The Zavvi Thread of Monumental Incompetence

This thread makes it sound like it's only a matter of time before they screw one of my orders up, though.

What alternatives would you guys recommend for someone buying from continental Europe? I basically only use amazon.co.uk/zavvi at the moment.

i like GAME as well.

Add TheHut to the shitlist as well since Zavvi is part of thehut group.

Still haven't gotten my Zelda 3DS from that place FFS.
It was supposedly shipped on the 13th. >:(

I've bought a lot of games from zavvi and had almost no problems until now...

My Infamous 2 shipped 3 weeks ago and STILL isn't here. DNF got here quite late too but it was 2 weeks "only".
Heck, I got TotA 3DS over the weekend even though it was sent from Osaka, Japan. So one would think that UK -> Mainland Europe would take less, but no.

If I get the games it's not much of a problem (for now anyway) so I'm hoping Infamous 2 shows up at my door this week...

Would never use them, been burnt in the past. The little saving you might make isn't worth the hastle when there are plenty of other UK and Euro retailers that deliver a better service.

I ordered the cheap blu-ray pack, and to be honest - I'm not sure how they could have fucked this up - it was CLEARLY labelled as a 1 day sale. The original price is £85ish...what price was the sale supposed to be?

I keep getting the feeling that The Hut Group (inc. Zavvi) just put these 'deals' up to get traffic, take all the extra orders that the extra traffic brings, then cancel the unprofitable deals that got them the extra hits in the first place...

or is that a bit too paranoid?

Nice, thanks. I'll give them a shot them.

Err, wait. Hacked? Man... lol

ShopTo's database was hacked a while ago. pretty big bruhaha on GAF a year or two ago. probably fixed by now. i don't mind reordering from them if they have any exclusive LEs again.

I like how I had to post on their Facebook to get an answer about stock of an order I made, rather than them emailing me saying my dispatch date had been pushed back.

I remember when I pre-ordered Super Street Fighter 4 from them weeks in advance of it's release date.. And it still came the week after it was released.

From that day I vowed to never shop at Zavvi again.

Paranoid. This happens all the time on Best Buy and Futureshop's websites. Recently was a washer/dryer combo for $300 or so. Original price was something like 1500 and yet people ordered it expecting it to ship and complained profusely about them not honoring the listed price.

Some people forget what a ship date really is. Some companies have a ship date of 3-5 business days, which means it won't enter the postal service for almost a business week. From there it's another 5-10 business days.

Shopto were responsible for £500 being stolen from my bank account a day before I went on holiday. I'll never go anywhere near them again after that.

Gameplay.co.uk get all my business now. Can't fault their service.

I bought tons of games from various "Hut group" stores, and never had the problem of not getting a game at all or being charged the wrong amount. Shipping can sometimes take forever and the customer service sucks though.

I ordered (a really cheap copy of) AssCreed 1 PC from one of those stores over a year ago and actually got 2 shipped.

Delivery speed has never been a particularly strong aspect to zavvi's service - it's all about price. If you want games day one, order from amazon or shopto. I've never pre-ordered anything from them.

I hang fire on some day one purchases these days because my backlog is reaching breaking point. I'll usually check out zavvi on MM and see if anything I'm interested in has dipped below the magical £17.99 point. Delivery speed isn't usually important since I don't enter the site pent up, desperate for another game to play. If I place an order on the Monday it usually arrives Thursday or Friday (Scotland). I've never had an issue and I've saved hundreds of pounds on my 20 or so zavvi orders that I've done in this manner.

I order alot of stuff from Zavvi to Australia.
9/10 times I have had no problems.

A couple times items took extra long to arrive and a few books
got dented up, but for their low prices it is hard to complain.

Once I ordered a game, then cancelled, they didn't send the game but still charged me. Took me like 3 months and numerous e-mails (which took days to be answered) and empty promises to get it back from their inept customer service. That's just one example. Never again. I've been shopping on the internet for 12+ years and I've never experienced something on this level of horrible.

In contrast, I once ordered a game from simplygames.com that arrived with a cracked case. After one e-mail they quickly responded saying they'd send me a new case without me needing to send back the old one.

Never, EVER, shop from Zavvi. Not worth it, no matter how cheap you are. WHEN you encounter problems you'll be screwed.

Ordered KZ3 from their eBay outlet on Friday, arrived on Monday.
Never had any problems with them personally but not used them all that much.

Never had a problem with them. It only takes while for the stuff to arrive her ein Germany. I think this thread is a bit of an overreaction.

Oh I thought it was recent, since it seems like everyone else is getting hacked at the moment.

Not had a problem with Zavvi myself and customer service experience was alright too. I bought Enslaved the other day for £9.95, next day it was reduced to £7.95. I contacted them and asked for a £2 refund and they replied after a few days and my refund came through shortly after.

Ordered several games from Zavvi, didn't have a lot of problems though. Except for one of them, al my other orders were here with a week.

I've used Zavvi on occasion without any issues at all, until now.

Early this morning I ordered a Blu-Ray box set of action films which was on a one-day special offer. My order went through and was confimed at the discounted price. A little later on I checked my order status only to find that I had been charged approximately EIGHT TIMES the offer price, and EIGHT TIMES my previously-confirmed amount!

Whisky. Tango. FOXTROT!

Could I cancel the order? Could I fuck. Not without spending half an hour on hold to their services dept.

The excuse they offered? Prices can go up, even during the ordering process.

What a clusterfuck. So glad I checked.

I'll treat this as a one-off but: buyer beware.

