This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

How does one find their steam ID? On my user page, my url has "profile" in place of "id" as well as a series of numbers instead of my account name.

Did I do something wrong upon signing up? Is there one extra step I need to do?

do gamecube games on the wii with component cables look noticeably better than gamecube games on the gamecube through composite?

Seeing as the majority of Gamecube games support progressive scan they should look noticeably better. Even the ones that don't should look better than composite. Stuff like Mario Sunshine, Baten Kaitos, or Wind Waker look fantastic using Progressive Scan on the Wii. Its totally worth it.

How do I not suck at Mega Man X games? I've beaten X & X4 but not without a load of frustration beforehand x_x; I've watched countless normal/pro/speed playthroughs of these games but I just can't get the hang of 'em!

Probably depends if the game has Progressive Scan built in

REmake. It doesn't look like it supports it.

meh, i'll take the slight hit. Those character models and prerendered backgrounds still look practically next gen to me (aside from the resolution, of course.)

I'm thinking about getting one of the Left for Dead games for my PC. I know it's really a co-op game but can I still play it on my own?

Also, is my PC gonna be able to handle it ok (Intel Core Due 6600@2.4ghz/ geforce 7900gt)?

You most certainly can play by yourself, but it's far more enjoyable with others, even if they're terrible or sabotaging you. I only ever did single player if I was trying to get more familiar with a map or get achievements without bothering teammates.

Your specs are higher than mine, so you should be good to go. I don't know if you can max settings, but you should be able to run them.

That's great news. Thanks!

A paid version of Fraps can record video in high resolutions, up to 2560x1600, with frame rates up to 120 FPS.

FRAPS eats a lot into the processing power, though, so games either stutter like mad or I have to tone down my settings. At least in my experience.

I posted this on the Linksys help forums, but not one has gotten back to me yet. Maybe GAF can help?

Hi all,

I have a WRT54GS model 2.0 with speedbooster. It has firmware version v4.71.4. It's worked absolutely fine for 4 years, but recently it has been having an extremely slow connection, if it connects at all. I continually get network time out errors, but it never seems to go away.

I have reset the modem and router many times, it works fine for a few minutes, and then slows down to its problematic pace. When connecting directly to the modem I get speeds up to 18 mbps, but when using the router I seem to top out around 6-7 mbps.

The main problem I'm having is trying to connect to Xbox live, with the problem seeming to be an insufficient MTU setting, even though I have it manually set to 1452 with the 53-3074 ports open. I have set a static IP for the xbox, with the router's DNS settings and subnet masks. I have tried everything this forum has suggested, but I can't seem to get my old speeds back.

The Xbox is identifying my MTU as the main problem. I have tried it Auto and Manual at 1452, and it still won't provide a stable connection. QoS doesn't seem to be helping, and disabling UPnP didn't do anything either. I am very frustrated with the WRT54GS right now.

Is there anything anyone can do to steer me right?

Thanks

I know the general wisdom is that the original Counter Strike and DoD are better than their Source counterparts, but which version of Half-Life is typically favored?

Is it possible to turn off the shutter sound on the 3DS camera? It seems to play through speakers even if headphones are installed and/or the volume is right down. I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, and I think the noisy whirring would probably be a little disrespectful :-)

When you say "using the router", do you mean wireless? I had similar problems with my WRT54GL, and someone suggested I change the WiFi channel. Works perfectly since then.

Has this been confirmed? I wouldn't even be surprised.

I recall an article about someone meeting Shigesato Itoi while seeing a play. I can't seem to find it, so I was wondering if anyone else knows where to find it. Dunno if the article included discussion of the Mother series.

(only tenuously related, but I digress)

They would make the achievements extremly easy just to get people to buy the game.

Tried the single player game - 200 Gamerscore

I just don't get the concern about point abuse. I love achievements, but they've honestly been devalued due to the rampant hacking and game saving that's gone on for years. Regardless, the little notification sound still has its hold over me and a few of my friends.

People that want to inflate their scores will do so regardless, and MS exploited achievement love to draw attention to XBLA gaming on WM7 phones. Give the indie games platform some of that same attention.

Didn't want to create a thread for this question...

I'm looking for a website that lists collectors editions and their values. I've tried doing a search but the results I've come across are quite lacking. Even a website that lists prices for both standard and collectors with their values across the US/JP/EUR formats would be appreciated.

Cheers. =)

You can change the id name in your profile settings in the community tab.

