This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I've recently been noticing that games aren't using that much RAM. Or at least I don't think they are.

I open task manager and have it running on my secondary monitor and games never go over 1,000,000k of memory. Games I tested today are Saints Row 2, Skyrim (with 4gb launcher), and Batman AA. I know other programs can, when I open firefox and open A LOT of tabs (like 50 or something) it will get over 1,000,000k memory useage.

I feel like these games should be using more memory. I know most are 32 bit so limited to 2GB, but they're not even using 1GB. Is it because they are also using 1GB VRAM (I have a 1GB 5870)?

Is there a setting in Windows somewhere that I have screwed up that is limiting the games?

I missed all the black friday deals on PS3 since I was out of the country. I've been looking around, but haven't seen anything good. Are there any good deals to be had still?

Do Japanese gamers have a website similar to GameFAQs where one could check for tips, tricks and guides (for console games)?

Name this arcade game: Action side-scroller that had you as a medieval knight battling things like skeletons and bats outside of a castle. When you'd get hit, you'd lose your armor down to where your character was fighting in his boxers.

Swerve: it's not Ghouls n' Ghosts, Ghost n' Goblins, or anything from Capcom. The main hero was disgustingly big and blocky and the game was nothing but a quarter-sucker. I only played this game a handful of times as a kid before the shop-owner replaced it with Final Fight.

What the hell was that game!? It's been bugging me for years!

Is there an easy way to do memory management on my PS3? I have an 80 GB model that doesn't have much beyond 2 full games, a handful of PSN games and saves on it, but cannot hold anything else.

Also, what kind of drive to I need if I'm going to upgrade it? Is the process difficult?

Black Tiger? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39n1DWi_YWw (Also by Capcom but looks pretty bad and stiff.)

If that's it, TVTropes' article on Clothing Damage helped a lot.

If it's not, try posting in this thread:

Let's say that, because I have been so far for PC Gaming I don't understand requirements like I used to.

Is there a "Can You Run It" website version for MacBook?

I would like to know what my Laptop can and can't run. I know it's a very limited machine but I wanted to know what modern games I could play...

So uh...why would you not want the latest firmware on your PS3 exactly? Is there some sort of system glitch or bug that's in the later firmwares?

Also, what do older systems look like on an HDTV? Is it worth it or should I just keep an SDTV?
Not sure, but I'm guessing they'll look better on SDTVs. I once tried emulators on the original xbox and they looked pretty darn good on our 1080i native tv (well, that is if crystal sharp pixels is your thing), but that was because I could force 1080i. Our tv didn't like anything less than 1080i though, had motion blur and other crap visible

Maybe he's on cfw

I just bought a used white Go off of craigslist. What's the best way to clean it off without damaging any of the finish?

(the nub is particularly dirty)

Edit: I think I cleaned off the nub fairly well by scratching at the groves, but I noticed the grips on the back are discolored. Is there anything I can do about this? :\

HORI 3DS screen protectors: How much *should* they cost?

Looking on Amazon.co.uk, there's some for £9, which *seem* expensive given I can find some elsewhere for £2-£3... but on the other hand, is there a trade in fake ones? Are the Amazon ones genuine?

Amazon.de has them for 9€, Play-Asia is cheapest at 9$ (without shipping). Seems over-priced either way.

If Amazon sells them and not a third-party seller, chances are they are legit. I don't know how lucrative it would be to fake screen protectors, either. I'm guessing not very.

Why is Kingdom Hearts on PSP so brutally hard? Playing on "Normal" and trying to beat Braig or whatever is shitting name is a right fucker! :D

"Harder than Dark Souls".

This is more of an "ignorant" question than a "stupid" one, but I think it goes here best.

Can two of the same third-party wireless Wii nunchuck controllers be used simultaneously on the same Wii?

Whats the best World War 2 game on 360.

I recently played the COD2 demo again (havnt played the game since launch) and it dosnt hold up very well.

Wolfenstein is a great game, it's set in WW2 but it's also sci-fi/fantasy and not exactly authentic. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is a decent semi-tactical shooter too.

The Saboteur is quite fun, and should be really cheap now.

R.U.S.E and the Battlestations games are fun strategy titles.

Also try Blazing Angels and Il2 Sturmovik games for WW2 flight simulation.

Could someone link me a good, non-hyperbolic explanation of the potential risks to young children with the 3DS? I'll be seeing my nieces over Christmas, and I want my sisters to be aware in advance of whether or not they want me to show them the system or not.

Well this is what NOE's site says:

The use of the 3D feature by children aged six and under may cause vision damage. Therefore it is recommended that:

Only children over six should use the system in 3D mode.
If children aged six and under have access to the system, parents or legal guardians should restrict the display of 3D images using the Parental Controls feature.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

PLEASE READ!

