The only good implication I can draw from 'clickable sticks' is 'sticks'.

Generous.

I wouldn't say so, 240Gflops from the 360 is pretty easily beat by today's GPU's, I think somewhere around 3x is the lowest they would shoot for, what is going to actually make the big difference though is that extra ram, modern full featured shaders and edram for higher resolutions.

I don't think that will LOOK 4x-6x better for most people, but heck that garden demo and zelda demo did look pretty nice, so a bump to that (which is confirmed as far as i know -IE no longer underclocked over heating early dev kits) would give us that 3-6x range, though I believe it to be closer to 3 than 6 thanks to everyone in this thread holding my expectations back lol

I saw the "vouches" for John Harker, and the most definitive one I saw is "nobody questions him in the NPD thread." So we should believe him just because everyone does?

I mean, unlike most of you, I WANT the clicky sticks. I think they're great. (It only took me some serious time with Halo to get used to them, but now they never get in the way.) But that said, I still don't trust John Harker more than anyone else. Anyone could have said, "Nintendo has a killer launch lined up." He might be legit, I WANT him to be legit, but he hasn't done anything to prove himself legit. No specific predictions that came true, as far as I know. Am I wrong? What did I miss?

I don't know him... but I don't think he's lying to us.
Why would he risk his GAF account just to trolling us? Apparently he's been around for quite some time.
At the end... we're only a month away from E3 so we'll find out sooner rather than later
so just enjoy what's coming. Bullshit or confirmations :)

1)  Price? $349.99

2)  Release date? November 11, 2012

3)  Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 2x-2.5x

4)  Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Eternal Darkness 2

5)  Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Dressed as a Pikmin

6)  Any special MS or Sony predictions? Microsoft will show off a trailer of their new console or something equivalent to try an upstage the Wii U. Don't care about Sony, so I don't know

7)  You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties.  So.. what'll be your favorite? They will all pull a Kojima. Almost sure of it, so I won't have a favorite.

8)  Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own?  Taking off from work?  Skipping a final exam? Taking two days off of work, setting up my laptop to watch Nintendo's E3 on my TV, playing 3DS waiting for the conference to start, having snacks ready

9)  Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Where's the third party support? Not sure what they'll complain about this time, but they always find something to complain about.

10)  Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? I want Analog sticks, but I'm afraid we're going to get stuck with the sliders. I don't like them one bit.

The only good implication I can draw from 'clickable sticks' is 'sticks'.

I thought the same thing haha. Hopefully we get a real stick.

They're really the same thing though.
I dunno, I think people really need to try out the controller first.

A thousand times this. The circle pads seem very different than the 3DS one, just by looking at a comparison picture, yet people think it will act and feel exactly the same.

Just try the thing before claiming it needs to be fixed.

Having clickable sticks is huge for the Wii U. Nearly all modern shooters are built around being able to click the sticks for important actions (like running). So not having that would've been an instant turn off for many of the core gamers that Nintendo seems to be targeting with the Wii U.
And having clickable sticks is a major turn-off for me, I HATE the damn things. I'm always clicking them in when I don't want to. If a game requires so many buttons that they need to hide some in the control sticks, then the game controls need to be redesigned.

And chances are most modern shooters On Wii-U will be using remote and nunchuk, because those are superior to dual stick.

He's been here for years, so I doubt that he'd risk a possible ban by throwing something like that out there. It's usually newer posters that will claim that they have insider sources.

Yeah, the long-term account is certainly a form of currency, but only if he posts a lot. I've had an account on IGN since like 2003, but I wouldn't care if it got banned, because I rarely post anything. Is he a pretty active user, or does he just do hit-and-runs like this every few months? BGassassin, for example, I trust, because he's an active user, not just a long-time user. It would pain him to be banned. If John Harker is similarly active, I'll believe him.

If it's anything like the 360 controller then you don't have to worry about accidentally clicking on them. I've probably accidentally clicked on them twice after owning a 360 for 4 years.

$10 says 90% of Wii U games for the systems' entire life run at no higher resolutions than the current gen. EG: 720p norm, only a very few exceptions running at 1080p.

I skimmed through his post history after he posted about the click-sticks, and he seems to post quite regularly. Not like Ace or BurntPork regular, but enough for me to trust his claims.

Those few exceptions will most likely be all first party titles. I don't have a problem with this.

Edit: No matter how many times I've seen your actual photo, I still picture you as your avatar.

Besides, some users, including ShockingAlberto technically confirmed that he's a reliable source.

