It will have player created characters, but we should know by now not to judge CDProjekt's decisions by Bioware and Bethesda's standards :p

I don't mind most of the armours, they're consistent with the world but the worst by far are those blue leggings which make Geralt look like he's wearing some bootcut jeans.

Huh the main quest in Skellige seems
very short
. I'm gonna assume I will
be going back here in a bit.

I've to say, after 40 hours, I'm slowly getting burned out. The main story unfortunately has yet to grab me. My fears that the search for Ciri will turn Geralt into an errand boy for the sake of getting clues on her location came true. There were some better bits - Triss, the Keira dungeon.. But for a lot of time, you're consigned to doing things that don't have a lot to do with Ciri and Wild Hunt. Given that the Emperor seemingly gave this matter the highest priority, you should have gotten the option (as neat as that questline was) "Fuck your problems baron, you're Emhyr's subordinate and he wills you to tell me about Ciri." Ciri's flashbacks are a neat narrative device to make you care about her but they aren't very fun from the gameplay standpoint.

Apparently this game has cheated me out of every getting Insectoid Oil.

There's a locked chest in White Orchard that gives it, and you open with the Temerian Lily key. I have the key, but the chest won't open at all. Fuck.

Oh wait, Keira Metz sells it. But she's no longer available as a vendor. Fuck.

Fucking CDPR.

I love how much hidden stuff there is in this game. Last night I found a spy note hidden in Novigrad while using my Witcher Senses looking for loot.

Also, it looks like loot reappears in some chests. I revisited Bloody Baron's courtyard and found a new alchemy recipe in a chest that I previously emptied.

I think I've run into that XP bug, didn't get any XP from a few main story quests.

Not really sure what to do, I don't keep backup saves.

You can find those basic oils all over the place it seems. I was missing hybrid oil for the longest time but I ended up finding it in a chest in some random bandit camp. My friend bought that same oil from a vendor.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
There are a lot of little things that I just don't understand how they didn't catch in quality controls.

so many instances I have to interact with something but the interact icon doesn't come up.

Making the run and interact button the same www kinda dumb.

The stories are wrong and poorly reported. The bug exists in all versions of the game despite the fact that each platform is on a totally different patch cycle. Rolling back won't fix it.
Well, all that matters is CPDR is aware of the issue and they're going to fix it.

The only problem is that it seems like it takes a while for a patch to go through cert, so I'm looking at the next few days of no witchering.

Playing on PS4. Game is absolutely amazing. Disabled all UI except for my health and bosses, and its so immersive. Just hit level 14, and finally reached Novigrad.

What about you man? how you liking this? apart from the easter eggs. I have noticed a few.
The whole Hattori name with him making dumplings, was pretty funny.

I am one level away from finally upgrading my griffin armor. At least i can use my upgraded swords. I also found the usrise set, so i can craft that, but its higher level. It looks pretty badass. I am also, heading north to find the cat school set, so i can go search for that.

Loving it tho.
fought the royal wyvern... got annihilated by a basilisk... TWO basilisks... and i met a giant where the ursine armor is, that just stomped on me.
:) Best game ever.
Same, I'm on PS4 as well, (I hope to see you on MGO!)

I saw your post a few pages back about turning off the HUD for exploring, it worked for a bit, but I switched it back on and regretted it because I got pissed at the breadcrumbs again lol.
But that is is my only gripe with the game and I'm loving it so far.
Definitely my GOTY so far (until MG).

I've just unlocked the enhanced Griffin armour and swords too, will be crafting them tonight :)
Oh and speaking of "Bosses" I decided to travel to the very bottom of Velen to a swamp area, (not the Crones one) and got completely rekt by 4 nightwraiths.

I'm loving the structure of the side quests in this game, they are individually made with the same love and attention that they gave the main quests, certainly CDPR have raised the bar very high for future open world games.

Edit: Oh yeah 300+ posts and still rocking my Junior tag lol.

Edit 2: Regarding Hattori,
the sword you get from him is under-levelled but you also get a diagram from him to craft the level 24 sword which is a lot better.

Love some of the quotes on the Gwent cards.

"He ploughing' wear golden armor. Golden. 'Course he's an arsehole"

Haven't been this addicted to a game within a game since triple triad, just wish it were a bit easier to find a game like it was for triple triad.

Just make sure you get xp for every green quest you complete. Keep a save handy in case you don't.

Does the bug not give you XP without displaying the message? I haven't really been paying attention but during quests I've been getting messages about getting XP.

Gothic 1 & 2, which CDPR namedropped a lot during development. Risen 1 to a lesser extent. Ultima IV-VII. Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas to a lesser extent.

The Gothic games are great about having lots of landmarks and sensible hidden locations. Exploring them is fun, and fighting high level enemies gives you high level rewards. Lots to find and do, without any of it being marked in a game-y way. Its easy to find your way around.

