This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

So...I just bought Far Cry 4 on PSN, only to realize after the fact that I got it for PS3 rather than PS4? How hard would it be to get a refund, or get it exchanged for the PS4 version?

I would definitely talk to a customer service rep person and see what they say. You might have to get a manager assuming something can be done.

Do you even have a PS3 activated on PSN? That might help your case not that it really matters overall though.

I've heard people get refunds from time to time even though they have a pretty explicit policy on them so I'd definitely still ask and see what happens.

They shouldn't do that, but I know what you are talking about. A friend of mine bought a Quantum Break bundle that came with a white controller and right out of the box the A button would take a half-second to pop back up after being pressed. Felt like it was rubbing ever so slightly against the casing. He called MS and they replaced it, but it was brand new so definitely still under warranty - not sure what your warranty situation is.

I've had controllers go sticky from kids' spilling stuff before and most of the time wiping down with rubbing alcohol does the trick.

Cheers for the reply. I doubt my controller is worthy of being replaced (the delay is pretty subtle, I doubt most people would class it as a fault) but I'll have a look for my receipt anyway.

I have seen a push about Pharah being an amputee but widowmakers default ankles are to thin to be her god given ankles. So wheres all the push behind my theory????

Can I delete game from my Xbox One but keep the save files for story modes and stuff? Does it always delete everything related to each game?

If I buy a digital copy of a PS4 game that I already have on disc and is installed on my system, will the full game download or will it see that I have it installed and just give me license to play without having to have the disc inserted?

The system will not need to download any additional data.

How do Steam achievements/badges work?

Can you sell achievements to others so they can make badges?

How?

Badges and achievements are two different things.
You can make badges from trading cards, that are a totally different thing and not skill based rewards (unlike achievements). It's overtly complicated imo, but you can easily ignore or sell them. Making a few extra pennies through them is quite nice though.

It works basically like this: each game that features cards (not all do) have a predetermined number of card drops that grant you virtual trading cards of that particular game. For example, a game features 8 different cards that form a set. Playing the game grants you 4 free card drops - you might even get 4 times the same card, it's just the amount that is for free. You can trade these cards on the marketplace and/or sell and buy them. If you get a complete set of a game (= all different cards), you can make a badge out of them that grant you meaningless rewards (special icons and emoticons for steam for example) and increases your possibility of earning even more cards.

Achievements are only skill based and work the same way as trophys for PS and the xbox ones. That means comparing your e-peen to others.

To add to the achievement side of things, measuring epeen with it on Steam is pointless since there is no real security system in place to ensure they are locked properly. You could very easily download an application to mark all of them unlocked with a single click.

Some badges (Like community) have tasks applied to them instead of cards. These are normally only Steam based and not related to a game.

I appreciate your reply, but it turns out this is incorrect. I bought the digital version of GTAV last night so I could give my disc copy to a buddy of mine. The disc installation won't run without the disc in the system, and the PS Store makes you delete the disc install so you can download the digital copy.

How is Link's Awakening?

Just got Marin for Hyrule Warriors and I never played the Zelda she is from. Should maybe play it.
One of the quirkiest Zeldas in a good way. The story is by Yoshiaki Koizumi of Mario Galaxy fame. Keeps popping up as some people's favourite Zelda.

Is it best to play PC games at your monitor or TV's natural resolution? So that if your graphics card can only handle 1080p and not 4K, would it be better to play games on a 1080p TV and not a 4K TV?

Yes. Interpolation blurs the image. Only in extreme cases you'd want that to happen.

Had to repost...

How many Neptunia games are there?
Is there a particular chronological order to follow?
It's all with the same characters?
Is there a difference between the numerical entries and the ReBirths and Mk.2's?
Do all the games follow the same timeline?
Are there spinoffs?

All i know about these games is that they are RPGs, it has little girls and a new one comes out like every 5 months.

I'm no expert but:

- There are a lot of games. I think 4 mainline entries, 4 remakes, and some spin-offs (not sure how many)
- Start with Re;Birth1, it's the first part. The games after that follow a new story though so you could skip it and go straight to Re;Birth 2
- Pretty much, you have the regular gang plus some extra peeps that pop up every now and then.
- The Re;Birth games are remakes of the originals, I believe those are called Mk. (not sure here)
- Re;Birth 1 has a standalone story, 2 and 3 are connected, I believe the new one is also a follow up. The spin-offs are in the same universe, but are not connected to the mainline storywise

Hope this helps!

My Xbox One apparently isn't recording to the DVR, even though it's otherwise acting like it did.

I was playing Peggle 2, did a cool shot, and wanted to save it. So I double tapped the guide, pressed X, and it notified me that the clip had been saved. After I finished playing, the notifications section had the information on the achievements I unlocked, as well as the clip - exactly as is normal.

But when I went into the actual DVR menu, there was nothing. So I started it up again and just saved a little bit of the intro and main game menu. Same thing. Pop up notification of the clip being saved, and notification tab showing it, too. But absolutely nothing in the DVR itself.

I have over 500 GB free, so it can't be space. Anyone have any ideas?

