James Gunn posted an image with him and the light cycle.

h @jimmyurine & the #Tron cycle (which has mysteriously shown up in our conference room on the #Disney lot)."
Article is saying that might be the connection with him taking over directing duties on 3. Fits well with the facebook posts if they're not trolling.

Speaking with ScreenRant, producer Brigham Taylor (who worked on The Jungle Book for Disney this year) said that he still has hope that TRON 3 will actually come together at some point:
I always hope for that. I just had a wonderful visit to Shanghai, where they have an amazing attraction based on Tron Legacy. The designers just did such an amazing job creating the feeling of stepping onto The Grid, and that indelible visual world that Lisberger created and Kosinski explored… and I think there’s a real stickiness to that that I hope can grow into a film or whatever else. So I don’t know what I’d ‘hint’ at other than that I hope for that, and that there’s obviously been conversations.

The sudden stopping of Tron: Ascension when it was about to start filming was a hurtful blow. It's good to know that Tron 3 is still on the table in some capacity. Hopefully it's not a 20+ year wait for the next one though.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Can they get it a script that isn't complete tripe and actors who give a damn.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
It's too bad Bruce Boxleitner says that he's pretty much fed up with false hopes at this point.

I hope it's the same director if it does happen. He clearly doesn't know how to go beyond surface level themes and outright copying (shout out to Oblivion) but he makes some beautiful-looking movies.

Ya I don't give a fuck about a deep Tron movie

Kosinski makes some incredible looking movies, fucking hell

I got Tron Legacy free with my 3D TV, as someone that never liked the original all that much, my expectations were pretty low.

Probably one of the most pleasant surprises I have ever had with a film, I thought it was fucking brilliant. Doesn't hurt that the 3D Blu ray is a 10/10 in the AV department.

Honestly, all Kosinski needs is a top tier screenwriter and he's pretty much all set in making a excellent sci-fi film. It's just that has never been case with his previous films.

I mean yes, Tron Legacy and Oblivion are a little underrated but I really think he's got potential to dish out something truly above and beyond

I'd honestly they just remake Tron and reflect the realities of technology in our lives while still making it about diving into an artificial computer created reality. Love to see them touch on things like social media and so forth but that's probably a tall order for Disney. Then again they did give us Zootopia which was pretty damn topical and didn't dance around it.

I haven't seen Oblivion, but Tron Legacy is poorly directed. I wouldn't even say it's a great film visually. It's amazing for 20 minutes or so but the design is so monotonous that you've quickly seen everything there is to offer. The original Tron looks much more interesting.

Legacy's an extremely bad, extremely gorgeous movie. I'm down for more of that art style and it'll be less grating without The Dude in it.

The thing about Tron 3, is that it's unknowable. It's impossible but it's also right in front of us all the time. You wouldn't know that because I didn't when I saw Tron Legacy.

I'm sorry, GAF. I'm sorry.

Tron Legacy was hot trash, but given Disney's recent track record I'd be excited for what could be a redeeming sequel.

The heart wants what the heart wants.

But rationally I don't see this happening or if it does it'll be gutted like the Pacific Rim sequel.

Real being real here, if they were going to do it, having it stopped a month before production is probably the killer. Nobody would want to get burned again.

You know I'd rather Daft Punk just do another Tron Album, the movie was so so. Visual and Aural treat for sure. But as a movie?

Meh.

...this is as close as we're likely to get and it's a shame more people didn't watch it because it's pretty good stuff.

Seriously, the best things to come from Legacy were it's soundtrack and this show.

I just don't see it. Disney has too much going on right now for Tron to be necessary. Between Star Wars, Marvel, and their live action remakes of their older films, and their animated stuff, I'm not sure why they'd feel the need to bring Tron back out.

Don't get me wrong, I'd watch the shit out of it. I like Legacy a lot, if only for the audiovisual experience. I just don't see why they'd bother.
