bomb .....who will drop it first XD

I don't really like those game cases mock-ups. The 3DS already had a very hard time setting itself aside from the DS and Nintendo is already aware of it so they need something completely different. Maybe changing to black or a square format might be a better idea. We have had DVD cases for more than 10 years and 5 consoles + PC already, I guess it's time to change.

You guys think BG&E2 has any hope of hitting WiiU?

I mean, Ubi Soft is supporting Nintendo a lot, and they've said they need next-generation hardware to make the game.

If BG&E2 was launching with WiiU, honestly I wouldn't even need a 1st part game.

If the game launch one day (this is a rather modest team that works on it actually), there's a lot of chances it will hit the Wii U. And the controller would be perfect for it, to takes pictures à la Pokemon Snap in a virtual world surrounding you that you explore through the little window that constitute the padlet screen.

The Wii U logo is a bitch to frame :\
Tell me about it. I made a similar cover layout to yours a while ago, and it was very difficult to fit the logo in a good way. It's not compatible with the header element of the Wii covers due to the added "U" character, nor does it fit well in any quadrilateral (I tested with the header element (rectangle) of the Japanese Gamecube covers). Best shape I've found to use in conjunction with the Wii U logo is an inverted elliptical half. What you have used works well also, though I wonder why you haven't centered the protruding part of the header element.

IM, I really think you should ask EatChildren if making such a thread would be okay.

Honestly, I think most of GAF will call you a liar no matter what you say or do to prove your legitimacy. That on top of the thread possibly not even being allowed makes it seem like a very bad idea.

So when it comes down to it almost every single-player game the sub-screen will be the primary controller, not the Wiimote.
But Nintendo also showed the Wii-Remote in almost every Wii-U game as well. The Classic Controller's limited usage was based on the fact that it was an optional peripheral not many people had, designed mainly for lazy game developers porting games from other consoles and for Virtual Console games (this is how Ninrendo initially marketed the Classic Controller). The Wii-Remote, however, already has 95 million owners. I don't think developers are going to ignore that fact, not when most gamers agree that it controls far better for certain types of games like fps's.

Yeah i'll ask the mods before :)

Still means we have to wait weeks :(

For the bombs, maybe, for the smaller infos, no, i'll release something in a few days (less than 3). The time for me to gather all the data + write a post by choosing the words carefully + freeing some time after to answer to interrogations. It will be about dev kits, again.

Do we really need Wii U related pieces of info (aka new rumors that say the same things we heard through 01net, reported again and againg with different sentences) at this stage?

Let the E3 come and our minds explode

i should have said "before E3" of course :)

its not a good idea to start new threads even with Mod support the backlash is huge around here without a source to link these Bombs to

I much as I would want to see you pay for your sins in this thread, no one deserve what NeoGAF would bring down upon you because of your teasing way to post info

Anyway I feel like this with 30 days to go...

LA LA LA I can't hear you! Is my reply to any bombs being posted, I can wait 30 days to hear from the horse's mouth
