This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Bizarre that the picture has an Xbox logo on it, the skating mode was exclusive to the PS2 version I believe.
Yeah, your right.

When playing gamecube games on the wii, do you have to have a gamecube controller or will the wii classic controller work as well?
Gamecube Controller, and you will need Gamecube Memory Cards.

I'm looking for an actual psychological reason here: Searched the web and couldn't find anything

Why do people name their characters with profanities? Talking about console games where you can rename them and online games.
If you are a developer of a social platform, besides out-right hard-coded filters, is there any type of social psychological factors you can put to use to discourage the act?

Hey I am new to Nintendo Wii Gaming...I want to buy a Wii mostly because of all the cool Gamecube games I missed out on like 8 years ago!

I want to play the Zeldas the Metroid Prime series, Mario Galaxy, F-Zero GX and the Resident Evil Rebirth , Zero etc.

So I am in the market for a used Wii. Can GAF tell me if this is a good deal for a Wii?

Nintendo WII
Comes with the following:
Nintendo Wii Console
Nunchuk controller and Wii Remote
2 Gamecube controllers (Indigo and Silver)
Guitar hero controller

Games:
Guitar Hero 3 (Wii)*
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)*
Mario Party 8 (Wii)*
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Ty, The Tasmanian Tiger (Gamecube)*
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex (Gamecube)*
Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (Gamecube)
Soul Calibur II (Gamecube)*

All of the above for $150 CND. is that a fair price?

I intend to sell the ones I bolded, how much should I get for those games and do they have any resale value? can I at least get like $40 if I could sell all of them?

Thanks in Advance

You're planning on selling Brawl and Soul Calibur 2? You're a bad person. >:(

Other than that gripe, that's a damn fine deal.

Ok I might not sell all of those, I haven't really played brawl before, I love fighting games, I've put in more than 300 hours online on SFIV and SSFIV.

As a "SF guy", I am not sure I will really like or even adjust to the fighting mechanics of Brawl.. .So I am not even going to attempt it. I donno. and As far as Soul Calibur II goes, I have owned it on the PS2 since day one, and played the shit out of it, so it's nothing new to me, and the other games are basically are not of my interest.

And thanks for your response btw.

Holy crap that mgs skateboarding is amazing. It's kinda pathetic that a minigame add on to a stealth game has been better than every mainstream skateboarding release since then
Skate sucks, yeah, i went there

But for my question: Has anyone seen or heard of a crimson gem saga ost? I'd really like to have the soundtrack for this game but i cant find CD's or youtube videos or anything. Any dudes who have a confirmed good way to get it feel free to pm me :)

Is there a site out there that explains all the basic terms of an MMO? I don't get most of the lingo and the significance of it like DPS and LFG and DSM.

I'd at least play Brawl a bit before you do trade it. Maybe the story, some modes. The game is a few years old and the value isn't gonna drop.

Didn't that minigame use a skating engine from some Konami-owned skating series? I'm not sure which series that would be...

I agree, though. It was a lot of fun.

I'd like to try Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on my PS3, but I live in Denmark. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is only available on the US PSN Store. I hear that's a problem that can be solved. How do you do that?

You can just create a US account and access the US PlayStation Store. What you need to buy stuff is a US PSN Card. If you have either PayPal or a Credit Card, buying US PSN Cards is not a problem at all.

I bought a couple of them at www.hdmoviesource.com and have never had any problems with them. The code will be send via e-mail.

Yep, price is quiet fair. I don't feel like pulling up numbers, but a rough glance and the games are worth $100+. If you sell the bolded ones on something like Amazon, you should get $40+ for just Brawl and Mario Party 8 alone.

If you also want cash, sell TP GC and get the Wii Version, unless you are dead set on using Gamecube Controls. Gamecube version had a far smaller print and thus goes for more, roughly $25-$35 depending on the markets tilt.

Oh, and if it doesn't come with any Gamecube Memory card (It likely does though) you will need one to save Gamecube games.

No you don't need the card to create the account. You can fake the address, just google one. You will need the psn card to buy stuff.

One thing I noticed about Fire Emblem POR and RD... Why did they dumb down Mordecai in the latter? He talks more like a caveman and refers to himself in the third person.

Thanks for the awesome and informative response...So yeah two things here...No I really don't care about Twilight Princess being on Gamecube, unless those are in fact superior controls???

Is there a graphical improvement on the Wii version?

Also it sucks that I need a Gamecube memory card! how much is that going to cost me? can't I somehow save my games on a SD card or something on the Wii? shouldn't there be an easy hack for that or... something?

When playing Crysis 2 multiplayer what are the glowing things i'm picking up off of people I kill and what are they good for. I'm thinking dogtags but there doesn't seem to be any kind of record of them like Battlefield:BC2

No, you can play all games from all accounts. Doesn't matter with which account you are signed on.