So I was informed by coworkers that there are websites where you can play retro games (generally using Flash) for free online. I figure this has to be illegal, but I'm wondering how there are so many of these sites? Are they exploiting some legal loophole? I would be interested if someone could explain the legality of these things to me.

Someone has to file a complaint before something happens.

So it is illegal though, right? Are you aware of any loopholes they might (claim to) be exploiting?
Yes.
Edit: the only loophole I can think of would be if the individual playing the game owns a copy, but it wouldn't fly in certain parts of the world because it is not the individual's copy being played

One thing I've always wondered is how some games are very rare due to really low print runs. With some NeoGeo games I've read about, for example, there are less than 10 known copies to exist. My question is: Why would a publisher release a game with such a low print run? How on earth is that profitible?

Dev costs were lower as well as were sale projections perhaps.

Some games were licensed/rented out (to arcades or rental stores) recouping costs over time. Some had low print runs but ensured all copies were sold to recoup development costs.
In the case of nintendo, they limited the number of copies to be made and only when those copies were sold could publishers have more copies be made.

Edit: some arcade games were never sold but only licensed out to shops I think which added to the rarity

Hey guys, I'm dying on the inside for forgetting the name of a game I used to be very interested in. I thought I had it bookmarked the website, but I guess I lost it when I reformatted... Perhaps y'all can help me out?

I remember the trailer opens on a monitor with vegetation growing around it and it starts booting up... Robot leaning against a car begins to move. Looks like an abandoned city. Something about a robot that can move through time? Helping yourself from the past to solve puzzles... Showing the passage of time and trees/vegetation growing. Day/night cycles and weather...

I think I remember people not believing it was rendered in real time back in the day. Also developed by like, 2 people?

Sorry... Kind of vague. If someone can scratch this itch on my brain, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Do you know (roughly) how old it is? What platform it was for?

I've just upgraded to windows 10 (not fresh install) and my cpu is constantly 100%.

In task manager it says it is the svchost that is 100%, is something updating or is this a bug? I remember this happening once in windows 7.

I've been looking into getting a stylus for my Vita (can't stand smudging the screen, plus I feel that Severed would be a lot more enjoyable with stylus controls) but all I see are ones for iOS devices. Are there any made specifically for the Vita or will any capacitive stylus do?

There's a fan made Metroid 2 remake game called AM2R coming soon, that seems poised to actually make it to the finish line without getting killed.

Question: I could swear there's another similar retro fan project coming soon or possibly already out. Maybe a couple. I can't think of what, and it's too vague to Google.

There's probably a ton. The metroid modding / hacking scene is pretty large. Things like Metroid Super Zero Mission are among the most well known. So you might just need to go look for sites dedicated to the scene and browse.

Maybe you guys can help. I bought that sonic humbl bundle a while back, one of the games in it was Sonic and Sega all stars racing. It starts up fine(Although with some screen tearing. I just have a laptop). But when i choose a track and it loads, it freezes on the loading menu while the game continues(Annoying announcer and everything ).Then it goes black and says "Application blocked from accessing graphics hardware ". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver, reinstalling the game, fiddling with the intel control panel but nothing worked. Could windows 10 be the problem? I could use some help.

What does MLG mean? I've seen it mentioned in some silly flash game I assume it has something to do with gangsta culture.

Major League Gaming. It's usually used in gaming humor to poke fun at videos that have skilful (or wannabe skillful) but over the top players so they'll say something like "OMG MLG NO SCOPE HEADSHOT" or something along those lines. It usually is combined with a lot of annoying gaming stereotypes like weed, screaming like a banshee, yo momma, etc.

What's with the Xbox One having both Dolby Digital and DTS sound options? How does that work on a technical level? Do all games have both DD and DTS audio? I'm not a complete audio noob, but I obviously don't know my shit, either.

I asked this question before but I really never got a straight answer that I liked

Can I install games and refuse patches for Xbox one installs without disconnecting it?

Did NXOE improve install time since launch?

Being a game console, it likely has built-in software and/or hardware for encoding those formats on the fly. I'd guess that most games don't have any audio actually pre-encoded in those formats outside of maybe some cutscene stuff, and just rely mostly on the built in encoders.

As a side note, both Dolby and DTS are somewhat redundant now that we have enough bandwidth for uncompressed LPCM. While they still make some sense for stuff like movies which are fully pre-recorded, in games, the only real upside to using them is legacy compatibility.

Yeah, I guess so. But for clarification, this isn't a Metroid mod project I'm looking for, it was another franchise. There was AM2R and then another non-Metroid, high profile fan mod project coming soon.

Why isn't Resident Evil 4 on 3ds? I mean its on everything else isnt it? Gamecube, Ps2, Wii, PC (Twice Released) Mobile, Xbox One, Ps4. I'd love to play it on my 3ds. I understand this is a stupid question, and there really is no answer. I just really want it.

So, my PS3 HDMI port just died for no reason, can't get it to work. I have the component cables and I have set it up to 1080p and it looks pretty much the same as it did with the HDMI. Will I lose anything using component instead of HDMI? Is it worth the hassle to send it somewhere to get it fixed or I'll be okay?
