Yen wasn't "out of the picture." Triss just failed to inform a freaking amnesiac about her relationship with Geralt. So yes, I can fault her. "The heart wants" is a shit excuse.

Anyways, just finished Yen's Last Wish quest. Freaking sweet.

Agreed. Imagine that you're secretly "in love" with your best friend's girlfriend/boyfriend. All of a sudden they have a freak accident and lose their memory and the fact that they are in a relationship and in love with your best friend. Is the appropriate response in such a circumstance to conceal their relationship with your BEST friend and then try to sleep with them or do you try and explain to them the truth about their past?

Triss is scummy as hell and even partly admits what she was doing was wrong in the game. Yen for LIFE!

Not just any woman, either. Triss and Yen were best friends. For decades, apparently. And first chance she gets, Triss just does some nasty shit.

I kinda respect that, tbh.

And yeah, Triss was totally fibbing there. She clearly could have taken Geralt to her at any time (again, according to what we know in the third game). But she didn't. Yeah, they were all sort of busy, but considering she can just teleport them around, it wouldn't have taken long.

Is this idea that sorceresses can always teleport to one another at any idea something that is revealed in W3 after you meet Triss in Novigrad? Because it doesn't track with what I've seen in Witcher 2 where Geralt enlists Phllipa to help track Triss and Phillipa says she needs something personal from Triss in order to do so.

Also, doesn't Triss think Yen is dead (dying with Geralt) when Witcher 1 starts? And she finds out otherwise when Geralt recovers his memories in Witcher 2? If that's the case then it takes at least some of the sting out of "hey, you were hiding my true love from me the entire time". It's more "Holy crap, Yen is alive? I will help you find her after we finish recovering your memories. Oops! I got kidnapped by Letho!"

My worst nightmare has come true, I think I've got the no XP bug.

I'm on level 13 and I just completed Pyres of Novigrad and I didn't get any experience whatsoever for completing it (although I still get XP for killing enemies). I'm pretty sure it's not a grey quest 6 levels below my level.

I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to play Gwent.

Try doing some contracts or sidequests and see if you still get XP. I think there are certain quests in the game that don't give out XP (especially on harder difficulties) so I don't think it's always cut and dried "No XP? Got the bug!". Unfortunately I don't know of anywhere that has published XP tables for the different difficulty levels and quests. The strat guide doesn't have them. So it's possible that a few of these quests just don't give XP.

I don't really want to play until the XP bug is fixed on Monday so I'm playing Gwent, won a few cards so far, last game was a nail biter. I need one more Nilfgardian unit card and I can switch to it, it's my strongest deck by far.

See, this guy right here. Solving problems, not being a baby. What a witcher.

Ugh the secondary quest "The Bastion" in Kaer Morhen is bugged for me. Did everything and buried the boy, and even got the quest completed notification. But right after I got the The Bastion Quest updated notification and it says I have to look around and find the boy's remains, even though I just did so. Bugged for anyone else?

I replayed the whole Now or Never quest, with different choices and still
anything I said before or after "stay with me" resulted in sex.

A question for those who got Triss to
stay without sex:

Did you kiss her in the masquerade?

At this point I'm sure it's either that, or then this crap is almost as complicated as the whole date system in FF7.

Ok this is cleared up now, it's a bug. Confirmed by a CDPR dev.

Only saying "I love you" is supposed to get you the sex scene, but for some people (like me) all choices trigger it because there's a bug.

It's bugged for me in that it keeps telling me to use the lamp even though I also completed it.

Yup, non-book readers should know that all the Sorceress/Sorcerers are OLD, Witchers also age slowly as well. Yennefer and Geralt are at least both just over 100 and while we don't know the exact age of Triss she is described as "younger" but that probably means she's like 60 or 70 given how long she's know Yen.

Killed my first Griffin. Was pretty tough. My timing of dodging its attacks was pretty shite so I died once but nailed it on the second attempt using a bunch of healing items. Had to rely on my protective spell to take some "free" hits. There was probably a catch to making this fight more manageable. Still, was awesome!

magic and chemicals keep you young baby.

As to Triss and Yen both clearly love Geralt, one simply had a fucking advantage that's bs. So you can't blame Triss for having her own.

I love how the limbs just explode off when you dismember the enemies. Too bad the "blood" looks like red paint on the character models :/

Where do you get money from in this game? I get very little and selling equipment generally gives you little. What am I missing? Especially where goods in shops tend to be pricey.

