This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Why are Japanese developers usually better at making deeper and better combat systems compared to Western companies?

It's a question that's always been on my mind, I feel like the best action games I have ever played are froum Japanese developers

Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, DMC 3, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising, Dragons Dogma... I guess its only really Platinum and Capcom, but still? I feel like they just understand the intricacies better than most Western devs.

Those in bold are mostly at the same genre/gameplay type. It's likely your taste.

Western also do good games like those, but, normally, the things around us(i.e. culture) influence our decisions. It's likely to have more Japanese doing those types of games than Western developers.

this is kinda tricky

I live in Mexico, eShop prices are ridiculous, and retail games are at the same price

Now, I have a US Amazon account

Will US Amazon game codes work with a Mexican account?
I know US currency codes won't work, but what about games
I bought the Nintendo humble bundle and I was able to redeem all games in my Mexican account, but I don't want to spend money in a code I won't be able to

Kinda weird, I know, but for example, Kirby Robobot is 999 MXN here, which is around 54 USD.. both digital (eShop) and retail...

Just to put it in perspective, with the amount of money needed to buy robobot here in mexico, I could have bought robobot, a large pizza, some coca cola, andi would have a few coins left...

Help this poor pizza-less soul in need gaf members u.u

What the fuck is an Amibo used for?

The NFC tag on the amiibo is scanned by the gamepad and unlocks exclusive content, scanning a Fox amiibo in Starfox Zero will unlock a special retro mode, scanning a captain falcon amiibo in Mario Kart 8 will unlock a captain falcon costume, it depends how the developer supports and uses them

Depends heavily on the game. Read-only uses are typically simple unlocks or giving you some type of in-game resources, while Read/Write opens the possibility for deeper interaction.

So, like bought in shop DLC?

When the updated consoles are released, would there be any problems having one version of a multiplayer game such as Destiny at 30 fps and the other at 60 fps?

Read-only use is often pretty close to that, yes. Though, in some games, it would be closer to reusable microtransactions.

Read/Write gets more complicated.

When the updated consoles are released, would there be any problems having one version of a multiplayer game such as Destiny at 30 fps and the other at 60 fps?

Depends on how the game (particularly the netcode) works internally.

These guys might know.

More like resellable on-disc DLC.

I have a 720p TV. How come when my consoles auto-detect the resolution it defaults to 1080p? My TV even shows 1080p message on screen but that would be impossible with the TV's real resolution. Why does it say that?

Does anyone else think the angle that you have to put the micro usb charged into the back of the controller is weird. I use the same chords and devices all the time. USB drive, phones, etc. None of them give me any issues, but for whatever reason I have to like fiddle with it for me a minute.

Do you have the exact model of the TV I find it odd your TV is saying 1080p

I have a canadian eshop account but want to buy a digital code for #FE on Amazon US, as I have a gift code there.

Will it work? Can I change my account region to US just to redeem de code?

Eshop cards are specific to a particular country, so you can only redeem them on systems set to that country.

I believe he says he has a gift code on amazon US for currency, not sure, I have the same question, but my account is from mexico, guess i'll end up buying a small VC game to try it out

I believe it doesn't matter as the eshop cards give you codes to input and they are region locked.

If it is a game code, its nintendo. Most likely region locked as well.

GAF HELP! I lost my new 3DS :( I'm pretty sure I forgot it on the plane earlier, but they won't help me. :(

Are my digital purchases gone? Is there something that can be done with those fancy new Nintendo accounts?

Did you link a Nintendo Network ID to your New 3DS? If so, your purchases are fine, and can be recovered with a phone call to Nintendo.

If not, do you have the serial #? If you have that available, you can likely recover your purchases with a phone call to Nintendo, but no guarantees.

If neither of those apply to you, then you're probably screwed.

Thanks for the help! Yeah, I believe my Nintendo Network ID is linked to the machine. I'm gonna try that. I need to get a new new 3DS before I bother calling them, right?

Why the fuck can't you use your PayPal along with Xbox Credit to pay for a game? I'm trying to buy RE5 on Xbox One and I have some MS credit but not enough to buy the whole thing. In order to pay the rest it's making me add a credit card. Why the fuck can't I just use my PP?

Fucking Bullshit.

Probably fees/chargebacks.

Suppose someone made an open world game with the graphics, textures, etc. dialed down to the point that the entire map, including all objects like cars, trees, etc. were loaded in at all times.

What would that game look like?

There are ways to drastically increase Morrowind's draw distance. To the point where you don't get anything useful out of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcplPDi7Wms
So, things would look at least that good.