Ultima has much of the above, as well as a ton of interactivity. There's a lot to do outside of the "main" quest or side combat quests. The companions you get are pretty fully-formed, and react to the most minor stuff (see: getting tips from them while you bake bread).

Fallout games tend to do what TW3 does on a more personal scale in a bit more grand a fashion, more like TW2 did. Gothic does the same; there are decisions that will make entire factions friends or enemies, and it affects every moment of gameplay afterwards.

In practice, TW3 reminds me more of a really good, story-driven take on the GTA/RDR formula, rather than following in the footsteps of the best open world RPGs. The more I play it the less I care, though. It's still one of the best games I've played in a long, long time.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Those are some of my favorite CRPGs as well.

Personally, I think CDPR acheives and eclipses what the Gothic games aspired to. The only thing I do think Gothic did better was the quest rewards but considering the size of the W3 world compared to Gothic I think some level of dynamic reward scaling and generation is appropriate. Otherwise I think Witcher 3 nails the "hey, what's the cool location on the horizon, I want to go there" aspect as well as any game ever has. Almost every single neat little location has something of value whether equipment (including potion/gear recipes), higher level monster, and/or story and lore.

I have a lot of heartburn with other open world games where sometimes it seem like the the map designers do an incredible job of creating interesting locations but the content side doesn't hold up and there is nothing of interest to do there. Witcher 3 almost always backs everything up with actual content which is staggering considering the fidelity of the game world.

The Witcher series has always done Choice & Consequence as good or better than any other developer but I think there approach is a bit different. They did kind of toy with something similar to the faction system of the Gothics with the different Act 2 in Witcher 2. Given the personal nature of the stories as well as what Witchers themselves represent, I think it makes perfect sense that they didn't go the full faction route like the Gothics or FO:NV.

And the reactivity with Witcher 3 is truly a step above what most games offer. The game seamlessly integrates prior, potentially out of order actions, in so many circumstances. I don't think most other games would have (Crookback Bog Main Story Spoiler)
Let you find Johnny's voice in the Harpy nest before even meeting Johnny in the game. Instead in Witcher 3 Geralt is all "oh, that nest up there? Yeah I already found this vase in it. Is this what you are looking for?"

I've been hearing about the xp bug with the latest update and i'm kinda scared.

I just started some missions in Novigrand, and everything i have completed has given me XP. I dunno if its plaguing everyone, or just certain instances. But no issues so far.

Same, I'm on PS4 as well, (I hope to see you on MGO!)

So true about the side quests. So far it doesn't seem like i am following a unique story. Just a witcher going around looking for Ciri. I think that format works super well. I am very involved with every task that is presented, and the longer quests and more like short story archs that open up more quests. I think thats awesome.

I gotta check Hattori some more. I think his quest is right now level 20 something. So i am not sure if i want to keep with it. but maybe i will, since you said the weapon is under level. I am rocking level 2 griffin weapons.

I have questions tho. Why did i need to change my currency in Novigrad? whats the difference?

Thats about it tho... we'll deffo play on MGO. Do i have you on my friends list?

So, two questions...

1. Does this game auto-switch to the correct sword type for you in combat? Seems like it does.

2. Can you ever run out of the alcohol needed to replenish your supplies while meditating?

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I don't have the skill that slows time for bombs... so it's pretty hard to get off a throw against aggressive mobs like drowners.

Plus, I get a little clumsy/nervous in these fights knowing how long the load time is if I screw it up. I made the mistake of starting the mission before I was ready, and now on each retry I have to go into inventory and redo everything... and this game's inventory is atrocious. Especially the menu lag.

Anyway,,, this is really the first annoying quest do far. Really enjoyed the rest.

Bomb throwing, even just quick tap-throws without aiming, is way too slow. Geralt can efficiently draw his sword for a quick slice from almost any animation, but so often the delay on tapping the bomb button and when the actual thing launches is so disparate that often it whizzes right past enemies heads, or Geralt himself is caught in the blast because the moment of opportunity is long gone and the enemies are within melee range while the throw tracks its target super close. Just unreliable especially when trying to set up that perfect group hit against fast moving trash like Nekkers or Drowners. I use bombs regularly, but they consistently are a fumbling block in execution with their long delay time.

1. Yes it does. You can also select the weapon using the d pad left and right. Left for regular, right for silver. You can holster your weapons with those as well.

2. I personally, have never run out of them. But i also loot everything i see.

Hopefully they can hot fix it. Because they haven't even issued a patch for the issue on PC yet and those don't have to through cert. So if it does go through cert then it's probably at least 5 days off on consoles.

Just make sure you get xp for every green quest you complete. Keep a save handy in case you don't.

Don't know that it's that straightforward. Quest XP scales based on difficulty. Based on Youtube videos I believe there are some (usually small) quests on higher difficulties that won't give XP even though they will on Normal and below.