I was thinking of getting into playing Killzone. Would I have to play 1 to understand whats going on in 2? Or could I just jump into 2?

I've only played the first 15 minutes of Killzone and I had no trouble understanding the plot in K2.

Gamecube Memory Cards aren't all that expensive, although finding one is a different story.

As for Twilight Princess, it's purely up to personal preference. I didn't like the motion controls for the Wii version, so I stuck with the GC version. I didn't have the "superior" arrow aiming, but since I was so used to it from Wind Waker and Majora, it didn't matter much. The map is also flipped in the Wii version, if that matters (and to some people it does).

I believe the games are also the same graphically, but I think the Wii version has widescreen. Although someone more knowledgeable than I could clarify.

Yes, it is a good Deal. A Wii Alone normally goes for $125.

Thanks again guys, well the guy is not answering my emails...looks like he is having cold feet or changed his mind or something :(

I'm willing to drive more than an hour to pick this up!

As (mostly) a Sony fanboy with still functional PSone, PS2 and a PS3 under my TV, I think I just discovered that the best (most fun) games in the last decade were released on the Gamecube, I want to experience them all for the first time!

hell maybe even give a shot at Dolphin Emu. once I can afford my $2,500 supercomputer to run them on at 15fps with bad sound :P

What is the best HDTV calibration disc for a newbie like me?

I just can't seem to find the picture settings that I want. I am gaming on a 1080p 40" LCD Sammy.

For knowledgable PC owners, I understand that if you buy the PC version of FFVII, you can mod it (new term to me)? By this, I mean that you can make the character models different? Does anyone know more information regarding this? As in, do all character models in the game change including non-playable characters, or is it just a select few? I've seen a few videos on youtube but it's not clear if everything is affected.

You can do this, but honestly, the real challenge with FFVII on PC is getting it to run in the first place. And not crash at the Chocobo minigame. And run the submarine minigame at a sane speed. (It's not speedlimited, and synced to run on a 200MHz Pentuim II. On a modern PC... it's unplayable.) The motorcycle game doesn't matter inspeed. You'll just be at a disadvantage at a boss because of it. Then you just have to worry about random crashes and getting the music right.

Worry about getting it to work first, then mod it. Honestly, if I were to recommend someone playing FFVII on PC, I'd suggest buying the Playstation version and emulating it. That's much more stable.

However, it is possible to get it to run, I can make it play on my Vista installation, but it's really difficult. Hell, to get the music right, you pretty much have to copy the music files in from a Playstation version. Luckily I have both so that wasn't a problem for me.

PS2 cable was chewed by the dog had to get a new one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005MDZD) but the one I got only gives me the picture in black and white when hooked up to my HDTV. Yes i changed the menu settings from RGB to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr but it still only gives me black and white. Is there a setting im missing, or do I have the wrong cable? Couldn't find any info when i did a search on here so figured this was the next best place to ask.

You could always just read a plot synopsis for the first game on Wikipedia, or something.

hi gaf,

currently jonesing for some street fighter 4, just wondering on you opinion of the purchase.

i could leave my house this second and go buy super street fighter 4 for 12 pounds,

however i was just wondering if it was worth waiting for the arcade edition, is there gonna be much difference other than balance and the two other characters we all know about :D

thanks

Okay, that seems far too much of a hassle and I'm not exactly a genius when it comes to things like this.

If I buy the PS1 version and emulate it (I'll find out what this is on google), will I be able to use mods on that?

No, you can't mod the PS1 version. A console emulator is a program that allows a computer or modern console to emulate another video game console.

Edit: I'd also like to echo McNum's comment about the difficulty of getting the PC version running properly on modern systems. Also, the mods I've tried aren't worth the time or effort.

Its probably a long shot but worth the 10 mins to call. 1-800-255-3700 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              1-800-255-3700      end_of_the_skype_highlighting

Actually after a quick search of nintendo's site here is a list of local distributors http://www.nintendo.com/corp/distributors_domestic.jsp

I completely forgot I asked this, but thank you very much.

I guess I'll skip replaying it then. I was only interested because of making the character models more realistic.

Thanks for responding.

Why does EA never add achievements to thier games unless they have to?

It's something Ive always wondered, obviously they do it on the 360 and PS3 since they are mandatory...but for their PC and Mobile games they never implement them and in alot of cases have their own in-game achievement system with the sames ones that would have been in the 360 or PS3 version.

I just want to see Steamworks integrated into game like Crysis 2, Battlefeild, etc...

I had my copy of Bad Company 2 for 360 stole from my house. If I bought a used copy with no VIP pass would I still be able to play online from the VIP pass from my previous game?