During the initial setup of your Nintendo 3DS system, you will be asked to set Parental Controls. Touch SET to begin, then follow the on-screen instructions.

Choose a PIN code to ensure that your child cannot change the settings you made.

Touch DISPLAY OF 3D IMAGES to disable the 3D feature. The use of the 3D feature by children aged six and under may cause vision damage. It is highly recommended that only children over six should use the system in 3D mode.

Make sure you select DONE to save your settings.

To use Parental Controls or to change the settings after the initial setup has been completed, open the System Settings from the HOME Menu and select PARENTAL CONTROLS.

http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/nintendo_3ds_23802.html

However, I am sure that I have read Iwata say that it was more a precautionary measure because children's brains and vision are still developing at that age than a known, definite risk.

Hope that helps.

So I just submitted a repair to Nintendo, and have received the label to put on my package etc.

It was regarding the home button no longer working, but I also remembered about the scratched top screen too. Is there a way I can add this to my submission..?

absolutely couldn't find a thread for this: anyone have any experience with Universal game cases? specifically, i want something like this for my SNES collection (which sadly lacks manuals), prolly print out the covers from here but i believe it's been said that those cases aren't ideal for SNES games, might need some cutting or the like? just wondering if anyone could verify that or recommend an alternative.

*edit:
I didn't even know that was a thing that existed.

Jesus Christ, are all the consoles & portables a cesspool of hackers this generation?

yeah, custom firmware = cesspool of hackers. good to see you don't just troll drug threads.

So what's the most reliable place to get Dreamcast games in decent condition these days? I'm thinking of starting back on my quest to own all 250 US-released retail games (About 25% of the way there!)

Is there a way you can use the DS or PSP with public Wifi which has a front-end page you need to register on before getting full access? I'd quite like to grab the 3DS ambassador games, but I'm going to be away from home when they hit; I'll be in a hotel which I *think* has guest wifi.

My brother's Xbox 360 isn't working anymore (he has a classic, not the slim). It doesn't power up anymore. When you press the power button, it does nothing. Doing it with a controller doesn't work either.
The light on the feeding is orange, so that is normal if the Xbox is turned off.

He's probably going to buy a new Xbox but there is a problem: There is still a disc inside the disc drive and we can't find a way to open it. Does anyone know a way to open the disc drive without turning on an Xbox or even better, a way to solve this problem?

Any advise/help would be greatly appreciated!

In Black and White, which I'm aware is over ten years old, there's a silver scroll mission in the second map that involves putting items in a ring based on a riddle. I already know that the items I'm supposed to put in are creature poop, a wolf and a burning tree, and then surround them with a physical shield, but where the hell can I find a wolf on this map? Am I supposed to wait until I get the wolf flock miracle from one of Lethys' villages to do it?

If your 3DS has the browser update already, it should be fine, depending on how they make you connect. My university has a guest wifi that requires a browser login and when I open the browser it redirects me to that page so I can login with my university credentials. After that I'm able to access the eShop and the connection will stay until I close the lid.

My PS3 dualshocks are both dead - won't take or hold a charge anymore. Is there a cheap easy way to replace the battery?

With the next gen of consoles a year or so away i am not really in the mood to drop $50 x 2 for another couple of controllers.

Dear US people who imported Xenoblade from Europe,

What ended up being the best provider for the import? I am looking to preorder/import Saint Seiya and don't want to end up like RPGCrazied

I never got around to it because I just bought a dualshock3 instead, but when my sixaxis died I opened it up and getting to the battery is easy (the only issue is a little clip that holds it together if I remember right). I was going to buy a battery off amazon because they were pretty cheap, but didn't because reviews were all over the place. I think radioshack sold them too, but they cost more. But then ds3 was out so I decided to get one of them instead.

As for a question of my own, is there a size limit on the sd card that you can put in a 3DS? it doesn't even tell you in the actual Nintendo manual.

Is it possible to play "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" on XBLA? I used to have the GCN collection with these games, but my brother now has that, and I was thinking I would get the XBLA versions.

I would really recommend GAME.co.uk.

I just ordered the game recently, so I'm not sure about how different it would have been if I had preordered, but it took a total of 6 days for Xenoblade to get here from the day I ordered to the day I received it in Virginia.

No idea. Sunday?

It's pretty obvious that both Sony and Microdollarsoft are desperately trying to snuggle up with Valve. Personally it'd be better for gamers everywhere if it was Sony.

Is there a site where a UKer can get hold of a bunch of those slim black Nintendo DS game cases? Or maybe the slim white 3DS cases? eBay seems to be letting me down and I don't want to pay huge shipping costs. :/