Never had any massive problems but they are pretty slow. Didn't get my Tactics Ogre until almost a week after release day and it took them about a week after I ordered the Baccano! to actually dispatch it to me. Still, they're cheap so that's something.

I often order stuff at zavvi and overall i'm pretty satisfied , other than the shipping times being completely random (anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks for continental Europe) i don't have any serious complaints , the free shipping , low prices and lots of -10% coupons make it worth the occasional long wait for me.

I have a question. Why amazon.co.uk and play.com have weak casing (portal2 , ACB, DS2)

while zavvi had hard casing for ACB and all the other games? I'm thinking on not ordering more drom amazon.co.uk or play.com because i HATE the weak case.

2 full weeks for the Witcher 2 special edition to arrive at the end, and the price went down the day before but I got the old price.

Im from spain and the email told it would be around 2 weeks max so it didnt have more importance. But all these replies are getting me never try to buy them again.

Used Zavvi quite a bit and only time I had an issue (got Disaster Day of Crysis open) it was solved easily, though that was years ago and apparently the customers service has went to hell since.

Now a days I mostly use Amazon (international shipping on orders over 25 pounds).

My issue with GAME and Gameplay is that I've often got opened "new" copies, sometimes in pretty bad conditions. So I avoid using them unless it's a pre-order.

Probably just got lucky but with me they just cancelled the order.

Zavvi is a joke of a company, I'm still waiting for my copy of dead rising 2 which I ordered in January. Shit customer service and slow as fuck to respond to anything.

I will never ever shop there even if the product is cheaper.

never used Zavvi never will.

I remember there was Zavvi after Virgin stores on Tottenham Court Road. Next thing I saw is a jumble sale of clothes that looked like something from Hackney market. Zavvi closed their retail chain like Virgin. And this is on prime retail.

I don't know what's there now, anyone?

If, after reading all of this, anybody still fancies taking a spin on the Zavvi lottery, remember that they offer a Paypal option - use this! It offers one more layer of protection between you and the clowns.

The PayPal option doesn't work, unfortunately. They never prompt you to login to your PayPal account. Actually just ordered Pikmin 2 Wii and Xenoblade Chronicles from them last night, but used a temporary credit card number just for this transaction due to warning on CAG about poor security at zavvi.com/thehut.com.

This is the worst thread I have ever seen on NeoGAF.

Why? They need to be exposed. Even if the evidence is anecdotal, impressions of Zavvi are overwhelmingly negative compared to other online retailers.

Strange. I only use paypal now that they have it as an option. Sorry to hear it doesn't work for you.

Tbh, I think play.com are worse when it comes to shipping times. And their GBP to Euro conversion, ugh.

Amazon is supposed to be quick, but I haven't had much luck with their delivery times either.

However, from yor post, I can still understand your anger.

Firstly, the thread is slanderous from its title onwards.

But further, a lot of the complaints are just stupid. Things taking a long time to arrive or arriving broken? Give me a break. That's not Zavvi's fault, that's their postal service. Zavvi aren't personally delivering these parcels to your house/country, you know.

Then there's the fact that this is nothing to do with gaming.

Then there's the fact that the OP is just overly paranoid. Maybe there really was a problem with his payment card. It's all coincidence.

Then there's the fact that most of the complaints are from people who tried to defraud Zavvi by exploiting pricing and offer errors, then got pissed off because they got found out. Well boo fucking hoo.

Then, and perhaps most importantly, there's the fact that even though everyone's all "BOYCOTT ZAVVI" they'll be all over the next deal posted in the Cheap Arse GAFfer thread, because they've got no willpower at all.

The whole thread is a pointless waste of time.

Never had a problem with Zavvi, except for the awful shipping time. But if I can buy Portal 2 for £13 I can wait a week or two.

Yeah same, I tend to just use them for cheap Games. If I want a game day one I have to buy it locally in a shop anyway since I've yet to ever get a Game shipped on time to Ireland from numerous online stores :/

Zavvi has served me well over the years price wise.

Recently, a promotion was offered where you could buy a cheap and nasty sweater and receive around 50% on a game. Many enterprising GAFfers realised that you could actually pop 2 games in your cart at 50% off with one sweater. Sadly, this was also a pricing mistake and the orders were cancelled. Well, most of the orders - the nasty overpriced sweater was still charged for and despatched. Ironically, these arrived pretty much instantaneously.
This one is hilariously passive aggressive. The rest of the stuff in the OP sounded horrible.

Used them once for a preorder a few years ago which they couldn't be bothered dispatching until the Saturday after the game came out.

These days I pretty much always use ShopTo. Fast delivery at no extra cost, usually the cheapest and they always get the stuff to me before launch.

Please stop that defraud nonsense. There's no way to make a fraud by using the regular web page with regular discounts. It's just their incompetence not checking what should be possible and what's not. And no it's not obvious which deals are ok and which are a mistake.

Zavvi cancels orders without notice, ships and charges items from cancelled orders and sends out wrong items. Doesn't sound like normal behaviour.

Should I worry that I just placed orders for Disaster and Another Code through them... shipping to the USA?

No you shouldn't, normally they are ok, but the recent events show that their customer service is unable to cope with problems.

Never had any problems with them, abd they reply pretty fast. They did make a mistake I ordered 1 Zelda OOT 3D, but I am getting two, they also took 2 of my CC. I have to sell that one online.

But as of late my package take 3 weeks to get here... before it was 5 days but I think it has to do with the postal services here in The Netherlands and in the UK.

Here in The Netherlands they fucked up the postal service :( Going private and shit..