No idea how any of this runs on current hardware. OpenMW (open source re-write of the engine) might include options for this in the future, unfettered by a decrepit engine that doesn't take full advantage of modern hardware.

Thanks for looking into it. Youtube would only play like 5 seconds of that video for me but I'm impressed.

For me the appeal lies in a sense of granularity, Not "See that mountain; go there", rather, "That mountain (or tree, npc, et al) exists whether the player see it or not" .

Is there a puzzle game thread that I'm not aware of? I have my puzzle fix atm, after playing Stephen Sausage Roll and now Snakebird and Hexcells (+ always failing at SpaceChem).

I noticed that Drawful 2 is out on PSN, and as someone who had been interested in the original but had never played it, I have a few questions.

Is the game playable (by playable I mean fun/worth playing) with just 3 players, and is there a way to get it to work with 2 players playing locally, and one player over the internet, either with share play or that jackbox.tv thing?

Here's a review of the exact same TV I have:
https://youtu.be/eJzSjUs_uHU

You sure its not 1080i?

Yep, the review above says it's a 720p set but I guess since it receives 1080p signals it claims it's 1080p when it's not??

Wonder if this is new thread worthy but a Kong post.

Got a gaming laptop yesterday (Asus GL552V) now it is mainly for RTS and I know for that new games will probably play ok at low specs for a good frame rate but I have One and PS4 for that).

But I need to know:
1) I have all the command and conquers. What other RTS like that are worth my time?
2) I've become obsessed with fallout 4 on mods, anyone point the right place to find out how to make mods work and install them on PC for fallout 3, New Vegas and elder scroll games?
3) how do I work the Xbox one streaming

My stupid question of the day:

Does sitting to close to a monitor cause motion sickness? Been gaming for 30 years and never got sick once. Well I just bought a monitor (had my PC hooked up the TV) and Im using a tiny desk while I search for a proper computer desk. Well I purchased doom and was playing it like a foot away from a 27" monitor (gysync, running at about 100 fps average) and started feeling terrible. I tried to play through it and got worse. Anyone have experience with this?

Sounds like it's not filling up your field of vision. It might actually not be close enough. I had similar issues when I went from a bigger TV to monitor, I put the monitor where I had the TV, had issues until I moved it closer so it filled up my FoV.

You may also want to mess with the FOV settings in games.

Can I offer a $5 paypal tip for anyone who explains and fixes a problem?

My Xbox One controller is a ghost : Sometimes I'll play a game - like Overwatch now - and it'll spin, walk wherever, do what it wants for 30 seconds or so then ill have control, then do its own thing again.

It was my Halo controller but my new Elite is what is doing it now.

Same : Battery pack. Ps4 gold headset.

Could it be my first party battery pack? Would charging via phone charger make it screwy in game? My xbox - with its damn side usb - is too far from where i game to use the regular cable.

Where would I go to find sound effects from games? Specifically, Amaterasu's various barks, growls, and whines from Okami. Googling has only brought me the tools to rip them myself, but that's a lot of work just to theme my phone.

I don't know why it happens, but something similar would happen to me in Destiny sometimes. It was the headset. Next time the problem occurs, pull your headset cable and see if it stops.

Thanks,

I'll give that a shot. Tried again and fared much better. Only played for a half hour but it was smooth sailing so hopefully it was a 1 time thing.

Is there a current game on console or PC that will give me that MMO feel without the MASSIVE timesink?

What's one of the most fun MMO games out now?

There was a game on the PS3 (and maybe the 360, I'm not sure) that was a Strider clone, but wasn't actually a Strider game. But I think it might have been made by the creator of the original Strider. I can't for the life of me remember the name of that game. I've tried googling a million variations of "games similar to Strider" but I can't find the game I'm looking for. Anyone know what game I'm thinking about?

Is there an explanation for this shape in some Snes Cartridges?

H0ozJF6l.jpg

I never saw anything like this in pal / jp cartridges. The shape allows to remove them with the console on, but still can't understand it. Can it be related to the slim snes or something?

Why is day of the tentacle Vita always online?

Apparently somebody never thought that a console may be offline, specially if we are talking about the handheld. That error also seems to affect Broken age, and I have to wonder if it appears on Grim Fandango. Reported, they said they were going to fixit, only poor workarounds in the end. Or why I don't trust vita ports from DoubleFine.

Mainly, those games seem to always check the network to see if there are more recent savefiles (built-in cross save), but I think it can't be disabled. It would be as easy as doing like in Persona 4 Golden: Fucking ask if the console is going to be online before starting.

I use a phone charger so I don't waste battery and this happens to me sometimes. I usually just take it out for a few minutes or restart the game if it doesn't stop. Kind of annoying but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

And people long for cross saves on NX…
