This game totally made me realize how crappy that game is from Quests , combat, exploration, strategy in fighting enemies, writing, content, diversions, etc on and on

Well done CdPr

I feel the same about most Ubisoft open-world games. Totally uninspired paint-by-number collectathons.

I hope they put an option to increase the text size rather than just make everyone have increased text. It's already borderline too crowded on the screen without sesame street sized letters cluttering it.

You can make the hud smaller... it helps.

Towerfull of mice question
why did Graham die?

You released a plague maiden on his ass... and everyone else. She was actually a bad demon sort of thing, and by taking her bones off the island, she's no longer confined to there, so when you left them with Graham, she killed him and ran off

Not sure where else to ask this but here.

I've never played any of the Witcher games (skipped 2nd on 360 for whatever reasons) but i'm quite curious about them now. Problem is I can't bring myself to start from the 3rd game even if there is an introductory section for newcomer. I want to know more about the lore and backstory of the world. So where do i go from here?

I know they were based on books so is that a good start? The Last Wish and Blood of Elves i can get ahold of for £10 combined to see if the world interests me. Anything else?

By all means, check out the books. Start with The Last Wish, if you like it, you can continue with Sword of Destiny (should be out by now) and then move on to the main Saga (Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt, Swallow's Tower and Lady of the Lake, in that order.)

Hi,

I can not seem to post on the forums and I am having a technical issue, I have realised that there are EU disc version differences and will not allow game saves to work with other EU discs. Basically I was given PS4 witcher 3 DVD from my friend while I awaited to purchase my own copy from same store (European and Region 2) (CD number CUSA-01439) and placed many hours playing, after my store told me I could pick up my copy I went and put it in my ps4 but it installed another version of witcher 3 and it couldn't see my saved games I checked the cd and its region 2 but the number on it is (CUSA-01440). Will this be solved by patches? if not will I have to find the exact same CD to play to load my saved games?? this is quite frankly ridiculous as if my friend got his original CD damaged and went to purchase another copy and got the same version as mine then his saves wouldn't also work. Yes I have tried uninstalling and using different ps4 but get the same issue.

Also to note the Version CUSA-01439 hasn't updated to patch 1.02 but only to 1.01 and the CD CUSA-01440 downloads patch 1.02 instantly. So even though its EU I assuming the region is different and locking out saves ... which I find stupid!!

Also, fuck archers. There's no goddamned way to block or avoid their attacks unless you rush into battle so this asshole will pull his weapons and you can block the arrows (assuming you have the skill equipped). And btw, arrows go through trees and environmental objects and still hit you. Nice. :/

Hah, game def has it's fair share of annoyances and frustrations, maybe they're just piling up and getting to you, because there's definitely a few things you can do about this. Dodge button works as far as dodging arrows, Quen works against arrows too. I've hid behind objects like turned over carts to avoid them, and even positioned their own men between me and their archer and yes, they will hit their own guys by accident if you're quick enough. Hopefully that gives you a few ideas, you definitely don't need to fly into battle to negate archers.

Just did the witcher contract
Jenny o the woods
, very satisfying fight. She got the best of me a few times, but once I was comfortable with my strategy and I pushed more aggressively it was a great fight. Hope I run across
the bastard who killed her at some point

And to think the Blood and Wine expansion is adding an entirely new region called Toussaint which means making this already massive world even bigger.

Pretty excited about this, mostly because I'm reading Lady of the Lake now and it takes place partially in Toussaint.

Just quoting and reiterating this now: If you can, read the books! They're all awesome. And don't be afraid to find fan translations. They're great!

The books will at the very least crank up your hype levels for Yen & Ciri's role in W3 considerably and you'll get a lot more from all the returning characters with the knowledge from the books and that's not even touching on the lore and backstory which the books cover. Sword of Destiny would be a better choice for your second book rather than Blood of Elves, it's also officially released in english today as it happens. From there you'll probably be in a good position to decide whether you want to keep reading more and/or move onto the games.

