This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I got a PS3 a couple of weeks ago, and now want to know the deal with the PSN store. Specifically, the process in which one adds funds to their PSN account, something I assume is possible.

I know you can buy PSN cards at retail for associated values, and I also know you can directly purchase content with a credit card. My question is; can one add 'funds' to their PSN account without buying a retail card, instead with a credit/debit card, and if so are they restricted to specific value blocks (eg: $25, $50, etc), or can they add any amount they chose?

Pretty sure if you attempt to buy an item with zero cash in your 'psn wallet' and you have a credit card linked to your account it will only subtract the amount of the item. Might be something about purchases having to be minimum $10. Can't remember exactly.

Are third party Wii component cables any good? I got a Wii for Christmas and my tv only has component and HDMI inputs, so I need a component cable for it. I'd like to save a few dollars and get a third party one if they don't suck.

Is PS+ worth it? I was thinking of getting the 3 month pass and d/l the free/cheap content. Do you get to keep the free stuff after PS+ expires?

In fallout new vegas, on the weapon screen in your pip boy, above the weapon's damage, you see a box with what type of a weapon with a number to the right of it. What does that number mean? I've only seen the numbers in either "0,25,50"

I had these when I had my Wii and had no problems with them.

I think it is how many skill points for that weapon type you need in order to equip it.

Is that to equip the weapon and not have it shake around when you're aiming?

The "free" content is only free as long as you have an active PS+ membership. Any content you buy with a PS+ discount is yours to keep.

I've been thinking of buying a new wii and gifting the old one to a friend. If I did that would it be possible for me to move all my downloads to an SD card to play on the new wii?

Nintendo's current DRM policy is that the downloaded games can only be used on the unit that you purchased them from. So nope.

Am I playing star Ocean 2 wrong? I am at the last bit where I have to fight the 7 bosses (well did beat somethem) The tower and the enemies seems hard. I am at level 65 - 70.

Help?

I'm an assassin's creed newb, but I just got AC2 and why do I have to avoid the damn guards even when I didn't do anything wrong? It says I'm "anonymous" but when I walk by some guards, they start chasing me >:O

Is it possible to back up your DLC on the 360? If Xbox Live is one day shut down for the 360 (like it has been for the original Xbox) and my 360 dies, is it possible to then transfer that content to another 360 and have it still work?

Because you are a wanted man.

Just avoid the guards !

On the xbox wireless steering wheel, what's the equivalent for the left and right stick clicks? For the life of me I can't find the answer and I accidentally did it once in burnout paradise with my delorean.

MetalGearGAF, I'm after the TGS tech demo of MGS:Rising in good quality, anyone know where I can source such a thing without paying for Gamespot Gold?

I just finished downloading Silent Hunter III on Steam, but I've found that every time I start it, it creates this high-pitched whine inside my PC case if it is on any menu screen. I believe Crysis and some other games did this in the past, but not nearly as loudly. It's not my speakers, as I turned them off to make sure. I never paid much attention to it on other games, but this is so loud that I'm afraid something in my case must be oscillating tremendously and will break down if I ever stay on a menu in that game for too long. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

So, can someone explain why I can make a song about a car and get paid, write a book about a car and get paid, take photos, do all that without needing any license from the manufacturer, but if I want the car in a video game I need a license?

Can you plug in an external hard drive via USB for backwards compatibility on the 360? I was really sad when I popped in my Halo disc and was informed that I couldn't play it. :(

So, I had an itch to play some Metal Gear Online and I tried to acces it through the MGS4 disk but every time I selected Metal Gear Online it kicked me out to the XMB.

I vaguely remember that initially MGO was supposed to be a stand-alone piece of software and was not supposed to be included with MGS4.......
Did Konami remove the access of MGO through MGS4 or did Konami turn off the MGO servers?
Thanks.

If installing games on an Xbox still requires the disc to play, what's the point of taking up all that space just for decreased loading times?

The sound of silence! Saves wear and tear on your DVD drive as well.

What's the best way to hook up a N64 to a HDTV? And where can I get myself a new official controller?
Technically, the N64 S-Video cable but regular A/V cables should work fine. The RFU adapter (the one that you pass the coax through) doesn't usually work on LCD TVs. I've heard of people plugging their N64s, and other old systems into upscaling DVD players or receivers and passing the signal through there to upscale and deinterlace but that should only be necessary if your TV has an absolutely horrid upscaler.

Either way, N64 games look blurry as shit on new tvs :lol

You can get controllers online easily. My friend bought one new on Amazon for $17 I think. Ebay to probably and maybe cheaper.

Needs to be the official HDD for BC, so nope.

Are the red rings in Sonic Colors used for anything more than Super Sonic and that Mii unlock?

Decreased load times is worth it itself. Not gonna' fill up 250GBs soon.

Office colleague bought a new ps3... anyone have a link to a thread with that long goldrusher post of reccommended ps3 games...

Anyone know about the hardware high-pitched whine thing? I could swear it's happened on my previous systems on some games as well.

my puppy ate the caps off the analog sticks of both my ps3 dualshocks, can i replace them? i swear i'm going to wear him for a hat one day.

So I've heard this thing can play both Famicon games and NES games; can anyone confirm this?

Edit: saw a store selling this for around $90 USD in Taiwan, is it worth getting?

Wikipedia to the rescue:
The 10NES authentication chip was completely removed from the system in an effort to eliminate the blinking red power light problem associated with it in the NES-001 model control deck. The removal of the 10NES chip also allows the system to play games that are unlicensed and/or from different regions such as Europe and Japan, something the NES-001 model control deck cannot do.

Do old SNES and Genesis and similar carts contain volatile RAM that their save data was stored in, requiring constant battery power, similar to Gameboy cartridges?

I believe so, have never opened many carts but the ones I have done always had a battery in if the game had saves.

So if I'm playing something on my 360 with a regular controller, and I get a request to play someone at Street Fighter, how do I get my 360 to stop recognizing the game pad as controller 1 and recognize my fight stick instead? I tried powering down my controller and then turning on the stick, but it still came on as controller 2...

I would like to know this as well. Is there a way to assign controllers to different numbers?

Don't know if it works, but found this:
The Xbox 360's wireless controllers offer greater flexibility when you're playing games because you're not limited by a cord. Unfortunately, when you want to change the controller's port--indicating which controller is assigned to which player number--you must reprogram the controllers in the proper order. Compared to simply "swapping plugs," this can be tedious, but it's not too much trouble. Each wireless controller is set with a quadrant on the Xbox ring of light; the order in which they are programmed dictates the player number.

1-Turn on your Xbox 360. Press and hold the "Guide" button in the center of your wireless controller until prompted to turn it off. Select "OK."

2-Press and hold the "Guide" button on each additional wireless controller you have programmed to your Xbox 360 one at a time. Turn off each controller.

3-Press and hold the "Guide" button on the wireless controller you want to set as "Player One." Wait until the controller's green light turns on, then press the "Connect" button on your Xbox 360, followed by the "Connect" button on your wireless controller.

4-Repeat the process to program up to four wireless controllers. Program them using the same method, in the order you want them to be to be numbered (controller two=player two; controller three=player three; controller four=player four).