1. It does, but sometimes I start fighting with only my fists for some reason.

2. I imagine you could, I haven't yet but I've also seen the game use Dwarven Spirit instead of Alcohest.

Yes and yes, though the later of which is almost impossible. Even if you were to run out, they're easy to find and cheap to buy.

I think I have the exp bug, completed "Cabaret" and moved to another connected quest, but I didn't get any exp for "Cabaret" and I don't remember getting any exp for each of the phases, in both quests. On the other hand, I did get 20 exp for paying 200 gold in one of the phases. I think I'll wait for the patch to be safe.

I couldn't have said it better myself about the side quests!

I did his story when I was level 11 (it was a pain in the arse)
I'd probably recommend doing it the required level anyway just because when your approaching it you'll want mastercrafted armour which he can make.

There is 3 different currencies I think so you exchange the 2 others for the one everyone uses, it's a bit stupid tbh.
PM me your ID and ill add you later. Ill also PM the others at our Comm thread.

I don't think they've said anything definitive, the game is likely not even in development right now. However, they've talked at length about staying true to the original role playing game, and for that, I'd assume that it would be a player created character.

If you have the XP bug and you think you're behind, and you're on the skellige isles at about level 20, there is an easy way to gain XP semi quickly.

On the eastern part of the main big island almost totally east of Gedyneith, you may have to go south a tiny bit but it's on this road near where the bit of map that juts out like a thumbs down is.

There is a level 30 cyclops that gives about 50 XP per kill. He respawns instantly when you meditate at all for any duration.

He's tough as hell and I would not recommend fighting him with your swords (if you're not near his level he'll kill you in 2 hits), instead use Igni fire stream he's incredibly weak to fire, igni fire stream starts off doing almost no damage but the tail end of the fire stream hits him for about 2200. Should only take about a minute to kill him. What I do is put quen up so I can get hit once and bail out if I need to, hit him with the fire stream then roll out of the area so he "resets". Then do it over again until he dies. You can even get him stuck in an area and just burn him down.

Sorry question, is the Emperor of the Southern army Ciri's biological father, who was cursed in past Witcher games? And Geralt saved him and claimed Ciri?

Why does the Emperor dislike Geralt? And why doesn't Geralt sort of hate the Emperor for destroying the North, when he was the one who sent that evil Witcher to kill the Northern king, who later also kidnapped Triss?

Also, how do I know what my Witcher 2 decisions are in my playthrough? What did CDPR decide was canon in regards to the more important Witcher 2 choices?

Yup.

It's the one called alcoholist. Or something like that. And it's expensive to craft since the ingredients are expensive to buy and rare to find.

I would be careful how often you meditate. I have like 45 of them atm, but I never meditate.

edit: oh wow dwarven spirit works as well? awesome.

Well if you ever run out of Alcholest you'll start using your dwarven spirits instead.

What's the point of the really high level equipment you can craft. I found a level 47 sword, but how would you even get to that level?

Also, are we expecting 1.04 and future patches to address framerate issues on PS4?

I dont want the game to get all buggy like Skyrim on PS3.

Does CDPR usually fix most of the issues? Im worried about continuing to play

It should, but I feel like I've seen it grab the wrong sword once or twice, so I keep an eye on it.

I've had it happen several times that I go for a Swallow on the gamepad, and must be pushing just a bit wrong, so isntead Geralt puts his sword away in combat.

2 questions:

1) Can people please be better at using spoiler tags? Many people still talk about the romance options like it's common knowledge, but it's not to people who didn't go through the game yet.

2) Where do you get those Griffin armor or swords everyone's talking about? Sounds like it's almost through the main quest, but I'm in Novigrad and haven't found any.

Hold up can someone just give me a quick summary of the XP bug? (has probably been said a few times but thread moves so fast)

My status: I have done quite a few ?s and side quests, I have just finished up the Baron's quest/Crones quest line. I'm supposed to go to Novigrad now I think. I am level 12 (probably a bit higher than what I should be now at this point?)

From what I understand, the XP bug occurs in Novigrad or something?

Just a bit of info on what to look out for. I don't know what the natural level progression should be but everything so far for me is going smoothly. I'm also playing it on the hardest difficulty.

I hope, by the time I get the PC version, there's a mod that ties the minimap to an item you can put in your item wheel. Occasionally the world map just isn't detailed enough when you need to enter buildings to find someone, would be so helpful.

So what level are people who finished the game ending at?

Cause if the cap is 70 and after 55 hours I'm only 22, either I have a metric shit ton of game left or you don't get anywhere near the cap.

You can straight up find them by blind exploring and that will open up the quest to search for more of that armor type and tier / but the intended way is to find merchants that have Maps and read them and those would start you off strong with the quest and some clues.

I heard in an interview that even though there's a level req you could still use items if you're below it. Anyone actually try doing this?