The gap in quality is insane, isn't it? So much stuff in DAI feels by the numbers, made with little care or thought and just a desire to create a ton of content in quantity. This game has so much content yet it all feels handcrafted.

Yeah, every side quest is as fleshed out as a main quest in DA:I. Witcher 3 has kind of ruined DA:I for me, don't see myself going back and finish it of after this.

for those going for 30fps on mid-end cards (2 gig 680 here), after the patch I can now crank up stuff I couldnt before and still mantain rock solid 30fps

basically have all on Ultra now. hairworks off.

I'm running at 30 as well, but I'm trying to push out well past Ultra, trying to get as close to reveal trailer as possible. Looking forward to seeing how the patch changes performance when I get home. My goal is as little pop-in as possible with as much fidelity as I can muster at 1080p.

Haven't seen them myself yet but it's not really a big spoiler to say that
witch hunters are people hunting down sorceresses after the events of Witcher 2.

Hmm, from my understanding witches themselves are different from sorceresses in the witcher universe. Any ways thanks, think I'll play the game more and see what lays ahead regarding them.

I took a screenshot of one of them, click to see.

Pretty awesome game.

But the movement controls in this game are just janky.

Also looting bodies and grabbing stuff sucks shit too - have to look in the direction of the stuff you're looting, and you can't loot something if you're right on top of it. It's like... just do a radius detection and open up everything that can be looted in one window at once. Don't make me click click click and walk walk walk and click click click. Stupid shit - and it ruins the game because of how much you're doing these sorts of small repetitive things due to poorly thought out design choices.

But the swimming controls... man the swimming controls are next level bad. It's like... they hired a guy to fuck their shit up. "Hey man, you're a specialist, and we need you to fuck the shit up out of our swimming controls."

Also I'm playing on a 21:9 monitor... waiting for new AMD cards to come out... in the mean time, I can't fuckin' run this game at 3880x1440 and have it run at reasonable rates. So why is it the only 21:9 option? Wouldn't you think I'd want to have other 21:9 options so that I can get reasonable frame rates?? Why do you hate me CDPR? Is it because I bought your game through greenmangaming?! Fuck!

Hey is there a way to make the hairworks active only on the mobs? That would be awesome, cause i really dislike the way ot looks on Geralt... plus it eats out 10fps on my end!

Thanks! Did a search a few days ago and saw Sword of Destiny wasn't out so glossed over it :)

Yeah I'll get The last Wish for now and see how that gets on. If I like it, I'll probably read all the books I can before I start playing the game

A few things -

The movement within small areas is somewhat annoying and clunky, just walking to face a door takes way more time than it should and has led to a few deaths walking over bridges and down stairs.

The leveling pace is perfect and I find that the main quests and big quests are enough to keep me leveled up. I haven't even been going out of my way to explore the ?.

If anyone is wondering, there are respec potions in this game for 1k. I haven't needed it yet.

Looting with Ciri was so much easier, wish there was a hotkey to loot all one with button press.

Does the innkeeper for the first area ever come back? I remember that he had some gwent cards and I never bought them, hopefully not missing out on the complete collection.

Hah they were not kidding about optimisation, I went from hairworks off, Shadow quality at high, Foliage density high in a rock solid 60 fps to ultra shadow, hairworks on, foliage density at ultra, still 60 fps.

Before the patch just turning hairworks on was putting me at 49-50 fps.

Tried to sell a gold ruby ring to the merchant in the first village and got a message saying 'The merchant does not have enough coin to purchase this item'. I love this game.

Really prefer how close the camera is to Geralt when you're over the weight limit

This is no need to denigrate other games in order to praise this one. DA:I was a very good game, but this game is genre defining and on a completely different level.

I think I could make an argument that it belongs on the same pedestal as GTA3, BG2, Starcraft, etc it's that good.

Isn't there a storage like a chest or someplace safe to leave the stuff I don't currently need?