The first couple of hours you're going to be pretty broke. But once you get further in the game you'll be rolling in cash so I wouldn't stress about being poor.

you get money from selling equipment sadly. Just focus on picking up the blue/green/yellow/orange equipment. The white doesn't sell for shit.

I had the schematics for the bear school for swords and armor so I never had to use any of the 'relic' weapons besides prior to being able to use the bear gear. Since that point I sell everything for decent amount of money

Equipment sells for more as you go on (you'll get better drops) and make sure to clear out your junk tab. A lot of it is worthless, but the hides can add up pretty quickly.

So people did have or still have problems or hard time fighting the first griffin? I'm playing on Blood and Broken Bones difficulty, didn't made many sidequests in WO, I was level 3 and the griffin fight was without problems - no death whatsoever, used some potions and it was a really cool fight.. but as i said, a really easy one

Man, all y'all ragging on Triss. I can't support that perspective.
Geralt had no memory and she was in-love with the man for years before the memory loss. Can you blame her for finally taking her chance with Geralt now that Yen was seemingly out of the picture
? The heart wants what the heart wants.
I don't really blame her (=I understand her decision). The choice isn't easy.

Just met
Vernon Roche
. He looks nothing like he did in the earlier game, either, just like Triss... Bit irritating

Probably because they're a lot more detailed now.
I was playing a bit of TW2 today and after getting used to the detailed character faces of TW3, both Triss and
Vernon
look so much worse in TW2 :/ but the similarities are there.

The XP bug is so heartbreaking and depressing. I have so much other shit to do, yet all I want to actually do is play Witcher. But the bug is making it feel bad. God dammit.

I love/hate when a game gets stuck in my head like this. I'm off work, I ain't got shit to do, but I'm still installing Witcher 1 for my replay. All I want to do is shoot the shit about TW3. This is not healthy.

But for real, I hope the next DLC is a new game plus so I can re-obsess sooner than later.

Except that part had great importance to the plot and had story bits that could not have been told through cutscenes. I found it very integral to the entire crux of the final act and I didn't find having to run to be very taxing.

It's not that the part is taxing or whatever, it's that the gameplay element is boring and lifeless. This saps the energy from what should be a ominous and foreboding scene. There was no need to have that part be a minor running/platforming challenge. It should have been laser focused on the story.

Not sure what this bug is or if it has been seen before, but I have a destroyed monsters nest continously regenerating it's loot. Anyone seen this before?

I beat the game but I really need to distract myself with something else or I'll start a second playthrough soon.

Short of them introducing a long, overly-expository cutscene that stripped away all gameplay, you can't get more laser focused than running from one spot to another and picking up notes and clues along the way. Having to interact with the world in that state was much more immersive than ripping control away from the player for such an important part of the story. I disagree wholesale with your premises and conclusions and am totally happy they chose the route they took with it.

The problem with the romance is that there's never a point where it feels like you're supposed to turn down Yennefer. The option is there, but Triss's role in the story is pretty insignificant and there aren't many moments where you're interacting with her, while Yennefer is there constantly giving you shit about Triss whether you pick her or not.

You've disingenuously introduced a binary choice there. A "long, overly-expository" cutscene isn't the only alternative.

I appreciate you think differently, and realize we're not going to reach an agreement. But I'd appreciate not straw-manning my position.

If you save the tree, the children will be saved (the crone eat them, the villagers basically sacrifice the children to the crones). And the spirit takes vengeance against the village. Ultimately Baron will commit suicide as Anna will die. Not sure what happens if you side with the crones when it comes to Hannah, I reset the game before getting that far.
See the thing is im hearing conflicting reports now. Apparently
if you choose to make the Baron's dead child into a lubber before freeing the spirit then Anna doesn't commit suicide but the village does get destroyed. I guess I'll see soon.

I think there are some spots where they could have swapped Yenn out with Triss, namely the
last bit
but I think they sold the Triss romance very well. I definitely feel like the Triss option is the fan-fiction version though, and Yenn is what they intended players to go with. Still, the moments with Triss in the garden and in Novigrad, and
then later at the castle
really do a great job of showing two people in love. So, I bought it, but it's rough feeling like Mr. Scumbag when every NPC
is like "Oh, hey, heard you got back with Yennifer. Congrats!" Uh...well, see....

That would be an interesting interaction between the two quests. I'd love to know if that's the case.

What castle? You mean the mansion?