I know someone did a "sound restoration" of FF VI gba, which supposedly fixes the audio to sound like the snes version. I haven't tried it myself though, so I can't say how well it works. They also did one for FF V advance.

Oh. My. Fucking. GOOOOOOOD.

WHAT.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Man, I have to check this out tonight when I go home. Shit. Dude even hacked the orchestral/vocals from the Distant Worlds performance into this? WHAAAAAAT.

Man, did he replace all the sound effects too?

Oh god. Awesome.

I hope this'll work on a psp too, but I'm not hopeful, lol.

Amazing!! Thanks for bringing this to my attention man!

Is it worth trading in my 1st gen 360 (without HDMI) to get a new one with HDMI?

I started to get one when the falcons were available but the general consensus was that HDMI wasn't that much of difference in terms of image quality.

I have looked at that page a hundred times, but I guess I always just skimmed over it without realizing! Thanks!
Also, even if it doesn't matter anymore; those numbers you mentioned earlier? That was your Steam ID.

Yeah, I knew there would probably be an issue trying to clarify what I meant since it was still my ID number. I just didn't know how to create a personal ID url.

Thundr, I would say if you have the means go ahead and trade it in. If you've got a good tv to display your games on and it's not going to cost you too greatly, why not go for it?
I doubt you'll be getting much in the way of credit for your system, but it might be worth checking to see.

Yakuza 3 or Yakuza 4? 3 seems to have gotten better ratings but I think it's because 4 didn't really do anything new.
I think the consensus is that 4 is the better game. Still haven't touched it, though, as I'm having a blast with 3 right now.

Do you guys know if Gamestop is having a trade two games in and buy L.A. Noire for twenty dollars? I know I saw an ad for it way back when crysis 2 came, but I cant find the deal anymore.

I was in a gamestop today and after my purchase and noticed a large poster that was a Time Magazine cover.

Looked like a real cover but since it was a big poster I assume it was some sort of viral ad. The clerk was busy with someone so I didn't bother to ask

Anyone know what game was / is using a time magazine cover poster? Looked Crysis 2-ish. It was a city block somewhat war torn

hi,

have rented test drive unlimited 2 for the ps3 for my friend to play, i really don't think its great, but he just wants to play it so he can drive round a large island in varying cars and explore, basically the test drive experience, however he doesn't want to bother with the story aspects early on in the game, he just wants to dive in and casually drive round,

does anybody know if the saves are transferrable? so he could just procure a late game save

also if saves are transferrable does anybody know where to get, or have one they could offer him. if you have one pm me thanks, if u know where to get one reply would be great

thanks
:D

Now that I've beat Puzzle Quest 2 (f u green dragon!), I have an opportunity to start up a new PC game. Help me choo choo chooooose:

The Witcher

Dragon Age Origins
Dungeons
Bully: Scholarship Edition

or I could finish playing Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga.

This is a REALLY random question.

Does anyone know why PS3 UK box art (probably all of Europe) typically shows the name of the game in plain text on the spine of the case?

NA/JP is much more likely to have the logo of the game there.

It's a really trivial issue but it prevents my gaming shelf from looking as pretty as it can be :(

I don't own a PS3, just a PSP. When the PSN went back up folks were saying that a new firmware was downloaded to their PS3 that prompted them to change their password.

What's the procedure for us PSP-only folks? Is there new PSP firmware that does the same?

Best website to get games for mainland Europe, without too much shipping costs?
My country happens to find renting games illegal aswell. And don't feel like paying 65€ per game.

The connection for my wired headset has decided to break. Time for a new one.

Would people rather pay £20 for the wireless one, or pay an extra £5 for some wired TurtleBeach ones?

What's a good HD TV for playing Wii on? I'm thinking of getting one because of Cafe coming out somewhat soon plus I need an upgrade anyway. I guess some HD TVs can make the Wii look pretty bad while some make it look great so I'm not sure. I don't need anything big, something around 20 inches is fine. Also, are component cables worth getting? Thanks.

I'm looking at SNES games on ebay. Do German and French PAL carts have English text also? Specifically:

Zelda: LttP
Donkey Kong Country 2
Mario All Stars
Yoshi's Island

Thanks!

My PS2 won't respond to the start button. I tried it on 3 controllers (one is even brand new) and it still won't respond.

Anyone had this problem?

The left analog stick on my PS3 controller is starting to stick up. It's not a big deal most of the time (unless I'm in a menu)... But is there anything I can do about it?