It seems like there isn't. Which is really odd because both previous games had a storage at the inns but here apparently they removed it and added the horse saddlebags which up your carry limit, considering the crazy amount of crafting items that pile up in TW3, a storage system would have been great. Also I like to keep some of the cooler looking gear around for fashion purposes.

I never understood how that game was received so well. It was easily apparent how incredibly mundane everything in that game was when I was playing it.

I think it helps that the main quest is much more of a smaller scale and personal thing for Geralt. Sidequests where you're helping plot assassinations of kings and making real change in the world hardly feel like sidequests at all.

I am now playing W3 without HUD and i love it. I am playing on Normal but without HUD it is a bit harder because you can't see Stamina and Health or enemy health. It is awesome experience. For example i was wandering around WO and stumbled on hidden house where i got quest and later i completed that quest when i found place where i had to be to complete that quest. Sense of exploration is way better without HUD and mini map waypoints :D

Velen question: For Baron storyline:
Pretty sure I finished the questline with Return to the Bog quest, are there different endings the animated cutscene seems to imply it.

Man I am so bummed out that the game isn't working for me on PS4 no matter what method I try. :(

Guess it's time to wait for the patch.

They are different, but a Sorcerer/Sorceress Hunt just doesn't have the same ring to it when you're trying to rally the common people.

15 minutes til works over, 45 minute drive home, then I'm on. Today has been extra slow.

Are those on PS4?

Also, how many haircut and beard options are there? I went to Oxenfurt and there were only like 5 haircuts available. I have the DLC downloaded.

Dunno, didn't check. Although, I assume not. :(

Also, I don't know how many beards.

Yeah but then I found a tower and the tower had a mystery and I had to solve the mystery!

Haha, That's a good game right there.

Well, what ending did you get? My ending:
I freed the tree spirit which proceeded to have the nearby town go mad and massacre each other, then saved the children from the Crones. The Crones punished Gran for letting the children get away by turning her into a water hag and cursing her to die. I managed to reverse the water hag curse but she was doomed to death regardless. She died, the daughter cried, the baron got depressed and told me to meet him at his usual spot. Instead I found him hung from a tree.

Good game so far; I have to say that the dialogue and general banter between characters has surprised me heavily. The voice acting can occasionally be iffy, but the actual writing's great. The worst issues I have with the game are the absolutely TERRIBLE tank-y controls and the absurdly small font size used in menus. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised seeing as CDPR haven't made halfway decent controls in any of their games, but this is the worst iteration so far.

CDPR, fire your animators and whoever else is responsible for the shit controls. "Gör om, gör rätt" as they say in Sweden.

Wow. I thought I went about that quest the wrong way but I'm glad I killed the tree now.

GAH that werewolf in that Neillen mission is a real son of a bitch. I clear the room, keep a steady hit rate on him but sometime after the midpoint it starts to regen its health faster than I can hit it. I keep the blade oiled and have Devils puffballs and fire hits going out but I can't get him below the last quarter of health.

AFAIK you have to
craft a silver bomb so he stops regening. Its the only way to beat him . Im also stuck on that quest because I have no idea how to craft it. Im hoping you find out later. I just left him under his house.

No there isnt

You don't actually the bomb. Upgraded weapon + the potion that increases your damage for like 40 seconds is more than enough to overcoem the werewolf. I think I did that at like level 4 or 5 pretty easily.

Ha! Same situation i'm in now. About to start the quest towerful of mice (at least i think that's the name) and i've read in this thread that it's great. Really hard to stop playing but i've got work early tomorrow! Will enjoy it tomorrow instead, it will just be me, Geralt and an expensive whisky tomorrow night.

Auto-centering camera is still pissing me the fuck off. Like every two seconds. God I hate this shit. It's the worst on the horse (because it kicks in so fast), but annoying everywhere.

Yeah, I hope they patch the auto-center camera out. Really annoying.

Yeah it's crazy how varied the same scene looks at different times of day and weather conditions. Took me 5 in-game days of meditation to make this shot. 95% of the time you simply can't see that far out with the fog and rain!