I agree 100%, but that is not because of the power of the system, it's because of devs priorities, I think the same thing will be true with the Xbox720 and PS4 for that matter.

Still what I'm saying isn't out there really, it would still be a fairly weak GPU, even 4x a 360's GPU would make it weaker than a HD4850

They should just call it the Controller Unit Nintendo Tablet.

I wouldn't take that bet, I'm in totally agreement there. In fact, I'd rather see more gorgeous environments rendered at 720p/1080i than 1080p with sacrifices. Also, selfishly, because my TV doesn't do 1080p :-) But I think a lot of HDTV owners are the same way. Maybe for 1 screen stuff like pinball or "simple" games, but I just see framerate being sacrificed otherwise.

You're on!

Wanna do a double-or-nothing that you're not getting analog sticks on the pad, too?

Do you predict the new Xbox or PlayStation systems using 1080p as the norm? Or do you think they'll focus more on other big visual effects at 720p?

I think they should do a Pokemon MMO.

You'll get your battle sim/RPG and like it.

The only thing I hope is that it is comfortable, and Nintendo has never made an uncomfortable controller (Not counting handhelds), so I'm not too worried with whether or not they use pads or sticks.

For the record, I love the 3DS slide pad.

Me too. Comfort is primary. If the controller is more comfortable with slide pads than sticks, that's what I want. (Ignoring the fact that I find sticks generally counter-intuitive).

Really? I fully expect that most third party devs will only use the standard controllers. Especially for shooters because of the online issues with having two completely different control schemes.

1)  Price? $300

2)  Release date? November 18 (I'm such a sheep)

3)  Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? π (EDIT: That's a pi symbol. Not a very good font for it.)

4)  Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Battletanx remake. U-pad is the cockpit.

5)  Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Reggie's wife Stacey.

6)  Any special MS or Sony predictions? Sony reveals a controller with a touchpad on the underside. No screen on top; they couldn't afford it.

7)  You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties.  So.. what'll be your favorite? Supporting American console to help American economy. Playstation will be absent from the excuse, but will still get games.

8)  Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own?  Taking off from work?  Skipping a final exam? French toast.

9)  Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? No vitality sensor.

10)  Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? No vitality sensor (in the handles of the U-pad).

This is what I'm hoping to see as well. Isn't it also true that a lot of 360 games were not in true 720p? I thought it had some gorgeous looking games, so I'm thrilled to see Wii U games regardless of whether they're 720p or 1080p.

Those few exceptions will most likely be all first party titles. I don't have a problem with this.

Even then I expect only the simpler games to run at native 1080p. Bigger, more complex games like Zelda and co I expect at 720p,

I dunno. I still don't think, even on paper, the Wii U will be pushing 4x+ performance compared to the 360's GPU. But I'm a cynical ass :P.

You're on!

Wanna do a double-or-nothing that you're not getting analog sticks on the pad, too?

No, because I don't think we'll get sticks. I'm not THAT optimistic. But rendering, your on.

Do you predict the new Xbox or PlayStation systems using 1080p as the norm? Or do you think they'll focus more on other big visual effects at 720p?

It will differ between developers. I think you'll see much more 1080p games, but I think you'll also see a lot of developers forgoing high resolutions in favour of better looking games.

I guess the problem, which hopefully will be addressed come E3 time is what a standard controller is and if that's changed. 'Cause for now it seems to be the Wii remote / remote & nunchuck. Of course classics can be plugged into the wii remote, but a stand alone classic option becoming the "standard" controller 2 would really stream line things I think.

Even then I expect only the simpler games to run at native 1080p. Bigger, more complex games like Zelda and co I expect at 720p,

I think the same. I believe someone in the previous two threads has mentioned that the much more simple titles will most likely be in 1080p, possibly IdeaMan. I just believe Nintendo will be the one outputting more simple games in 1080p than third parties. *crosses fingers for WarioWare Wii U*

On wii-U remote/nunchuk *are* standard controllers. I mean, over 95 million households already have remote/nunchuks and are used to using them. And as they are closer to the mouse/keyboard combo, hardcore gamers are going to want to use them instead of dual-stick.

I dunno. I still don't think, even on paper, the Wii U will be pushing 4x+ performance compared to the 360's GPU. But I'm a cynical ass :P.

I think the more complex games will be 720p on any next gen console, it's just about pushing graphics and 60fps rather than 1080p, I would imagine that 1080p @60fps will be very rare outside of PCs even for the next cycle.

I do think that is pretty much the ceiling, something around 1.2tflops would be the highest I would imagine, but I do think anything below 3x is too low, they can get away with 768Gflops, which is roughly 3x the PS360.

Even then I expect only the simpler games to run at native 1080p. Bigger, more complex games like Zelda and co I expect at 720p.

I agree. I really wish a game would use my TV to its fullest, though. I think there's too small an emphasis on IQ. I think lighting is first priority, then IQ, then textures, then poly count, then AA (which I guess is part of IQ, but whatever.)

How have you been dealing with playing games up until this point? PC?

A combination of PC and Nintendo handhelds and the Wii, mostly. I've played and completed games on other consoles, but stick controls generally limit how well I can do, particularly in fast-paced games (I choose to irrationally blame this on being left handed for no other reason than ;P).

$10 says 90% of Wii U games for the systems' entire life run at no higher resolutions than the current gen. EG: 720p norm, only a very few exceptions running at 1080p.

Infinity dollars says I don't give a crap about the difference between 720p and 1080p. Seriously, if that's what's going to be the big difference between the Xbox 3 and the Wii U, then MS is out of their fricken mind. (That would be a 2.25x increase in 'power', btw)

It will differ between developers. I think you'll see much more 1080p games, but I think you'll also see a lot of developers forgoing high resolutions in favour of better looking games.

I wonder how that will affect porting games to the Wii U. Depending on the eventual spread in power between the systems, a 1080p Xbox game could maybe get ported to the Wii U at 720p, along with other (hopefully minimal) sacrifices. But what do you do when the Xbox game is already running at 720p? Bigger, more noticeable cuts start getting made in that case, right?

Hopefully it works out okay in the end!

1) Price? 349.99

2) Release date? November 18, 2012 (Surprise Blops2 deal with Activision)

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 3X (2X PS3)
4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? GTA V, Nintendo Network features, Retro game, multimedia approach with WiiU and 3DS, and some unexpected 3rd party 3DS games.

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. As Link ( and introducing the new 3DS Zelda title)

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? Sony will have alot of Vita games (GT,PSASBR vita, 3rd party major franchises) GOW4 gameplay footage, and Last of Us/Last Guardian blowout. no Move mentions.
Micro will have Halo4 blowout, COD blowout, some new Kinect stuff, price drop, future Windows 8 inegration and some tidbits about the next gen Xbox.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite? "I think its a cool device with a lot of potential, but we dont have anything in the works for now"

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Skipping a final exam? Off days from work June 1st-June 6th ,,,setting up my desktop with all possible streaming channels in case there is some lag. live tweeting from my cell in Arabic .

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year?
"So WiiU is really a full console and not just an accessory for Wii ?". "Soccer moms have already bought iPads for their kids so Nintendo is screwed". "This company will never learn".

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? that I'll have to wait longer for price and release date (probably launch titles) so I can manage my budget and start pre-ordering the thing from Amazon.

I guess we'll have to disagree there. I don't think that the average CoD or BF player will want to use the Wiimote over the dual analog-style that they've been using for years now. They're going to want something that they're instantly comfortable with. And these games are going to be ports of PS3 and 360 games, so they'll already be designed for the dual analog scheme. They'd have to redesign the control scheme just for the Wii U, and I question how many third party devs will actually want to do that.

1) Price? $300

2) Release date? December 1, 2012

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 2x

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Battle of Olympus

5) Predict Miyamoto's will show the new pikmin. Retro will show there new game. Iwata will show a new suprise about the wiiu. Also allot of information about social communication what you can do with the wiiu beside gaming.

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions?
*Sony will show there u-pad for the ps3 and also will show NFC things on it. Also smash brothers will be showed and everyone will love it.
*MS Will show allot of kinect stuff / halo 4 , small teaser on the next gen console. and gta5/re6 stuff

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite? I hope maybe a new castlevania but in 2d for the 3ds. Wiiu maybe some mmo game and Eternal Darkness2.

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? I will check the conference live at 18h in Belgium.

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Where's the third party support? 1h conference

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? That the rumor of the clicking sticks are true.

I think you guys are missing the fact that Nintendo is proposing the idea of having the New controller AND the Wii remote/nunchucks Coexist with each other so both have to be supported.

But for how long ?? thats the question, maybe 2 years from now 3rd party will see the New Controller as the only viable option for their game and keep that only.

Vinci and bp lol. Your playin' with fire Vinci with only your sanity to lose.

A Poke-MMO aka Poke-mo would rock the Earth.

As for Starfox, just give me Lylat Wars 64 HD with a few bonus challenges and I'll be happy.
on the U-shop channel of course.

hahahaha

Where have you been in the last six years?
